Mediocre at best, not designed for longevity
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did a lot of research before finally pulling thr trigger on this TV a little over a year ago and frankly, my cheap 12 year old Seiki with a 7 year old Roku stick performs better after 12 years than this one does after less than 2. The speaker on my Seiki was dying and it was too old to have bluetooth or an optics cable, which is what most speakers/surround sounds use to connect this day and age, so I decided to upgrade with this Sony Google Tv The pros: It works. Mostly. You can use all the streaming servies you so desire. Voice Search is also very nice. The cons: 1 - It works more like a really mediocre computer than it does a smart TV. When it loses connection to the internet, it just sends you back to the home screen. No buffering, just suddenly your playback freezes for a few seconds and the home screen comes up. 2 - the remote control it comes with doesn't have much by the way of DVD player settings. No menu option, no skip back 10 seconds or fast forward 10 seconds, no chapter selections- just Play, Pause, Fast Forward, and whatever Rewind is these days. And the fast forward/rewind buttons don't work most of the time if you are trying to watch a DVD. 3 - one of my neighbor's remote controls also apparently works on this TV even though they don't even have a Sony TV. I will be watching YouTube or one of my streaming services and suddenly it goes to a different app, or the antenna, or just freezes completely and I have to turn it off for a few minutes for while its Not So Smart mechanical brain reboots. 4 - after less than 2 years, the speaker is dying. Needless to say, I am quite grumpy about that aspect. It took 10 years of regular use and weeks of exploding Mythbusters episodes to slightly maim the speaker on my old TV that I got for $70 in a Black Friday deal... and it took less than 2 years and some quiet holiday piano music for this $300 TV to start whining. Needless to say, I would not advise anyone to waste their money on this one.

I was hoping for more
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this new Sony TV, to replace an older Sony model KDL-32S3000, which had developed a slight "cloud" on part of the screen. I also have another Sony TV that I've been pleased with, therefore I decided to stick with the Sony brand, for this latest purchase. So far, I have VERY mixed feelings about this new model. The picture is indeed crisp and clear, which is good. However, I have two issues. First, and most importantly, I'm having serious "lip-synch" issues, between the audio and video, on a basic CATV hook up. I have no other equipment hooked to the TV other than the cable box. The issue isn't confined to one particular station, and it doesn't occur 100% of the time. It's quite annoying, and even though I've connected to the Sony help website, and also did several "system resets, both to the TV itself, as well as the cable box, I'm plagued with this issue. Secondly, I'm disappointed with the sound quality of this TV. While the spoken dialog could be described as "crisp and clear", I find it to be overly so, to the point of sounding "tinnny". I realize that a smallish set, such as this one, cannot house large speakers, therefore provide bold sound. However, in comparison, the 18", $129 Samsung TV that's in my kitchen, actually has a better sound range. I also don't understand the lack of a decent owners manual, with some basic "how-to" information, more than if issues arise, go to Sony.com, which requires digging out my laptop, and setting it up somewhere near the TV. Overall, I'm conflicted, and sad to say, I'm considering taking advantage of the Best Buy 14 day return policy.

Thank you for the review and we're glad to hear that you like the clear picture quality of the TV. We do apologize for the inconvenience. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. The picture and sound quality will depend in the source that you're playing. The issue might be the cable box itself not the television.

Sony 32" W830K better than my 50" Samsung
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This open box special came along so I took the chance to replace my 32" LG that I love. About the only difference is the skin tone is better on the Sony. Both are sharp pictures with great contrast. Has lots of smart apps that I just started to use. The over the air tuner is getting a great digital picture. It came in the original packing box in like new condition. The remote is a little long. So far my only complaint is the input keeps defaulting from my HDMI cable input. After a month it has been a pleasure watching it.

Posted .Hi user339503, You've made a wonderful choice! We're glad you like the sharp picture, great contrast, tons of smart TV apps, great picture clarity for OTA tuner channels, and overall performance of your Sony W830K. At Sony, we are always looking to improve our product quality and features. We have noted your input about the size of the remote and will be sure to forward this feedback to the appropriate department.
If the input keeps defaulting to HDMI cable input, please follow these steps:
Step 1. go to settings. 2.select System 3.select Power and Energy 4.select Power on Behavior 5.select last input used.
This will default the TV to the last used input when powered on. Hope this helps and thanks for choosing Sony! -Sam

Great TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great TV. It's very light to carry. I had a difficult time figuring out how to get all of my channels but I was able to with the help of You Tube videos. I didn't want a Smart TV because my internet is so slow. This TV works great with my roof top antenna.

Not what's expected of a Sony TV.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an alright TV overall. If you want a TV that works and functions properly and will likely last umpteen years and you can afford it then I guess sure grab this. It's not a question of if this is a good TV so much as it is as to if it's worth $350+ for a 32 inch model due pretty much entirely because of brand reputation. Ever since Sony came out with the PlayStation consoles and most noticably since the PS3 the quality of the rest of their products has taken a hit. This is simply because Sony is now dividing their resources between electronics such as DVD players, TV's, bluetooth speakers, etc and whatever PlayStation console their on. And they have to too in order to stay relevant and highly desirable in the video game world. However most other Sony products (not gaming related) suffer as a result. Google top TV brands. You'll see Sony on that list, but you'll also see where LG & Samsung dethroned them several years ago by offering extremely comparable quality for a much better price. I will say I do like how current Sony TV's at least come with plenty enough inputs, but really to get that your paying more than 50% more than their biggest competitors charge. Really need added inputs? Just get a Samsung or LG and around $30-$40 on average will add a switch box with plenty of extra inputs. Also while I've never been a fan of tiny little Roku or Firestick remotes Sony typically goes the other way and makes them excessively large, unless you're a senior or genuinely half blind you'll probably consider it overkill. While I gave this TV 3 stars and say that I don't recommend it it's because it is a quality TV, so I can't pound it too much, but again at the same time it's nowhere near what's expected of a Sony TV, the high price really seals the deal. At $350+ you'd think they could at least give people 1080p full HD, but no, you still get basic 720p resolution here. Sony's name and a few added inputs are the only reason you'll pay nearly $400 after taxes for this 32 inch TV. Definitely recommend getting a Samsung or LG and pocket well over a hundred bucks.

Great picture, mediocre sound.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The picture quality is quite good, however, the sound quality is only fair, at best, and there are no adjustments for bass, treble, etc. It's rather "tinny" sounding.... I realize that it's a small, flat screen television, so there isn't a lot of real estate allocated to speakers, but my previous, 32" TV, also a Sony, had much better sound.
