Final price to my 5.1 set up with a Sony AN1000 receiver with the two front tower speakers, center speaker, and two bookshelf rear speakers, theses speakers. The atmosphere speakers helps create a fuller surround sound reminiscent of complex sound systems of the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. Sound detail is clear and sound stage is excellent regardless of listening to music or watching your favorite movie.

25+ years ago I bought my first "5.1" surround sound receiver. The technology was awesome but wiring up rear speakers was such an ugly pain. No matter how neatly I tucked wires around the room (open floor plan, basement and ceiling runs were not an option) I despised my setup--eventually bailing on surround enhancements completely. Flash forward 25 yrs to give "Atmos-enabled" speakers a try with my new Atmos capable receiver (Sony STR-DN1080) and I am thrilled have "surround sound" effects back in my life. To be clear, these are wired speakers. They sit nicely atop my ~42" tall JBL front speakers so no more need to run wires to the back of the room for surround effects. Obviously you still could but as mentioned previously, I like all my audio devices "up front." Once I had the speakers properly configured in the receiver (I did have a surprisingly difficult time getting the Sony receiver to identify my setup properly using the calibration tool and ended up configuring everything manually) I essentially ran two different speaker tests based on my tv/movie listening preferences: 2-channel and "all channels" (for me, I prefer 3.0.2: left/right front towers, center, and the left/right Sony Atmos upward pointing speakers). First I noticed increased vocal clarity from 2-channel to all channels. The Sony SSCSE speakers (coupled with the magic of Dolby) clarified vocals in movies significantly. Second, I immediately noticed what I would call 365° effects. Was it as perfect as having rears in the mix for a 5.x.2 setup? No, but it was still good enough (and loud enough) to capture effects I would hear in a theater. If you run a 5.x.2 or 7.x.2 you are definitely going to fill your room with sound--especially from above and the sides. I did plug my rears back in for one final test but again, I don't have a good way to deal with the wires. Including the rears makes a difference but I could be content to live without them and just rely on the SSCSE speakers for effects. Additionally, I ran some music through these speakers. Again, I am primarily a fan of "loud and from the front" for my music experience. I was concerned that leaving the Sony SSCSE speakers on for musical enjoyment would wreck the acoustical balance and/or blow the SSCSE speakers. I was pleasantly surprised that neither happened. Again, these little guys can handle the power and given the amount of bass my JBL speakers put out, the SSCSE added some nice mid-range enhancements. Lastly, I was impressed by the weight of these speakers. Honestly, I expected them to be lighter...which in the world of audio is usually a bad thing. Traditionally more weight means better sound. These have nice sound and power. Would I recommend? Yes, but not necessarily to just a movie audiophile. I think they are great for someone who wants to "get into Dolby effects" without breaking the bank and without having to commit to a 9-speaker setup right off the bat. Whether a 3.x.2, 5.x.2 or 7.x.2 setup, these speakers are a great, cost effective way to add fullness and effects to your movie/tv experience.

While in-ceiling speakers may provide better sound, if they're not an option, or you're looking for some good height speakers, these definitely fit the bill. Great sounding and looking speakers. And, they won't take up a lot of space either. They come with some no-slip feet and backings as well, if you're planning on mounting them on the wall, or on top of other speakers. In my setup, they're used for Atmos overheads, bouncing sound off the ceiling. They work much better than I anticipated, allowing for more immersive movies and games (that support 3d positional sound). If you're looking for speakers to enhance your setup, these should work well.

These speakers are an alternative to installing ceiling mounted speakers to achieve Dolby Atmos Surround Sound. They are to be place on a flat surface and are designed to reflect sound off of the ceiling from below. They actually work. I had just upgraded my AV receiver to a new Dolby Atmos network receiver and could not wait to try these. I already had a 4K Blue-Ray player and could not wait to try Spiderman Homecoming. So I found a nice spot on my TV Console to place them and had them connected fast. My receiver detected the speaker config with a quick auto calibration and I was watching the movie shortly after. WOW! The flying scenes with Spiderman leaping in from above really demonstrated the sound from the ceiling. The speakers actually reflect the sound well and I was very impressed. I actually sat and watched the entire movie despite having watched it several times before, just to pay attention to the newly achieved surround sound. I highly recommend these speakers if you want Dolby Atmos without breaking the bank on a ceiling mounted speaker installation.

Can't be any happier with this purchase. I have bought two of these (4 in total) to complete my 7.1 Dolby Atmos setup. The details I get from these are incredible, I can't believe all the sounds I was missing before I got these. You can definitely tell the difference when playing a game or when watching a movie that was filmed with Dolby Atmos. Most of the time,my wife doesn't know where the sound comes from! There may be better ones or more expensive ones but these do the trick and are more affordable than other options currebtly available at best buy.

These are great elevation speakers! I recently upgraded my home theater system to a 7.1.4 channel Dolby Atmos/DTS setup and purchased these speakers for rear height speakers (wall mounted) because they were on sale and I liked their compact profile. I was so pleased with them that I purchased another pair to replace my front height speakers (also wall mounted). They sound and look great!

As upfiring speakers they add some more immersion to atmos. These would probably be better wall mounted but are a good cheap entry for people looking at atmos

As my Yamaha RXA 760 Receiver supports Atmos, I wanted to see what the hype around Atmos was all about. I did some research and ordered these little Sony Speakers to add to my KEF 5.1 set up. I must say, I cannot be more happy with the performance and clarity they deliver, even in conjunction with the more expensive KEF speakers. These Sony's fit perfectly on top of our KEF R500 fronts and blend in pretty good (visually and sound wise). Our ceiling is far from perfect (high and sloping towards the couch) and the Atmos effect is pretty subtle, but for 150$, it surely is worth it. The Dolby demo tracks sound great and Netflix's Altered Carbon and Amazon's Jack Ryan sound pretty good. Fingers crossed that the amount of available streaming Atmos enabled material will increase now. Be aware that not every streaming service supports Atmos on each platform. To get the Atmos "experience" we watch Atmos enabled Netflix shows using a windows 10 PC and Amazon over the new Fire TV. Our AppleTV4k (with TvOS12 Beta loaded) also delivered good results when we rented Deadpool 2.

The Atmos sound that comes out of these speakers is great and is easy to wire them up. The only downside is that it comes with only 2 speakers, but I have a 7-speaker setup to my receiver.

Complete the Atmos surround sound with this simple inexpensive good quality speakers. Very easy to connect to the receiver with short wires. Makes watching movies more enjoyable.

I actually just finished hooking up my Sony 5.1 Surround Sound system, these two speakers were the final pieces. Even though my receiver doesn't support Atmos and I wasn't able to place them exactly where I want them because they're heavier than I thought they sound GOOD!! Soon as I add some support on my walls so these babies won't fall up they will go, can't wait!! I love the versatility of these speakers, you can use them as surround speakers which can be angled either out and downward or up toward your ceiling. Or you can mount them on top of your front end speakers, either way as I said they sound good and are well built and sturdy. I'm hardly an audiophile by the way but if you're looking for some solid speakers that won't break the bank pick these up.

The sony up firing Dolby Atmos speakers are a great addition to my sony avr making it now a 5.1.2 surround sound system. I set the pair up on top of my front main surround speakers, set as height surround. Make no mistake this added all the sounds I've missed before. Clearly a better difference to surround sounds. Could add 2 or more speakers for mid or back atmos effects depending on your avr set up and room size. Very happy with this purchase at this price. Clear and crisp atmos effect sound. I would recommend these speakers to a friend.

nice dolby atmos speakers that elevate listening experience and easy to connect to any receiver

I needed to add atmos speakers to complete my system. After researching several different brands I decided to go with these Sony atmos speakers. The sound is very balanced and neutral for speakers with a single full range driver. They have a wide frequency range and after trying different crossover points I put them at 80hz and they sound great for elevation sound effects. You can’t beat the value especially since they were on sale for $100 just before Christmas. I definitely recommend these if you’re looking for atmos speakers!

These are super awesome speakers for home theatre! Comes with mounts and rubber foot pads, and it’s Sony. Used them as height speakers (5.1.2) but prefer them as rear surround now (7.1). I like that it gives a full sound that fills the area they’re in vs. very distinct location type of sound. Being they’re wall mounted by design, it gives an “atmos” height feeling no matter where u put em

This is my first experience with Dolby Atmos speakers and boy am I happy! These sit on top of my Sony SCCS3 towers, and boy the difference in sound detail is incredible! My wife and I watched a few movies (Pacific Rim and Mad Max Fury Road) and man it's like being there in the scene! For such a small price, these deliver the detail in a big way! These are paired with my Sony receiver STRDH790. Thank you Sony!

The only real gripe/consumer warning I have is you’d be better off running 18 gauge wire for it over a standard 14. The connectors are pretty narrow and 14 is a tight squeeze. I’m using these as front-height presence speakers and with some minor adjustments in my receiver, these things are pretty incredible and really help fortify that “dome of sound” feeling

I needed these to activate Dolby Atmos on a 2015 Onkyo tx-nr636 receiver I have. Recently I purchased a new vizio quantum tv and Fire tv cube and wanted to see if Atmos would enhance the 5.1 setup. These sit on top of my Front pioneer tower speakers reasonably well. It did, and these do a good job of adding overhead sounds to an existing setup, if your receiver supports Atmos. I likely will add a new 9 channel receiver to go to a 5.1.4 Atmos setup in a few months. Since these were an open box return at about 50% off they were a good buy.

I use this as my upfiring Dolby Atmos channel in my 7.2.6 setup at home, and it works just fine. I'm not sure why the Sony representative in the questions/ answer said it wasn't used for such, because chances are, if you are to mount it to a ceiling, you would use a bipole, unless ofc you are mounting it downwards completely. I personally used it on video games, specifically triple-a titles, but even the minor titles that didn't support atmos, it did well. I specifically used it in 3rd person titles such as Nioh 2, Wolfenstein 2 TNO, and a few others. The sound field and directional hit really came through. As for movies, I used Tenet, a show called Succession, Warrior (HBO), and a few others, and tbh, for the most part they were spot on. I think lightning and thunder effects were spot on, but the times that they weren't, I feel it was due to the mixing. And let me explain. If an airplane started on the back two channels and moved forward to the front two channels, sometimes, the mixing for the middle would intentionally be skipped but, other times in other content it would play just fine. My biggest gripe with them is how lucky you can get and the height. I personally have these on top of speakers ofc, and those speakers are above 6'2" off the ground (using a speaker stand). They work well, but my ceilings are completely flat, and I had to test out a lot of atmos videos for my receiver before I really liked it - so your mileage may vary.

I was skeptical about elevation speakers due to having to bounce of a sloped ceiling. However, they work great. Great addition to the rest of the sony core series speakers I had. Elevated the sound up higher to sound more like its naturally coming from my tv. For dolby content, it is noticeably more immersive. I have it hooked up to the STN1080 receiver.
