Nice Effect

Owned for 1 month when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ran these on top of fronts for a month, they give an overhead effect if you increase the signal to them in the AVR when upfiring. But, I just mounted them on the wall today as height fronts pointing down; watching Apocalypse Now in 4K Atmos, the helicopter effects are immense, much stronger than before - I had to turn them down a bit, it was so strong. There is more localization on the wall vs dispersion firing up, but the overhead effect is more pronounced and separate from the front speakers now - I definitely prefer them down firing. They are really a bargain, maybe the SVS would sound better, but at $100-150, I think you will be happy.

Premium atmos speakers cost double this without the sale and after taxes. I will be keeping these til they give out or I can get a good deal on Premium atmos speakers.

The best option for elevation speakers

They deliver top notch sound adding to and completing the surround sound soundstage. These Sony speakers are well built and deliver expansive sounds. Have to admit initially I was skeptical about the difference they’d make; boy was I wrong!! Need to get another pair for my theatre room setup

I purchased an Dolby Atmos receiver and these speakers. I used the rest of my original setup and sound is night and day. I couldn't be happier.

Perfect for Dolby atmos and cheap

I'm writing this after a year of owning, and I am very happy with the Sony speakers, including these I purchased last year. Very impressive sound. I am not disappointed. I can hear the full 360 sound with these. I first noticed the amazing atmos sound, when during a scene change, I heard the crack of lightning and thunder, and rain. And I actually thought it was thundering outside. Only when I paused the movie to check the weather, did I realize it came from the movie. LOL, I am impressed! Be sure to run through the calibration settings on your receiver. Good Atmos depends on good settings!

That being said, I think the Dolby Atmos thing is doing out of proportion. Main reason is it's that the disks that we buy or what is being streamed is not the same in the movie theaters. Does it give some upwards? Ambience, yes and this is not the fault of the speaker but the way it's being mastered on Blu-ray and ultra Blu-ray discs is not what we are hearing in the theaters. Theaters. If you are looking or need extra speakers for Atmos I would recommend these but not do not use them upwards firing Mount them high near the ceiling facing down towards where you are sitting. I think Dolby DTS x is just as good and you don't have to buy extra speakers.

Additional information:
By installing the unit with the speaker faced towards ceiling, the effect of sounds coming from overhead can be obtained as the output sound reflects from the ceiling. This unit is designed to provide its performance as a Dolby Atmos-enabled speaker when installed on the front speaker horizontally. Also, you can use this unit as a rear speaker or a front high speaker.

Excellent speakers for your Sony Series!!

I did not attach as upward firing speakers instead, I mounted them as high surround and I seriously think this is the best option. The sound comes directly at you and not up. With the majority of movies now encoded so well, upward sound is not that big of a deal. So, if you're deciding, I'd say yes to these and mount somewhere differently than on top of floor standing speakers or firing upwards.
