Sony is Awesome - Brilliant Color - Excellent TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As expected, this TV is awesome all the way around, picture quality is totally amazing. Some complain about sound? I bought this for my 94yr ole mum. She has no problem hearing it! Of course sound can always be improved with a sound bar! Being a Smart TV, it has lots of extra features. Very easy to setup. I always buy Sony when it comes to TV, have 3 of them now. You cant go wrong Sony, excellent price, excellent quality. Going to buy another one for my shop!

A great TV with stunning picture ...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was debating between this Sony 40" TV vs Samsung's 40" since both prices were nearly identical. I finally decided on Sony because it's a 2016 model vs Samsung 2015 model and Sony's motion rate of 240 vs Samsung's 60. The TV is very thin at only 3/8" thick and quite light. Beautiful stunning pictures from using just the over the air antenna. The TV stand mounts to the bottom of the TV easily. However, the TV rear hookup orientation #all the jacks# is not good at all since they all face downwards instead of facing the back making it difficult to see the jacks. Also the Sony owner's manual lacks diagram schematics for people with older stereo receiver, VCR, DVD player, .... without HDMI jacks. TV does come with 2 sets of HDMI jacks and only 1 set of Red White Yellow component jacks #there's also a digital jack as well as an optical jack#. The TV speakers fire downwards and located on each end of the TV. Sound is OK for those small speakers but best to hook up a home theatre to it for better sound.

Very nicepanel for smaller rooms!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this Sony to upgrade to a larger screen size for our bedrooms (originally 3-year old 32", 780p flatscreens). This one had the best image quality for the resolution of all the 40" panels I viewed. After a few updates when we hooked up to wifi, which took a little time during setup, it looked even better than in store. The sound quality needed some tweaking to my liking, but we have a good EQ set for what we need for bedroom volume. I especially love the 24p compatibility with our Blu ray player. Overall, nice crisp, smooth picture with no judder at all that I can tell. Others may want a more robust sound coming out of this panel, and this is an issue with most all Sony flat screens, but for what we need, it works well. Having this one and looking at this and their other TV ranges, looks like a Sony will be in our future to upgrade our living room!

Beautiful picture, cheap speakers facing down!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The picture is great, very clear. Unfortunately, Sony puts their speakers at THE BOTTOM of the TV, not facing the viewer! The sound goes down, not out! Really Sony? Thanks to this design stupidity you have to really turn up the volume and may want or need exterior speakers!

A almost perfect TV would give 4.5/5
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let's start with picture it's great black's are great and colors are fantastic as well The main reason I got the tv. The Sound it great for what it has, and I did not expect it to be as loud as the movies. Feature's are basic for a smart tv but, you can get more app's in the app store but, since I really only use netflix it's fine if you want everything get a roku or hookup a box you like. The thing that sony messed up is in how many inputs it has. having 4 hdmi inputs would have been perfect for my need's but, I can get hdmi switch box's and it will be fine. and, it's nice it can do component and composite and their what you would expect from them. Then, the remote it's fine but, it will not blow you away as it's just a basic Sony remote. So, overall it's just nitpicking as I can live with the trade off for a better screen.

Great TV for Sports .It beats my 40" Plasma.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are a sports fan you will love the 240 Refresh rate. Motion flow 240 is works different than a true refresh rate, It adjusts the blacks 4 times faster. It works very well, I can see the spin on the baseball. I never watched hockey, before getting this tv, because I can not see the puck. I will tonight. My former tv a 40 inch Planar Plasma weighs 40 Lbs. This Sony, at 17 Lbs feels as light as a feather and much thinner at 2.6 inches. I am not using any of the Smart features. You can spend days on scrolling thru the controls for picture or sound. The set-up was a little confusing. I was asked if I want the pro set-up or regular. I chose regular and notice a few features are not available for use. I have it sitting on a table no wall mount it looks fine. I noticed at first it runs on a 24 volt adapter so it will use much less Electricity. I am guessing 1/5 of the electricity. If so I will save $20 a month and the TV pays for itself in 20 months. It has a sleep timer and a headphone Jack. You can also turn the picture off and just hear the sound. A great feature for trying to get to sleep.

Good Choice for Space
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We needed a 40" to fit a built-in space in our living room. I would have opted for a 4K but preferred to stick with a Sony and I'm glad we did. This TV has mediocre reviews online but I think the picture is great and it has good sound too. It only has two HDMI inputs so that can be an issue if you aren't using a soundbar. Clean design and clever stand are also highlights, though an external IR input would be nice.

Pleased with Purchase.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very good pictured. Colors are very vibrant. Minimal motion blur when watching sports (soccer and basketball, specifically). Another reviewer complains about the sound, but for a bedroom TV it's more than adequate. I compared it to the W600D that I've had for a year, and it's every bit as good, if not better. I like the base on this unit better too. My only complaint is, and it won't bother some, but unlike the W600D, this smart TV does not have Amazon Prime as a native app. It does have Netflix, and the remote even has a dedicated button. All in all, I'm very pleased.

Great Product. Great Price. Great Value.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After 14 years, my bedroom finally died. I have known for some time that when buying a smart TV, stay with brands that start with an "S" (Sony, Samsung). I check multiple reviews of several models on Best Buy and other websites, and it consistently had better reviews. Once I got to my local Best Buy, I looked at a couple of sizes and different brands. The Sonys and Samsungs "looked" better. As luck would have it a "black shirt" was walking thru the TV department. It was the Sony guy. Well, he even loaded the TV in my truck. Great Product. Great Price. Great Value.

Good picture, streaming not so much
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good physical design, very nice picture quality. Problems with WifI and streaming, very buggy. As "Smart" TV's go, minimal feature set. I regret not going with a Roku set. Bottom line: For cable TV this could be a great set, for streaming I'd keep looking. Very poor foreign technical support, the usual super polite reps that know nothing at all about the product and barely speak English beyond the standard "May I know your name?" and of course the classic "How are you doing today?"

Great TV - Weird AV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great TV for gaming, and I mean ALL kinds. I'm talkin about NES, SNES, Playstation1, etc. Only complaint is that the Video Composite connection is weird. They created a separate miniplug adapter for the composite/component connection. Very confusing upon initial unboxing I mean.. I guess its trivial to complain about in 2018, but some of us still use our oldschool equipment! Got this to replace an LG TV for gaming purposes. Picture quality is amazing, even from older sources

very good picture, but??
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.on our 2nd one. the first one died in less than 60 days. Picture is great and smart function worked fantastic on the first one until it died. clerk was surprised as well. he said he had never seen a new tv just die with no sound or no picture, nothing. Hopefully this 2nd one will last longer, as I replaced a 10 year old 37 in toshiba regza that I gave away to somebody who needed a tv.

Poor Design, very disappointed with SONY
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this TV to replace a 2006 SONY Bravia 40" that quite frankly did not need replacing. I wanted to connect my old SONY to an Amazon Fire Stick, but there was only a single HDMI port. So I decided to replace it with this 2016 model. Problem 1: In preparing the TV for wall mounting, I soon discovered that as a result of a design oversight the primary HDMI port will be blocked by the mounting kit. While the TV does have an Auxiliary HDMI port and I can use it for the connection to my cable box; this leaves me with a brand new version of the 2006 SONY and no additional HDMI port for auxiliary attachments. Problem 2: One of the benefits of this TV is that NETFLIX is suppose to be pre-loaded and no additional steps are required beyond loading your NFLX account info. Since this is a "Smart TV", during the set-up process you need to connect the device with your in-home WiFi connection. Upon doing this, the devise prompts you to connect it with SONY to register and check for software updates. Sure enough, a software update occurs and the TV cannot connect with Netflix. I spent over an hour on the phone in a Service Queue waiting for Tech Support this morning and gave up. This software update basically turned a Smart TV into a Dumb TV. If I had access to the 2nd HDMI Port I could have connected the Fire Stick and been done with the madness. Problem 3: The sound from this TV is terrible. With the 2006 model on a scale of 1-100; I had the sound set at 20. With this model, I have it set at 60! I am not sure where the speakers are, but based on the HDMI Port placement they are probably on the back! I would have given this TV ZERO stars, but I gave this TV a single star for its light weight, about 15 pounds. This makes it easy to dismount, put back in the box and return.
