Best 43" Smart 4K HDR Tv of 2016
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far ive had this tv for a month and I did have it crash once and reboot automatically and now it looks like i either didnt notice or this just happened but in the top center there are 2 dead pixels. Now to the common person they would never even notice such a thing but to a audio/videophile like myself I know this will end up driving me nuts. Besides the 2 things i just listed is tv is the has the best features and picture of out any ive seen at my local wal-mart or in any of my friends homes. Im not going to list all its selling points ill just recommend you go to ratings.com and they have a full break down of every area from hdr to 4k to basic features to input lag and screen settings. I will say it was a toss up between this tv and Samsungs KU7000 43" 4K HDR Tv. Ive had multiple Sony & Samsungs in the past and both proved to be very reliable quality tvs. My setup is as follows and its looks and sounds amazing: Sony XBR43X800D 4k/hdr tv hooked to Yamaha Aventage RX-A840 AVR running #2 Polk Monitor 70 Speaker, #2 Jamo Bookshelf, #2 Polk OWM3 Wall mounted, Sony Soundbar & subwoofer. Also connected is a Xbox One, Chromecast Ultra 4k, Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 Router, Xfinity X1 1080p DVR. All hdmi cables are Monster ISF 1250HD 18gbs w/ performance indicator and are Active 5ft runs. My optical cables are AudioQuest Forest 5' cables. The tv/avr stand is by Convience Concepts Designs 2Go: Monterey XL 59" Tv stand. Soundbar is mounted to tv w/ Rocketfish Soundbar/tv mounts and the tv and soundbar are mounted to a single stud via Fleximounts A20 full motion tv wall mount. Everything is plugged into a 3600joule Rocketfish surge protector. Also the sound system use Cmple cl3 wall rated 14awg speaker wire and all speaker connections are made w/ Nackimichi gold plated banana plugs in back of AVR, all speakers & banana plug wall outlet.

Incredible picture quality and design.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought a PS4 Pro and have been shopping around for the best television for it within my budget. After doing a lot of research, I decided the X800D was the best choice, as it's the highest rated 4K HDR UHDTV with wide color gamut under $1,000. The design is fantastic, it's lightweight and the picture quality is superb. Also, all of the apps and menus are quick and simple and the setup was a breeze as well. This replaced my 1080p Philips HDTV that I bought back in 2007, right when 1080p was new. The difference between the two is unbelievable. Especially on games that support HDR or higher resolution. There are only two slightly negative things I can say about it. First, the speakers aren't the greatest, which is to be expected. They sound fine, but they are on the bottom of the television facing down, so they just sound odd. I fixed this by getting a Sony HTXT2 2.1 channel soundbar that has a built-in subwoofer. It sounds pretty great for the price, and it's made for a television to stand on it, so that is a huge plus. Lastly, the picture quality drastically degrades from an angle. If you don't always sit directly in front of your television, then I would suggest getting the 49" version. It has an IPS panel, so the picture will not degrade at an angle to the degree that the 43" does. No complaints otherwise!

Amazing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Four years ago I went from a 36" Toshiba tube TV to a Panasonic plasma. I vividly recall the first time I turned on the plasma and being blown away, very much the same "leap" experience with the XBR-43X800D. The user interface is polished from the moment you push the power button on this 4K beauty as it gracefully guides you through the setup process. We're only using Netflix and a $60 Blu-Ray player for content and the upscaling is truly impressive. Things will only get better when hopefully 4K really takes off. And let's not forget overall appearance, this is one thin sexy TV! Love the stand with the cable hiding features, leaves all the competitors in the dust. The only weak point is the same as the old Panasonic where the default picture setting choices while good are not great. Good news is the calibration settings in the link below are spot on perfect. Look forward to seeing other settings in future reviews specific to the 800D's. Can't go wrong with this one! https://reviews.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/sony-lcd-tv/sony-x850c-x830c-picture-settings.html

Posted .Hello, thank you for your message. NOTE: If the TV is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the TV. Oscar.

High quality at a very low price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purpose of this TV: small bedroom TV, not my main TV Choices: $700 for Sony 830C (2015 model) or $750 for Sony X800D (2016 model) Best features of Sony 830C: 120 Hz native refresh rate, X1 processor (Sony's top processor), low price Best features of Sony X800D: Triluminos color system (Sony's top of the line), HDR, low price. I chose the 43" X800D. Summary: I'm very happy with purchase of the 43" Sony X800D TV. Some details: 1. This small TV is for my bedroom, not my main TV. It's the perfect size for a bedroom. Any bigger TV would dominate the room; any smaller TV is harder to watch. 2. I've mostly watched Netflix and Amazon Prime Video HD movies and TV shows on the new Sony, and the resolution, sharpness, and color couldn't be better. My main TV (in another room) is the 55" LG OLED 1080p (non-4K) TV, so I'm used to extreme clarity, and the Sony compares nicely with the OLED (really!). I signed up for the Netflix 4k subscription service to see how 4K movies would look on my new X800D, but was disappointed in the exceedingly small number of available movies and in the sharpness of those movies on my new 4k TV. They did not have the amazing 3D-type quality and razor-sharp images you see in the store demos of all 4K TV's. Exception: the very small number of short documentary movies looked spectacular, just like the demos in the stores. They were clearly photographed with high quality 4K cameras, while the 4K commercial movies may have been modified from HD to 4K using software (just a guess on my part). Same thing with the tiny number of Amazon Prime 4K movies: just not all that impressive. Luckily, the sharpness of the regular HD movies (upscaled automatically to fit onto the 4K Sony X800D) more than makes up for the lackluster quality of the 4K movies. By the way, I had no problem with delays or pauses while watching any of the 4K movies on Netflix or Amazon Prime Video on my Comcast WiFi network. 3. I have not plugged the X800D into my regular Comcast cable TV system. A few months ago, I purchased a 65" 2016 Sony 930D, a very high end TV, but returned it a few days later because I was so disappointed at how poorly it upscaled the regular HD cable channels. Since I won't be watching regular TV channels in my bedroom, it doesn't matter to me if my new 43" X800D displays cable channels well or not. If you were intending for this to be your main TV, however, this would probably be quite important if you watch a lot of cable TV channels. Since big box stores do not hook up their 4K TVs to local cable systems, it's quite difficult if not impossible to figure out in advance if you'll be satisfied with how a new 4K TV handles regular HD cable channels. 4. My only quibble with the X800D is the remote control. It's not backlit like the remotes of other new TVs and cable TV remotes, which I wouldn't have thought would be important, but it is somewhat annoying since the lights in my bedroom are turned down low when I watch my new X800D. A second issue is the overall cheapness/poor design of the remote, particularly in the up, down, left, and right buttons. They are located inside a circle on the remote, and the outer sections of the circle are also active control buttons -- it's really easy to accidentally click the outer section and go zooming off on some unexpected tangent. You have to rely on the tactile feel of the tiny nubs on the up, down, etc., buttons to distinguish where your finger is resting. Important enough to not buy this TV? Not at all. This is a truly fabulous TV for $750.

Top of the line image handling
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Right out of the box the picture is great, though I had to google a few things to make it better for use on the PC. The manual is OK, but it's not as in depth as it could be, like the one that came with my older XBR6. For PC use I needed to go to use the HOME menu button on the remote and from there scroll down to "Settings". Then go to "External Inputs", "HDMI signal format", and then choose "Enhanced". Only then from within nVidia Control Panel could I select 3840 x 2160 and YcbCr444 as the Output color format. Without "Enhanced" being set we're limited to YcbCr422. We also need to use HDMI connector 2 or 3 on the back on the TV for the best PC picture. I'm using a very inexpensive high speed HDMI 2.0 cable and it works great. Probably any HDMI cable is all one needs. But fwiw I had originally tried an old, very cheap, regular speed HDMI 1.4 cable that worked fine with the 4:2:2 color space but it couldn't handle YcbCr444 at 3840 x 2160. This might be connected to why "Enhanced" is not the default setting. I have a great Sony Blu ray player but if I use it on either HDMI connector 2 or 3 when they are set to "Enhanced" mode I get no audio. It works amazingly well on the other connectors. Again, this could be why "Enhanced" is not the default setting. Though maybe it's needed for UHD Blu ray players? If you want to use Game mode for its lowest latencies there is still a trick you can use to improve perceived frame rate without increasing lag. Under "Motion" in the Picture settings of the Action Menu you'll see that you can adjust "Clearness". Apparently that engages backlight flashing that can help a lot. It will dim the picture brightness a bit, but I just raise brightness in the Action Menu and it's as good as ever. If you choose not to use game mode then latency isn't increased that much even with other processing effects engaged. It would still be under 50 milliseconds according to the site that reviewed this set. There are two great reviews of this set online. The latest one gives the measurements of latencies. There is also a dedicated thread to this set at the avsforum. A reviewer of this set has posted there, and a couple of the people have contacted Sony with questions. I mention that to give you an idea that the thread is a great resource. I guess we're not supposed to post links? For the reviews just google the sets name along with "review". The latest one is from rtings.com. If you look closely within the review you'll see a link to the calibration settings that were used. For the avs forum thread just google "Sony 2016 XBR-43X800D / X800D Owners Thread". The android interface/remote control occasionally become unresponsive, briefly, when I'm ripping around through it. I'm guessing a future update will take care of that. There has been one already, it came out around a week ago.

Amazing quality!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This TV is phenomenally better than the Vizio I had purchased before! I am so happy that I decided to exchange the products out because I still can't believe TV can look this good. I have been testing it out with Netflix 4K HDR and WOW. Night and day between this TV and the Vizio I had beforehand (the Vizio I had before was 43" 4k but did NOT include HDR). The only thing I did not like about the TV is that the remote is lagging and sometimes unresponsive, although I did not dock it a star because the picture is still amazing.

Great Smart TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We needed a new tv quickly, as ours broke two days after Christmas, after all the holiday sales were pretty much done. We found this one as an open box on the floor, so it was a bit cheaper. We hadn't bought Sony products in a while, as Samsung has become our new favorite. The tv has exceeded our expectations, the picture is amazing! We love it! The menu on the smart tv is easy to figure out. The thin frame allows for a bigger screen, which is nice since the tv set needs to fit inside an entertainment center.

LOVE my new TV!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned this Sony for a little over 1 month now and am completely enthralled with the color, picture, ease of remote, and overall quality experience. I bought the Sony sound bar too. I hadn't bought a TV in about 20 yrs and feel like I'm in a new world. I have never enjoyed watching TV as much as I do now. Can't say enough about my new Sony. I also bought the Geek Squad delivery and set up and would do the same again. VERY happy with the entire experience!

Very Satisfied with the XBR43X800D :)
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The XBR43X800D has an excellent Picture quality and sound quality is pretty good I prefer to use home theater speakers instead. No complaints with picture quality. As matter fact the XBR43X800D is 20 times better than my old tv Philips 40PFL4706 which was 20 times worse then the XBR43X800D. Only complaints negatives of this tv is it is little buggy running android tv os. Occasionally there will be a bug where there is no sound and I have to unplug reset the tv, another bug that happened was when I was in video app the tv crashed and restarted android boot up. So other than those bugs this tv is a great buy. For a mid range tv like the XBR43X800D it has hdr features a higher end 4k tv would have, so this tv is a steal :) Oh one last thing here are my picture settings you can try and see if you like it. Here are my best picture settings for XBR43X800D . I spent a lot of time calibrating this tv. I use picture mode's Cinema Home and Game. Light Sensor ON for deepest black levels Brightness 28 Color 53 skin tone does not look too saturated which is good. Live color off Advanced contrast off black adjust off Contrast 90 Gamma -1 Black level 40 Motion Flow off except for animated Content. Sharpness 60 reality creation off cinemotion off display area set to full pixel in screen settings

If your looking for a 43 inch TV, buy this one
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.TV for our workout room: I originally purchased the Samsung UN43KU7000FXZA and thought it was pretty decent for TV and movies, but not as good as I had hoped when watching sports. The Samsung struggled with fast motion, but I probably would have lived with it if my wife didn't absolutely hate the smart remote. I took it back and exchanged it for this TV, the Sony XBR43X800D. I originally couldn't decide between the two TV's. The Sony XBR43X800D absolutely has a superior picture, and it isn't even close in my opinion(especially for sports). If you ware trying to decide between these 2 tv's, go Sony. I spent about an hour calibrating each tv to get the best picture. An added surprise is this TV has a built in chromecast, which works great.

Exceptional Quality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my fourth Sony television upgrade (not out of necessity - I just like to experience the newest technology) in the past twelve years and this model didn't let me down. The picture quality is excellent with deep blacks and exceptional detail throughout the screen. Seriously, the only complaint that I have for Sony is the absence of a Ultra HD Blu-Ray player to compliment this fine television so that I can watch my 4K Ultra HD films.

Love it!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just bought this TV a few days ago. So far, I love it. I have been a Samsung TV person for many years and I did get a Samsung Smart TV first. The smart TV options were very disappointing. So I searched for the best and this one popped up. Also, I have never been one to look for the best picture necessarily. And I still am not really, but the picture on this TV is incredible! I might not be the best judge but to me..... WOW!!! I don't have cable so I also got a TERK antennae. With the great reception from the TERK and the online viewing options that come with this TV, who needs to pay that monthly cable bill? Not me. :) Also, have to say, the Best Buy people were fabulous. Their was an issue with the first one I brought home. I couldn't have asked for better customer service in dealing with that.

Great TV, But Frustrated
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just purchased this TV Yesterday as a bedroom unit. It is the perfect size. Major issue for me though is that my DirecTV Box is not in the same location as the TV, so I previously used an ActionTec Wireless HD System (Specifically the MWTV-200R) to send video across the room to the TV with a transmitter/receiver. With my old TV, this worked absolutely fine. However, when hooking up the wireless receiver to the TV, only a frozen picture comes up of half the screen (See attached photo). Made sure all my HDMI cables are 4K supported, etc, and system still wouldn't work. May end up returning this only because I can't run an HDMI cable across the room to the location of the TV and right now I've got a 50' HDMI snake laying across the floor to make it work . Other than that though, the picture is incredible and looks for great on the Xbox One S. Sound is very good as well!

Best TV for the Money!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this tv two weeks ago at a Best Buy & I absolutely love it!!! This replaced a 2008 37" Sony Bravia HD TV which had been a great tv over the years & this new tv is a huge leap forward! Picture quality is top notch, the speakers sound great & it has lots of settings to satisfy your needs! I love the motion-flow setting which makes the picture movements faster & much smoother looking. I've been using it in a small bedroom & it's a great size! You currently won't find a better tv for the price than this one, especially since it's a Sony! A lot of tv for the money! Buy it now!
