This tv isn’t bad but it’s not worth the money I paid for it. It’s not very bright and sometimes gets stuck. I have to unplug to reset. 5 weeks after purchase it went on sale few hundred dollars.

I got this Sony because it would fit in the space that I needed it to. It does not work out like I would like it too. Should have bought a Samsung.

Sony has a great reputation but this TV did not meet standards. In less than 3 weeks, the picture would randomly turn orange, yellow and purple. Had to turn off the TV and once turned on again, to get normal colors. Also, picture quality was not as good as my Samsung or LG TV's. I returned the TV for a replacement of a different brand.

    High quality bright sharp TV

I invested the equivalent of days in researching. It's very difficult these days as all the stores have loops on their sets that seemed designed to prevent one from getting the relevant information. One needs people and action, not animation, and though slow moving nature scenes can show off color and sharpness, they leave out other important elements. I looked for the right standards in four areas: brightness, how white the whites are, motion capture, and the quality of the motion. There is a standard to brightness; some will say it's a preference, but it isn't. Is the image as bright as it's supposed to be? Is it bright enough?Unfortunately there is no brand that all models will be the right brightness; not Samsung, not Sony, not LG. It's scattered and one has to look at the specific model and size in the store to confirm it. It's hard to tell sometimes as they put their promotional loops on that have snow-covered mountains in the sun (LG) or a sun-drenched white-walled condo (Sony 49" 800 e) but these seemed designed to convince you they are bright enough when by my assessment they are not. I concluded that this Sony 43" and the 49" 720 e ARE the accurate brightness, that they are as bright as they should be. And be aware that going up a model or two does NOT mean the standard is retained. I almost bought the Sony 49" 900 e but fortunately they had it set up in the magnolia room with a movie playing. After first confirming it was set to max on all aspects of brightness, I watched it for 20 minutes and concluded it just wasn't as bright as it should be. [N.B. at this time I'll inform some of you that some TVs come with an "eco -switch" turned on to save energy and this significantly reduces brightness. Turn it off to get the true setting.] The 43" 720 e has good whites as well. About the color: some TVs like this have accurate, realistic color, and some come with tech that makes the colors "pop". I think this is a matter of preference. I watched a forest scene on this at home I thought the colors were not particularly vibrant; but then looked out the window and saw that the forest there, if transferred to the TV, would be exactly the same. I like the accuracy. I found the black areas to be reasonable, but they do not show much, and some cases, no detail. Watching old X-Files episodes or a medieval-set drama where there are lots of darkened rooms, I found some of the areas to be mostly kept in black, but I think that reflects the filming of the original. The motion capture is perfectly good at 120; there's no blurring. The quality of the motion: Sony consistently is great at having natural movement and the 720 e and all the others of Sony I looked at had it. Unlike some of the Samsungs, which have a digital quality to their motion, even on slow things (check out the loop that is filmed in Italy where food is being placed on a plate). I know someone who has a 1080 Samsung and there the motion seems natural so if you're looking at Samsungs be sensitive to that. This is really a great, sharp TV that to some degree can simulate a movie theater feel. Even this size, the 43", if I sit closer to the screen--which you can do with these--gets you close to an " impression" of a movie as if on a big screen. (though if I wanted to create a truer movie theater experience I'd go a size larger). So that's an option to keep in mind. So in conclusion--If you don't mind not having a lot of detail in black areas, I highly recommend this unit. Now advice about using your time effectively in researching TVs, specifically about revws: I found from experience that 98% of TV revws are a completely worthless waste of time that would be better spent in the store. They like to tell you which room to put it in (really?) or that it's a replacement (so what?) or that it is bright (but have they really studied the brightness?). There is no substitute for going to the store and taking time to assess the specific one you're considering. Also be aware that sometimes at the Best Buy website the technical details may not be accurate so check the box and/ or the Sony website to be sure ( this model was listed as "no" for HDR yet it said it was HDR right on the box).
