Just bought this tv on Black Friday, was working great, graphics were nice and easily accessible controls but today when I turned it on, I all of a sudden have a series of white vertical lines running down my tv screen. I have no idea where these came from but for only being a few months old and for around $500 I’m severely dissatisfied that this has happened. Don’t know how to fix it and I screwed myself by not getting the protection plan for this tv because I trusted the great reviews on here. Never doing that ever again for these pricey TVs if they’re this fragile.

Friends, I have to caution you not to purchase this TV or any Sony TV at this moment. I currently have five in my household. In November Sony pushed out a firmware update that broke functionality to communicate with CEC devices (basically anything plugged in with HDMI). AppleTV, Blu-ray, PS, Xbox, etc. while you can stream content you cannot control the device or vice versa. Basic function such as powering off the TV won’t work. Even the Sony TV remote won’t reliably turn off the tv. I am forced to wait for the tv to auto shut off each day. There are plenty of people hopping mad about this. Just check the Sony Forums. It’s been six months without a formal acknowledgment from Sony or any hint of a fix. I must therefore warn you not to purchase this TV. I will be leaving this same post on the other four Sony TVs I purchased at Best Buy so you don’t think this is a false blast against Sony. I wish I had my money back and could return these five units and get something else that works.

Purchased on August 21, 2021. Worked amazing until today (October 18, 2022). Last night was working perfectly fine and this morning the screen would not stop flickering. Messaged Sony and tried numerous tricks to get it to stop but unfortunately no help. Additionally will not assist in fixing as I’m just over the one year mark. For a $600 tv I would expect this to last longer than a year as every other tv I own is 4-5 plus years and have no issues (LG not Sony). Will never purchase another Sony.

Very good picture, especially with DolbyVision, and good enough sound for a small room. Also used it as a computer monitor for many months before making it my bedroom TV, and it has a "Game" setting plus HDR that makes it excellent for that job.
My only issue with it at all would be that it was too tall for me to use a computer monitor, with me needing to tilt my head frequently to even notice anything at the top or bottom of the screen. However the width was right at the maximum that I found comfortable. So much so that I bought a 45" curved ultrawide monitor that is almost the exact same width (1-2" wider), which has turned out to be perfect for me.

I tried the Sony X800F, the LG 7 series, and the Samsung Q60.
For picture, the Sony was the best. It was crisp, bright, and natural looking. The LG had washed out looking color and couldn't get very bright. The Samsung QLED had lots of color, but I'm not a fan of the QLED because it looks fake and unnatural to me. And the Samsung had lots of reflections and poor viewing angle.
For sound, the LG was the best. I wouldn't even need a sound system with it. The Sony had the worst sound, lots of distortion just listening to basic dialog. It was awful. The Samsung had ok sound, not as good as the LG. It sounded like instead of just getting the basics of the sound right they tried to get fancy and extend the bass and make it surround, but it just made it sound weird.
As far as interface, the LG just wows me with the magic remote and nice clean interface! The LG wins hands down, and it's not even close. The Sony is just basic -- doesn't do anything special, but it's fine and doesn't get in the way. The Samsung interface just seems to be overbearing and in your face and just annoys me.
Overall, I think I like the LG the most. The picture could be better, but I get used to it and it doesn't bother me, and it's so much cheaper. The Sony is great if you're using a sound system, but the horrible TV speakers never stop bugging me. Everything about the Samsung bothers me. The picture, sound, and interface all seem gimmicky and like they couldn't get the basics right because they tried to do something fancy.

We feel this ‘43 in Sony is the best in its class. The picture is clear & vivid. The sound is actually quite good for a flat screen.
The loaded apps are appropriate & current. It is extremely easy to download additional apps as needed.
The screen formatting is easy to use. The voice control is responsive. The transponder/controller is easy to use & touch sensitive.
We have 1000 films loaded onto a USB unit....the Sony handles our viewing of this unit quite nicely.
We are pleased with our purchase & very satisfied with the geek squad installation!!

You get what you pay for. Sure there are less expensive 42" TV's out there...but, they are NOT Sony. I recently upgraded THREE Samsung HDTVs all about 10-12 yrs old. These Sonys are high end (esp the OLED 65"). As for this 42"...just as good. The colors are crisp. The refresh rate is quick, and with OTA high definition broadcasts...insane excellent. I LOVE the variable 3.5mm stereo headphone jack. Why? You can hook up a micro amp/speaker system or soundbar w/o the need for another remote control. The onboard APPs are excellent (Android based). If you have a Google account and Android phone...set up is easy. As for Samsung...they just don't compare to Sony for simplicity, quality, and onboard APPs. And good luck finding one with a "true" variable output headphone jack. Loving all three of my Sonys.

Short short short power cord.
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
My main complaint is not the TV itself but the ridiculously short power cord. The attached picture shows the cord at a whopping 22 inches from tip to tail. By the time you allow for bends at the connectors its really only about 16 inches usable length. You might say well this is all you need since like all TVs these days the power cord only has to plug into transformer that sits on the floor which then has its its own longer cord to the TV. Problem is even the cord from the transformer to the TV was still not long enough to reach the TV sitting on my dresser in the bedroom. So right out of the box I needed an extension cord. Of course the extension cord goes from the wall to the transformer which now sits on the dresser with the TV. Other than that the TV is the usual Sony expected high quality. Hey Sony, spend an extra 50 cents and make the power cord an actual practical usable length.

Definitely the best picture and sound I've ever had. This replaced an 8yr. old Samsung. Picture is sharper compared to HD, and the color is rich but also more natural. I could even tell the color of the eyes of a local newscaster. Since I have a significant hearing loss and hearing aids do not reproduce all sounds accurately, I'm not the best judge for the sound. But I did notice that I could set it for better clarity than my Bose sound bar. Hooking up my old Panasonic dvd player and my Roku device was a snap. Remote isn't quite as handy as Samsung, but Sony's guide feature was far, far better. Now, for the irritating part. Sony seems to assume that almost everyone will hang their set on a wall. Mine goes in an armoire, so installing the two pairs of feet was a necessity. Should have been easy; each pair of feet has a tang that slips into a slot on the bottom edge of the screen. But you must install two screws to hold it in place. Sony decided to save a few pennies by making you supply your own screws. Having sold hardware for 12 years and having a well-stocked hardware store nearby kept this from being a major problem. But how many other buyers were frustrated by this practice. Still, I highly recommend this model. Just be prepared to buy screws, size 4mmx10mm (metric size). And pull out your Spanish/English dictionary to read the registration card.

The picture quality of this tv is way better than I could have expected. Colors are vibrant and images are sharp and clear. You can view the picture clearly all the way to a side view. Sound is excellent and plenty loud enough. Super easy setup. Plenty of apps to use and very easy to follow the menu. The slim profile works perfectly for our wall mount. Beautiful simple design. This is a quality tv that exceeds my expectations - and very reasonably priced!

We hold on to TVs for a long time, so I don't know how this compares to other new TVs, but it's great for us. We just do regular cable TV watching, no streaming or complicated things, so I can't comment on that. The picture is clear and very easy to use with our cable remote. It was easy to set up ourselves, which was one of our worries, and we didn't have to call the cable company for any programming help. Sony has always been a name I trust, and I thought Best Buy had a great price on it.

So much better than our Samsung TV's. The picture quality is just stellar at any angle.
This set is best mounted onto a wall if space is limited in that the supplied feet/stand is space-consuming.
APPS are included and you'll find all of the major apps for Netflix, YouTube and on and on.
Wi-Fi connection and overall set-up was far too easy. The included remote is very responsive, thin and well designed.
A bit more pricey than say a Samsung or LG but justified without hesitation.
A full 5-Stars from Sony.
