Solid Picture Performance from Sony

We needed a TV in our master bedroom and originally picked the 40" Sony from the same series. After a couple weeks of watching from the reclined position in bed, we needed more screen. So the 40" went into our daughter's room (spoiled? Probably) and we picked up the 48". It's a much better fit for the room. The tv itself is nice, but occasionally, pressing the Netflix button on the remote will error out and you have to access Netflix via the Apps under the remote's 'home' button. Slightly annoying. Intermittently we've had wifi issues, but can't pinpoint them to the TV or AT&T U-Verse fiber router. But aside from that, the screen is clear and bright for its intended purpose. Movies in bed or news in the morning. Lol, it's not 4K or OLED, but I 'think' I only paid a few hundred bucks for it. It was a great deal for a bedroom TV. Which brings me to say, all 4 TVs in the house are Sony. Not because they're always the best picture (they're not) BUT the do link with my Sony receivers/blu-ray players/media and that's super convenient. The 65" Sony 4K HDR in the basement is AWESOME, but I've never written a review for it.

Great picture. Easy to use and convenient when I want to watch hulu or netflix. I also love the fact that I can stream videos to the tv from my phone. The only downside was that I would have to buy a wall mount specifically made for this tv or else you can't use the HDMI in the back because the wall mount covers it.

I bought this TV because it's the only Sony HDTV left on the shelves after the company decided to transition to UHDTV for the North American market and because I had multiple Sony soundbars to use with this and several other Sony HDTVs that I purchased around the same time. You can still buy Sony HDTVs in various sizes in the UK and Europe, but not here in the US. As such, this is not a high-quality product like the Sony HDTVs from 6-7 years ago. It has a low-grade display panel, a thin and flimsy build that makes it prone to damage if not handled delicately when removing from the box or installing, and has a minimal assortment of low-quality streaming apps. To start with, the panel on the TV is of a very low-grade, which is to be expected from a company that no longer manufacturers the panels used for it's TV. When viewing video on the screen, there is significant noise and visual distortion present, regardless of video settings. Add to that the annoying "Scene Mode" that frequently adjusts the picture based on the source, and you get a very unsatisfying experience. Most people won't care though. If you want to use the TV for gaming, it performs wonderfully for that purpose, despite the low-grade display panel. For streaming, there are only a handful of services that come installed on the TV and you can't add more like you can on other Smart HDTVs. In fact, calling this a Smart HDTV is just wrong, because it's really nothing of the sort and is simply a TV with basic streaming video - Netflix, Amazon Video, Hulu, and some oddballs thrown in - and nothing else. As far as sound goes, the sound from the speakers is acceptable, but lacks any real punch, so use a soundbar if you really want to get more from your experience. Since the TV only has 2 HDMI inputs - both are about 3-4 inches apart in the rear, despite the specs mistakenly referring to one as being on the side because it's oriented sideways and outward like the older side inputs once were - for sources, using a mid-range HDMI soundbar from Sony is recommended, because they have at least 3 HDMI ports to use for sources, giving you a total of 4 HDMI sources to connect to the TV, covering all the bases for cable/gaming/blu-ray, while leaving an extra port for a streaming box. Overall, it's a perfect TV for something like a bedroom dresser serving as a TV stand or some other cozy watching area, but not suitable for a common area like a family room or any home theater area. I managed to get the TV out of the box and onto a dresser without damaging it, but others may have difficulty doing the same, because of the flimsy build and thin chassis. In order to install the support base for the TV, it must be laid down on it's front so that the base can be installed and secured with two screws, and then picked up by it's sides to be placed on a dresser. The easiest way to do this is to simply put the box for the TV on it's side and leave the bottom of the TV hanging over the edge of the box, so you have enough room to install the base. This is also the best way to install a rear mount for the TV, if you are going to mount it on a wall or stand. Putting the TV on a bed to install the base or a mount is not recommended because the static electricity from the bed, sheets, and your body can damage the TV.

I bought this TV for. The bedroom. Don't watch it alot, but when I do, it performs well. I use an external antenna for over the air local digital TV plus also stream Netflix and HBO and Amazon prime. You can also mirror a smart phone or tablet and watch browser or other app videos that way. There are some apps you can install from Sony app store (or whatever they call it), but I didn't find a whole lot that interested me. Netflix, Amazon and HBO are what I watch online mostly. But YouTube and some of the music channels or apps might get a little viewing or listening every now and again. One nice feature is ability to blank the screen if you are just listening to music on this TV.
If you don't like to do mirroring, you can also just plug a chrome cast stick (or similar item) into one of the USB inputs.
Setup was fairly easy. Remote is adequate and picture on over the air antenna and streaming is very nice. I'm fine with just 1080 HD; especially since it is not my prime TV and I don't have DVD or Blu-ray connected to it.

Replaced a 10 year old Sony LCD that was perfect until an ill-tempered gamer took out his frustration on it. Could not believe the beautiful picture and light weight of this new Sony. Of course prices have dropped since 10 years ago, but the quality has increased too. Looking forward to many years enjoying this TV... The gamer is not allowed to use this one!

I was looking for a TV in the $500.00 price range and the Best Buy representative recommended this model. I am happy to say that his judgement was sound and that I could not be any happier with this product than I already am. The picture and sound are great. The internet connectivity is great. The TV weighs almost nothing. You cannot go wrong with this model!

Let me start off by saying that I am a tv snob. I have owned many flat screens but this Sony is the best. The reds look much better than previous models. Also the smart option is great for viewing Netflix and Hulu. I am very satisfied with this purchase and I am confident you will be also.

Best TV I have ever owned with regard to picture quality and features. I do wish the peripheral outputs were better as to different formats - RCA, speaker wiring, etc. The speakers in these monitors are pitiful. Hookups for DVD, VHS, etc could be vastly improved. But works with my sound system fine. I probably just need a 12 year old to set it up... :-)

This is the second Sony I've purchased and am very happy with picture quality, sound and ease of setting it up. I haven't used any of the "smart" features so I can't rate that feature at this time.
I still have my first Sony which is 10 years old and has never had a problem. Hope this new one performs as well.
