The quality of the picture on this thing is amazing! The gizmos and gadgets available are nice, however not totally practical in use. I had to mirror cast with my phone just to use Spotify, which I understand Sony owns. So with that, the remote that comes with it is pretty cool other than it doesn't light up in the dark. Using the keyboard for the apps in the android system is for the birds! One little letter at a time. Boring...by the time I enter my username and password for apps, I am so fed up with all that that I had forgotten what I was even trying to do or watch. Luckily I have extra time for getting through this or I would have returned the tv already. End of the day...price was acceptable for the quality of picture and what it CAN do. The industry has a ways to go yet with merging the android with the smart tv and its functions in my opinion, but I am overall pleased with this item.

Around a year ago i was in a search for a 4k tv around this price range and it was in between this TV, an LG and a Samsung one. I did extensive research on the panels and it appears that this one is best suited for gaming, whereas the Samsung was better for Movies. Reason being, the Sony has an IPS panel and has some backlight bleeding (not noticable with gaming or some shows on netflix), however, you notice it when you watch a blueray and it has the black bars on bottom and top.
that aside, for gaming this is perfect and for the year ive had it, i wouldnt choose anything else (for the price). The remote controls my Sony bluray player and my PS4. also, pressing my PS button on my PS4 controller turns on the TV. HDR looks beautiful in games as well.

Best 4K TV I've used yet

PROS:
-Excellent upscaler
-Very sharp and vivid colors
-Very light
-4 HDMI ports (of which 2 are noteworthy, see CONS)
-Decent price. A TV this size 2yrs ago would've been about $1500 easily
-Color representation is top notch
-Onboard speakers are decent
CONS:
-Dim screen, I have to set contrast and gamma levels to MAX just to see the content on the screen
-If you have a 4K HDR streaming device you'd like to connect, you can only use HDMI port 2 and 3
-To view 4K HDR content via a streaming device through HDMI ports 2 and 3, you have to manually set them to 'enhanced' or your device will not output the content properly
-The onboard Android TV system for the Sony Bravia is very limited. You can't even view 4K content at 60fps. The TV's onboard YouTube app seems to only output 1080p MAX. You need to use an external streaming device to output 4K HDR content at a proper 60fps (you'll notice this when you go to YouTube and attempt to view 4K 60fps videos via the built-in Android TV, you'll only see 1080p as an option for video quality). Thankfully, I still had my Nvidia Shield that outputs 4K HDR content quite well.
Conclusion: Every TV has its quirks. I honestly think this is one of the best 4K TVs I've ever used (I've setup quite a few of my friends' and family member's 4K TVs that were more expensive than this one yet didn't really grasp my attention). The visuals are very sharp. My only gripe is that there's this bug where only HDMI ports 2 and 3 can output 4K HDR at 60fps. Why HDMI ports 1 and 4 are not equally set to that is beyond my comprehension. Lastly, if you own a Playstation 4, in an unsurprising manner - games look fantastic on the Sony Bravia (as opposed to my Samsung 4K HDR 40" TV). Just a suggestion here, any 4K TV less that 49"-50" is a waste of money UNLESS you are really sitting up close to the TV. This 49" is large enough where you can notice the resolution and clarity.

I was interested in upgrading to a 4K television for the latest technology. If you need a new TV, this Sony is a reasonable choice. If you just want an upgrade, don't waste your money - the higher screen resolution compared to HDTV is not worth it with cable and broadcast television content. I would like to point out that I work in medical diagnostic imaging and work with 5K monitors all day long.
The picture quality is quite good, don't get me wrong. It has excellent sharpness, contrast, and color fidelity and saturation.
I found several problems with this unit. First, it is linked to android and google so they want you to sign up with them. Who knows if this is private. Second, the unit plays back my high definition home movies which are encoded in mpeg very poorly - the motion is so choppy you can't watch more than a minute or get a seizure. I tried multiple apps, complete package of video codecs, etc. Third, I have not been able to get the Bluetooth to pair with any of several different devices. When the pairing process displays the code numbers, the unit responds they are incorrect even though they are identical. The buttons on the remote are not very good - Samsung makes better ones.
The Netflix and Amazon movie apps worked satisfactorily.
I buy lots of technology, and this is one of the few where I had buyer's remorse.

Great TV For The Sale Price.

This is a great TV for the sale price of $399. At the regular price it's a little difficult for me to determine without any real online reviews (there aren't any) performing real tests with actual results.
However, for me, this unit really impresses with:
Contrast - This TV has an IPS panel, which is a great feature on any TV for it's increased viewing angle, but usually comes with a compromise in terms of contrast. I find the contrast to be very good on this set. Definitely better than a Sony X700D, and, I dare say, a little better than a X800D.
Smart features - The WebOS is very good, and they kind of make it fun to use. Some other platforms (like Android) still have a better app selection, but, for the most part, that's easily compensated with a smartphone.
Picture - Nice vivid colors and deep blacks with great uniformity. And motion, while maybe not perfect, is pretty good. For me it's really not the objects that have an issue with motion blur on most flat panel TV's, it's the playing surfaces in any sport. So while a Samsung 8 series might be an A- in that area, this TV might be a C+/B- . Still very passable. The objects themselves though (i.e. the players in football, the cars in motorsports) look great to me. Crisp and clear.
This TV is also backlit, which to me is a big plus. I've had many issues with light bleed and clouding on much higher end edge lit TV's. With this unit, those black bars on top and bottom, for some programming and movies, are nice and black
Also, the grey uniformity should be terrible on this set when I've ran a few of my own tests. Somehow though, it's not. This TV somehow skirts this issue during regular viewing. The only time it may be noticeable is when viewing something like ice hockey. And even then, while it should be worse according to tests, it really isn't that bad at all.
Settings - Very easy to navigate. Quite comprehensive. Nice selection of pre-set options for picture (Including photograph. Nice touch). Also includes a one touch condensed menu for commonly used settings, which I love, and not every TV has.
Sound - Very good, rich sound. Being that TV's are made so thin nowadays, I've found much higher end sets with much worse sound.
Not impressed:
Upscaling - This, to me, is one of those sets that make lower quality content look a bit worse. This unit shines best with a 1080p or higher signal. To be fair though, I find most TV's don't deliver on this promise anyway, with maybe a Sony x800d (or higher) or Samsung 8 series (or higher) delivering a smoother channel surfing experience.
Up-close viewing - Up close I find the picture a little pixelated. However, if you normally watch TV from at least a few feet away, and without your nose to the screen, this shouldn't be a problem.
Inputs/Outputs - There is only one USB input. And although I'm not even using it, I'd still like one more. But really lacking to me is the absence of an analog audio output and Bluetooth. These things can be remedied with add-ons, but, right out of the box, I cannot use my wireless speakers, and may need to purchase a sound bar with a digital optical audio input. I'd also like the default input to be HDMI rather than cable/antenna, but cannot find the option to do so.
So, in conclusion, this is a great TV for the $399 sale price. For the regular price, or a bit higher, there may better options that can include 10 bit color (this unit is 8 bit), and a better selection of outputs. I still haven't been able to find if this unit is the RGB pixel structure or LG's RGBW, but as far as i can tell it should be RGB like it's UH5500 cousin.

So I have had this TV now for over a year and a half. The TV has done close to half a dozen software updates and I'm now running Android 8.0 on the TV.
Android 8.0 completely changed the home screen format with all the building apps and TV function layout making it more intuitive and faster to use.
The TV is an IPS panel so the side viewing angles are pretty good but the blacks or more gray and that is the biggest downfall of this TV.
But the HDR isn't very bright but it is a noticeable difference when watching 4K HDR content. The images are very clear with nearly no banding issues at all. Because the TV does not have Auto dimming zones the HDR content could be much better compared to the newest TVs the 2019. But any problems this TV had early on have been rectified now the software and Android system updates. I am pleased with the TV for the price I paid. I don't know if you can even find this television anymore.
back in December I purchased the newest version TV from Sony the 65in xbr65x900f tv.
There is a huge jump in picture quality between the 800d and the 900f.
Unless the 800d television is on a very good sale get the 900f. The 900f is leaps and bounds ahead of the 800d TV and worth price increase.
But again I am satisfied with my 49 inch 800d Sony television. At the time it was one of the better TVs available for the price especially in the 49 in size. Finding a 50"-49" 4K HDR TV back in 2017 was difficult and there weren't many choices like there are today.
The 65in 900f and the 49 in 800d are using Android 8.0 and it is great to see Sony still supporting the 800d TV sets with their latest system and Android updates. This Keeps 800d series TVs relevent today.
I have my 49 in Sony 800d TV set hooked up to an older Sony stereo shelf system and the sounds is very good. As always with these new thin TV sets you really need and should expect to have to get a sound system with the TV you can't rely on the built-in speakers but the 800d does give you the ability to add a Sony subwoofer directly to the TV set if you want to use the internal speakers and add a sub you can. but I choose a complete stereo shelf system out of the way and it sounds great.
Again I'm very happy with this 800d TV set for the price I paid at the time.
No problems that haven't been addressed with updates. TV looks good and is a pleasure to watch. Hopefully I get many years of viewing pleasure.

I needed a tv for the spare bedroom and I'm very happy with this purchase. I bought this tv for several reasons, 4K Ultra HD, HDR, Smart, Brand Name, Screen Size and Price. The initial setup programming is very simple and quick. I do wish the remote was back lit. The picture has been great and the Smart capabilities speed up switching inputs or channels. I feel the value for this tv is very high for a quality brand name and these features.

I have always been pleased with Sony. The color is realistic and as a smart tv, I've had no problem and can connect to the apps easily. Four HDMI is truly more than sufficient. While I was going to try to buy the Samsung 50" (Best Buy was out of stock), I settled for this but it worked out ok . The color may not have the vibrancy that Samsung appears to have, but I do like the true reality of the picture. Very thin, easy to set up.

I had been hoping my tv would die for a while. Fortunately it did right around Black Friday. The new set is incredible. All HD gets upconverted to 4K. Amazon and Netflix streams are breathtaking. The only thing I would change has to do with the refresh rate. It is only 60hz. I couldn't do anything about it since I wasn't even expecting my wife to go along with a bigger set so I didn't worry about it. I would have gotten a slightly larger set that had 120hz had my wife been ok with that in the bedroom and I felt that it wouldn't be a huge issue. It isn't really, but there is some motion blur in fast scenes. It is rated 240hz with software but it just doesn't quite get rid of it. Otherwise, with the apps in the smart tv and the amazing picture, I am very happy with the purchase. One other thing, I haven't used the speakers. My understanding from other reviews is that they are typical in that, they are not overly powerful. We have a speaker bar and wireless sub so we take the other speakers out of the equation.

Great 4K HDR TV with WCG for the price. Colors pop out due to the Triluminous display. Android TV is responsive but is slow to get you to where you wanna go.
Only drawback is that the 49 inch being IPS display (instead of VA), the contrast levels are subpar and blacks are not deep. This is distracting especially in dark scenes.
Great for the price. If u have more money , then go for sony xbr 850d or samsung ks8000

This is a easy to use smart tv. I like the quality and i love that i can get netflix and other streaming apps right on the TV. What i dont like about it is that sometimes it bugs out just like any other Android device. I've had to force stop Netflix a couple times because it froze. But besides that hiccup its a great tv. You get a beautiful picture on this set. Colors are vibrant, black is very black. One of the best features are the apps that come built in: Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Youtube and dozens more. They are all your fingertips from the supplied remote. Works perfectly with Direct TV, google chromecast and Microsoft Display Adapter. A great buy. 4K looks spectaculr.
