I LOVE this TV! Surprised at how much I like android and voice recognition. This is the best picture quality TV I have ever had. The 4K resolution is really amazing. Never seen a TV program so clearly on a TV screen and color is just great. Have not yet tried any true 4k content but I am satisfied with the quality already. I am happy for this purchase.

For this price range there are not a lot of options that can compare in quality. Most 4K HDR tv's are over $1000 and finding one in the sub $1000 range that offers good quality is tough. I looked over many TV's before eventually deciding on the 49inch X800D. You cant spend this low amount of money and expect the quality of a $1500+ TV.
4K content looks fantastic. 1080p content after upscale looks great. Video games on PS4 and Xbox One look great. All upscale images look better than I thought they would and since 4K content is still somewhat limited this is a great thing.
If you are on the market for a 4K HDR tv and your budget is below $1000 I definitely recommend this tv. There are only 4 complaints about this tv None of which are a big deal for me.
#1 I wish it was back lit or full array LED instead of edge lit.
#2 I wish it was native 120hz instead of 60hz However Ive noticed no blurring so far in gaming so it hasnt been a problem.
#3 Black color in a dark lit room looks kind of like a dark grey instead of black.
#4 The remote for this tv feels cheap and underwhelming I think Sony could have sprung for something better but it still works and is easy to use so its a minor issue.

I absolutely love this TV. Picture quality is great, but not top quality of course. I mainly use this to play my ps4 pro, which runs very smoothly and has spectacular graphics. I also like to stream shows to this tv, and I must say the built-in google cast is very unreliable. I purchased a chromecast to remedy this issue. This TV is also equipped with HDR, a fairly uncommon feature in less expensive TV's like this one. I thought that was nice. All in all, while this TV is no match for higher quality OLED displays and such, I think it is a superb television for the price and would definitely reccomend it. One last thing: the sound quality is bad, much like other TV's. you should definitely get a soundbar to go with it.

I bought this tv to replace my 11 year old 40" Sony Bravia which is now in my bedroom. I have had excellent service from that tv and still do. This new model is larger, better picture and connects directly to my wifi. The sound is the same as my older tv which was excellent.
I chose the sony over the samsung because the sony still includes a composite video connection. The samsung does not.
The tv was aesy to connect and set up. So far no problems and I really don't expect any. Hey, it's a Sony.

I was looking for a 4K TV with HDR but size limitation was a problem. My wife wanted a TV that would fit inside the entertainment center in the bedroom. Fortunately the Best Buy sales associate turned us to this Sony unit which had all the features we wanted and was exactly the right size. The price was competitive and we were able to take it home the same day. Great TV and buying experience!

I purchased this to replace my older Sony 1080. The crisp picture is beautiful and the ease to set up was accomplished with no problems. The only issue I have found is the speakers are a little weak. My living room is small so it is not a big issue. I also have Apple TV and I am able to get most everything I want. Plenty of HMDI hookups for games etc. if this tv lasts as long as the last one, I will be pleased. The old flatscreen is now located in my man cave and going strong!

This was an upgrade to our older Sony 40 inch. The quality of the view increased dramatically. Also it offered features being a smart tv that our other one didn't have, i.e. Bluetooth and wireless connection to internet. Only problem was that the standard plates to hook to our wall mount didnt exist so Mor-ride had to custom make one for us. (Our wall mount had to be a locking one as it is in a motorhome, so we had no other choices). All is mounted and working very well.

I moved to a new house that had a spot for a large TV. I thought I had a large one for my bedroom, but this one is fantastic for the living room. I watch football all the time and it is great!

Excellent color and contrast. Viewing off center is very good. Have not had any problem with motion if refresh rate of 60 hz. Is an issue. I do not see it as an issue. Highly recommend this TV.

Don't follow Rtings calibration settings for 49"

TV arrived double boxed in 3 days from placing order. No damage and UPS to thank. FedEx would have broke TV no doubt.
The TV is very, very nice looking with a thin bezel, metal stand and a really thin metal center section inside bezel border that adds some needed value to appearance.
No problems setting up, make sure to scan the Qr reader code on orange small label in box with a smartphone or tablet and get all setup info from the links provided by QR code.
Now, the Bluetooth setup that is the first thing it asks you to connect to, makes you actually, is not good. I had to power off TV 3 times during this to eventually skip and get TV actually working. I used manual WiFi setup as auto BT was not going well so I wasn't going to mess with another Auto configuration. My TV required no android or Sony update as last update was back in Nov 2016 and I received in February 2017 so latest firmware already installed.
Now, do not go by Rtings picture calibration settings for the 49X800D. Their settings are for the smaller 43" which has a different picture screen type. Your colors and brightness will be all out of whack.
I used color 44, brightness 10, contrast 85, everything else on auto, and in advanced color options I turned down the R,G,B gains until "I was happy" or you will have BLUE whites. I also turned down the black setting just 2 clicks for personal preference. Even motion enhancer(for upscaling) I put on auto, and I put rest on AUTO.
I'm still adjusting the R,G,B gains as this will net best skin tones and white WHITE backgrounds. (B= -5-8, R=-2-4, G=-2-3) after getting color turned down where reds are blurry. Use COLOR setting to get rid or reds that appear washed out so intense. Then use R,G,B to get skin tones where needed and white WHITES. Trust me.
Remember, Rtings setting are only for the 43" Sony 800D which is a VA screen. I have the 49" 800D and mine are for the 49" IPS screen sony tv. Completely different configurations needed. Play with settings until you are happy. This TV is not the brightest as mentioned. But, I have a 55" LED that is crazy bright and I like having a darker picture in the room I put this TV in which is similar to a basement. If you have a seriously BRIGHT room like a Living room then I would look at maybe a different TV so the brightness can match an open and bright room. But 49'''s is a weird size I think as I can't use a 55" or bigger in room I put my Sony anyways so I am happy. I am just now making very small minimal adjustments now every night I get home from work before I watch another TV to get the skin tones and whites where I want them. Maybe a few more days of tweaking. Glad this Sony gives you many adjustments to make in the advanced settings menu. Some TV's now lock them out and you need special menu codes to access. Not these Sony 800D tvs.
I'm happy with purchase.

I use this tv for gaming and occasional movies, the picture quality is amazing, I have my ps4 pro connected to it, went from a 1080p display to this tv and the difference is very visible, I was blown away with the picture. Games and movies look amazing, sound is good also however I don't really use much of the tv speakers since I have a sound bar connected to it. For the price this TV is a steal.

I am generally happy with this TV. Picture quality is good although there is not much 4K programming yet. My main complaint, and this seems to be true with Sony TVs in general, is that the sound is low. On our old TV we could listen at level 30 and it was loud. Now we have to listen at level 40 for comparable volume. And my experience is that the volume weakens as the TV ages. Other than that the TV is great. Easy to set up. Comes with Netflix installed.

I just can't get my hands off the machine.. The picture and colors they just amazing. Sound is devine. Ease of Android TV. Checks all boxes for me.. Really loving the experience. Need to check how well the games are rendered though. With my current experience I think it should be amazing. Very good TV overall.

All my wifi connection has been trouble free. A really nice looking tv astetically.
But, the overall picture is just too dark with no way to get bright enough in a well lit room. At night the picture is fine. Clarity is definitely better than any just 1080p TV. Sony's upscaling is tops. Some delay between when using remote and commands actually work. Sometimes 5 seconds go bye.
For the cost a dark picture and delays when using remote to access tv functions isn't acceptable.
Sony should have fixed these issues in a past update and haven't.

This size is perfect, do you watch tv from bed? Have an apartment? This TV gives you all the features of larger sets. It has hdr. High dynamic range, which helps with your contrast levels. You get a deeper richer image from all content. Android tv streaming and more. The set looks good and works well.
