A monitor on steroids

Image quality is great and really cuts down on the headaches I was getting looking at the small ones.. I know it's overkill but it will replace the TV in the upstairs bedroom if/when I ever return to my office. One oddity that I've noticed is that it will on occasion change over to the Google TV landing page and I'm not sure if my other remote is getting bumped for the other TV and causing it or something else.. Other than that, it's been a fantastic TV/Monitor.

Great Picture Horrific OS

Very happy with how it looks. What i really hate is the "smart" portion and you can't turn it off without unplugging it. Colors are nice, the blacks are very good i think for an LED, colors pop and the adjustment settings do a good job to customize without professional tuning. Sound, it's a tv, it's ok but it's nothing outside your average television experience, possibly a bit better. Upscaling isn't that great, trying to watch something that's 720 on a 4k tv is just a bad idea anyways. 1080p looks fine. As far as the OS goes it's sloppy, slow, and gets worse if you switch between streaming platforms without restarting the tv. The USB media feature shouldn't exist because there is constant desync especially if you are attempting 4k. As mentioned if the tv is plugged in it'll never turn off, just goes in a stand by mode. So if it's being sluggish cuz you switched from normal TV to Netflix you should restart it. There is also no space for Apps. They give you less than 5gb of space for apps, i have netflix/disney installed and it already takes up more than 2gb. They have an option for "expandable" storage however that doesn't work unless the app developer has programmed it to do that for some reason. I have found no apps that allow this so far. I think this is Sony's failure, how you can build an OS and not have the ability to read external drives is really stupid in today's age of computing. Overall great picture, i'm happy with it because that is what i bought it for. Otherwise it's a wretched and lazily built OS with poor specs if you want a smooth "Smart" experience. Put a better cpu/ram and for heaven's sake a decent amount of space, let's start with 32gb.

We'd like to help and make this a better experience. When you turn off the TV using the supplied remote, the default setting of the TV is to switch it to standby/networked standby mode. If you want to fully turn off the TV, you can press and hold the power button found on the lower front part of the TV.

I originally bought a Samsung thinking I could save some money. I was wrong, that Samsung was garbage and I bought this TV instead. I'm so happy I did. Excellent picture quality, sounds great. I love Google TV, it's fast and responsive. The contrast ratio is great for this type of TV, better than my much more expensive but older Sony TV in my living room. This is a winner for sure.

This tv was very easy to set up. I skipped the Google features. The picture is awesome straight out of the box, no tweaks needed. I hope it lasts as long as the last one! I also have a Samsung QLED and this Sony has a much nicer picture. Only Sony for me from now on! Received same day delivery to my doorstep. Best Buy always has what I want in stock and can deliver it in a timely manner.

You have to change the setting of each individual hdmi input to “enhanced”. It will not automatically detect that it is an hdmi 2.1 cable.

The sound is very clear, no static. The 50” size is not to small and not too big. It’s Perfect. I love that I can watch things through Prime TV, if I want to. I just learned how to do that. Maybe, I’ll learn how to watch things through Google too, one day. But, everything I watch, even TCM black and white, look beautiful. I am so pleased with my purchase. Sony TVs are always the best.
