    Much Better Than Expected

Much Better Than I Expected. I purchased the Sony CMT-SBT100 Wireless Home Audio Stereo Micro System to replace my aging AIWA CD Stereo system. The system is nearly flawless, and exceeds my expectations in every way. The unit is small enough to fit on a modern bookshelf or television stand, and the black case with chrome accents has a classic and timeless appeal. The remote control unit is small, black and easy to understand - batteries are included. My primary use for the system is to connect it to my television to create a simple home theater experience. To that end, my only surprise was that Sony utilizes a 3.5 mm stereo / auxiliary input jack at the back of the unit - there are no RCA input jacks. This issue was easily rectified by purchasing a "Y" adapter / 3.5 mm mini stereo (male) to dual white & red RCA (female). Once the cables were connected, I selected the "Audio In" function on the Sony for rich, full stereo sound from my television to the unit's speakers. My secondary use for the system is to listen to FM radio. The provided AM & FM antennas plug into a proprietary connector, and the FM receiver is strong, pulling in stations that I could not get with my older AIWA unit. Preset tuning as well as manual tuning functions were simple and intuitive. The Sony uses Radio Data Systems (RDS) to display the station call sign and the name of the current song in a single scrolling line on the face of the unit via a crisp blue LCD display. I was surprised that the speakers, which are not large, deliver dynamic, crisp range and great volume. The unit will play one single compact disc (CD) at a time - I don't much use this feature since the unit is connected to my television, which is networked with my computer. The unit utilizes a user-settable system clock along with a sleep and a timer function. You may program the stereo to switch itself on at a time of your choosing and play whichever function you select, CD, radio, etc. You may also set the sleep timer to turn off the unit after it has been playing for awhile. The unit will also automatically go into standby / off mode if left idle with no audio input for 15 minutes (not available in radio mode) - you may choose to disable this feature with the remote control if you so desire. The most surprising feature of the Sony is its Bluetooth connectivity. Once selected, the Bluetooth function will connect the stereo to any paired input device, or phone, in the area. Sony recommends using its NFC Easy Connect app for Bluetooth connection - you may have to adjust the settings on your phone to achieve a proper connection. Once connected, the sound is voluminous and static-free, with great range. The stereo's Bluetooth receiver will connect through walls, so long as the mobile / phone unit is not moving around too much. The Sony's single line, blue LCD display will shift from "Bluetooth" to "Device Name" once a connection is established. Volume may be controlled via the stereo and / or the mobile device. The Sony CMT-SBT100 Wireless Home Audio Stereo Micro System is definitely worth the price - I am very pleased with my purchase. - Chipper F. Xavier, Esq.

I bought this to replace an ancient CMT-EX5 that I've had, like, forever. While the EX5 is still working fine, I wanted something with a bit more power. My PC is my only source of entertainment and I run the audio to the stereo, with the speakers on my desk flanking the monitor and amp unit. As this is 'near-field' listening, a lot of volume isn't required and, while the EX5 was fine for music, I had to crank it up for streaming movies and DVDs/BRs. The extra 20W of the SBT100 #50W vs 30W# gives me equal volume at slightly lower volume settings. As for the SBT100, it's very handsomely styled in a nice, understated way. The sound is very crisp and clear with a rich, full presence, helped, no doubt, by the reflex ports on the speakers and which the EX5 lacked. While it lacks the EX5's Surround and DSG modes, it retains bass and treble controls, an absolute must for me. Additionally, this unit has features that I'm unlikely to ever use, like the NFC and Bluetooth streaming; any music on my BT device #phone# is on my PC. Same for playing files off a USB stick. The USB might see use for charging things, though. The speaker wires are reasonably long and, while they still plug into the amp with plastic connectors, the ends going to the speakers are standard bare wire going to spring clips on the speakers, so easy to extend the length if you need to. Far superior to the EX5 in that regard. Headphone jack is on the front, too - was on the back on the EX!. Has a power-saver feature to put unit on stand-by after 15 mins of inactivity #can be turned off# plus standard sleep timer function. The EX5 has a very nice, flat remote that uses watch batteries - I don't remember ever having changed them in 12 years. The SBT has a fat, if still fairly compact, 1/2 cylinder shape that uses AAs. - manual estimates 6 months replacement. One thing to be aware of - there's a fairly bright white LED on the center of the amp, just behind the bottom edge of the silver faceplate. It flashes when you use on the remote. There's a button on the remote marked with a light bulb that turns it on and off should you find it annoying. Overall, I'm quite pleased with this item. Whatever one's opinion of Sony as a company, I've always found the build quality of their equipment top-notch, even on the lower end stuff. .

For the $200 asking price, this music system is an absolute steal for the amount of content that you get. I'm a huge fan of Sony audio products, so I decided to replace my desktop speakers with this system. This system now serves as my 1)output for my computer/laptop, 2)CD player, 3) bluetooth music player, 4)desktop radio, and 5)headphone amplifier. NFC is a godsend for this device, as when I come back from work, I can just tap my phone with the NFC logo on this device and instantly play all of my music wirelessly. It also includes a remote control for added convenience. As for the sound quality, I could not ask for much more, as they are a vast improvement over my previous speakers. Great clarity and detail, and the system also has a built-in Bass Boost feature and equalizer for bass and treble to adjust to your liking. The system has an auto-standby mode, so it sleeps once you disconnect or put your input source to sleep. This also includes a headphone jack, which is handy so you don't have to keep switching plugs in and out of your computer. I use this as an amp for my Sony MDR-1A headphones and they sound much better coming through this system than from my laptop or phone. All I can say is buy this product right now, it has so many uses and makes your music shine for an excellent price!

I looked at many reviews on several different stereos. After coming across this one it seemed to have a good review and we were looking to switch from a bulking boxy stereo to something a little more slimmer and sleek looking. I love how this looks and the sound is great along with the bass. I like bass but not so much you cant hear the song. This stereo seems to have a great balance of bass. The only thing I wish it had was that you could attach more speakers to it. The slot is preset to have only the two speakers that come with it to plug in. I wanted to plug four speakers into it and it was not capable of doing that properly anyway. My husband end up jerry rigging it so that we could have four speakers hooked up to it. With the extra 2 speakers you can only put the volume up to about 20 till it will shut it off because it wasn't made to do that but it plenty loud even at that volume. With all 4 speakers I usually keep it around 12-14 and that's about what I normally keep it at so overall I am impressed with it.

I had an unusual need for this particular product: my 98 year old mother is mostly blind and partially deaf. A radio is her only form of entertainment. The sound quality and clarity are amazing. The graphic equalizer allows her to adjust tone levels to the middle range she needs for speaking voices and for music. She uses bluetooth headphones to block ambient room noises. The equalizer and the headphones are the perfect combination for her special hearing needs. The remote buttons are easy for her to find and use. We all enjoy this sound system when we visit her. I plan on buying one for myself in the near future.

My dad old stereo broke so he needed a new one. Looking for an easy to use, nice looking and good quality stereo this one shined. First of all have you seen the design on most new shelf stereo systems? With all those changing lights and mega speakers, it looks like college party, which is not bad but not right for a grown up living room. This unit is great for small living rooms. Has all the features you may need, CD, Bluetooth with NFC, USB for playing music and charging tablet or phone and Aux input that can be used to connect a turn table or other devices. Overal for the price and design is one of the shelf stereo systems in a box you can get.

Sony CMT-SBT100 stereo system has good sound from a compact sound system. It fits nicely on a table and the speakers have enough wire to get a nice separation for stereo recordings. I use it to play classical music most often, but I also play some blues, jazz and rock. For the latter, there is a bass boost button to get stronger low tones, but it won't shake the windows or hit you in the chest. It also has separate bass and treble controls to increase or reduce by +/-4. The tuner works well with the included antenna, and pulls in all the local stations. The cd player also works fine, and the headphone jack allows you to take your listening private. I haven't yet tried the Bluetooth or USB port functions. I am quite pleased with my purchase and my 12 year old grandson was impressed by sound.

If your an audiophile, this is not the system for you. This system is for people who want music in a room that is about 20x20 or less. The sound quality is very good FOR THE PRICE. We live in an area where radio reception is very poor. This system allows us to use the bluetooth on our phones and other devices to listen to our favorite app. It took me about 30 seconds to pair my wife's phone with the stereo. Yes, it's that easy. Now she can listen to her favorite station (It's on Iheart). Whatever app you use to listen to your music or sports on your phone will come through crystal clear on this system. Again, if you want perfect sound or booming bass, this is not the system for you. For the rest of use this is a perfect system for the price.

I was looking for a small but good sounding system for my living room as my audiophile system is in the rec room. Sony put together a small but powerful system. Frequency response is adequate but could use a better high end. There is a bass boost but dont expect the furniture to bounce. Overall a good sound but not great. Theres enough power to crank it up and easily fill the house with sound. The better aspects to this unit are the preset tuning, USB stick reading, input jack, phone jack and bluetooth capability. If you read the manual, everything is easy enough to set up. The antenna works for what it is. This would be perfect for dorm, small apartment or filling a need in a room. Its not earth shattering, it sounds good and across the board, adequate. I would suggest a better pair of speakers though.

Purchased this for myself and another for a gift because I loved it so much. So many smaller shelf stereos do not include a cd a lot which is ridiculous since computers are phasing CDs out too. Decided to go with this one because the sound was way better than the smaller Sony micro system with Bluetooth and cd slot (plus is cost less!). This system also picks up radio stations I didn't even know I could hear, I love it! Great size too. Note- Contrary to what a previous reviewer stated, this system definitely works with iPhones, including ios 7- I know because I'm using it right now & it sound is great! Such a great purchase, couldn't be happier!

The days of the bookshelf system have largely been replaced by bluetooth speakers connected to a phone. Bluetooth is convenient, but If you have a need to play CD's, a bluetooth only solution obviously wont work for you. Our Church Choir has a need to rehearse to various CD's, USB sticks with MP3's, and streaming content from phones, so the ability to bluetooth to this thing is great. It always amazes me the sound we can get from smaller packages these days and while this is not Bose levels of sound, it is powerfull enough for a group of people in a typical living room sized area to still hear while singing over it without getting all blown out and distorted like the little bluetooth speakers often do. Overall we are happy with this thing.

    Great Sounding Bookshelf Stereo Receiver

I use this Sony receiver in my home office to listen mainly to XM and the local NPR FM station. AM reception is good, too. Sound is excellent at all volume levels through the speakers that are shipped with the system. However, I already had a set of Bose bookshelf speakers, which I'm using instead. My only complaint is with the speaker wire length, which is short enough to really limit placement of the receiver with respect to the speakers. I fixed this by clipping the original wires fairly close to the proprietary connectors and soldering new wires of more reasonable length. Now I have the receiver tucked away and the speakers positioned on my work desk. I'm very happy with my purchase!

I purchased this for my kitchen/workroom. It has great sound and was easy to put together. The only problem I have is that the operating instructions are printed in a small font and awkwardly arranged. When I contacted Sony support, they guided me to the online version, which I had already found on my own. While I could make the online print larger, I could not print the instructions in a larger font. Unfortunately my computer and the stereo are in different rooms, They then sent me to a website that has a version of the instructions, for $5.95! Since I could not be sure this was printed in readable form, I am trying to make do with the printed one that came with the system and the online version, running from room to room.

After my receiver finally burned out, I was looking for a small stereo setup just to play MP3, CD, and the radio so I decided to go to a shelf unit. This Sony system is compact and powerful enough for my needs. I am going to buy additional speaker wire because the wire included is not long enough to move the speakers very far from the unit. It is Bluetooth enabled, but I haven't been able to pair it with my Skullcandy wireless headphones yet; may need Geek Squad help unless I am just not reading the instructions right. Also, I haven't tried playing MP3s on a thumb drive yet. All in all, this is a great little unit for my needs, powerful speakers that sound great even when cranked up to the max.

A great stereo system at a great price. It has a retro look but has modern amenities. It's small in size too which is great plus it's lightweight. AM/FM receiver, CD player, auxiliary jack, bluetooth compatible, and USB port. I can hook up my iPod via the USB port and auxiliary jack and listen to my music via this system (although it requires an audio cord - not included). The system may be small but it kicks out volume! AM/FM reception is great (I read some reviews that said it wasn't so good) with included antenna. Unfortunately there isn't a port for a turntable. I've had it about a month now and I love it.

This small unit has a very clean sound and plenty of power for a smaller room. For those who like a lot of bass, there's plenty with the bass boost function. I run my tv through the aux input and am pleasantly surprised at the quality. The radio, bluetooth and cd all function just as well. I can't comment on the usb input as I haven't had a need to use it. The only small drawback is the lack of an equalizer. although you still have some bass and treble control. For the price it's definitely an above average performer. I listen to many styles of music and I'd highly recommend it to anyone.

This was easy to set up. The sound quality is perfect for our use. I enjoy having the remote, especially when I want to adjust the volume. The bluetooth has been a bit tricky - must turn it on in the right sequence: first turn on bluetooth & "discoverable" on mp3 player/tablet, then turn on bluetooth on the music system. if I turn the bluetooth on the micro music system first, then the connection is poor and the music "skips" a lot. However, if done in the correct sequence described, the bluetooth works great with nice sound from the music system.

I have never had a bad Sony product and again this shelf system is great! Solid built in all ways and compared to many of the shelf systems out there - very well made. Not only is it solid and quality - it sounds great. The speaker system is only small in physical size - in sound it is huge It only has one CD but plays MP3's and can play a thumb drive - so you really don't need more than one tray.. If you need a small compact system with big sound - I think you will love this Sony as much as my wife and I do.
