This is a great starting lens for your Sony Mirrorless camera. I use it with the a6000 and it works great. The Optical Image Stabilization really smooths out long range photos when you are holding the camera in your hands. It's about a 75-300mm equivalent lens since this is not a full frame sensor in the A6000. I've even used it with the clear zoom to double the range. It worked great at concerts where I can get in close to the singer. The lens comes with a hood if you are using it in the bright sun. It's not a very fast lens, but then again it's only about $300. You will be spending a lot more if you want something with a larger aperture. I have this, the 16-50mm kit lens and picked up a 35mm f/1.8 lens for low light photos without a flash.

For an amateur photographer who likes the thrill of catching a bird in flight or a relatively crisp faraway shot of Mickey Mouse at Disney World, this is a fine lens. Instagram crowd: great lens. Professionals? Less likely to be looking at this. Most of the telephoto zooms considered “decent” to “really good” have much faster apertures at similar focal lengths, so they can pull off some great compression shots at long ranges that this will not be able to make, as well as take less noisy nighttime photos (this thing basically shuts down when the sun does). They also have noticeably cleaner bokeh - photos from this one even at f4.5 have background blurs that are only creamy if you squint. If these things were measured on performance alone this lens probably doesn’t belong in the competition. However, the very real tradeoff is that those lenses often cost 3x-4x as much as this one, and around 4-5 times as much if purchased used. Additionally, third party lenses that cover this range are not only more expensive, but they also lack in-lens optical image stabilization, meaning that unless you own the a6600, the highest end APSC offering from Sony, there’s a good chance your photos might end up pretty shaky/blurry. So considering that, it’s really important to ask yourself who you’re taking these photos for and what you want your telephotos to look like. If all your photos are going to end up on Instagram (like mine do), where they’ll be hilariously compressed and the details don’t matter much to someone viewing it on a 6” display, this is a great purchase. Composing shots well will take good advantage of the additional range and good composition in any circumstance will take you far. But if you’re going to print these out in large format, or if you still want a pretty creamy background blur in your telephoto shots, maybe consider renting it for a day from a camera store, as you may find that your photos may suffer from noise even in daylight due to the slow aperture. Otherwise, if you know what you’re getting into (and what you’re saving in the process), then go for it.

Good lens for Beginners. This came as bundle with my A6000 and I am glade they included it. It does a decent job with bird photograph. Since it's F4.5 don't expect too much with night photography. Overall I am happy with this lens.

I have been looking for a new lens for my sony nex5 for a few years. After reading many reviews I opted to give this one a try. So far I'm loving it. It's not heavy and takes great pictures.

This camera lens is simple and easy to use. It allows me to capture a wider scope of whatever picture I’m taking.

I wasn't planning to like it as much as I do. I love my nex3, but with this lense it gets me closer to things I want to photograph or video record. Its a must buy to really get the shots you want. You will need to keep the smaller lense with you most of the time also. You will find at times that you have to walk far away to get the shot you want with this lense.

I didn't believe it until I had a few photos developed. They were crystal clear with no noise. I was at max zoom.

This lens is an excellent addition to have in my camera bag. As a hobbyist photographer, I used this lens for outdoor shots and did some shots for a friend's graduation photos that turned out excellent!

This product is great! If youre into long range photography save for the bigger lense but this is a must have!

excellent lens for any amateur photographer, but i will say it’s not the best if you plan on doing something like sports photography at night.

I bought the a6000 to compare with both the Nikon D3400 and the Canon SL2. I was only slightly impressed with the 16-50 kit lens so I added this lens to compare with the Nikon 70-300 and the Canon 75-300 zoom lenses. And, although it’s only 210, it compares quite favorably with the other 2 lenses at the same focal length. I’ve taken many “keeper” pictures and expect to continue to get many more.

A great zoom lens at a great price. Very reasonable price to extend the reach of your lens set beyond the kit lens.

This lens is one of the greatest out there! The zoom is amazing! Photos also still maintain its clearness!

Have wanted this lens for my Sony nex for a long time. Finally broke down and bought a new camera and Best Buy had a deal where i got $100 of the lens if i bought it at the same time so went ahead and took the plunge. Haven't had a lot of opportunity to use it much but with what i have used it for im very satisfied. Will add to my review once i get to take it out for a longer test drive!
