Bought this TV while in the store looking at Tvs. The TV is a nice TV but the picture is dark, not as bright as Samsung. The TV is great in regards to color representation. It definitly shows very accurate colors. Nice design, terrible remote. The buttons are to small, close together. I have not been able to find a keyboard or mini keyboard to type text into search fields in Netflix,Amazon. Anyone will be happy with this Tv,if you are previous owner of Samsung Tvs,you may not be at 100% and to be honest, leave the settings at factory as I have calibrated with Disney's WOW and power flickered and settings defaulted back. To be honest....it looks fantastic now at factory preset.

This TV is obviously the newest tech that I have bought, but I made sure I got HDR and I am so glad I got this TV!!! Out of the box it was amazing looking and it is thrilling to watch any source or programming. I could not wait till my cable was setup and when it was, it has been non stop entertainment with this TV. The HDR is amazing and 4k upscaling is so fantastic. I owned a 2nd gen 4k flagship from sony that cost 5x the amount of this tv and this one, of course because of new tech, is way better! If you desire theater sound, buy a theater, you wont get theater quality unless you pay for it, but if you buy this tv, you will get a good sounding tv, with amazing picture. If you want higher rez than UHD 4k , then expect to pay thousands more. But this TV is amazing!!!!!! The rez is the best I owned, the price point is medium, but anything higher rez by sony or any company will cost you at lest 1k more. But, owning it now for several months, this TV is a homerun, especially fi you do not want to spend more than 1k! the network, the apps, the upscaling and video is top notch, unless you want to pay the OLED price. No one competes at this price point, Sony only has a better TV that is at $2500, with the higher chips. Otherwise, you wont get better than this TV.

I spent so much time reading online reviews and even researching through rtings. My plan was to use this tv for the new playstation pro. The tv is great its crystal clear when displaying 4k content. But remember there is very little available in 4k besides playstation and few movies. With all that being said the TV does a great job upscalling 1080p content. The TV does has some cons such as not being able to get as bright as Samsung TV's and the blacks aren't the deepest but it really doesn't matter in the long run when playing and watching movies, it works great and you barely even notice the cons. Also realize that this is about a 300-400 dollar difference so yes Samsung probably is going to be better but your going to pay a lot more for it. I replaced a old vizio tv and i am very satisfied with this new one, everyone is going to always find negative but look at the tv in store yourself its a great tv. Added bonus it works great with Playstation being able to click one button to turn on ps4 as well as using the remote to control the ps4 its awesome. Always love sony so i am satisfied like usual, now i just hope this TV lasts for years to come!

    Great TV For the Price

I did a LOT of research when deciding to upgrade to a 4K TV. This Sony model came in with some good reviews (even on the http://www.rtings.com website). We owne(ed) many Sony TVs including a home theater projector and have always been happy with Sony. In my opinion this TV competes well with the others in this price range ($900 to $1200). Like ANY new TV you get, the picture quality rests mostly on the picture settings you chose. While the default presets are a good start, I always find one that is OK and then set the custom preset to those settings then tweak a bit for my liking. So far I have had no issues with edge bleed from the backlight like some people state. The black setting can be adjusted and is good. Not in comparison to a more expensive OLED TV, but acceptable and dark enough. Color is bright and vibrant like a Sony TV should be. The main thing I used as the gauge for buying this over a Samsung was the Sony 4K upscaling technology. While it cannot perfectly scale up a poor or lower resolution video signal to crystal sharp 4K (no TV can) the general upscaling seems very good to me. Sound is OK but like other flat screens it is best to get a good soundbar or use an auxiliary sound system for deep, crisp audio. Has a lot of built in apps which is good if you have a fast Internet connection to use them effectively. One nice feature is the screen cast option. I have an Android phone so with the Google Home app I can easily share my phone photos and videos on the TV. On a lesser note, the nice thing about this design is the centered TV stand *if* you intend on placing the TV on a stand or cabinet. Be careful with other brands, especially Samsung. They tend to have TV stands near the ends of the screen which can be a problem if your cabinet is not very wide like ours. I was lucky and found out this TV was going to go on sale at Best Buy for $100 cheaper for Black Friday this year so I bought it a week earlier and came back to get my sale price match...after the madhouse crowds left!

I have now had my Sony 55X850D television for about 3 months. The TV itself is very attractive and sleek in design. Picture is awesome. Ample number and assortment of connections for me. Decent built-in apps. Easy to assemble. Fair price. Wireless seems to work well. The interface is awkward and somewhat randomly laid out. You just have to dig around to find what you want. The biggest dislike is there was no detailed manual for the TV or the Remote Control so you are kind of on your own to figure things out. When I looked on the Internet for some kind of manual the web site would never load. I did find one on another site but you had to purchase the manuals. No real problems have come up so far. Overall, I am happy with my purchase.

I bought this TV to replace my 10 year old plasma TV. I am amazed at the improvement in quality and functionality of having a smart TV. The unit is located near a wall of windows and there are no issues with glare. The setup was very simple.

Bought a Samsung 4k first time around. The glare made TV unusable during daylight hours and it looked like bad 3D. Returned to Best Buy without problem. Staff then recommended the Sony (actually they recommended the Sony higher the 1st time but I wanted the Samsung). NO GLARE, and the picture is fantastic. With almost no adjustment the picture and color is perfect even on cable. On You Tube 4k video, I just can't describe how breathtaking the picture is. Easy to set up, but sound is so so. I Paired it with a Bose sound bar and it truly makes a mini home theater.

I read many reviews on professional review sites, talked with several different Best Buy associates, and watched all the You Tube reviews about the XBR-55X850D, and it came down this Sony TV convincing me that my first choice of a similar Samsung model was not the overall best choice. So do your research and then I believe you will choose the Sony 850D. I found that the Sony has a more realistic picture, better overall viewing quality and wider viewing angles than the Samsung, and, since I am an Android fan, an Android operating system which slightly beat out the Samsung operating system. As for price I believe there is value for price. Aesthetically, the TV stand, since I was not wall-mounting it, is located in the center, is made of sturdy plastic, has cord control, and allows the TV to stand as slim and as eye catching as this TV is. The picture is excellent, sometimes breath taking. I have found no real issues with the depth of blacks as some have reported, and with personal color adjustment I was not disappointed, nor will you I believe with the color depth and the real life tones. I have only one small disappointment and that is with the remote. My wish is that the buttons were a bit more raise up so that I could feel the keys without looking at the remote. The voice control of this remote is excellent and a nice addition as it the dedicated Netflix and Google Play tabs on the remote. I often use this TV as a monitor and I am pleased with the interface. Gaming is stellar on this set. Sadly, and inexplicitly, there is no Bluetooth built into this set, but I added a Bluetooth adapter and my wireless headphones work perfectly. As with all flat panel TV's sound is adequate so a sound bar is a welcomed addition. I use a Sony blue ray player and the 4K visuals on this TV are stunning both for DVD playback and while watching Netflix HD choices. As a regular TV user I am pleased with my purchase and with Best Buy who as usual gave me the information, confidence, and the price that made buying this Sony a pleasure. You will not be disappointed if you choose this 2016 model.

Its been 5 years since I last bought a TV which is also a Sony Bravia 1080p 46" with 120 Hz. I am not disappointed. The picture color and quality is great. The colors are bright, rich, and deep right out of the box. Netflix, Hulu, live tv, blu ray, and regular DVD's all are very clear and brilliant. It also has 120 Hz screen refresh rate so motions look good. The screen is not shiny so the reflection from windows is minimized. The TV is light weight and thin but it is pretty big so it should be moved by 2 people. Compared to my old 46 inch Sony this TV is not that much taller or wider since the screen goes right to the edge of the TV. There are a good number of HDMI inputs so if you don't have a tuner that combines all your inputs then you have capability to have everything connected. Setups was pretty easy and the TV connected to my network quickly. It also found all of the local broadcast channels very fast. The only downside is the remote, or how the TV responds to the remote. The TV doesn't turn on with the first push of the power even though nothing is blocking the TV, maybe this is a design feature but it is annoying. When trying to go through the menus the same thing happens, very slow response. My older Sony Bravia HD TV reacts very quickly and is much easier to navigate through the menus. The android remote I downloaded for my smartphone is also pretty useless since I do not use Netflix and Hulu from the TV, I use a Roku instead. I was hoping the android remote would be like what I have for my Roku, a fully functioning smartphone remote that searches and also controls inputs and volume on the TV. The android remote is really only used for searching for content and games, something I don't use the TV for at this time. The TV is awesome and I highly recommend it.

This review is after about a month of ownership. It replaced an 8-year old 1080 Sony. Our use is about 40% sports, 40% TV and 20% movies. It sits in our very well lit family room with several windows. Setup was straight forward and I have been pretty happy with the default settings, but I'm sure the image could be improved a bit more with some tweaking. Colors are outstanding and the sharpness is amazing, afterall it is 4K. Up scaling works really well to improve 1080 sources. At purchase I was a bit torn between this Sony and the Samsung 8000 series. Ultimately we felt the colors and tones on the Sony we a little more pleasing. I have no regrets with this decision. We have played around with some of the apps and there are plenty and straight forward to navigate. We are using a wired GB connection, but just to test it, it did connect to our wireless network without any problem. We primarily use Netflix and Amazon. Beyond the initial setup we use our Harmony Ultimate in lieu of the Sony remote, not that the Sony remote is bad, it just isn't a Harmony. Sound is good, definitely an improvement over the old Sony. Most TV watching we just just use the built in speakers in lieu of our receiver. If you are looking for an upper mid-grade 4K (non-OLED) display, I don't think you can wrong with this one.

I haven't had a new TV in years. I've been hanging in there with my 32" Sony Bravia TV that I got as a gift a long time ago. I decided it was time for a larger, 50"+ 4K HDR TV. I'm a techie and currently play computer games and wanted to get back in to console gaming. I am a critic when it comes to visual performance and technology. I bought a 55" 4K HDR Samsung TV this past Black Friday and quickly saw how unnatural it looked. The colors were over saturated, there was bad motion blur, and I did some research and found out it was an 8-bit HDR TV. I returned it, did more research, and ran into a guy that works at Best Buy and began talking to him. Initially I'm apprehensive about talking to Best Buy tech employees because I always know more than them. I build my own computers, install my own car audio and head units, etc. However, this guy was a God send. Some of the things that led me to this Sony X850D was it has a native 120hz panel, true 10-bit HDR (8-bit HDR is outdated, the standard is 10-bit, the PS4 Pro and Xbox One S output 10-bit), amazing colors, and a trustworthy and quality brand. The Best Buy worker actually said this was the TV he uses to game on but he's sad that he purchased it when it first came out for over a $1,000. Once I got the TV home and set it up the different was night and day. I was quickly reminded exactly why I've chosen to stick with Sony over the years. The colors all look natural and thanks to the image processor and panel, they pop but not in an unnatural over the top, Samsung, way. Playing games and watching action movies showed the 120hz panel was able to keep up with constantly and quick changes without any delay. This TV's quality and color is absolutely beautiful. I loaded a 4K HDR video from YouTube and was amazed at how much of a difference in colors there is between the 10-bit panel and 8-bit panel. This is also a smart TV but the first TV I've encountered that was Android. This means you can access the Google Play store and download Android apps to your television. The upscaling this TV does is absolutely amazing. Comcast only offers 1080p and the level of detail this upscaler adds truly makes 1080p look like 4K quality. All in all, you get what you pay for. The price is completely justifiable given the pure quality of this television and what you're getting. This is as good as it gets for LED 4K HDR televisions under $1,000. The only thing better requires a $1,000 price jump to purchase the X930D LED 4K HDR TV that has local dimming (expensive tech). The only thing local dimming does is it's able to turn off single LEDs to make the black color as black as if you had the TV off. With that being said, the blacks on this X850D are outstanding. If you make that jump to the X930D, the only place to go next is OLED TVs that are in the $2,000 range. I'm not sure about you but I'm on a budget and this is hands down the best bang for your buck television you'll find for under $1,000. Side Note: It's VERY important that you use the proper HDMI cable when assessing and viewing 4K HDR content. Not all HDMI cables are created equal. The one that comes with your cable box is absolute trash. HDMI cables have bandwidth restrictions and 4K increases the bandwidth requirement then adding HDR increases it again. For true 4K HDR viewing you'll need an 18 GBPS HDMI cable. Best Buy sells them for $19.99. Once I learned about this, I was skeptical, but I bought one and replaced the HDMI cable that my Comcast box came with and it was an immediate night and day difference.

O okay so I wanted to wait a while before I did this review had it for 3 weeks so I wanted to clarify the goods and the bads and debug some reviews.1 people were complaining about light bleed certain modes except for normal and procinema. 2 the remote the buttons are a little small at one point none of the buttons work I thought it was a TV I went to the Sony site found out it was the Batteries so when you get this TV get new batteries i have no problems now .3 black levels are good but not great. Now let me mention this i own a plasma and every plasma owner out there knows going from that to an LED TV is hard . So I wanted something that would match the Plasma my choices lg7700 samsung 8000 vizio pro and this i picked this because the color on this is better than all of those its better than my plasma. 2 i picked this tv for the motion flow better than samsung better than lg better than vizio .not to say that they are bad cause they are all good tvs but wanted something in particular and man i picked right this tv is amazing the interfaces is fast you dont even need to calibrate it a couple of tweaks and your fine oh and sony smart move putting physical buttons on the back for menu. oh by the way they dont tell you this but if you get a 4k tv none hd channels look terrible so all in all I'm very happy yall better play attention sony i think the are going to be the new leader in tvs

So the bad first. Doesn't have the blackest of blacks in a dim to all lights out, room light condition. But if you have a less then dim room, like a lamp or two on. This might be the TV for you. So the good next. The colors on HDR signals like 4k Blu-ray and streaming from Amazon and Netflix, are awesome. I watched the Namibian desert scenes from Amazon's Grand Tour car show where they are driving around in colorful beach buggies. Jimmy Crickets, those colors fly off the TV like you are really there. So much better then our Samsung TV that we have in our bedroom, that I wished all content was HDR/wide color gamut. You have to see it in your home to believe it, it's that good. The confusing part. I got all the settings I needed from AVSforum.com and read all about the TV I could. But one thing eluded me, the remote control has a built in microphone and I couldn't figure how to get it to work. Well you have to activate it in settings. The bonus feature. It's a Android TV, meaning it's OS is based around the Android TV operating system. Great setup, maybe slightly more complicated then a LG or Samsung, but really it's just so much more advanced it's not funny. Last, get this TV!!! Or the 65 inch version if you can afford it!

Crystal clear can't describe the display. 4k images are amazing! Motion lag is non existent with deep black and vibrant color out of the box. After you adjust the settings, the picture is near perfect. Menu selections lag slightly but it is the thinnest on the market. A responsive Google voice search and a surprisingly loud speaker after it is tweaked in settings. Other than the slight delay in the menu areas, it's top notch! A+!!!
