Beautiful
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a beautiful TV. The upscaling is great and the color and contrast is wonderful. The in store display did not do it justice. I did have one problem with it, once when I turned it on to play video games the screen went all black but I could still go into the settings menu on the tv so I thought it was my gaming system after some troubleshooting with no results I unplugged and plugged the tv in and it fixed the problem. Either way I recommend getting Geek Squad Protection on this TV because it changes so many hands and travels many miles before it gets to your home that anything could happen to it. Just for the peace of mind it's worth it

Best TV I've owned
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first 4K TV, I haven't bought a TV in years. The color is spectacular, there is no edge whiteout on my TV that I can tell. The speakers are quite good for a flat screen. However adding a sound bar brings the experience to a new level and I would recommend it. I have it hooked up to a Sonos soundbar. I did not really do a true comparison of the pictures of all the 4K TV's before I bought. Looking at simulated pics in the store is pretty worthless. At home, you picture is only as good as your signal, so be sure that you have a good signal. I have a wireless cable box and thus, signal is sometimes iffy. Finally, I've had to unplug the TV 3 times in the last 3 weeks as it was not connecting to the internet-sorta like the restart button. So I am a bit wary, but I've been overall satisfied with the TV

Great TV, but complicated
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My family usually only buys Samsung brand TVs, however, we decided to go with this Sony because of the higher frame rate for the great price. While the picture quality lives up to what it claims, in order to achieve the proper settings, there is a lot of changes that we had to make in the settings. Luckily for us, my husband is a photographer and a computer wiz, so he is able to go through and know what he's looking to change to get the right picture. However, for someone like me or other people without backgrounds or knowledge in photography, it's very challenging to know what to change. Also, our previous Samsung TVs never gave us any issues with connected our gaming devices and being about to use one remote to control everything. This TV, however, did give us trouble. It sucks having to use multiple remotes or controllers, when in the past we only needed the one. But overall, once the settings are set the way we like them and all the remotes are gathered in one place, it's an awesome TV.

Amazing
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Keep in mind that I've never had a flat screen HD TV before. This replaced our old tube TV that died. I have to say that the picture quality is simply amazing for Blue Rays, DVD, and most streeming things from Netflix. Some older, made for TV, content is a bit grainy at times though. As an example, Star Trek. I don't care much for the remote. The buttons are too small and don't stick up enough to find them easily. I read as much as I could before purchasing. I see no graying or shadows on this set in a dark room. The colors are lifelike rather than too blue like some other brands. In closing, the Best Buy sales rep I worked with in Boise, Tony, was tops. He really spent time with me over two days making this selection. He went above and beyond.

Excellent Picture
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this after reviewing from expert sites and I was split between this and a Samsung. I went with the Sony set due to it being a new set for 2016 which Samsung had none out as of yet when I bought it and Sony is tops in upscaling video compared to Samsung. I have to say the picture quality is WOW. I go more for picture quality as number one and the smartTV portion as second.

Wonderful!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I debated between the Sony 850 and the 930. Well I bought the Sony X850 and I love it! The color is so beautiful right out of the box. Standard color. I tried vivid it was so much more, but I love the standard; the picture is gorgeous. It's big and beautiful and my sister is now going to buy herself one. The sound is excellent for flatscreen TV without surroundsound speakers. But they will come next. This is a wonderful television; go for it. Buy yourself a Sony 850. Oh another wonderful thing, I looked on the paper I saw my television was $200 off on sale. I called Best Buy and they credited my account right away with the $200. You can't lose with Best Buy and you can't lose with this beautiful Sony television.

Great smart TV
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great TV and works well in my small condo living room. The sales rep was thorough and it was delivered timely. The geek squad installed and gave good operating instructions. I like how thin the screen is and the picture detail is fantastic. I'm still learning all the "smart" aspects of the TV.

Disappointing. Lackluster blacks and viewing angle
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really liked the design, materials, thinness and screen (in the store). At home and in a darker room however the cost of the thinness is revealed. The back light and overall blacks are just not up to par. I have a 2 year old bravia that was a fine tv and had next to no light leaks but wanted better refresh rate and motion. While the TV does look great in at least semi lit rooms, it fails in darker spaces. The android interface is a lot of fun and worked very well...accept for no reason it would freeze completely for 5-10 seconds and I would just have to sit and wait while noting happened. couldn't move the cursor and couldn't click on anything. This is while standing right in front of the IR receiver so it wasn't blocked communication or anything like that. I think as a just very casual use TV it will do the job. I opted to take the leap with OLED and couldn't be happier. All of my light leak gripes for years and blotchy greys have disappeared. It is more expensive by about 2x but it was worth every penny for those of us that like to watch movies in the dark and get fully immersed in what you are watching in any lighting condition.

Fantastic Picture Quality!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My only qualms with this TV is the software. Android TV can be really buggy or slow. I have to reboot the TV every once in a while. The picture is awesome though. The way it up scales my 1080P videos is amazing! The movies just pop out of the screen.

Excellent picture for all media
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Chose this over similar priced Samsung and lg. So far a great choice. Incredible picture for the few 4K programs I could find and it also does a great job with 1080. The 240hz motion rate is awesome. I purchased a larger Samsung 4K a year ago for the family room. This Sony went in the bedroom.. but now I'm choosing to watch sports on the smaller screen because with the Sony there is NO image blur or pixelation that my Samsung falls prey to. The remote with voice is not of much value. It certainly is no Alexa! The menu system is excellent as well as the wifi streaming capability. All very simple to use. overall great product and the Best Buy cyber Monday sale price was killer.

Awesome !
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love my new XBR55X850D! With so many models, features and wide price differences on today's flat screen TVs, it was a tough choice. Did a lot of homework. Looked at objective testing data, published reviews and many, many owner's comments. I found that this TV scored very favorably overall. When the price dropped below a grand before Thanksgiving, I bought it on Amazon with the TV sold by World Wide Stereo. Shipping was quick and I was able to pick the day and 3 hour delivery window. It arrived on time. The two delivery guys were great and set it up quickly to my complete satisfaction. I'm no videofile and have just recently updated my education about things like judder, UHD, 4K, upscaling, various frame-rates, etc. I have a basic understanding now, but am no expert. That said, to my eyes, this TV looks stunning, whether I am watching DirecTV, streaming content from Netflix, Amazon, etc, or watching DVDs and Blu Ray discs. There is a vast array of adjustments that can be made. I have done some fiddling and found my favorites. More times than not, when Auto is offered as a choice, it is a good choice. That makes it easy for a novice-intermediate user to get it dialed in and looking good pretty fast. It is probably possible to improve the picture a bit with a calibration disc (Like Disney's WOW-Wonderful world of Blu Ray), but I don't feel the need just now. Maybe in time I'll feel I can squeeze a bit more out of it, but for now, it takes my breath away. Perhaps more discriminating viewers would feel the need to dial it in as close as possible to perfection, but I'm just blown away with it, as is. Beyond the great picture and features, I was extremely impressed with how fast and how well the streaming apps worked. I have an AppleTV and a Sony Blu Ray player which both have Netflix. The Blu Ray also has Amazon. The 850D has these apps (and many others) but the TV loads and plays streaming content much faster and more reliably than my other devices. I have yet to see a stream stutter or pause to buffer on the XBR. Those were frequent annoyances with the AppleTV and Blu Ray player. They are all connected via ethernet cables to the same home network (Comcast 32 down/6 up), but the streaming performance of the TV shames the peripherals. I don't know why, but I am thrilled. Just for fun, I tried streaming content via WiFi and the TV never dropped a frame. The external boxes were barely able to stream anything worthwhile via WiFi. Don't know how Sony does it, but the apps on the smart TV are a quantum leap forward compared to anything else I've tried. I am a delighted new owner. The XBR850D surpassed my expectations in all categories. As far as I'm concerned, it's a great TV at a reasonable price. It ain't cheap, but well worth the $898 I spent on it. One more thing. There is scant information on the internet or in the included documentation about wall-mounting this TV with anything other than the Sony companion wall mount (not included) or similar mounts. I already had a nice wall-mount with articulating arms and it worked great. The 850D has holes to accommodate standard 200mm Vesa mounts. That made hanging this mere 35lb TV on the wall a breeze and I can pull it out for easy access to the connections on the back panel. Don't expect to be moving it much, but it sure was convenient as I was pulling cables to the TV to hook it into my system. It will also make it easy to dust periodically which is always a good thing to do with electronics you care about

Great TV

Awesome quality at a great price!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The x850d is a great 4k UHD HDR TV with several simple to use features. HDR is still in its infancy has far as consumer electronics are concerned but this TV gets you up to speed although it's capabilities for hdr are a bit lacking due to being an edge lit display it still produces a brilliant picture in whatever mode you use. Check out consumer reports website for the best settings and you won't be let down. I personally use this display in conjunction with my desktop PC for playing games in 4k at 60hz or 1080p at up to 120hz natively. Now for the biggest let down of the TV is it's remote. It uses mechanical switches that are very loud and can be annoying if you are using it a lot but since it has Bluetooth capability you can easily connect a Sony PS4 controller to it and use that as a remote for the menu's.

4K HDR at its finest
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this TV to get ready for the new XBOX ONE S and Gears of War 4 with HDR gaming and so far this thing is absolutely amazing. Streaming Netflix 4K UHD is unlike anything I've ever seen before in my life. NFL action has never looked better and when the football is in the air you don't see any trails or ghosting. All colors pop and I can't say enough good things about this set. Hats off to Sony for changing the game with this one.

Couldn't be Happier
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Researched for weeks, settled on the Sony vs competitors as to me, it was the most realistic picture out there. Other brand options just had a 'fake' look to them. I coudn't be happier with my decision - I've had the Sony 850D for several weeks and absolutely love it! Menu easy to learn, setup quick and easy, lots of picture options.

Great overall tv
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The picture quality is excellent, features are great. Easy to use. One negative is the design of the stand. You can't put a sound bar at the bottom, if you do the remote will not work because the remote sensor is located there.

TV has a very clear picture with no problems.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have only had the TV for about a month, It has not given any problems and has a very clear and crisp picture. The sharpness of the TV picture surpasses the cable capacity of our provider, but the TV up scales the signal well to 4K. The cable will be upgraded in the near future.
