My husband reviewed the TVs built by Samsung and Sony that we were interested in considering. We went to the nearest Best Buy and found a salesman who knew the differences between them. He helped us experience both. We decided upon the Sony XBR55X850D 55" Class Android because of the high quality of its picture and ease in traveling through the commands. We also purchased the accompanying sound bar and woofer for more sound in the open room in which we would be viewing it. The installation was on time, efficient and we have enjoyed the extraordinary picture, sound and feeling like we are "there" since then.

I am very pleased with the overall build and picture quality of this set. I did not really want a 4k set as I was concerned what normal 1080 HD broadcast would look like. I was surprised to see that the upscaling truly does look remarkable, even with streamed YouTube content. Great for viewing personal photo albums! TV aficionados may be right about the contrast and black levels but I cannot tell that it is lacking. Most of my TV watching is in a dimly lit room. I am not rally impressed so far with the Smart AndroidTV features. Response is quick but the UI seems clumsy and limited. Only a small selection of Google apps supported. Took off 1 star for the Android TV. Plenty of HDMI and USB ports. No opinion on the sound as this is part of a Home theatre.

The overall of the quality of the television is fantastic. The slim line of detail in the capacity that it delivers is amazing! The colors are much brighter and sharp.

Very nice television for the price. The color is amazing. The little 4K content I've been able to watch has been outstanding. I was torn between this TV and the LG 7700. The sales person talked me in to this set at a slightly higher price. I wish I could have seen the same content on both TVs, but apparently they were hooked up to different feeds. Still not sure if I chose the better TV. The black levels are a little less than perfect in a dark room, especially in the upper left corner. The TV seems a bit flimsy when attached to the stand provided. I mounted it on my wall and it seems more sturdy.

4.5/5. I'm not an expert on all modern TVs, but I think this one has great picture, especially with 4K content. I mainly use the TV for playing Xbox and streaming on HBO and Netflix. I upgraded to the Netflix 4K option to harness more of this TV's ability. It works great connected to Xbox or Blu-Ray player; as other reviewers have mentioned, it is a little slow in its built-in interface and changing inputs - that is the only negative in my opinion, which is why I'd drop it a half star.
I can't speak on behalf of the TV's audio since I use a surround sound system.

Overall is an amazing TV from build and picture quality, as well as very aesthetically pleasing. The reason why I haven't given it a 5 star is due to the software. At times the TV has glitches when casting YouTube from my mobile device in such manner the cast tries to connect and than the TV rejects it or the cast starts but than there is no sound. Every time this happens I have to go into the TV settings and restart the OS. Also I have bought the SONY sound bar and I am using the HDMI ARC to connect to the TV. This is also another area in which the software of the TV it occasionally fails to perform to expectations.
In any case I believe this is still the best TV from a quality/features per dollar perspective. Great buy!

I decided at the last minute to go with the 850D. I was at Best Buy about to purchase the 900C when the associate pointed out that the 900C had light issues and with the two side by side, it was an easy choice to make that the 850D was a much better choice. I got it home and connected everything, the TV automatically programmed everything connected to it. It was amazing. I went off grid, no cable, no uverse. I have an antenna and I use SlingTV and Netflix. Love it. Great TV.

I upgrade to this TV from a plasma and I freaking love it. One of the best TV's I've ever owned, I love how thin the TV as well as the great picture. The only downside is the lack of 4K content. I found myself watching a lot of 4K demo videos from YouTube and watching 4K content on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Upscaling 1080 content look great but still not as good true 4K content, definitely can't wait until sports is broadcasted in 4K. Planning hooking my PC up to it and trying some game on it really soon.

I purchased this TV with the intention of just watching it in HDR and 4k. It was well worth it. Super clear and high brilliant picture. The sound is just okay -- not the most superior but if you're a home theatre/ external speakers kind of person- then it won't be an issue as the visual aesthetics of this TV are exceptional. The apps and chromecast build into it are very useful and efficient. The only minor issue is I can't stream my iphone to the TV (but it works well with androids). It'd be useful for me to listen to my music on my phone if it did mirror iOS. If you have apple tv then its no problem. Its a good tv though.

I've been using this just over a week in my living room and love it ! Price was discounted $200. This my 2nd Sony TV. I have a 9 year old 40" LCD TV that is still working fine. I've just been using the VIVID set up for the picture and a HD antennae and the picture comes out great from networks that has 1080 signals ! I've also bought a Samsung 4K upscaling bluray player and I set that with HDR setting on the TV and the picture is also great but have only watch a handful of my bluray movies. The sound in my opinion is also great but I've got this TV hooked up to a Bose sound system via the optical digital output. This is a 2-person job to assemble it from the box whether you put it on a tv stand or on the wall. Using my iPhone as a hotspot to download software upgrades. Need to shop around for a fast internet provider maybe Frontier's FIOS Internet which is available in my neighborhood.

I wanted a massive TV for my bedroom. Although my room is big, this TV is far too big, bright and loud for just casual bedroom watching. In my situation at the time, the tv was too nice to put in a communal area, so I needed it in my room to watch live sports. Now that I don’t have roommates, it can be relocated. I purchased this TV in 2016 and after thousands of hours of viewing, I have had exactly zero problems.

I love this TV. Once I hook it up to my internet, my wife was to see and connect with her phone everytime she comes home. It really a smart tv. I can even watch Netflix in 4K hd without buying any extra add on devices. I bought tv think it was too for large bedroom but it looks different when you have it home vs the store. I was going to buy the Sony XBR65X750 because it was on sale for thanksgiving. I am glad I didn't do to the ultra thin design, trilumions display, X1 processor, and andriod tv.

This is my attempt at reviewing this tv , first of all it has a great picture, its like you can stick your hand in the screen it's that life like, but you have to have the hard ware to support that too , like a 4k DVD player and the right hdmi cables to carry that information to it , most cable tv and satellite tv boxes don't have 4k output yet , but you can stream 4k programs through Netflix and such , and you can buy 4k movies, the first 4k movie I bought was Tarzan and it is amazing very clear , I run all my 4k signal through a onkyo reciever, which is another story all in all very happy with it

Perfect Mid-Level 4K TV

I originally started looking at 4K TV's when I upgraded to the PlayStation Pro. To get a full immersion of the new system you need at least a 55in 4K TV with decent lag latency(game mode) and this one does not disappoint. With full HDR, Android TV and also PS Vue installed it was a perfect fit for me. The price and quality of this TV is a excellent choice for a Mid-Level 4K TV. If you have the money to go BIG I would choose any of the 55in or higher LG OLED they are the best out right now.

I've owned this TV for about two months now.
Android TV is a game changer. There is NO LAG when navigating, which was a huge problem with my prior VIZIO TV. The processor on this set is powerful enough to keep things running smoothly.
I play ps4 regularly and game mode is perfect.
Very easy to navigate and Chromecast built in. I put my Leaf antenna up for network sports and use Netflix, Hulu and YouTube to watch anything else. $20 a month instead of $140 to my cable company.

I have owned this tv for 5 no the now and I can only say that the tv looks amazing. The size the weight the picture are all great. The remote is horrible. Its thick and doesn't have a sleep button. The remote looks like you better touch up on your electronics lessons cause your going to be playing with it for a long time. Honestly I wish it had a slide out key board. The remote is so thick you would assume it had one already. But other than that so far so good. The tv hasn't broken down on me yet. The speakers are horrible horrible horrible. For these two reasons I have it four stars.
