Faulty unit, cumbersome, lengthy warranty process

I unpacked it gently, set it up, and turned it on. On the black screen a bright vertical purple line of faulty pixels from top to bottom in one area of the screen. I cannot take it back to Best Buy. Contacted Sony warranty support, spent most of an hour testing stuff. Then I was asked to take several pictures of the fault and model label, and email it to them. A full day later they replied that they would decide in one or two more business days. Assuming they finally decide to honor the warranty they will ship a replacement screen, and that's likely to take another week. The entire process is cumbersome, lengthy, and makes the customer jump through hoops. Maybe I'll eventually get a good TV out of this, but I'm not ever likely to buy another Sony, and certainly not at a place where I can't take it back.

When I was looking to purchase a TV I hadn't expected to purchase a Sony. We have owned many Sony TV's in the past and have been very happy with them, but the price was always higher than most. I was fortunate enough to buy this TV at the right time. I got a great deal on it and couldn't be happier. The color is crystal clear and sharp. The features on it are easy to use and there are many. The set up is quick and easy and best of all the TV is light. My daughter and myself had no issue lifting it up to place it on the stand. The sound is blah, as most TV sound is. We purchased a sound bar and it makes a world of difference.

The sales person took a lot of time to explain my buying options for TVs. I really appreciated it as I'm not that up to speed on the technical differences between them. I'm also not all that concerned with the blackest black or the difference in color vibrancy that I can't even detect. Not dismissing those aspects of deciding on a TV, they're just not high on my list. What I was interested in was smart TV from a reputable manufacture with a 55 inch screen. All that being said, the picture is beautiful. I replaced a 46 inch LCD, so this TV is much lighter and about the same overall dimensions, only this TV is all screen, which I like. I'm not a big fan of large frames around wall mounted TVs. I don't have a sound bar, but the sound is fine. A sound bar would be better, but not a must have item. This next observation is a little weird, but here goes: I really like the dull gray screen when there's no signal. All the TVs I've owned have had that bright blue background when there is no signal detected. Typically they're so bright that it's almost blinding if you happen to be in a dark room. Really no big deal, but I do switch HDMIs quite often (DirecTV, Apple TV, Playstation) and I do fall alseep in front of the darn thing, so when signal prodcing device turns itself off, I don't get blasted with obnoxious blue hues that my nieghbors can detect. Also, this is the first smart TV I've owned and if you're thinking it's not that big of a deal, it is. You won't regret having the features and options without HAVING to hang other devices off of it. It's a great TV and I would recommend it to anyone.

I purchased this Open-Box and have been incredibly happy with my purchase. Picture Quality: Crisp, with exceptionally good color and good motion accuracy (minimal/zero blur). The only knock that I can give the picture quality is that the blacks are a little lacking in depth and tend to flatten out and look all-black, but that is nit-picky for the price that I paid. Features and Functions: Sony has done a really good job laying out the various menus. Easy to navigate and so far, everything works really well. The 4K streaming on Netflix is absolutely fantastic. The Menu navigation is simple enough that I would recommend this for the less tech savvy users out there. The remote is pretty good but I really wish that it was back-lit. It's not quite intuitive enough to navigate by touch when watching a movie in the dark. Another note, I use my computer to Cast to the tv A LOT and it works incredibly well from Chrome. I would give this tv 5-stars except for one constant issue. The wi-fi does not always connect automatically when turning the unit on (9/10 times this function fails). It's a simple matter of navigating to the Network Settings and activating it which takes 10 - 30 seconds but it's annoying. This seems to be a constant issue with this model and some others from the same family that will not be resolved in their lifetime. I would not let it deter someone from purchasing this tv but it is an issue to be aware of.

I did a lot of research before deciding in this TV as my funds were limited and I wanted the best quality and value for my money. So happy I selected this Sony instead of a Samsung. (Samsung's are good TVs, if you don't mind being forced to view ads in order to use the TV). For a value-priced 55" 4K/HDR TV this Sony has much more than you would get from any other brand at this price. Bluetooth is great for headphones or a mini keyboard. There are 4 HDMI ports - all of which are 4K compatible (instead of just one 4K on other brands) and the picture quality with HDR is amazing once you calibrate the settings. The IPS and matte screen allow for a wider viewing angle and glare is not an issue. 3 usb ports allow extra storage of media or apps from Google play store - yep, it has an Android OS. The Google Chromecast installed is another awesome feature. The TV is capable of voice commands, but Sony doesn't include the upgraded remote to enable this feature, however one can be purchased for $50. Although the TV only has a native refresh rate of 60hz the Motion Rate of 240 works just fine and I haven't noticed any blur or jutter. I can't say anything about the sound as I immediately hooked it up to my surround sound.

I absolutely love this tv!! First off, the picture is incredible! The colors are so vivid and clear, watching blu rays and even the new 4K feature takes movies to a whole different level. Its very user friendly as well, I had no problems setting everything up and using it. The smart tv options are a plus too! I can access netflicks and hulu instantly. No regrets here!! I will stick with SONY!!!!

Hubby and I had this out of the box, base assembled, plugged in, cable connected, and operational in about 30 minutes. It took a little longer to auto-program the channels, but that's to be expected. The instructions for assembling the base are fairly useless, but assembly is really easy and intuitive once you pull out the pieces (there are only a few) and look them over. Most important, the TV has a wonderful picture and the sound quality is nice. Most programming isn't up to the TV's 4k capabilities yet. But 4k programming is coming, and I have no doubt this TV will display it spectacularly. I stood in the Best Buy store and watched the various 4k TVs displaying 4k content, and this one was the best by far. So, in a word, I am a satisfied buyer.

Everything about this TV speaks to the quality the Sony brand has earned over the years. The Android TV portion is a nice fit for smart TVs and is easy to learn IMO. The picture is extremely sharp, setup/installation was easy, and customization controls demonstrate many great features to please most everyone. The only 'con' or disappointment was that the remote did not come with voice control even though the TV is able - must spend $50 more just to get remote...otherwise, I would have given 5 stars.

After my bedroom tv died I went to Best Buy and picked this one up. My old one was a 52" Samsung LCD that lasted 9 years. I went with Sony this time because I bought a Sony ht-xt2 soundbase and wanted a matching tv. The pedestal of the tv is small enough to fit on top of the soundbase and the hdmi arc communication between the two worked perfectly right out of the box. As far as the tv is concerned, it's very good for an led lcd. The colors are very natural, the 4K is very detailed when watching 4K blurays through my xbox one s, and the off angle viewing is the best I've seen from any led lcd tv. I have a 60" Samsung plasma in my living room and still believe it has an overall better picture due to its contrast, color, and superior black levels. Plasma tv's are no longer available, so I think I got one of the best tv's currently available for around $800.

I purchased this TV in February during a sale for about $800 after my Sony Bravia 3D TV's LCD panel failed after only 5 years of light use. I seriously hesitated going with another Sony though I have been happy with all previous Sony TV's before the one that failed. Anyway to this TV. I mainly used it to watch HD over-the-air (OTA - I use a TV antenna) shows and netflix/hulu through an Apple TV. The picture is superb, colors are rich. Upscaling is nice, but I haven't really been able to compare it to a true 4K picture. Black areas are mostly even and deep - though I'm not a high-expectation movie buff/picture snob. Smart function is much faster and functional than my previous 5yr old smart TV which was near unusable. TV Guide works well. My favorite feature is PICTURE MUTE!!! I am able to have the screen go black while the sound keeps going. I've wanted this on a TV for ages for all the garbage commercials they throw at you these days. I'm overall very happy with the purchase, but only time will tell how long this TV lasts. Hopefully Sony (and the other TV manufactures) improved over the string of TVs made throughout the industry 5-10 years ago that only lasted a few years.

My previous TV of 10 years finally decided to call it quits, so it was time to upgrade. I did a decent amount of research and ultimately decided on this Sony in the end (also with some help of the sales associate). It may not be the top of the line, but I am very impressed. Excellent picture, easy setup. I'm very happy that I decided to go with this TV. My reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the sleep function. Some people may not care about this, but it is a function that I use a lot. Just about any flat panel tv I've ever owned has had a sleep function right on the remote and this one does not. You have to go into the menu to find it, and it's about 10-15 button clicks too many to set.

The Sony XBR55X700D is a very nice mid-level 4K tv. I originally purchased an LG 4K, but returned it because of lag and blurriness when watching sports. The Sony has a great picture when watching sports as it does not have the blurriness or lag I experienced with the LG. PROS Easy to set up. Great picture, especially for sports. Cost. CONS Does not support Spectrum/Time Warner App (Samsung does). Remote is basic.

In my opinion, Sony makes the best TV's and I will probably not try another brand again. I have a Samsung I bought 3 years ago and it's already having issues. I also have an old Sony Bravia 40 inch TV (one of the first LED HD models) and it's still going strong after 15 years. This XBR model is really nice. Sharp, crisp picture, deep colors and a great price for a Sony 55 inch. The only negative things I can thing of is that you need a remote to turn it on/off. So far I have not found a power button on the console itself, not too much of an issue unless you lose the remote. I would have liked a better refresh rate for fast action scenes but then I would have had to spend much more $$. Still, Sony's Motionview does a good job and with 1080p programs the picture is stunning.

What I like most about this television is the picture quality and that it doesn't connect to the Internet automatically. The thing that I most do NOT like is the connections, has four HDMIs but ONLY ONE Video Cables connection in GREEN, BLUE, and RED as one set of cables. Then by it, RED and White Connection ONLY, that is it! I had to go through three DVD Players before I found one that was compatible with this TV. The compatible one was a Toshiba DVD/VCR Combo Player that we just love because we can burn a VHS tape to a DVD and watch it on this tv at the same time.
