Top Tier OLED offering from SONY

Top tier OLED in SPADES. Sony engineered an impeccable TV with the Bravia 8. Considered their upper mid tier OLED offering behind their top tier (and most expensive) A95L, this set still holds its own. The color palette and contrasts are absolutely brilliant. The user interface is fluid and butterery smooth. Vast improvement over their previous generations. Great pairing with today's next gen consoles, specifically the PS5. The gaming display options and customization is on par with other OLED manufacturers and is a seamless pairing with a Sony PS5, naturally. My only two knocks that may be a factor for others is the screen nits (brightness) is a tad on the darker end compared to other OLEDs. That being said, after customizing the brightness and display settings while not diminishing the picture quality was easy enough to address this. However, using this TV during the day with a lot of natural sunlight might be too much to overcome for even the most astute at adjusting display settings. I use it in a bedroom with curtains so not much of an issue there. The other thing to consider is only two available (out of the four equipped) HDMI 2.1 ports. A lot of similar priced OLED sets from manufacturers give you four HDMI 2.1 ports. Not an issue if you only plan to use one next gen console and a sound system. If you want to connect multiple consoles or devices then this may not be the best choice for you. Those are the only two minor knocks against this TV that may not even be knocks or concerns for many others depending on where you use it and what you connect to it. Overall, fantastic OLED and could not be happier with this purchase!

This is an excellent TV. The vocal focusing feature as someone who is hard of hearing is really good. Helps boost the sounds of voices in shows and movies something I typically have to rely on subtitles for, I can hear with a lot more clarity. 10/10 would recommend. One critique I would say is that it did take me a bit to get the sound working properly on my PS5, but I imagine that was as a result of my own ignorance than a flaw with the TV. Also make sure you’re using a good cable. Spend the money on a quality HDMI.

My favorite TV so far

This has become my favorite TV I have owned so far. I purchased this TV for my office/man cave and it has been a dream. I use it for watching movie, playing games or just as a screensaver with pictures on it that is up while I am working for the day.
Once I tweaked the settings to my liking I found the picture to be crisp and clean. The color spectrum is excellent and the black levels are the best I have seen.
To call out something I feel the TV excels at: when gaming it is unmatched in my experience. The gaming specific video setting gives excellent refresh rate and color making for a very smooth gaming experience. It is a little less bright compared to the more 'vivid' movie/cinema settings but if you aren't too bothered by having a little less bright of a picture I think it is perfect for gaming in every other way.
The included speaks on the TV are 'not bad' but I am a big believer in running your tv through some kind of sound bar or system anyway.

So on Black Friday weekend I made kind of an impulse buy after a friend said they were getting a new TV. I thought - this is something I've been wanting to do for a long time.. so I went to Best Buy and purchased a lower level 55" Samsung. After thinking about it I decided to upgrade and was talked into a Hisense ULED. After getting it setup at home I could not get it to look right no matter what settings I adjusted. Everything was too bright, cloudy angle viewing, I just wasn't happy. I then returned it and went for the Sony Bravia 8 OLED and glad that I did. The sound was better, the viewing angle is clearer, and the colors are much better without all that extra unrealistic brightness. And for my general purposes no sound bar is needed. The Sony was quite a bit more expensive but well worth it. The only thing was you will need patience to set it up. It took some time and I actually had to call Sony for help - maybe you will be faster than I with this. The Hisense was much quicker and easier. However, if you are anything like me and dislike unrealistic skin tones on people's faces, nature colors, and appreciate rich natural looking colors with clean side viewing.. get this Sony - it's well worth it!

I own 2 Bravia 8 TVs. One has been flawless. The other has had Wi-Fi stability issues from Day 1. It is being replaced at no cost by Best Buy. The built in sound system ain’t the same as home theatre surround, but if unless you are an “audiophile” the built in sound is very very good!

Thank you for sharing your review of the Bravia 8 TVs, GerardZ. It’s great to hear that one of your units has been flawless and that you are satisfied with the built-in sound quality for general use, noting that it may not match a home theatre surround system but is still very good for most users. Regarding the Wi-Fi stability issues you experienced with your other TV, we apologize for the inconvenience and are glad to know that Best Buy is replacing it for you at no cost.
For future reference, there are certain troubleshooting steps you can take if you encounter Wi-Fi connectivity issues again. These include performing a power reset of the TV and your router, ensuring the firmware is up to date, checking the network status on your TV, and potentially turning off unnecessary devices to reduce interference. Detailed troubleshooting steps can be found in the support articles on the Sony website. https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/results?query=network
Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope you continue to enjoy your Sony products! Gus

Purchasing this for our home theater may have been the best investment we have made at Best Buy. With the 4K picture quality is dramatically improved over our previous Sony Bravia. With the addition of Google to this we are having to learn it’s functionality but have already discovered added benefits to this state of the art entertainment.

Hi JamesB,
Thanks for your feedback on the BRAVIA 8. We're glad to hear how happy you're with the TV's great color quality.
Regarding the sound, we understand that built-in TV audio can sometimes be limited. To potentially improve your experience, you might want to try exploring the sound settings in the TV's menu to find a mode that suits your preferences. However, for a truly enhanced home theater experience, many users choose to pair their BRAVIA TV with a Sony soundbar, which is designed to complement the TV's audio performance.
We appreciate you choosing Sony!
Sincerely, Jenn | Sony North America.

Fantastic product- definitely an upgrade from our previous tv. We love the display, colors, and user-friendly interface. It was an adjustment to transition to Google for entertainment/app management, but so far so good. We also like that the tv has extra protection from heat because it is on a window ledge. My husband is also thrilled the tv supports the crunchyroll app, which isn’t supported on every tv.

I enjoy this TV overall in terms of picture quality, intuitiveness, ease of use, and features, but it randomly turns off while watching it and listening via blue tooth headphones. This is despite changing all of the settings to NOT auto turn off. I've seen it randomly turn on, too. This is despite not having the TV microphone on (I left the manual switch off for now). (key note: house probably not haunted).

Hi Thomas, Thank you for your review and for sharing your experience with the BRAVIA 8 TV. We're glad to hear that you enjoy the picture quality, intuitiveness, ease of use, and features of the TV. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the TV randomly turning off and on, especially while using Bluetooth headphones.
To address the issue of the TV turning off and on randomly, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:
Power Reset: Turn off the TV and unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet. Wait for 60 seconds before plugging it back in and turning the TV on.
Update Software: Ensure that your TV's software is updated to the latest version. This can often resolve specific issues.
Check Settings:
Disable the On timer or Timer settings. Turn off the TV auto power on setting in BRAVIA Sync settings or HDMI CEC Settings. Adjust the energy saver settings to ensure the TV does not turn off automatically. Set the Sleep timer and Auto shut-off settings to Off. Check External Devices: Ensure that any connected devices (such as soundbars or other HDMI devices) are not set to control the TV's power settings.
Factory Reset: If the issue persists, consider performing a factory reset to restore the TV to its original settings.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, it may be necessary to contact Sony support for further assistance. You can contact our product support team via phone call at 855-806-8464 or chat through this link: https://us.esupport.sony.com/support/s/service?language=en_US.

I previously owned a Sony TV for 16 years before it no longer became watchable. Therefore, I purchased another Sony. This one has a great picture, but the TV locked up on me within two weeks of purchasing it. The remote control wouldn't do anything to address this (it didn't work). I had to unplug the TV and then plug it back in to reset it.
I also have experienced the issue of NexGen channels showing up as a black screen (with audio) on a number of occasions. Changing channels doesn't fix the issue, nor does turning the TV off and then back on. Only unplugging the TV and then plugging it back in corrects the problem each time. This is disappointing for what I feel is one of the top TV brands on the market.

Have the A95L Sony 77 inch and absolutely love that TV. Purchased this Bravia 8 for the in laws and after set up, and a 2 hour picture and speaker tweak, this TV picture and sound are right on par. Just an awesome offering from Sony. I have owned so many high end TV's from every major brand and I keep going back to Sony. My request to any prospective buyer....do not judge this or any Sony TV on the picture out of the box. It is very good for sure, but EVERY environment is different, and the TV will need to be calibrated to your specific environment of light vs dark, window glare vs not, etc. There are SO many settings to explore! If you cannot find the right picture setting, hire someone to do it for you. I guarantee you, it's not the TV it is the operator. Love this Bravia 8 from Sony and my in laws are over the moon.

Nice TV, got it as an open box item that was on display in my local store. Unfortunately they were not able to find the original stand to the tv but we were able to make do. Have always heard Sony was the best brand for tv’s (even when I worked for Best Buy briefly) and wanted to try one out. Has a very nice picture, well above what it would be replacing (a 16 year old Samsung) Would recommend!

I recently purchased the Sony 55" Class BRAVIA 8 OLED 4K UHD Smart Google TV, and I am absolutely blown away by its performance! The colors are incredibly vibrant, and the clarity of the screen is remarkable from every angle—no more worrying about viewing spots.
I decided to upgrade from my TCL TV due to some issues, and during my visit to Best Buy, a salesperson made a compelling point that really resonated with me. She said, “Sony makes movies and invests a lot of technology into their production. It only makes sense that they ensure the same level of quality in their displays.” I couldn’t argue with that logic, and I’m so grateful I made the switch
This Sony TV has truly transformed my viewing experience. Whether I'm watching movies or playing video games, the detail and richness of the picture are just unmatched. If you’re considering an upgrade, I highly recommend taking the plunge with Sony—you won’t regret it
