    Day One

Spent 3 hours in Magnolia yesterday while Christmas fanatics drove carts crazily thru the store, with no regard for those trying to view items. However, thanks to a Magnolia Section traffic was more subdued! I did the comparison between both the Sony & LG OLED 55" models back & forth until I wore a track in the carpet. I MUST admit that the Sony seemed to produce a more detailed, clearer, and positively dark picture in many areas on the screen! Due to my limited mounting space at home I am only unable to fit the 55" model - which is a bummer since the 65" was breathtaking! Also, I didnt stop at just this phenomenal OLED TV. Onto the trolley went a new top shelf Marantz Receiver, Martin Logan Motion 2 Rear Speakers, Motion 4 Front Speakers, and Motion 4 Center Chanel - PLUS the 4 year Geek Squad Protection Plan of course! Total # = Classified, since the Store GM did me a SERIOUS Solid due to being a Disabled Vet. (Many, many thanks Fairlakes Management!) Setup and mounting for me was a complete PITA due to the previous wall mount location. Sony seems to think their seriously expensive new TVs can survive being hung on bolts the size of a pencil, which I found ridiculous. Once mounted setup was much more simple from there. Since everything runs thru my Marantz (And Panamax Power Management Device "Fancy Surge Protector") this walks you thru Input setup pretty decent. Once figuring out all inputs it was time to bring this monster to life For those who don't know it, you need an Android Gmail Account to obtain the best setup results with this TV (Apple Fans Beware) since everything is configured and setup via this means. Not positive what you can and cannot do WITHOUT this, despite 3 Macs used in household. Android does expedite things alot though! Once powered on I was able to play with the Video settings a bit more than the Sony Rep showed me in the store. (Keep in mind that what they show you on store TVs is the absolute cleanest picture quality imaginable to get you drawn in! Regular TV will NEVER look like it was when you bought it-NEVER! If you run True HD content thru DTV or Verizon Fios (My Provider) you can certainly get pretty close. Of course a BluRay DVD will produce stunning picture quality too! My advice = play with settings to see what looks best for you. If you get lost and Ben Afflecks face looks pasty in "The Accountant" - just hot "RESET" and it Defaults to what Sony "thinks" you should have Biggest Con? = Not being able to Disabled that stupid Volume Bar from crossing the bottom of the TV whenever you change it. Tried EVERY setting known to man, researched it, and despite what Sony says is fixed by a Firmware Update, You will continue to see that Volume Bar! The ONLY way I ended up fixing this ridiculous issue was by configuring my Harmony Universal Remote to control EVERYTHING from TV, Receiver, Verizon Set Top Box / DVR, etc. If you don't own one, it may be advantageous to add this to your collection. After all, you may just drop a "Non-Negotiable" amount of money on this Sony OLED in the end! (Another Con - Sony sure gets their's by not permitting ANYONE to discount this TV) Oh well, right? Semper Fidelis & Merry Christmas to All !!

    Really solid product

First off I AM a Best Buy Employee. I think that being an employee makes me a bit more unbiased and honest. Over the years I have found that the impulse to buy "the latest and greatest" is diluted by the huge amount of new products brought to my attention on a daily basis. I now have a clearer idea of how to buy due to the fact that I spend time with a item and have a real chance to experience it and know if I really "need" it- haha. So, after viewing Oled and LED/Qled tvs everyday I was able to make a much more educated decision. The Qled's and other higher end led televisions are great! I just found that for me the OLED was a good fit. The perfect blacks and the ability to reproduce HDR content so well made me a believer. I like the depth and 3-d like images that are present on this display. The beautiful colors and superb motion processing makes this a perfect television for the movie junkie. The tv has the ability to make images look like they are hovering on the screen because no light bleed or "halo'ing" is present. Sony also promised a firmware update to all the current models with the "X-1 Extreme" processor so that update is highly anticipated and should put this tv to the top of the list for many who are seeking the perfect TV. Highly recommended! If I was to detract any points it would be for the android tv. I find this to be a personal issue and not one that takes from the television but I just don't like the operating system. My solution was an 4k HDR Apple TV to take care of smart features and with that I"m absolutely 100% satisfied!

Best OLED I've seen so far

    Posted .

I currently have a 65" LG 9500 OLED in my main room and until now it had been the best TV I've ever owned. Their is just no comparison to OLED when it comes to natural black levels. I bought the 55" Sony A1E to go in another room and had the Geek Squad mount and set it up for me. I won't say there is a night and day difference between the two TVs but there are some noticeable differences. For one, my LG doesn't have the best motion processing, especially when it comes to slow camera panning in movies. The Sony A1E is flawless on any source, from fast action movies, sports and gaming to 720p cable broadcasts. The A1E is also as close to perfection when it comes to color processing, especially eliminating color banding. Watching Planet Earth 2 on 4K HDR Blu-Ray really highlighted this feature for me. In panoramic scenes of sunrise/sunsets there is absolutely no color banding in the skies, just a perfectly smooth transition of colors. The acoustic surface produces a pretty accurate sound and is a very cool feature, but is not necessarily a replacement for a decent 5.1 surround system. In short, this is the best TV I've ever owned.

The Best of Sony and OLED TV's

    Posted .

I was skeptical of OLED TVs until I saw the A1E for the first time. Really shows you that Sonys engineering with the X1 Extreme processor is what the TV is capable of, not the panel. This set has the best black levels and color I've ever seen and it's great with motion especially after you calibrate it. I've had a thrill watching old Blu-Rays on it, to testing it with the PS4 Pro and 4K Blu-Rays with the Sony X800 4K Player and the results are all phenomenal. You won't be disappointed with this TV. My only gripe with this set is that only HDMI ports 2 and 3 support full 4K and HDR. The other two don't support HDR which is a pain when you have a 4K Player, PS4 Pro, and a good sound bar you want to use together. HDMI 3 has ARC which I can't use because I need that for my 4K Player so I'm stuck using optical for my sound bar. My only disappointment. Other then that, it's the best TV I've ever had or seen. Totally worth it for all forms of media and entertainment.

6 years with this tv and its just as great now as it was when purchased. Great, clear picture. Puts or other tvs to shame. Looking at buying another to replace other non-oled tvs in the house. Only downside is the weight.

I looked at this for a long time before I decided to buy it, and wow am I ever happy I did. This is, without a doubt, the best TV I've ever seen. The picture is breathtaking, and the sound is wonderful without even needing a soundbar. I had the BestBuy installers hang it on the wall, since these sets are so (relatively) lightweight that I was seriously afraid it might get knocked over by a leaping cat. The guys did a courteous and professional job and then set up the set options and showed me how everything worked. The set is not cheap, but Sony never is. I compared it to the LG one that was nearby in the room and I just liked the Sony better. I like the operating system, the ease in downloading apps for things like YouTube and other things, and the nice customization options for the home screen. Is it pricey? Oh yeah. Is it worth it. Oh YEAH!

I use this for my PS4 Pro and 4K blu rays and boy oh boy is this tv incredible. I've never written even a review online, but this warrants it. I understand this is very expensive but I have the 55" and I can't say enough about it. It looks amazing as a set piece in my living room, and having Youtube 4K videos on the background when I have people over is a conversation starter. If you can afford this, you won't regret it.

This is the tv I always wanted and the video quality looks as great on my wall as it does in the store. If you like how it looks in the store rest assured when you get it home if you have good cables and access to good television service, you will love this set. I am amazed how awesome even youtube videos look on this television. My computer does not come close and my computer cost more than this tv. 34 inch ultra wide monitor and Evga Gtx 1080 FTW video card with full gaming desktop computer, but nothing looks as good as the Sony OLED tv. I could never be happy with anything else.
