There is a big difference between samsung and Sony in terms of image quality and pixel. The outstanding contrast and excellent black uniformity are great for watching movies in the dark. playing video games It has low input lag, a great response time, and great peak brightness in SDR, and it's future-proof, with two HDMI 2.1 ports, and although it displays 4k @ 120Hz signals properly for playing games. using sony after samsung is like an oasis in the desert.

Mounted on a movable mount and centered right over the fireplace in our very large living room, we can see it from every angle at any distance. With a sound bar, the sound quality is excellent. More to the point, the COLOR is exquisite, the picture SHARP, the handheld control gadgets work so easily and the TV has a BRAIN that responds, offers information, does not confuse.

One con is there is extremely little storage for apps. I ended up hooking up roku up, google tv is not very impressive. Another con is that I seem to have way too many notifications about wi-fi and internet connections when I am watching satellite based tv, that's annoying. Lately the tv turns off satellite on it's own when I am watching. I am on the fence with sound, tv alone is ok, soundbar adds some clarity. Will upgrade to higher quality soundbar soon.

Our LG stopped working and we needed a replacement. Online research, and advice from my techie son, pointed us in the Sony Class X85J Series. 55" was a bit larger than we had wanted but it was available immediately. Ended up being the perfect size. Setup was relatively easy. We stream 100% of the time and use a frequent DVD. Good choice for this retired couple.
