Customers express satisfaction with the Apple CarPlay integration, sound quality, and ease of use of this 6.2" in-dash digital media receiver. Many also appreciate the inclusion of a volume knob and the functionality of the touchscreen. Positive feedback was also given for the backup camera and the fit of the unit. A common complaint, however, concerned the limited placement of USB ports.

The physical volume/ on/off knob was the primary reason for picking this initially. It’s also an older design from a few years ago. The overall look fits well with cars from the 90’s-00’s with dark plastic or vinyl trim. The response and interface is good and warrants no complaints. However the lack of a rear USB connect means I have to keep a cord tethered to the front of the unit, which is unsightly and annoying. It also lacks android auto. For this price I was disappointed. A newer design pioneer for $50 more to run a hidden cable into my center counsel, provisions for android auto and a little more modern interface- was what I bought after returning this Sony.

I installed in a 2002 Porsche Boxster and the no CD meant it wasn’t as deep and MUCH easier to install. I wanted this because Sony has always given me great results and this is an exceptional price for CarPlay. I also liked the fact it had a small volume knob and remote so I’m not fumbling on the touch screen with the top down on a sunny day

This product is awesome! I actually had a Sony 5100BT before this purchase. I wanted an upgrade the allowed me to see the maps and waze apps on a bigger screen and this device fit the bill. Great sound quality nice display. The volume knob is nice and easy to manipulate. Touch screen is responsive. I will say in order for Car Play to be active on IPhone it needs to be plugged in via the USB port on the front of the device cannot comment on Android auto. I am super happy with the product! And best buy always rocks when it comes to buying electronics

Things are fairly ordinary here. And that is a good thing. The screen is kind of reflective and that is annoying. The placement of the USB connection was a bonehead move. It interferes with the operation of the volume nipple.
Sound is very good when you turn off the very poorly executed DSP effect. In fact in my 2006 VW rabbit I wound up flattening the EQ. My car has 6.5” woofers, 4” midrange and a tweeter in each front door. Any boost in any frequency ruined the sound.
CarPlay worked perfectly and immediately since I am setup for CarPlay in another car. Screen is a bit smaller than I am used to but it’s fine. I didn’t setup a reverse cam because the visibility in my little hatchback is excellent.
I bought this open box excellent, used Best Buy points and adding the install kit for $16.99 and the wiring harness for my cars weird ignition system for $40 and all done I upgraded a 17 year old car to a car where my phone gives me a GPS, hands free calls and more for under $300. Worth it.

I was skeptical at first because this is a Sony audio product which I’ve stayed away from. I prefer audio specific brands, but it came down to me trying out Sony and let me say I am IMPRESSED! The build is great, the sounds is great, and the software is amazing. I also like how they stuck with a physical volume knob rather than buttons, it’s such a minor detail that makes a huge difference! If you’re looking for something affordable and more than gets the job done, look no further! This is it!!

I have an android phone but my experiences with Android Auto have been subpar. Considering the unit with this feature was $80 more I decided to go with this one. The sound is fantastic, the screen is bright, and it has a physical knob for volume. That said, Carplay is what really takes it to the next level. After seeing it with my wife's phone I purchased an iPhone 7 just so I could use Carplay. The combination of tidal, this unit, and Carplay is perfect!

Just what i wanted: works with new back up camera, easy to connect to our family of I Phones, an excellent and easy to use menu of sound settings so we can all have music our own way and simple to toggle through to change. Sound quality is excellent. Best of all, the unit looks as if it was designed to fit in dash of our car.

Bought this for $299, one of the cheaper radio receivers. I bought after reading reviews and getting advice from Best Buy employees. This seemed like the best match for the price. I got it for my 2017 Honda civic sport, hatchback, standard key
CONS: Reviewers applauded itsvolume knob, but that thing is SMALL and annoyingly placed right above the usb port. I have tiny hands, but if you have big hands you’ll might be annoyed by it. I usually just control the volume with the steering wheel controls. I’m also not digging the front usb connection, I thought I could still use my other usb connectors to connect to CarPlay but I no longer can. And it doesn’t connect to CarPlay via bluetooth, it’s a simple Bluetooth connection for music. The usb is kinda ugly looking sticking out right there too, in my opinion. & I don’t really like how you can’t control the brightness, it just has an auto dim setting and I feel like it’s still too bright at night.
PROS: aside from all the annoyances, I think it’s still good for the price. I like the audio settings it has like the equalizer, DSO and extra bass settings. It has connectivity to my back up camera, however has been glitching lately but Best Buy told me it must be the interface that needs switching out. So ima do that. It has steering wheel control for the music skipping but not the voice command. You can hold the audio volume knob down to control Siri which is cool. No problems with touch screen so far. It so has a rear view camera button but it says to shut off the engine when ur click it.. and am confused why it’s there if you can’t access while engine is on.
In the end I’d probably pay a little more to not have to connect my usb straight to the receiver, get something with brightness control too. Would be great to have a bigger volume knob. Not bad for the price but curious what other options could have been for like $100-200 more. Do note, you will need to pay like $200 more for other connections and accessories you need for the free installation such as the steering wheel control, camera connection, harness, mic, etc. it beats having a radio without CarPlay in the end so I’m grateful, but will probably want to upgrade it when I can. The free installation is easy and you just need to make sure you reserve an appointment when or before buying! Be sure to have everything ready for when you go. Hope this helps

Just installed this over the weekend. It fit well in my 2006 GMC Sierra 3500. I didn't really need the car-play part of it, I picked this one because of the volume knob, and the USB port in the front. Sounds pretty good, but not fantastic. The stock radio had more bass then this one does. I turned the loudness on and set the EQ which is easy to do. It seemed to pair with my phone easily iphone 12 mini. I just mainly needed it to stream music from my phone and handsfree phone calls, which it seems to do fine. Seems like it was on the top end price wise of the lower featured double din touch screens. But I went with it because normally Sony is pretty reliable. It doesn't do anything that outstanding, but there are no glaring faults that I have found in it so far either. So all in all, not to bad.

Very nice system for the money. Very simple and has what I want. CarPlay and the optional backup camera. For a baby boomer who only needs those two features in a car stereo this could have not been a better choice. Add to it that BB installed it for free (kinda) it made my 20 year old truck feel new again.

Purchased this as a replacement to the OEM radio in my daughter's car. Wanted a better option for bluetooth hands-free calling, but also wanted something with Apple CarPlay. Sounds good with the standard OEM speaker system and easy to use. Like the fact that it has a dial to control the volume. Installed by BestBuy technician and completely satisfied.

Feel like I have a new car, excited to get in a go for a drive again. Carplay is great for the apps that it supports, can use BT audio for those that are not supported (digital books from the library, etc). Looks good, can change several background colors, radio seems to be improved upon the factory unit, and the USB cord is easy to plug in the front. I haven't had a problem seeing the screen, even on sunny days, screen feels 'squishy' compared to your phone, but it plenty responsive. I recommend a black 90 degree Monoprice 1.5ft cord for a slicker cord appearance. Any with free install, can't go wrong. installed professionally, with mic next to the rearview mirror.
Only thing I don't know how to do easily is charge the phone while playing over BT audio (it wants to kick to Carplay, yet sometimes it will work).

Great replacement to the factory stereo that went out in my older vehicle. Had lots of trouble with set up at first and thought it was user error. Finally took back to store for exchange and the 2nd one was a breeze to set up. Works great now. Fits perfectly in the original stereo space and looks original.

Operates as a radio and includes Bluetooth to answer calls. It also includes Sppke Pksy to allow me to access my iPhone apps such as iTunes, messages and a full GPS system great sound and easy to use. Once in a while my audiobooks roll suddenly turn off then go back on but that is infrequent. So far I’m very happy with it.

Bought open box from Best Buy. Came with original accessories minus a little dirty. After cleaning it and wiring it to fit my 05 Saturn Ion it works perfectly. I had an issue at first with sound not coming from the speakers at all. This was totally user error as I didn’t know I had to hook it my Amp out wire. CarPlay works perfect so far when connecting my iPhone XR. I can doordash and use maps at the same time now. Instead of switching back and forth between apps. Bought the accidental protection plan with it. So far I don’t have any complaints. Quality is what you expect from Sony. Would buy this again for my next car.

Highly Recommend. I don't usually go for fancy gadgets in my car. My car is old enough that it came stock with a CD player. I bought this stereo so that I could use apple car play. This unit is a bargain, considering it's from a reputable brand. This product is easy to use. The touch screen is responsive. It's easy to clean and I like that it includes some physical buttons and a volume knob. This makes it easy to turn off quickly. The install was fast and the customer service was outstanding.

The Sony XAV-AX1000 is a great stereo. It looks neat and clean and gave my car a fresh look. The interface is simple and the touch screen worked great. The sound was amazing and the Car Play feature was why I bought this stereo. Definitely would recommend!

This is the second Sony AX100 that I have purchased. The CarPlay functionality, especially for the price, is fantastic. The first one, that I bought six months prior, was slightly better in my opinion, because of the ability to import a custom photo on the background (vehicle manufacturer logo really makes it look stock) and the newer model only has USB access on the front vs. only on the back (I prefer to conceal my cables).
That said, the ability to have CarPlay or Android Auto functionality for such a low price is worth it. The unit looks good and easy to operate. My speakers never sounded so good.
