Ok I waited till I had some time with this TV to report on my findings and feelings on this TV. To be honest I bought it because it was cheap $648 on sale and thought I would take a chance. I have owned many Sony products before and have not been left wanting so I expected the risk would be small. I also went into this not expecting 4K unit with all the bells and whistles. I just wanted a 60" with a great picture and had no need for 3D and all sorts of motion features that will be shut off anyways once I calibrated the TV. Ok now for the TV. Yes the TV is advertised at 120 HZ and in one place Sony claimed it was only 60 HZ so there is some confusion. But with that said unless you plan on using this with a PC you will get as good of a picture as possible as broadcast, Video Game units and almost all Blue Ray are 60 HZ. I would recommend to anyone to do your homework and read up on just what these numbers mean and how it really works. It will save you a lot of money many times no matter what TV you by. Too often people buy for numbers they never use or even understand,. The Set up was easy or as easy as any TV I had used. The Web linked up with no issues and I had it all running in the matter of minutes. The picture out of the box is much like what most said good but it like all TV's needs calibrated to the feed you have and light in your room. Also taste is a factor in set up. It took a little time but I was able to dial mine in pretty much to where I have a good picture SD or HD. I started with the black and white movies and moved up from there. Contrast here is the one that needs the most dialing in as I was getting ghosting but with the right tune it went away. I have this to a 5.1 system and it works fine but as with my other Sony the factory in unit speakers they are better than Samsung. I don't always want a sub so this is a plus. The unit is very light. I took down a 40" Sony I bought in 2009 that still has a great picture and found it heavier than the 60". I am still using it in another room and it continues to serve well. The key to this unit is it has a lot of features you do not see in this price range on this size very often. It had all the connection one could really need unless you really have higher than normal demand of this unit. The unit is hooked to a Dish Hopper and all I really needed here was one HDMI to connect. The remote is smooth and easy to use for tuning. Much easier than my Sharp. To sum this up If you are looking for a good 60" to watch TV and don't want or demand all the latest marketing gimmicks this is your TV. It does just what I needed and wanted it to do. I get a great picture and color with good sound. I could have spent $400 more but the out come would have been the same. Take the time to learn the settings and how to tune the TV and you will find the right setting for your taste. Note each HDMI connection keeps its own settings so if you want to play around and not lose the settings you have then just change connections. I do recommending wall mounting this unit as the stand like many others on the market is just good enough. It wall mounts very easy and I had it done in a half hour and did not even have to adjust it to level it. If the long term service is good I will remain very happy. The long and short of it is you do not have to spend $1400 to get good TV all the time. Note to anyone who plans to use this with a PC. I would recommend going to a higher level set. While it may go great for kids a real gamer on a PC may demand even higher standards. In the end read up on just what the numbers are on a TV and just what the features are. Going in educated will give you a chance to avoid the poor marketing hype on HZ and Contrast as all the MFG distort the numbers to try to get a leg up. There are no market set standards on much of this and that is how you get Contrast numbers in the millions. If you want a good picture and are willing to learn and do the proper calibration you will find a really true bargain here. Would I recommend this yes!

I think reviews for a TV of this nature are hard. Given the various sales and deals around Black Friday, this TV was available at great price points for both the size and the brand. The R510a series is probably Sony's lowest entry level line. Yet, it boasts smart features, network connectivity, a smattering of calibration options, and even 3 HDMI ports. I'll break down various criticial points about the TV below, but if you are a lazy reader: then my summary is that if you are looking for a 60" TV, aren't demanding about the latest 120 or 240 hz options, and aren't ready to commit to an expensive XBR-grade type TV, then this is the one to buy. BRAND: Sony Rating: 4/5 Stars Sony has gone through alot of ups and downs (mostly downs). One thing that it does have going for it is that in general, their quality control is more consistent and their products tend to have gone through a bit more quality assurance than competing brands. However, the bar is generally pretty low for most consumer electronics in these areas to begin with anyway so take that with a grain of salt. For example, having owned many Samsung products, their interfaces are slow and unfriendly and confusing, and you will not even always guarantee to get the same product (google: Samsung panel lottery) BUILD QUALITY Rating: 4/5 Stars Beautiful thin bezel (but not the thinnest out there), and stand that seems a bit flimsy but in reality is pretty sturdy. Nice remote that isn't too cluttered. Light enough that I could set it up on my own without any help. Doesn't have a lot of heft to it. Built in Mexico - probably at a PRC or ROC owned plant, but thankfully with Sony specifications. No dead pixels, no banding, pretty even lighting, great job! INPUTS/OUTPUTS Rating: 3.5/5 Stars 3 HDMI ports is great. But a RCA out for audio (or digital) is a bit weak. I would expect a standard L/R RCA output as well. It does offer a HDMI. with audio return channel for those who have the right receivers. No DVI or VGA inputs. VIDEO & SOUND QUALITY Rating: 4.25/5 Stars I think this one deserved more than 4 stars, but obviously not amongst the best panels out there. The blacks are DEEP black - blackest I've seen among many panels. Vibrant colors. Using a computer to connect to the panel via HDMI, i felt the text quality was not perfect despite calibrating the TV (which helped things greatly) and the computer's anti-aliasing output. Some panels just work great with computers right out of the box - this one doesn't. This panel requires a bit of configuring to get around the fact that very dark greys and blacks are hard to distinguish. After calibration things are better, I feel there may be a bit more room for improvement with further tinkering - but overall I think the panel could have done itself some favors by having much better default settings. It's a bit delicate to get the right balance on this panel to not get overwehlming blacks versus overpowering brightness/whites. Audio quality is fine for a tv panel. RESPONSE TIME/GAMING Rating: 4.5/5 Stars Response time in normal mode is definitely over 100ms. I can feel this based on the response of the mouse cursor when hooked up to a PC. Switching on Game mode for both PC and PS4 turns response times into respectable times (some have measured it to be in the 30-45ms range). VALUE Rating: 5/5 Stars This is a pretty full featured TV. The only place where things fall apart a bit is the confusion around 60/120/240 hertz and motionflow with this panel. I'm not sure anyone really knows exactly what is going on with this panel and its refresh rates. Luckily, I am not a fan of the smooth soap opera effect so I have not experimented with it much. When watching film, there is something beautiful about 24p that makes it cinematic. Sports: well, I don't watch much of that but other reviews have said that the panel is fine with motionflow turned on. At this price point and the quality that you're getting overall , can't really go too wrong.

Good looking TV, Great Picture Quality

Let me start by saying that I am no expert in TV reviewing. The set that I was using prior was about 5 yrs old 40 inch CCFL back lit Sony TV. And this feels like an UPGRADE. I think all things are relative. I have not compared the picture quality to a high end TV. I am not sure if this is a 60 Hz or 120 Hz TV. The Sony site claims it to be a 120 Hz refresh rate. But I will leave the discussion to the purists. Out of the box the TV looks expensive. Does not look like a cheap TV sitting in your living room. People are going to ask how much you got the TV for! Picture: is amazing. For a 650 dollar TV I was not expecting the picture quality to be so good. The colors look well saturated. The Blacks are deep. The lighting is uniform. I did not notice any light bleeding around the edges. There are only 3 picture modes to choose from: Vivid, Standard and Custom. You can go in and change the individual settings and there is an advanced settings option, where you can go in and change things like gamma, contrast enhancer etc. I hope somebody will post settings from their calibration online soon. Input: has 3 HDMI inputs, an optical output, RF in, analog audio out, 2 USB inputs. Viewing angle: It is good. The colors do start to fade slightly after being about 30-40 degrees off the center. However, I can get a decent viewing from my kitchen which is about 140 degrees. Sound: I did not test the sound much as I had a sound bar. But the sound was ok. Speech was clear. Smart TV functionality: Did not test other apps but the Netflix app works pretty good. It is fast, responsive and functional. Not to mention, the BestBuy’s Service was great. The guys who came in to deliver the TV were great. They took out the TV, fixed the stand and put it on the TV table. They waited until I confirmed that the TV was in working order and I was satisfied with the TV. I think this is a steal for 650 dollars. There may be better TV deals out there but this sure was worth my money. Watching the House of Cards and am enjoying it.

I wanted to upgrade from my 51' Samsung Plasma Smart 3D tv, primarily because plasma's have a glare issue and our new home has lots of windows. Did tons of research online and settled on the 60" Vizio E-600i-B3. Got to the store and then saw this Sony Bravia 60" for the SAME low price. I then had a decision to make. I tried to do a quick search for this Sony on my phone however i could not find a single review, reason being was this model is fairly new (august 2014) i didnt know what to do, the sales people were helpless honestly. ALL the SPECS lined up to a T! Both TVS offered the same features, nothing on the featurs list seperated the two. I decided to go with the brand name of SONY. I have now had the TV for a week and i absolutely love it!! Great sleek look, beautiful Bessel. The picture out of the box was already a upgrade over my plasma. Already pleased with the picture, it even improved since!! Got better as the days went on, guess it breaks itself in. My primary use of this tv is sports and gaming with my PS4. I ABSOLUTELY recommend this for any gamer or sports fan! My wife also says this tv makes here daytime soap characters look like they are going to jump out of the TV HAHAHA!!

This is my first LED Smart TV and first Sony TV product. The price was too good to pass up, compared to other brands marked at the same price. I replaced my 50" Samsung plasma which is suffering screen burns that leaves a purple haze. The picture quality is great but it's what you expect from Sony. You see a crisp detail and contrast. The Motionflow XR240 offers smooth movements, clear life-like motion. The audio sounds is as great as it looks. I'm surprised at how much Bass it has. Not that I'll use it, since it will be connected with me sound system. But, its good to know that it is packed with good speakers, where you don't have to crank up the volume just to hear. Now on to the Smart TV. You can access the Sony Entertainment Network apps. It does have some apps and games, just don't expect the same apps as you would see on mobile. You do get the NETFLIX and VUDU service. Accessing the Netflix app is fast with a dedicated Netflix button on the Remote Control. And for those who has DirecTV, I will let you in on a little secret that I am happy about. This particular LED TV has a built-in feature setting called RVU. What this means is that this TV is a DirecTV Ready TV. You can eliminate your receiver and save you money.Just call DirecTV for more info. Overall, this is an excellent LED Smart TV for the price. You get great crisp picture quality and sound. I would recommend this for those who is new in Smart TV that is on a budget.

Good thing that i did not listen to those who complained that this is just a 60 hz TV. I cant really confirm but i dont care. All i know is the color tones are perfect, vibrant, sharp and image depth looks like 3D. Does not need tweaking or calibration, perfect image already out of the box. Latest Netflix movies are showing like near blu-ray quality, No blurring watching sports events like what others claim, they probably got a defective one or exaggerating the issue. Unlike the others, I actually like the soap opera effect when you turn on the MotionFlow , but you can of course turn it off if you dont . Its even better than the other 60" model i got from Sony months back (more than 1000) where i thought was already perfect. Experience with this TV is so great that i feel like I grabbed a black Friday doorbuster for the price and quality. Only complain is the apps does not contain amazon prime streaming . When i tried to do a software update hoping to get it, i got a network error. I called Sony support and i was informed that since this is a new model, there is no software update available yet causing the error. I hope they will include that app soon. This is my 5th Sony unit but this is the best price value i have so far.

Great Picture When Settings Are Right! Here's Mine

    Posted

It took me a few days to get the settings just right and what a difference it makes! I'm not using game mode since it greys out some of the settings from being adjusted. The picture is rich in color with deep contrast range. I found that turning on Live Color (low setting) and turning Gamma down to -2 made a huge difference too. If you don't want to ruin the settings you already have, try them on another input since each one can have its own separate settings. I'm not seeing motion blur or a tail on the end of the football in sports (mainly because motionflow and cinemotion are off and the scene selection is sports). I've found that everything looks good with these settings whether I'm watching movies, sports or video files via DLNA. Like most LCD/LED screens these days, optimum viewing angle is limited to about 30 degrees to either side before you notice the picture washing out. This is different from my old 2007 Sony S series flat screen which has about a 50 degree angle of acceptable view. If you can catch this TV on sale like I did, it's totally worth it. KDL60R510 VIDEO SETTINGS (scene select - sports) backlight - 4 picture - 80 brightness - 50 color - 48 hue - 0 sharpness - (to taste) color temp - neutral noise reduction - medium mpeg noise reduction - off motionflow - off cinemotion - off IN ADVANCED SETTINGS: adv. contrast enhancer - off black corrector - off gamma - minus 2 clear white - off live color - low led motion - off

    Exceptional Value 5*

Rarely will I pull the trigger on a television without seeing it on display. However, with the SONY KDL60R510A I am not disappointed. TV is a solid, 1080p TV. Very thin bezel. Stand seems a little wonky but works well. Loaded up Avatar to get a look at the color accuracy and sharpness out of the box, and it was great. To look at the dark scenes out of the box, I loaded up the Game of Thrones Blu-Rays. Fantastic picture quality and a huge screen size, and great value. In terms of the TV not being a true 120hz set, that shouldn't diminish it's quality OR deem it a 1* television. Clearly that reviewer is misguided. I watched a college football replay on cable in HD and it was great handling fast motion scenes. Personally, the 60hz mode with all the motion turned off looks the best to me for movies. With some calibration, this TV will truly shine. At 650-900 cost, this TV provides exceptional value. Gaming was great as well. Sony released this TV in August of 2014, so it is rather new.

I purchased this TV before Black Friday for $650. I had read many reviews and decided for the price this fits the criteria. We wanted a smart TV, with 120 hz and 55-60" screen. I waited a couple of days to do this review because I wanted to actually try it out. The purchase and pickup at BestBuy was simple. I was very happy with that. It had to stay hidden until Christmas (which was the hard part). I pulled out the TV a few days before Christmas when my son wasnt home to hook it up and test it out with our systems and to make sure it worked. It only took a little while to get it hooked up to our Xbox , cable and Netflix. The remote is easy to use and It's easy to switch between the inputs. I'm very excited about that. Our previous TV wasnt quite as easy. This TV does have 3 HDMI ports, so that is enough for us since we dont need the extra port for the Roku now. The hardest part of the set up was remembering my Netflix password. The sound is ample. I have no complaints there. The TV picture itself is gorgeous, no complaints there either. Recently I linked my TV to YouTube on my computer so I could search youtube for videos to watch on the tv. I LOVE that feature, as my son and I like to cuddle up and watch funny videos on youtube. Now we can do it on our tv. Overall I am VEYR happy with this TV. It was everything we were looking for. We have played Xbox and Wii U on it and both have worked great. No ghosting, not complaints at all. I have not adjusted the display or sound. It's good enough out of the box. Maybe we will adjust it as we try new features with it. I hope you have as positive of an experience as we did with this TV.

I was worried about going to an LED set after enjoying the excellent picture a Plasma provides but my fears have been put to rest. With some tweaking, the picture quality on this Sony is spectacular. Very good black levels, no motion issues. None of the problems I kept hearing about. And this 60 inch set seems huge compared to my old 50 inch Samsung. You have to be willing to experiment to get the right combination of color and contrast and sharpness that you want. But this TV provides all the control you need. Seems a lot sharper than my old Sammy, even with the larger size. Colors really pop (too much on standard settings but that can be toned down). Best Buy price matched WalMart price, which was $100 cheaper -- making this set the bargain of the Century, especially with free delivery (also excellent). I was going to go for a 4K set but ultimately decided this Sony was the better way to go for now. The 1080p LED sets are now mature technology. 4K sets are not. They will be much cheaper and probably much better in a few years. I'll look at them again at that time.

hi, I bring this tv 3 weeks ago... tv looks good and yes i do have issues with it for picture quality but with few settings its now much more better. And those who feel blur or anything like that, its wrong. First coz of picture quality i purchase another samsung tv un55h6400, its a 3D tv, I compare both tv's side by side... guess what, no difference in picture quality.. i played 1080p, no difference...720p no difference...480p..little but acceptable difference, samsung was better. So, still if you guys have issues it might be coz you watch very low quality videos... some have issues that there is no AV out... why you guys need AV-out when they provide auxiliary 3.5mm which is universal now.... i know AV-out is good option but aux is better too... whatelse, trail in football match, please change your settings to standard or game... it will be better.... only worse thing, browsing is tooooo slow, my internet speed is 45 mbps but still feel lag, this is the only thing i dont like.... and rest is upto you guys, coz of the comments i bring another good tv, its same, i bring just coz of bad reviews but those bad reviews are wrong for me now, re-think about it, dont go for reviews(even mine) if you like it.

Purchased the TV today, when I unpacked it there were only small bolts in what appeared to be the wall mounting space. It says online that it is not wall mountable but in the manual there are wall mounting suggestions. I thought all TV's were wall mountable. The spacing seemed to fit my brackets but probably didnt get anymore than 3-4 threads into the bolt hole. I decided to go ahead and hang it, if it falls it falls. A large earthquake may bring it down but It seems to be pretty solid. I am a sports fan so the first thing I did was find a game. Thats how I define good or bad. It passed with flying colors, football and basketball. I had a 50 inch plasma and went up to the 60 inch. You cant beat the price and the picture is nice. I dont use the sound on it because I have a Bose sound system.

Earlier I bought a sony smart 50 inch 4k 3d tv for our living room which is fantastic no complaints at all. I wanted to upgrade the one in the family room downstairs but didn't want to spend the 1300 dollars I did on the one upstairs. I stopped by walmart and saw this sony priced at 748, wrote down the model number and went to best buy to see if they would price match which they did with no problem. . The only problem I have with this tv is the limited number of inputs for older equipment not supplied with hdmi hookups ie dvd player. first I bought a converter with an A & B switch depending if I wanted to dvd or play wii, that got old after a while so I bought a bluray player for 79.99 with the hdmi hookup and and very happy with the way it functions. I had the tv delivered directly to my home where the delivery team un crated it, attached the stand and set it on my stand that I used on the replaced tv. Did all of the basic hookups and were out the door in 15 minutes. I have done nothing to the picture because it needs nothing done and the quality is equal to the one I paid 1300 dollars for upstairs. By the way did I mention the delivery was free of charge. I have nothing but praise for this tv.

I chose this TV after having the Vizio 55 inch m series for about a month. With the vizio I was constantly adjusting picture settings for each different source and many times throughout the program I was watching just to get the picture quality correct. After an month I returned the tv and was prepared to buy a Samsung 7150 but they were out of stock, I kept checking back and never received the 7150 in stock. I offered to pay for the tv so I can get the sale price and then call me when it arrives but they would not allow me to do this. I checked back again to see if tv had arrived and found out it went up $400.00. Now it was out of my price range. Very disappointing!! After talking to the BestBuy sales reps, they leaned me towards the Sony 60R510A. I brought the tv home and set it up that night. The picture quality is very good!! I have to change picture settings very seldom to get the picture perfect. Usually between standard TV to DVD to Netflix. I wish the tv had more apps, especially for my Spotify music. Overall the tv is a great buy at $799.00. Refresh rate is very good even for 120hz. Good solid black levels and white levels. I would recommend this TV for the money.

I read tons of reviews and searched for a lot of information before purchasing this TV. Before anything, there was a confusion about the refresh rate of this TV and I can confirm that is 120hz with emulation of 240hz, so it definitely has the SOAP OPERA effect, but when you switch to a gaming device, (I own a PS4) it immediately detects that is a game console and it disables the effect so that way you won't have any lag when you play your games. 3 HDMI inputs, component, antenna, 1 USB, it is very complete, Cable box one input, Chromecast another and PS4 on the last one, the only reason why I keep my Chromecast and don't use the full smart part of this TV is cause it doesn't have HULU, it has all you need, games, netflix, youtube, but lacks of HULU support, that is the very ONLY bad thing I have to say about this great product, whoever says there is something wrong with the screen is that they probably don't know how to configure it. Thank you SONY for such an amazing product!

for less than $700, I can't imagine you can get an LED TV this size. Setup was so easy as well as connecting to the internet. The dedicated Netflix button on the remote was a great addition. The picture quality is excellent. Watched Breaking Bad on Netflix and some of the gorgeous sky/ desert scenes really popped out and were amazing. Setting up your personal preferences is easy and there are a decent number of preset scenes for this price point. For example, we like using "cinema" at night to have the settings dim for night viewing without feeling like we are in the spotlight. We aren't using a sound system yet, but the sound is pretty good. Volume very loud, just a quarter of the way up the volume control. My local store is sold out and no wonder. We are so happy we bought this one.

I am very happy with this model, like anything out of the box the settings need to get tweaked per the room it is placed in. Ya the sound it a bit tinney but last i checked one does not purchase a flat LED for it's auditory qualities. So if your in the market for a new TV make sure you have some coin budgeted for a sound bar, sound plate or a surround setup. With that being said, i have had nothing but compliments from this Unit, the picture is wonderful, i have it set up in a fairly well lit room with east facing windows and i have no issues. I am not too familiar with the HDMI MHL port but i am very happy with it because i have my Amazon fire stick in that port and the sony remote offers almost full functionality of the Amazon Fire Stick remote with out having to do or program anything, Very cool in my book. I did purchase this TV on a gamble as it was not on display at the time i purchased it the week before Thanksgiving as its sale price was very tempting. I am very glad i took the gamble, and knowing what i know now i would have gladly pay its retail price. Cheers!

I went to bestbuy looking to buy a Samsung or LG 55-65inch TV and walked away with a Sony. The samsungs were vivid and bright but I wanted a more realistic look, LG is known for that and I was planning on getting a model. The one I decided on was $1,000 on sale 60inch model, at the top of my budget. Found out all the best buys around were sold out of this model! I was about to leave when the salesman asked me if I'd be interested in a Sony. Of course, who wouldn't be?! Great brand, high quality and performance, but usually not in my price range. This tv was not on the floor anymore but they had just a few left in stock. I was skeptical to buy it without seeing it in action first, but I read reviews online and the price (on sale for $750) was awesome. This freed up money that allowed me to buy a Sony soundbar as well. Took it home, set it up, no issues and great performance. Looks great using my Xbox one, love it! Best bang for the buck for those average people not wanting to drop a few grand on 4k tvs. Btw this IS a native 120hz tv.

Purchased this television the weekend before Black Friday. Ordered from an associate inside the store in Highland, Indiana who was very helpful in setting up delivery since the store was out of product. The television had great color and great clarity. Hooked up to a Sony Blu Ray player to check out movies and films made decades ago look great. People who came over on Thanksgiving were amazed how great the tv looked and how little I paid for it. People who reviewed product and said that the clarity was bad obviously didn't adjust not only settings on the tv but their blu ray player and cable/satellite as well. Would definitely purchase another one if they were still on sale.

Went in looking for a 55" Panasonic LED, but ended buying this instead. Definitely an upgrade for 5" more in size and being a Sony, it was a steal at $799. Comes with 3 HDMI inputs which is good considering many similar TVs in this price range only have 2. Picture quality is excellent so far. Definitely better than my previous Samsung LCD. Settings are easy to setup and so far I've had no issues with motion blurring on regular programming. I'm not a gamer so couldn't tell you if it's good for them or not. Definitely works well in dimly lit rooms or with shades drawn. Would definitely recommend! Hard to beat the price for the features you get.
