    Fantastic Picture

I have had this TV for several days now; Fantastic picture; DIRECTV upscaling is wonderful. 4K content from Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime is really nice. A couple of faults; the frame, due to its thinness is prone to slight bending, i.e., doesn't effect the picture at all, but is there on some screens (i can just about notice it on mine). 3D is basically un-watchable on this unit (cross-talk), not a deal breaker; hopefully, there will be a firmware update from Sony. I have an older AVR (high end) which doesn't pass a 4k signal, so I have to use Optical Out back to my AVR for 4k streaming audio (4k video is thru a cat5 LAN connected to 930D). As of now, Amazon Prime App only puts out a PCM 2.0 signal (Netflix App is DD 5.1, works fine)...so hopefully that's another situation Sony can fix.....All in all, satisfied at the moment....but a lot depends on how soon/ or whether Sony will take care of the issues I cited.

I have been searching for a 4K TV for what seems like an incredibly long time. I really was looking at the LG OLED but the 2015 models did not have HDR and the 2016 models were way out of my price range. The low end 4K models were lacking a lot of features like 3D. This model has all the features, and DirecTV 4K built in (still need service and a Genie of course). The picture is stunning .Watching a baseball game in 4K (on DirecTV) or even a 4K Netflix show is quite an experience. I know many have reported 3D issues, but I have not seen that. I am using a Sony BDP 3D player with Sony 3D glasses and while the 3D isn't going to be the reason to buy the set, it certainly seems functional to me. I have an Apple TV and a Roku 4, but since this is an Android TV , you may not need many of these devices. (you can cast your iphone movies, but I'd stick with the Apple TV). The Sony remote included DOES control Apple TV which is nice. I did have an issue with DirecTV because when you use built in , you are actually running an "app" rather than going to an input like HDMI 2, and that app has crashed. It restarts the app automatically and works fine after that. I have been very pleased with this TV and the Magnolia staff that set it up for me. Not a small investment, but a great TV.

Solid TV, don't love the frame

PROS: -Great blacks -Super bright screen with little to no glare. This was the seller to me over the 850D and Vizio p65 I was also considering. -Up-scaling in phenomenal. Even steaming garbage 480 stuff looks decent. Definitely a winner over the other brands available. -Built in Android is nice. I don't use it because I previously had purchased a Nvidia Shield, but it's nice to have an upgradable platform. Interface can be a bit laggy though. CONS: -I hate the TV frame. It is very thin, but even when hanging it on the wall I was scared of bending and shattering the screen. -Sony provides VERSA mount spacers, but the holes to mount the TV are very low, so much I had to re-drill my mount on the wall so the TV wouldn't be so high. If you have an existing wall mount, be sure to take a look at the back of the Sony before purchase. -Speaking of VERSA mounts, the TV is heavy, and I really feel like it should have M8 screws instead of M6. I honestly don't feel 100% confident in the TV hanging on the wall. I want to take it down and re-evaluate, but back to the previous point, I don't want to bend the TV in the process. -The picture can be cloudy on a totally gray screen. Not a real world issue, but the grays aren't as uniform as the blacks. -Price is high unless you get it on sale. At full retail I think the 850D is a better deal. Be sure to watch out for a sound bar combo deal and scoop up a HT-NT5 in the process. Looking at the new 930E it appears the fixed the frame issue. If you're budget is high I would consider the E over the D just for that reason.

I've had a 54" Panasonic Plasma P54VT25 for the last 5 years. I figured it was time to upgrade to a 4K hdr. I thought nothing would compare to the black contrast that my old tv can dish out. You here so much about light bleeding and light black areas where they appear almost grey. It makes you not want to even purchase a tv. I've done research on the different brands. Also, had friends telling me about Samsung and LG on how good they are. It's getting harder and harder to decide which tv to get because they're all good. But I can say without a doubt, this TV eliminated any concerns that I had. The black areas on the screen are very dark and phenomenal. I watch scary movies all the time and every scary movie out there has some type of dark setting. Sony has outdone themselves. The picture quality is superb. The android system is easy to navigate. The tv has so many pros. I can tell you that I will be a Sony customer and fan from now on. Thanks for making a great tv. Oh, also I purchased a second Sony TV for my game room to go with my PS4 Pro.

This TV is most likely the best I've ever had. and I've own probably 5 various Sony TV's before. In fact I was planning on buying the LG new 2016 OLED, same price but what a difference: The Pro's: 65 inches of slimline TV ,Ultra HD (4K), 3D with amazing built in Speakers. Added their best Sound Bar, Sub-woofer and two Satellite wireless speakers and I'm in Movie, music and Surround Sound heaven. High Dynamic Range and refresh rate of 960Hz generate a life like picture that can be tweaked from Default to Home Cinema to Cinema Pro and even present a Plasma TV like picture. ( I personal prefer the Home Cinema). Action movies, Sports are clear with no wash out effect or with it- YOU decide. Many Built in or Downloadable apps, like Netflix, Pandora, YouTube, Spotify, HULU, Google Play, Amazone movies, and so many more. All accessible with a touch of a button or with a voice command. No Dead pixels and better: NO pixalation at all. even from a close range. Viewing angle of 180 degrees. Great Sony Customer Service. I was lucky enough to buy a it on sale with Free Sony Slim Wall Bracket and 4 Free Downloadable 4K Movies on the Ultra App by Sony. Cones: None You can get the LG OLED, a truly amazing TV, BUT: dead pixels will appear. No Dynamic range, Refresh rate of 120-240Hz and mediocre speakers and sound bar. and for the same price you get a better picture overall Sony 65" TV Vs 55" OLED. I compare the two TV's side by side and Sony came on top. ( I've waited almost a month to write this review)

TV needed very little adjustment out of the box to have an excellent picture. The RVU functionality of this TV is great with DirecTV service. Overall the TV looks very nice and is very slim which makes for nice wall mount options. The only slightly negative aspect of this TV is the remote. For a smart TV it is a very basic remote.

My longtime professional display calibrator recommended the 930D as the best purchase right now -- my old DLP died -- and he was spot on. Colors are excellent, brightness is in the top 10% of all high end sets, motion is not an issue, screen reflectivity is low, and upscaling is the best I've seen at any price.

I had a SHARP Q+ 60' which was top of the SHARP line 2 years ago. I purchased this TV because I wanted to see what 4K was all about. To be honest, I didn't see much of a difference at first. But then I did some research and configured the visual settings for the best cinematic experience. 1080p movies are upconverted to be slightly sharper but true 4k content is ridiculous! The more I watched it, the more it grew on me. *A SURPRISE BONUS* I have a SAMSUNG HW-F550 sound bar and WOW! The sound was so much better than wth the SHARP. I didn't pay attention to it at first but the SONY 65930D has some sound chip in it. That chip makes a huge difference in sound quality, especially when watching 4K content. I really feel like I'm in a movie theatre. Cons: The TV is not very bright when calibrated for maximum cinematic viewing. Its best viewed when dark. The TV stand sits too short for my sound bar. Its just an annoyance. Doesn't support Dolby HDR (but it supports the other HDR) Pros. Best Picture before OLED. Sound chip. Great contrast ratio, again its the best before OLED. Refresh rate is great.

I will start by saying this tv is awesome has a built in chromecast. The upscaling in this tv is the best I've seen i bought the samsung ks9000 which is supposedly alot better. The 4k did have a very minor edge but hd directv and streaming looked blurry when the source was like 720p. So i returned it and this Sony blows the sammy out the water. Whatever your watching with it's great upscaling hd channels look clear and crisp almost 4k. Overall this is a better tv had more features and video settings than the samsung

Best overall TV I found to replace my plasma

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I had a Panasonic plasma 60GT50 that had to be replaced due to screen burn. I got a credit toward a new TV because I had the warranty through Best Buy. I tried the Sony 850D, but was dis-satisfied with the blacks and sound. I tried the LG OLED, but the processor was terrible compared to the Sony and the picture had either way too much judder or motion blur no matter what setting I tried. I finally ended up with the Sony 930D and am much happier. I read reviews with people saying they got damaged TV's. My TV was packaged really well, it even had more internal cardboard and foam compared to the 850D and the LG. My frame was perfectly straight out of the box. I actually kept it upright while mounting the bracket to the back and made sure to hold it from the bottom when attaching it to the wall to make sure to not put any undue strain on the frame since it was an issue some people were having, but all is well. The blacks are not as good as OLED or Plasma, but they are much better than the 850D. The two Sony's look close in the store, but in a dark room there is a huge difference - trust me because I have had both in the same den watching the same shows. The 930D does have some blooming, but its really only noticeable when you are seeing credits role on a black screen or if it's a dark scene and you have a white logo in the corner from whatever network you are watching. When there is content on the screen I do not see any blooming. The 850D's blacks would glow during dark scenes like a computer monitor with a black screen, but you can tell its on from the glow. The 930D, even though it can't turn off individual pixels like plasma or oled, does a much better job at dimming the sections of the screen that need to be darker which makes shows like Game of Thrones, Gotham, The Arrow etc look much better. Sony also definitely has the superior processor in today's market. I am not a fan of the motion smoothing, I hate the soap opera effect that happens when motion smoothing settings are too high, but also don't want a juddery picture. The Sony does a good enough job to almost leave the motion smoothing off all together, but I found a preset called "Clear" that I really like. It takes all the judder, if there is any to begin with, out of the picture, but doesn't give it the overly smooth cartoon look. Right now I have the TV picture on standard, brightness on 35, with active dimming and dynamic contrast on high and then the motion smoother on clear and the cinemotion on low and I am happy with the picture. I left some of the other stuff on auto and changed the sound to cinema and do not have to change picture settings regardless of content. One thing to note is you have to change the settings initially on each input because they can have different setting for different sources. The sound on this TV seems better than the 850D, but I still watch all movies with surround sound for maximum effect. The android operating system can lag every once in a while, but it's fine and I like being able to access my google music playlists and stream them from the TV through the surround sound without having to hook up my ipod or phone to anything. Overall I think this is the best TV in regards to a balance of picture quality and features and I am happy with my purchase. I guess the third time was the charm in this case.

    Absolutely stunning

After a remodel project I wanted to upgrade my TV to something more cutting edge. I went to Best Buy and surveyed the products on display and, with the help of the sales staff, got a pretty good understanding of the state of technology for high end TV's. Still it took another year and a round of product refreshes before I jumped. My biggest concern was that even having a 4k TV wouldn't yield any better viewing experience when coupled with my DISH cable box; it can only be as good as the input coming in right? Plus to watch actual 4K DVD's requires the addition of an upgraded 4K DVD player to the tune of about another $225. That costs wasn't so much the problem as are the costs of the DVD's themselves, (~$30/ea), and most the tiles are junk - I wouldn't pay a matinee price to see them. Fast forward. I purchased this TV and I have to say I never looked back. It's stunning. I can watch 4K content from Netflix and it feels like I'm looking through pane of glass at the actors in front of me. The image is so life-like it's amazing. Plus, the TV has some technology in it that even makes old black & white broadcast more life like. It's eerie. Of course the TV is now $600 less than what I paid for it which makes it even more compelling. Connecting this to my home theater system proved to be a bit of a challenge as this TV comes with Android TV which has loads of content available (VUDU, Netflex, HULU... the list goes on. In order to view this AND listen to it through your AV receiver you'll need to connect the two components together using a new, 4K compatible HDMI cable, connected to the HDMI ports labeled "ARC" on TV and AMP. It's only this cable and port combination that allows for the signal to travel -bi-bidirectionally between the TV and the AMP. It's a tricky set up as the through this cable, the TV and AMP need to establish a "hand-shake" where they both see one another. I connected my TV to a Sony STR DN1050 which I thought would be a no-brainer both being SONY products. Still it took an hour on the phone with level 2 tech support to get it to work. (Secret: On the AMP input labeled TV, make sure it's input mode is set to "Auto" not "analog". Once we made this change then unplugged the HDMI cable, and both components, waited two minutes and connected things up in the right sequence, everything worked as promised.

Bought xbr65x930d to replace my old Panasonic plasma. Went into Bestbuy to get a Vizio "P" series because of full array backlight. When in store the Vizio couldn't compare to this Sony in picture quality /color/and contrast. Even thought the Sony isn't full array blacks are inky black. And imho is better then the plasma. Glad I saw the Sony before I purchased the new set.

Just purchased this tv and it is absolutely fantastic. I heard that the first production run had problems. 3D and curvature of the screen. I saw this with my own eyes. One set was curved at the top and one had multiple waves across the top. All I can say is I have my Sony xbr65x930d fed with a Samsung HDR.4k player going into a Marantz 6010 reciever for a 5.1.4 atmos system. The picture and sound are incredible using uhd, blu-Ray, cable and PlayStation. Also I have an xbr5 1080p 8 year old Sony that has a picture like I bought it yesterday. Keep up the good work Sony. Also like to thank Ian and the delivery guys at Best Buy (magnolia ) for all there hard work. There the best. Life is good!

I will start out by saying i have been looking forward to buying this TV for a long time, so when it arrived I was very excited, It took me a good 3 hours to get it out of the box and hung on the wall, and when when i turned on the TV for the first time I wanted to scream, The TV did not work right out of the box I was so mad, I had just wasted 3 hours of my time getting this thing ready to play, I had never had a problem with a Sony TV before and i have 5 other ones, so i called Sony and after getting cut off on the first 3 calls i finally reached someone and after explaining the problem I was switched to some other support person but there were not there so now i have to wait to talk to someone until the nest day which i was not happy about, so i spent another few hours trying to figure out what was happening with this TV, when i turned the tv on 4 round icons would appear on the screen and then all that woud happen is the red led on the bottom would flash in intervals of three flashes at a time, so after all that i decided i had enough and took everything down re boxed it and thankfully my neighbor had a pickup truck so i could return the TV to best buy and get another one, and thankfully they had 1 left. Now on to the positive part of my review, this TV is outstanding it has a great picture better than my sony 850b tv and everything works great the only thing i didn't like was that the instructions or lack there of, the instructions don't tell you very much info on how everything works or how to set everything up on this set, also i was told i would get a bonus offer for some free HDR movies but i didn't get anything when i filled out the bonus offer on the TV it would have been nice considering how much i spent on this television. So in conclusion as far as the tv it self goes i couldn't ask for better, everything else not so much, but i will still give the TV 5 stars because the TV deserves it maybe 2 for everything else....
