    Samsung Killer

Anyone that's looking for a phenomenal picture especially native 4K HDR content and superior build quality, look no further. I exchanged the Samsung 65KS8000 due to picture defects (Best Buy customer service is excellent!) and instead of going with another one, I pulled the trigger and spent a little more for this georgeous set and couldn't be happier. I use to strictly buy Sony products and switched to Samsung years ago, but will now be back to Sony for good. You just can't beat there quality. I use it mostly for gaming on the PS4 Pro and will say the input lag while decent could be improved on. You would think that the industries gaming leader would have the best latency, but that nod goes to Samsung this year. That would be the only thing I could think of if I had to nit pick and I hope Sony improves it with a firmware update soon. It's not a reason to pass up this amazing set though and still give it 5 stars. Comparing the Samsung I returned to this set is like comparing a Kia to a BMW as far as fit and finish is concerned. Nice job again Sony and let's get a firmware update to accommodate the awesome PS4 Pro.

Tv is good, has great color, good backlighting, great upscaling and very good 4K performance. Two gripes, one, no way to shut off volume indicator when using an external receiver. This causes the volume display to overlap the receiver volume display. It is annoying. Two, on black backgrounds, it does have some light bleed. Otherwise, a great tv!

I never write reviews but this tv is worth the time. Do yourself a favor and buy this tv, change settings to cinema pro with tru cinema motion, turn up the xtended dynamic range and prepare to be amazed. We have been streaming The Man in the High Castle (shot in 4K) on Amazon and the lighting will leave you speechless. I also did a lot of research on OLED and the reason you go with Sony is for the motion processing that gives you no judder. There may be some minor light blooming if you turn the XDR up but to me this looks more realistic than the super high contrast of the OLED. This is the only knock on edge lit LED screens like this one and Sony found a way to master it with the slim backlight drive where you'll get brightness that is greatly better than the OLED and black levels that come very close (but with more detail). Got a 65" for roughly the same price as the 55" LG EF9500. Only con is the extra weight you might put on for not wanting to get off the couch.

Great overall TV viewing experience after adjusting some picture settings using the Custom format. Returned a 55 inch LG EG 9600 to have a larger TV and HDMI 2.0a inputs for a similar price and am not disappointed at all in the quality of picture this Sony produces in comparison. It upscales digital HD cable well and blu-rays look great. Looking forward to what Ultra HD programming and DVD'S have in store in the near future.

    Best option other than OLED

Best overall TV that isn't a OLED. It was either this or the 55" LG OLED TV. This TV was $2700 the 55" OLED was $2999. The 65" OLED were around $3999+. This TV has by far the best dark/black that isn't OLED. I replaced a Samsung 60" inch 7000 series with this TV. Reason for ungrading was for the HDR. Paired this TV with the Samsung 4k (HDR) blueray player...works great together. I have seen reviews talking about the bends on the frame etc. I guess I was one of the luck ones no bends and no light bleeding (perfect unit so far). I was so eyeing the LG 65" inch 8500 series which was around $1000 cheaper and also support both HDR and Dolby HDR, but I was placing this TV in a dark/small room and the LG/Samsung LED TVs do give of some light bleeding on the sides. Overall if YOU want a 65" inch TV and want a TV that gives great Dark/Blacks without breaking the bank I would say go with this...or you can wait for the OLED to drop in pricing. Seeing how black friday and the holidays are right around the corner. If you do decide to go with this TV make sure you inspect the TV for bending on the frame.

    Exceptionally awesome! except 3d

I first purchased the Sony Bravia 750D but shortly returned it due to lack of brightness. My living room has a lot of natural light coming in which is important for our newborn baby. I exchanged the 750D with this 65" 930D after much research. This TV is spectacular! to those short of time, here is a quick glance of my impression for this TV PROS: - Its very bright! My living room has large windows facing opposite to the screen and the TV is potentially a mirror when turned off. however the TV's brightness can fight through the reflections making it an awesome TV both day and night -speaking of night, black levels are superb. Like I said, its not OLED quality but very very close. in a pitch black room, blacks are still deep blacks. -the way this TV upscales 1080p content is amazing! lets face it, theres still limited 4K content out there but the TV does an amazing job making full HD content close to looking like 4K. it even simulates HDR to non-HDR content! -Ive never had a voice enabled remote before. the voice command control is pretty accurate. my four year old neice was able to stream "My Little Pony" from the home menu to hulu just by using the voice remote. -its DirecTV ready! if you have Direct TV you can setup the TV to receive your shows without a receiver. -unlike the sony 750D, all HDMI ports supports HDR content straight from the box (although it needs to be enabled on settings) -HDR performance is amazing! bright scenes are extra bright! scenes that showed the sky and sun is so bright that on full brightness you would have to squint (not recommended but its an impressive feat) while dark scenes remain dark. the contrast here is amazing. CONS - the 3D. I purchased this TV as an upgrade from my Samsung 2010 3DTV. I still have quite an extensive collection of 3D blu-rays so I wanted a TV that could still put them to use.the 3D here is "so so" on this model. there are some crosstalk but to me its still very watchable. a lot of reviewers say it unwatchable and I purchased this tv already knowing that and I was prepared to be very disappointed, but when I tried it out myself, its actually not that bad! I've noticed the crosstalk between left and right eye becomes less and less frequent the longer you use it. I watched Captain America Civil War in 3D and after around 40 minutes the crosstalk seemed to become less apparent as the movie progresses.Still, hopefully this issues gets resolved through firmware update. The TV also DOES NOT COME WITH ANY 3D GLASSES at all. you'd have to purchase them separately. -the speakers are bad... its probably the worst feature from this TV. Everything sounds like its coming out from a metal can. but its not an issue if you have external speakers hooked to it. I have mine connected to a 5.1 surround system so I'm good. Still, they could've done better here. - the remote is hard to navigate without constantly looking. everything feels rubbery and hard to make out the buttons by feeling them alone. I would've preferred a backlit remote than this. the voice commands are a nice touch though. Overall I gave it five stars because the pros really outshines the cons. Sure 3d is bad, but that not a daily use thing. Sound is easily remedied with a good sound bar or surround setup and remote problems can be solved if you have a universal remote that you already familiar and love.

    Great Tv

What can I say, this tv is awesome. Right out the box, with no adjustments at all the picture was fantastic. Beautiful rich colors, amazing clarity and one the best upscaling processors i've seen yet. I've had the newest 4k tv from Panasonic, sent it back for picture defects. I also went all out and purchased an LG OLED 4K thinking this has to be the ultimate because of the infinite black levels and rich colors. WRONG, picture was actually too black and splotchy in certain scenes. So I sent it back. I did some more research and found that SONY had developed some new technology for it's backlighting and claimed they could just about reach OLED like blacks. I said ok, i'll give SONY another chance even though the last SONY LED Tv I bought didn't have very good black levels. So glad I bought this tv, lots of cool features, the voice search using the remote is awesome, you can literally ask the tv anything and it finds the info really fast and boom it's on screen. Great streaming apps and services. The sound I must say isn't very good, i'm going to buy a sound bar. But for picture quality, the HDR is superb especially when I play HDR 4k movies on my Samsung 4K Blu-ray, stunning. And with excellent use of the Google Android browser this tv is well worth the money.

    Fantastic TV

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I did my research well before hand to try and figure out the best bang for my buck, desired features, screen size, etc. Went to the store to see the various TVs in person along with my wife and talked with sales associates on a couple occasions before pushing go on purchasing this fantastic TV. I had hoped to go bigger than what used to be my current 65" TV, as bigger is always better(!), but the terrific quality and features (and sale price) of this TV won me over. Out of the box it was sort of so-so, but I knew that I would have to tweak settings for all the various options through the TV, such as colors, brightness, black levels, and so on in order to get to where I wanted it for a picture. I didn't think it would be as exhausting of a weekend as it ended up being, but to be fair I also bought a new receiver for the 4K output and other upgrades to my surround setup. Once tweaked, newest firmware downloaded, then it felt like a proper upgrade to my now previous favorite TV, which was an awesome 65" Panasonic Plasma. My reason for the upgrade from my Plasma was to get rid of the mirror effect that plasmas can have, it was time to move on. In certain lighting conditions it made it difficult on my old plasma to watch darkly lit shows (even with the plasma's lighting/brightness turned up), shows such as X-Files, Stranger Things, Marvel shows, and even in videogames that had darkly lit areas. Plasmas do great colors and black levels, but it still made it hard to watch certain content and play certain games. Thankfully, this Sony TV does blacks and colors so well that darkly lit movies, Stranger Things, and so on look awesome! I have not used the 3D on this TV, so I can't speak to how well that works. I've used the TV speakers a couple of times to see how they sound, otherwise I have a great surround sound system to compliment the TV nicely. The TV speakers didn't sound horrible as I was expecting after reading other reviews that bash them so much, but it could be that my expectations were set low because of others complaining about the speakers in reviews. I'd say they would do fine if somebody didn't expect something beyond TV speakers. The 4K content looks great. Upscale works nicely on content that's not 4K. No soap opera or judder effects thanks to the great features on this TV, which makes me very happy and helps transition me from my Plasma to an LED TV. That means movies, fast paced shows, and sports look great. Can't quite get my PS4 to upscale from 1080p to 4K, but I'm guessing that's probably (hopefully) due to it being an original PS4. I certainly tried so many things to see what exactly the issue was as I thought it would still upscale like other pieces of my hardware do through my receiver or TV (tried swapping inputs, cords, etc.), but oh well 1080p does look very nice on this still. Perhaps a PS4 Pro (hopefully Red Dead Redemption 2 makes use of the Pro hardware and features) will show up in my future or hopefully if Sony puts out an even newer version of the PS4 (can I get one with a 4K blu-ray player in it, please Sony?) out in the future that may be something that I end up purchasing. My Wii U upscales to 4K just fine, so I'm psyched to see how my Nintendo Switch (Zelda - Breath of the Wild will have never looked better) ends up looking. 1080p looks great on this TV anyways, so even if you don't upscale content on this TV it looks great. Yes, it's not an OLED, but unless you have an OLED then you won't quite have the same picture as an OLED. Not quite fair to compare the two TV types. Outside of an OLED or spending lots, lots more beyond the price for this TV, this is your best bang for your buck. Best Buy had a great sale on this TV before the Super Bowl that made it hard to pass up. If that sale might not have been in place, I might have gone with the Samsung equivalent, which sounds like it's also great. My final thoughts - this TV is awesome; it does all that I want for many situations of TV viewing, content, upscaling, deep black levels, very superb colors. If you're on the market for quite the upgrade and this is in your pricepoint, then I highly recommend it.

I agree with the many above average reviews and new look which is so much better than the last two year's "retro" styling along with the footed stand that no one cared for! The picture quality is really good with most content, however as most of the professional reviewers have published, even though Sony now has "Slim Backlight Drive", a new process for zoning/directing light w/o Full-Array LED Backlights, it could be better. As Sony puts it, "Slim Backlight Drive, is similar to the quality of a Full-Array LED backlight". I'm not convinced that with LCD TV's, Sony or any manufacturer can equal the picture quality of a Full-Array LED Backlit TV with any other lighting technology, especially on a large 65" size screen!! It's still just a fancy hybrid Edge-Lit TV! After discussing this with several local professionals who mostly agreed Sony should have stopped at 55" or offered a flagship 65" with Full-Array since the Full-Array 75X940D" is just too large and expensive for most living rooms! Please tell us that Sony will be bringing out a 65X940D with TRUE FULL-ARRAY because while the extra bright looped content at the stores looks great, when watching cable, Dish, Blu-ray at home, you can see the difference, especially at the top and corners of the screen on multiple sets owned by friends and family. No offense, but when I recommend this set, it's because in spite of it's backlight shortcomings, I like it and would up the rating by half a star if I could, plus many people are totally unaware of these types of issues, and don't know Edge Lit vs. Full-Array and because Sony smokes most anything out there!! Also, have been at this for a while and currently have five Sony XBR's to compare with.

I've only had this TV since Saturday but the picture quality and colors blow me away!!!! I've never seen a better picture ever on a TV I'm very happy with my purchase I hope I stay that way. I did read a review that the TV bends I hope mine doesn't but I'm not going to worry about that as I bought the 2 year warranty with Best Buy and they are the best warranty you can have better than the manufacturer. I would never buy a TV of this price from anywhere but Best Buy.

I was planning to buy another brand of 4K/HDR television, but the I asked the sales associate at Magnolia (who'd helped me on other home theater projects) if he had any other suggestions. He pointed me to this unit, and I'm glad he did. The picture quality is amazing, whether it's a 4K BluRay, streaming content from Amazon, or live television. It looks beautiful on the wall - the bezel-less design is really nice. My only problem was the directions on how to use it with a standard wall-mount. The directions are very unclear on this - in one section, they say only to use Sony's mount, but if you read a little further on, you can find where they say where to take out screws and put in mount-compatible screws. Very confusing instructions, but once I figured it out, the rest was really easy.

I purchased this television at the magnolia at my local best buy and i can overall say its great. Looks better than the other high end models. Have read there are 3D issues with the 65 inch model but I don't plan on using them. I was short one screw for the base so I had to get a similar one at the hardware store. I will update if there are any problems in the future.

We love this TV. It replaced a 55" sharp that we had in the same space. Not only is the picture on it more outstanding that we could have hoped for but the dogs, and no I'm not kidding, the dogs even come running in and see what's on when they hear something that catches their ears. The ARC channel is great, Netflix audio pumps back into my Sony AVR, everything integrates very nicely. The only complainant would be the remote, in that there is no back lighting on it. So in dim room its hard for the novice to negotiate with it.

As long as you don't use the Google Android TV features and use another external device for streaming or TV, the picture is beautiful. However, the Android TV apps hang and crash regularly. No updates or patches are available. The TV needs to be rebooted each time I use Android TV which takes several minutes. I have had this TV for a week and cannot get the apps to work reliably and the microphone has never worked. Buy it for the picture not the built in apps or voice control.

We had the St. Cloud Geek Squad install the set/sound bar/and hook up of other equipment. They called in advance to make sure we would be home. Arrived on time. Hung the TV on our old stand, and had everything working shortly. Explained and demonstrated how to use set/remote. Answered all our questions. Unlike many other Geek Squad reports at other locations - this crew was excellent. I thought the Sony operating manual needed improvement. Print is small in the manual, and not enough detailed on some of the operations. I seldom believe in any extended warranties - but for less than $7 bucks a month for the 5 year warranty - took the gamble and bought it. All the equipment is performing above our expectations. Just hope it works as well as our last Sony set it replaced.

I received this yesterday after an in store visit to view a different TV (LG). I was impressed at the quality of the image, very close to OLED quality (blacks are very deep). I had not read the reviews and when I did I was sad to read that the 3D image quality is mediocre (very noticeable cross talk). No matter the source material the issue is very prominent (despite what Sony says). So I would recommend this for its 4K image quality (do read up on good settings for it) but do be aware that if 3D quality is high on your list you should consider something else.

    Great 4k HDR TV

I researched and read reviews on this and the LG 65" OLED for many weeks before purchasing this TV. I also brought my own 4K content with me to the store to make sure the playing ground was even when reviewing both TVs myself. My gf's father also bought the LG OLED before i bought the Sony so I was able to mess around on the "competition" before making my purchase. Yes, the OLED is a great tv and the dark levels are unsurpassed. The main thing i noticed is that the darks on the OLED bled into the actual quality so much that dark scenes were so dark that you could not see detail in the dark areas. For example, in the Batman vs Superman, there are a few scenes were batman is in the shadows and with the LG you could not see the details of his suit against the darkness of the shadows. But, with the Sony, you could tell the difference between the darkness of the shadows and the dark greys/carbon fiber look of his suit. Also, the Sony TV's brights are almost double the brightness of the OLED. I believe the OLED only gets to 500-600 knits and the Sony gets to 1,000 knits of brightness. I also enjoy the android UI as I have an android based phone and the seamless screen casting between my TV and my Motorola Z Force phone is amazing. When trying to do so with the LG, I had many issues. Lastly, when reviewing these TV's in store, the differences in performance/quality were so small, and while i did enjoy the picture quality of the OLED, i could not bring myself to pay almost double the price for such a small difference in picture. (at the time of purchase, the Sony was 1999 and the OLED was 3299). Overall I am completely satisfied with the Sony and also their Rep that was in-store (Oak Park Store in OP, KS) was extremely knowledgeable. If you are on the fence with the two TV's and want to save the cash between the Sony and LG, you will not be disappointed in saving a little money with the Sony. Honestly, it's all up to the buyers eye and pocket book. The only con I had at the first few days with the TV was it froze a few times on me when first setting up but once I rebooted a few times and verified I had the up-to-date firmware, the TV has given me zero problems. Also, I did just see that Sony is releasing an OLED tv this year and I cannot wait to see them in stores (though i will not buy one, just excited to see them give LG some Competition in the OLED market). I also have an Xbox One S and once you change the HDMI output settings on the TV to "enhanced" from Standard, the TV gives you all green checkmarks for 4K gaming and TV experience. There are tutorials on Youtube if you need help setting up this.
