65” Sony A8H
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The set has an outstanding picture. The remote is disappearing for a Sony. It lacks a fine control to advance or reverse recorded video. The buttons are quite small, lack ergonomic feel and must be pushed with just the correct amount of pressure to insure recognition. On multiple occasions after being turned on the screen went black but would return for a couple of minutes only to repeat a couple of minutes later. When I asked Best Buy for assistance it took over 40 minutes of questions for them to provide zero assistance and to tell me to call Sony which I did. The tech support from Sony was the best support that I have ever received. Sony updated the software online and solved the issue in about 30 minutes.

Great TV
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As far as picture quality goes, I don't have any complains. The panel is top notch while Sony's excellent processing provides another real-life quality improvement. Motion smoothing doesn't leave any obvious artifact, while upscaling works just as you would expect. If it’s in your budget, you should totally consider it.

Excellent TV
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent color and clarity. Upscaling of 1080 content looks better than on my 1080 Panasonic plasma. Sony's App performance is quick and the ones I have used are excellent in appearance. Have been using Firestick to stream (so all TVs in the household operate the same) and have no issues. Can not give too much feedback on sound as I use an AVR and surround speakers, but the TVs speakers sounded OK when I experienced them during setup. Overall very happy.

Panel is LG, but Android OS puts it on top.
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I absolutely love this TV, I also have a 77" LG CX running at 120hz+. I would say the colors are a bit better with the A8H, but the lack of 120hz is a bummer. The sound is better that the LG, but the panel is made by LG, so the quality is definitely dependant on Sony's software implementation of Android OS, which is miles and miles away better than LGs WebOS.

Almost there..
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great tv, android platform works like butter and so far after a month of usage the tv has ran very nicely...only issue I have is that despite having speakers embedded in the screen itself just like other competitor TVs you can’t use tv as part of the center sound channel while connected to the soundbar..similar to what samsung and Lg have. Which is insane, being how, the tech is already there..why would they not include it. Also little nitpick, tv does not support HD sound through Bluetooth..which is also odd. So if you’re planning on using headphones at night then u might have to invest in an external Bluetooth device that supports all sound codecs or get a decent soundbar with Bluetooth in it. And the biggest thing..it doesn’t have HDMI 2.1..I thought it did..and didn’t realize it until after I bought it. I don’t know how it’s going to affect my future usage of the tv..but it’s not there..so prolly can’t buy PS 5..Sony messed up here..I also bought a Sony sound bar with it, and because of whatever sound processing the soundbar has to do and the tv sound not running along with the soundbar, there’s a good 2-3 second lag in the sound and the video. I find it odd that in a tv with so much tech and at such a high price point..this would still be an issue..but here we are..most of these aren’t too bad of issues but you will notice them during you’re usage. The picture quality is excellent and it does have amazing color right out of the box. I hope this tv lasts me a while and keeps up with the tech upgrades as time passes. The build quality seems good..although because the screen is so fragile it seems like it’s gonna break on ya. And the back of the tv seems like it’s going to come off of the screen. The tv setup is very easy and not at all time consuming. And it definitely looks the part. But only time will tell if it works like a tv worth the money..

A8H compared to A9G and A8G
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love Sony their images are the best they came up with most of the technologies that other companies took and use. I have a 950g, A9G,A8G, and A8H. I’m comparing this to my A9G and A8G. The Sony A8H has much improved motion over the A9G, the A9G has constant artifacts around objects and chops with fast moving scenes it drives me crazy I hate it, if you don’t like the slightest amount of soap then disable that and just get a blurring image. I don’t really like doing anything but game on it. The A8G is the best motion with zero artifact or stutter and with added motion options you can get a very 3D depth look that’s amazing in movies, best I’ve ever seen. But the A8G lacks the brightness of the A9G. The A8G also has better color which gives me that wow factor but both have good tone mapping but the A9G seems to do a better job but not by much. compared to the A9G in gaming the X1 chip destroys the A8G Extreme chip in graphics with the new improvements to pixel contrast booster and object based super resolution. So now the A8H, a mix of both. it has good motion not as good as the A8G but a much improved over the A9G and is actually watchable. the transitions to black are amazing no more grey it’s amazing and because the blacks between colors are so good it gives off a 3D depth look just like the A8G does something the A9G can’t do. Color is also very good close to the A8G. The Picture adjustments on the A8H are annoying, I constantly accidentally escape out of it thinking I’m just going to the next field the A9G’s Adjustments are much easier to use the A8G is really slow but still easy. A8H has good highlights better than both the other two and helps with depth of the image. The A8H fails when it comes to tone mapping. I’m not sure if it’s cause Sony focused on low light elements to help with black transitions, but with my A9G and A8G I am wowed. Playing Spider-Man for PS4 the action scene when the lightening is all over the roof top can be blinding and very sharp flashes of light giving you that feeling of immersion. The A8H can not do that, it’s just like watching lightening on a post card, you can see it it’s their who cares let’s get to the next post card. It’s meh. The depth and 3D look playing the game on the other hand blew both A9G and A8G out of the water, it’s so good. The A8H TV was so good in all the other parts in making pictures look amazing but when it came to tone mapping I was let down. Maybe it’s cause my A9G is a 55” and my A8H is a 65”? If the tone mapping on the A8H was the same as the A9G this TV would be a home run. If this is your first OLED this won’t bother you it’s an amazing TV and the best you’ll get this year. But when you’ve had Sony’s that have the best tone mapping out of any company the A8H tone mapping let me down and I’m actually thinking about returning it. Hopefully there’s a update for this TV in the next week that fixes it or at least gives it more life. The remote on A8H is also very cheap feeling, it feels half the weight of my A9G’s and when I shake the A8H’s it rattles like cheap parts. The A9G’s is solid all around. I like Sony a lot but not a fan of some of the things the do with selling products. A8G and A8H remotes.... I like and don’t like the stand. I like that it’s snap in and no screws but I don’t like wide feet, center stands are always better as it gives you more options for placing it on something. I gave it 4 stars due to cheaping out on the remote, frustrating settings menu as I constantly change settings based on source and tone mapping since this tv has a higher peak brightness but doesn’t feel like with tone mapping. The A8G was the great because you had multiple picture modes and didn’t need to change settings based on hdr or sdr or animation old and new. I hope Sony gives us HDMI 2.1 full 48gps soon.

Excellent Choice
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We were trying to decide between the LG CX and this one and we are so happy that we went with the Sony. The 4K video quality is almost identical between the two but where the Sony really shines is in the upscaling that it performs for the 1080i signal from our DirecTV. It makes satellite TV look amazing. 65” is definitely the way to go and we also picked up the Sony sound bar for a superb total experience. You won’t be disappointed.

Beautiful! Cannot stop looking at it.
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The picture on the Sony A8H OLED is incredible. I was originally lusting after the LG GX OLED, but when I went into Best Buy I was captivated by the richness of the Sony's picture compared to the LG. So I was on the fence because the Sony looked so good, but the LG (which also looked great, just not *as* good) had HDMI 2.1 and an ATSC 3.0 (NextGen TV) tuner. Then the Sony went on a Prime Day price match sale, which made it $800 less than the LG, and at that point the Sony was a no-brainer. Now that I've got some of the settings dialed in, it is absolutely stunning. I recommend the following settings: Color Temperature = Warm Live Color = Low Reality Creation = Auto Random Noise Reduction = Auto Digital Noice Reduction = Auto Smooth Gradation = Low Motionflow Smoothness = 1* Motionflow Clearness = Min * = This smooths out the motion just enough without crossing into "soap opera effect" territory. Personally, I find the Standard picture mode to be the best under most circumstances, with Cinema or Custom better for some movies. I also recommend spending a little time configuring the Quick Settings bar so you have direct access to the settings you're most likely to adjust on occasion.

||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A year ago I bought the same TV in the 55” size. When I saw a sale price on the 65” I had to get it. . It’s absolutely the most brilliant picture. OLED screen has the deepest colors and blackest black. Super thin screen made installation in difficult situation no problem. Sony TV’s are the best.

Unrivaled Value
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have both worked and been involved in the home theater space for quite a while. I was interested in replacing my UN65JS9500 because I was unhappy with Samsung's "future-proof" support and products. I began looking for a replacement and quickly narrowed my search to the Sony 65" A8H and the LG 65" CX model. After weeks of pouring over reviews, spec sheets and in-store watching the choice became easy. On a whim one afternoon my girlfriend and I walked into a Magnolia store that I knew would have both on display. There we watched both sets and played with the smart features. She keenly noticed that both sets were on sale! I was able to get the CX for ~$2200 and the A8H for ~$1800. As we kept comparing the sets we could not distinguish and appreciable differences between them. The associate that was helping us alerted us to a unit that did not fit when it was delivered by the Geek Squad and had been returned. The new open-box A8H was only $1601.99! THE CHOICE WAS SIMPLE! After getting the TV home picture was even better without the overblown lighting of the store and comparison units on the HEET wall. After weeks of arduous, careful and detailed testing this could not have been an easier purchase!

Sony A8H brief review
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Picture is great. I like the thin design and the minimal border around the screen. Allows a larger screen TV to be mounted in a smaller wall area. No comment on the TV sound quality. Connected to surround sound system. Suggestion - Sony upgrade the firmware to allow the sound to transmit on the surround sound and headphones at the same time.

Upgrade from plasma tv to Sony 65" OLED TV
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First, I'd like to start by saying WOW! I upgraded from a 50 inch Plasma TV with 720 resolution. I'm not a gamer, mostly movies and cable TV. My main interest was high picture quality. My comments are with standard setup parameters. Colors are vibrant, great contrast, and the detail is incredible. We watched an animated film, Inside Out, and I saw detail that I did not noticed before. Off axis viewing is very good. The sound from the TV is pretty good, but I have it integrated into a home theater 5.1 sound system, which is much better. I'm using the eARC input to the Sony TV so when I'm streaming content from the TV apps, the sound is output to the home theater speakers. Setup was easy. All in all, a fantastic upgrade for us.

||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The oled display is unlike any thing I’ve seen. So far has been able to live up to the hype and performed quite well. One suggestion would be to make sure and match this tv with a good sound system to complete the full movie effect. Really like how easy setup with different devices is. I would say the interface works really well and the remote, outside of feeling slightly cheap, works really really well.

||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Enjoying this TV so far. Tough choice as I was comparing with LG CX but went with the Sony since I liked how the movies looked on this one. BluRays don't look that good on 65" but the AH8 does a good job of upscaling it. Casual gamer and I'm not too worried about lack of HDMI 2.1 as I believe most games (at least the ones I care) may still max out at 4K 60Hz for a few more years even with next gen console.
