Great Open-Box Purchase!

My bedroom TV (Samsung Q90R 65-inch) recently became defective so I was in the market for a new bedroom TV. The 65-inch TVs being considered were the Bravia 7, C4, G4, Q90D/Q95D, and QM8. I was heavily leaning towards the G4 (on sale for $1699.99 at the time) but I saw an open-box (excellent condition) Bravia 9 65-inch. I immediately went to the local Best Buy that had it and purchased it. Upon inspecting the box, there were both "good" and "excellent" open-box stickers so I was skeptical of its condition. Got it home, unboxed, and for the most part, mostly everything was there - the screws for the stand were missing and the back panel for the inputs is the incorrect size (I'm assuming the previous owner returned this to upsize to the larger Bravia 9). I reset the TV and setup everything and WOW, the picture is just amazing as I expected. This was my first open-box purchase at Best Buy and I'm okay with it though I'll be more careful next time (i.e. just because they say it's excellent condition doesn't necessarily mean that's the case). Anyways, I'm happy with my purchase and the open-box price was slightly above $1400+ for what was as $2699.99 ($300 off sale at the time) TV brand new. I highly recommend this.
Hi ForeverMeek2012, thank you for your positive feedback on the BRAVIA 9! We are thrilled to hear that you are impressed with the stunning picture quality. However, we apologize for the inconvenience caused by the missing screws and incorrect back panel. We appreciate your understanding and are glad it did not impact your overall satisfaction with the TV. We strive to ensure that even open-box items meet our high standards, and your feedback helps us improve our processes. Thank you for highly recommending our product and for choosing Sony. Enjoy your new TV! Gus

This tv is fantastic! Great contrast, amazing color, super bright! I think the reason sometimes you see people returning them is they don’t realize the settings need tweaking out of the box. You cannot just plug it in and it’s ready. If you go on RTINGS.com, they give you some great starting settings. This thing is a beast!
Thanks for the great review and the 5-stars rating! We are honored to hear that your Sony BRAVIA TV has been above excellence! With the great picture quality thanks to the Sony's XR Processor, which intelligently enhances every scene in real-time boosting color, contrast, and clarity and the amazing capacity to access billions of accurate real-world colors thanks to the XR Triluminos Pro!
Thanks for choosing Sony, have an amazing day! -DiegoV

Excellent Picture But Reflections Ruined It

I liked this TV very much, but I returned it. The picture was great, I was very happy with that aspect. The menus made sense and were easy to navigate.
Reasons why I returned it:
1. The main reason is that the glair is terrible. It isn't just that you can see a reflection, but ambient light will rainbow across the screen. We have one light in a different room that is usually on. The TV catches it and creates a rainbow across the entire screen. That is just one light. It picks up every light, window around the room and causes a rainbow across the screen. There is no way we could control it. We have had 5 other large screen TVs in the same exact location without a problem. With the Sony, it became unwatchable due to the rainbows it would cause.
2. The second reason was an annoying feature with the audio. Sometimes we will watch using the TV sound, such as night when others are sleeping. When watching movies or streaming, we watch using the optical audio out from the TV into a Denon 5.1 surround system. That all works, but the problem is for the TV to output 5.1 sound from the optical out, you must go through the menus and select it, which also turns off the TV speakers. Then when you want to use the TV sound, you have to do a bunch of clicks and searching to re-enable the TV sound, turning off the 5.1 sound. With my LG and Samsung TVs, that is not a problem. Those TVs allowed me to independently configure the optical out from the TV out. If you want to use external audio, just press the volume down on the TV and you are done. When you want to use TV sound, you would just turn up the volume. It is not that simple on the Sony. During the day, we had to go through the menus to use external audio, then at night go through all the menus again to use the TV audio.
It is kind of a shame because when I returned this I bought a comparable MiniLED TV from another brand and I liked the sony picture better. The TV I purchased instead does have the two problems I listed.
Hi Robert, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback with the Sony Bravia 9. We're sorry to hear about your issues with the reflections and audio output settings of this TV and it had to be returned. At Sony, customer satisfaction is our priority. We take all feedback seriously and use it to continuously improve our products. Please note: This TV is equipped with X-Wide Angle and X-Anti Reflection feature. With X-Anti Reflection™, pictures are clearer with less reflection and glare. X-Wide Angle™ keeps pictures looking as beautiful from the sides as they do from the center.
Hi FrancisW, Fabulous! We're extremely pleased to hear about your satisfaction with the amazing picture quality of your BRAVIA 9. Thank you so much for sharing your awesome experience with our product and for choosing Sony! - Romeo

I was in the market for an OLED TV and had my eye on LG's G4 and C4 for a long time. I read tons of articles and watched tons of videos about these two TVs and was ready to make a purchase probably on the C4. When I went to Bestbuy to look at their OLEDs, they had the Bravia 9 on display close by. I spent over an hour going back and forth trying to decide which picture I liked better. In the end, I thought the Bravia 9 had the right balance between being OLED-like with 4K content and having a very natural looking image with excellent detail handling. The only hesitation was the price, but Bestbuy had an open box 65" Bravia 9 in excellent condition with a price that I just couldn't pass up. No regrets at all about my purchase!
Hi PeterW, that's fantastic to hear! We feel privileged to know you chose the Sony - Bravia 9 and are absolutely loving the picture quality. It sounds like you really put in the research, so your insights are incredibly valuable. We completely agree that the Bravia 9 strikes that perfect balance, delivering an OLED-like experience with its incredibly deep blacks and contrast, while also maintaining Sony's signature natural and lifelike image processing. It's great you highlighted its excellent detail handling as well, that's something the Bravia 9 truly excels at, bringing out the nuances in all your 4K content. Thank you for choosing Sony! The Upgrade worth waiting for since 4K and NTSC 3!

Having been a Bravia user since 2009, the desire to upgrade to 4K was something I wanted for a while. However, the TV was still fully functional without complaints, save for being a 1080p Bravia from 2009...
This was the flagship from 2009.
This morning on April 1st, 2025...Another flagship comes to retire a still fully functional Sony Bravia. Specifically, the 65" variant of the Sony Bravia 9.
Feels like 2009 all over again. Needless to say, I hope it will last another 16 years or more like the older one. The image in the showroom was enough to convince me of three things:
1. The Mini LED Technology is even better than my Samsung Odyssey monitor I use with my computer. It's a 4K 28" mini LED.
2. The colors are so close to OLED that a casual user won't notice, but for blacks upon blacks within shadows of the highest color graded 4K UHD movies in cinema or professional modes against a $5,000.00 or more OLED panel.
3. It's been long enough to feel this upgrade is a quanrum leap forward instead of an incremental one, especially as I was waiting for a Sony Bravia to go fully capable 4K with ATSC 3.0 that finally has all the bugs sorted.
This is an upgrade which hopefully will outlive me. If you can't see the world, bring it to you.
What an incredible journey with your Bravia! It's amazing to hear how your 2009 model model has served you well, and now you're upgrading to such an advanced piece of tech. The 65" Bravia 9 with Mini LED sound like a perfect choice, especially with the quality you're describing. It's great to see how Sony's innovation continues to impress you. We hope this new model lasts just as long as your previous one and provides you with an unforgettable viewing experience for years to come. Enjoy the leap to 4K and all the new features. It sounds like you've made an amazing upgrade and thanks for choosing Sony! -Aldair

Fantastic TV, improved on my x900e in pretty much every way. Google TV is snappy, picture quality is fantastic. Handles a bright room well and the blacks are pitch black. Gaming features work well too. Definitely pricey but I wanted the PQ of OLED without the burn in risk and this pretty much delivered.
Hi Jnbrown925, Thank you for your fantastic review of the BRAVIA 9! We're thrilled to hear that it has significantly improved upon your previous X900E model. It's great to know that you find Google TV snappy and the picture quality fantastic, especially in bright rooms and with pitch-black blacks. We're also glad that the gaming features meet your expectations. While it is a pricey investment, we're delighted that it delivered the picture quality of OLED without the burn-in risk. Thanks for choosing Sony! -Sam

So we've had our new Bravia 9 for about a month now and absolutely love it. We replaced an older Sony Bravia and really loved the picture quality so we decided to stay with Sony. The picture is bright and clear regardless of your viewing angle. We added a Sony sound bar to it as well because like all flat panel televisions the rear speakers aren't great. I highly recommend the Bravia 9 it is spectacular.
Hi TonyF, Thank you for the positive review and congratulations on your new Sony Bravia 9! We're very pleased to hear that you love the peak brightness, beautiful picture from any angle with X-Wide Angle and X-Anti Reflection, and good to know you added a Sony soundbar for an immersive experience. We appreciate the recommendation and thanks for choosing Sony! -Sam

The Bravia 9 is a fantastic tv. I have the 65”. Geek Squad delivered and set everything up quickly. The picture quality is out of this world after you make a few adjustments in the picture settings. I found the Standard picture mode to be the sharpest and most natural. Also, turn off digital noise reduction and set reality creation to 80 for additional sharpening of the picture. My cable tv picture quality is very good (as good as cable can be on certain channels). Internal streaming apps also look magnificent and gaming picture quality is great. I actually had to turn the brightness down due to my sensitive eyes. Can’t go wrong with this tv.
Hi TechnoG57, this is a truly fantastic 5-star review, thank you for sharing your experience with the Sony - 65" BRAVIA 9! We're delighted to hear that you've unlocked stunningly vibrant picture quality through your careful adjustments and that you're seeing magnificent results across all your content, from cable to internal streaming and gaming.
Your detailed tips about Standard mode, disabling digital noise reduction, and adjusting Reality Creation are excellent and demonstrate how our users can truly customize their viewing. Thank you for choosing Sony! Best regards, -Dominick

The Bravia 9 is the best TV I have ever had. The Sony rep who was in the store the day I was buying a new TV guided me to this model based on my telling her it would be I'm my sun room. She recommended this model for its brightness. Even during the popular poorly lit night scenes of recent movies the TV presents a beautiful picture. I am also surprised that the sound is good.
Great! We're thrilled that you like the sound and picture quality of the TV. It's also great that you were assisted professionally. Thank you for choosing Sony!

The Bravia 9 65 inch is really nice set it’s extremely bright and clear, it handles Standard def very well without focus distortion or blurring. HD and 4 K content are exceptional . There are several settings to accommodate a variety of viewing preferences and integrated easily into my Denon 970H receiver which I had previously purchased a couple of weeks earlier on sale from Buy Buy at a very good sale price.
Hi DarrellH, Thank you for the awesome review! We're thrilled to hear that you are enjoying the exceptional brightness and clarity of the display, as well as its impressive handling of both Standard Definition and 4K content. It's great to know that the various settings have allowed you to tailor the viewing experience to your preferences and that the integration with your Denon 970H receiver was seamless. Thanks for choosing Sony! -Sam

Seems to be a good, solid TV with really good picture, clarity, and contrast. Only had it less than a month, so time will tell on longevity. Had a Samsung before this that lasted a few days less than two years. Hopefully, this lasts longer. I do wish customization was a little easier. User Interface is a little difficult. Too expensive unless on sale. Overall, I like it so far, though.
Thank you for the purchase and we're glad to hear that you like the picture quality of the Sony TV. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you for supporting Sony!

This is a step up from my Samsung Q9FN from 2018. That TV holds up surprisingly well, but the clarity, color, and black level on this is next-level. I've watched a few movies on it, and whether it's SDR, HDR, or Dolby Vision, everything looks very crisp and natural. I'm still getting used to Sony's motion handling, which every reviewer raves about but looks a little strange to me coming from the Samsung and LG. Still playing with those settings, but overall, great TV and very happy I finally upgraded. More like a 4.5 star review instead of 5 due to only 2 HDMI 2.1 inputs and the afformentioned motion handling. But the picture itself is gorgeous.
Thank you for your review of the K65XR90, MattyTooFace. We're glad to hear that you find this model to be a significant improvement over your previous Samsung Q9FN from 2018, especially in terms of clarity, color, and black level. Our team takes pride in delivering next-level picture quality, whether in SDR, HDR, or Dolby Vision formats.
Regarding your feedback on motion handling, it's worth noting that the X-Motion Clarity technology included in our TVs aims to enhance smoothness and reduce blur during fast-moving scenes. Users coming from different brand ecosystems, like Samsung and LG, may need to spend some time adjusting the settings to match their preferences. We recommend experimenting with the Motionflow and Cinemotion settings to find the combination that works best for you.
We appreciate your input on the HDMI 2.1 inputs and understand that two inputs might not suffice for all setups. We continue to gather customer feedback and strive to improve our products to meet the diverse needs of our users.
Overall, we are delighted that you are enjoying the enhanced picture quality and appreciate your honest rating and review. Your suggestions are invaluable for our continued improvement. Thank you for the opportunity to work with Sony products! Best, Gus

The 2024 sony bravia 9 is a good tv in terms of picture quality, details, performance, gaming, movies, has decent contrast and decent color gamut, but the brightness is very good(4,000 nits peak brightness), i only had it for a week and realized i prefer the best possible color and contrast with good enough brightness so i returned the bravia 9 and exchanged it for the amazing 2023 sony A95L, so now im the happy owner of the 2022 Sony A95K and the 2023 Sony A95L.
Hi TylerOC, Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate you highlighting the exceptional brightness and performance of our BRAVIA 9. We're disappointed to hear that the picture quality didn't meet your expectations and that you had to return it. We're glad you found the A95L a suitable replacement. Works great, nice improvement from the Bravia 900H it replaces. EXTREMELY bright, awesome picture. excellent with the PS5 pro, the extra brightness really helps when you turn on all the gaming features (vrr, allm, etc) where the 900H was fairly dim. Had a lot of trouble with the 900H's built in OTA tuner and this one is sadly on marginally better. But overall highly impressed with the picture and features. I use a soundbar with mine so comment on built in speakers. Expensive yes but worth it IMO.
It’s great to hear that the BRAVIA 9 is a significant step up for your PS5 Pro setup. We’re thrilled that the massive boost in brightness and the dedicated gaming features like VRR and ALLM are making a noticeable difference compared to your previous X900H. The BRAVIA 9 is our brightest 4K TV ever, and it's designed specifically to make HDR gaming pop.
Regarding the OTA tuner, we appreciate your feedback! If you’re seeing inconsistency, try going to Settings > Channels & Inputs > Channels > Cable/Antenna > Show/Hide Channels. Sometimes switching from a "NextGen" (ATSC 3.0) signal to the standard version of a channel can provide a more stable connection in certain areas.
We're glad that despite the tuner hurdles, the picture quality and performance made the investment worth it for you. Thank you for choosing Sony!

This TV was never supposed to replace an OLED, but it will give better shadow details and brightness that an OLED can never give you.
The sound is really good for it has but will still recommend getting a soundbar with a subwoofer to get better quality sound and theater like feel.

Love the TV and quality of the display. Set up was very straightforward and simple. A big improvement over prior smart TV setups.
Looking forward to many years of enjoyment.
Would be advantageous for Sony to sell the soundbar with the TV until they find a way to make the sound quality come up to speed.
Thank you so much for the fantastic feedback on your new BRAVIA 9! We're thrilled to hear that you love the TV's display quality and found the setup to be simple and straightforward.
We totally get your point about the sound. While the built-in speakers are a big step up, nothing quite beats the full experience of a dedicated soundbar and subwoofer. That's why we've designed our BRAVIA Theater soundbars to work seamlessly with the TV, using features like Acoustic Center Sync to make the TV's speakers part of the sound system.
Your suggestion about selling the TV with the soundbar is surely a great one, and we'll definitely share that with our team. We're always listening to feedback to improve our offerings!
