With that being said, the software could use improvement. I have a chromecast that runs the same software just as smooth if not smoother than this 1500$ TV. Hardware 4 stars Software 2 stars

Reset preferences after an update. Check all settings if you game and watch HDR, IMAX, and reset Xbox to Dolby Atmos.

terrific quality/adjustability - no Spectrum

I've had (still have) a 65" Samsung for a few years and have really loved it...the operating system and interface is super simple and works great, has all the apps I want and use, hardware integration is great, etc. HOWEVER...the one thing, really, that always bugged me, was I just. couldn't. get. it. bright enough. No amount of tweaking or settings would do it. So, I thought I'd shuffle that set to a kids' game room and take a chance on a new one as my primary. I've always loved Sony products. I knew that the Google TV operating system would be different, and really even with some reading had very little idea of just how different. It's quite different. One particular thing: I (among other streaming services) use Spectrum, and it's primarily been for sports stuff but also some network broadcasts for when my over the air signal maybe isn't fantastic. Google TV does NOT have a Spectrum app. I had no idea. For those of you that really want or need to use Spectrum channels, know this going in! I know Spectrum has their own hardware gadget which could easily be connected over HDMI or whatever, but I happened to have a reasonably new Apple TV box, which does have a Spectrum app, so it's just a couple more clicks for me to get it to work on this Sony. I don't love that. But it works. So beyond that, the Google TV interface...it's super complete and comprehensive. I mean, overly so. It's a lot, compared to the old Samsung OS. But once you get the hang, it's fine. I'm bothered by some ads for some kind of Crunchy something something gaming thing that I can't get rid of, and I hate that. But otherwise, yeah, the UX is...well, it's fine. The TV itself, the picture quality is fantastic. I don't know about sound/built in speakers, haven't even tried, it runs into a 5.1 system I have. I AM able to make enough tweaks to the screen settings to make it bright enough for my liking. Which basically...I start with a 'vivid' setting (which is WAY too colorful/contrasty/brash for my liking on most things) and then adjust it from there. Including some of the action settings to reduce that super ugly artifacting or whatever (looks like lossy jpeg compression, that kind of thing), anyway...yeah, you can smooth it all out. In the end, yes, I'm happy with this TV, the resolution, quality, sharpness, the blacks are fantastic (far better than my old set), I can adjust is as I wish, and I've worked out the Spectrum thing with another hardware piece.

The Spectrum TV app is currently not available for download on the Google Play Store of this TV. Aside from connection an HDMI device, you can also use your mobile device to cast Spectrum TV content from your smartphone to this TV using the built-in Chromecast feature. Replaced my plasma

After a few weeks of watching this it is comparable in picture clarity and overall fps. There are a couple settings that are better for movies, but we use most of the normal settings daily. The only downside is the speakers are kind of weak. Not an issue since we have a soundbar m, but they are fine for daily watching of most shows.
