Terrible screen uniformity, worse customer service
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was so excited to get this TV after reading many reviews and comparing all the specs with the LG C1. This one stood out as the movie watcher favorite. The picture is really great a portion of the time; however, there is a huge issue that ruins the whole experience. When watching content at night, there are two portions of the screen that are extremely off. There are two dark and reddish blobs that appear. It is extremely distracting and disappointing that a TV that cost me $2,000 has such terrible screen uniformity. You can re-create the issue by displaying solid grey images with varying white levels. In HDR and low light content the image is totally unacceptable. At times, in warm scenes the blobs turn a reddish brown. I contacted Sony support and their teams say this is within specification. I am extremely disappointed with my purchase and at a loss of what to do. I’ve wasted my money. I would not recommend this TV nor Sony for anyone considering a TV. Their customer service has been demeaning to work with.

Posted .Hi Frost,
We regret to hear that you are experiencing those issues with the A80J. The LCD screen is made with high-precision technology to achieve a high level of performance and picture quality. To achieve this level of performance, the backlight setting of the TV is set to maximize the screen brightness. However, you may notice uneven brightness on the TV when watching in a dark environment or when the screen is blank. This condition is normal and not a malfunction of the TV.
If you should find this affects your enjoyment, here are few adjustments that you can do to minimize this condition.
Note: Some TVs may not have some of the procedures below. If model-specific information is required to complete any of the steps, refer to your TV's manual.
-Reduce the Backlight Level in the Picture Settings menu.
-Turn the Light Sensor setting to On in the Setup menu.
-Change the Power Saving setting to Low or High in the Setup menu.
-Set the Picture Mode to Standard in the Settings menu.

Damage screen after 4 months.
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Tv has great colors and a very nice screen. But it didnt last more than 4 months. I just noticed a pixel line across the screen that is not working. Best buy return policy is 60 days so I have to go through Sony to get it fixed. For a 2200+ USD tv, it did not last long at all. BTW the tv was used 1-2 hrs per day at most over 4 months.

First OLED and NOT disappointed so far
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great TV. The picture quality is unbelievable! This is my first OLED and i'm stunned how clear and smooth the picture is. The blacks on the TV are next level. The Google TV UI is amazing and it is very smooth! I like it much better than the CX or C1. I was able to set up my entire TV with my Pixel 5! I am not a fan of TV speakers so I have my def tech 5.1 hooked up to it. The TV doesn't have bad sound but not the level I want it to be. It does support ATMOS however so that might be a plus for some... I have just never been a fan of in-built speakers. Also this TV comes equipped with 2 HDMI 2.1 ports. That is enough for me as I have one port consuming eARC functionality going to my Denon and the other is directly connected to my PS5. Some people may need more HDMI 2.1 but I'm ok with 2 for now but would like to see all ports to be 2.1 compatible, which eventually will happen I'm sure. It doesn't support VRR or ALLM yet... so hoping the firmware update comes sooner than later. Overall I'm pretty content with the TV. My use mostly mixed. I was lot of 4K movies it serves the purpose.

A80J 65”
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This TV is fantastic. This is my first OLED set after lusting after one for several years and I’m not sure why I waited so long! Granted, OLED isn’t for everyone with the risk for burn in but with my use case I wasn’t overly concerned. The good: -Blacks are prefect. Near blacks are good. There does seem to be a small amount of near black crushing but nothing too severe. -HDR peak brightness is great. Coming from a Sony 900e I was a little concerned if it would get bright enough. (Almost) no concerns. -Overall picture quality is fantastic. Out of the box, color accuracy (to my eye) is good and motion handling is superb. I do not believe that I’ve seen any banding issues either. Very great picture quality. -OS is good. Coming from the 900e this is a major upgrade. UI is snappy and there are few slowdowns. The Meh: -Screen coating is a semi gloss finish on the 55 and 65” models. Not sure why Sony did this and I wouldn’t say that it is necessarily better or worse, but it does have different advantages/disadvantages. The Bad: -SDR brightness leaves a little bit to be desired when viewing in daylight. This is probably a bad for most OLEDs. -Dark scenes look great in the dark. However, I have a kitchen window on the wall to the right of the tv about 20ft from the TV. Even with the blinds closed it creates a reflection that is very easily seen in dark scenes. I do not remember this being an issue with my old LED. Not sure if it’s more of a brightness issue or the semi gloss coating on the screen. -The A90J gets a better backlit remote. As expensive as this tv is you would think that it would get one too. -No VRR support as of this review. Sony has promised it with a future firmware update, but it remains to be seen if they follow through. -Only 2 HDMI 2.1 ports. Competing brands have 4. -I’m experiencing multiple lip sync issues with this set where my old one did not have any. This is probably due to my setup (older AVR plugged in via ARC) or a setting that missed, but I haven’t been able to get it nailed down and fixed. Overall, for me, the cons are worth dealing with for the amazing picture quality.

Wish they would have used roku instead of google tv . Also sometimes on youtube when you try to talk to search it glitches out . Besides that the tv is amazing . The oled is insane . Gets those deep blacks . Perfect for movies . This tv pairs perfect with the ps5 . It has 2 hdmi 2.1 ports. Pushing the ps5 to 120htz 4k if the game supports it . This tv also got an update for VRR . Sound quality is good . All around great tv . Would reccomend

Beautiful TV
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I replaced an old 44” Toshiba flat screen, at least 10 years old (still works), with this 65”. In my small living room (seating and tv are 10’ apart), the perspective is like sitting in the back row at the movies. It’s not excessively bright. Once in a blue moon, if there’s strobing lights in a scene on the screen, I have to cover my eyes. Packaging is an engineering wonder. Luckily my lack of reading the instructions in how to unpack it didn’t mess it up but it would’ve been easier if I had. It faces a window that gets indirect sun. Also, a lamp. It’s best if there’s not a light source opposite due to glare but it’s not a deal breaker. Blinds, curtains and shutting off the light works. Backlighting the tv really helps. The tv is amazing. So very thin and light. I have it set on a console with feet spread out in the widest setting (there’s choices). Very stable, though, if I had young ones in the house, I would either anchor or hang it, for safety sake. It’s a big TV. The image is superb. Can’t get any better in its price range. The colors are rich, the blacks, deep. Gaming is phenomenal in all ways. Movie night is absolutely cinematic. The sound… it blows my mind with how thin the screen is, with the full, rich, surround sound that comes from the surface, seemingly directly out of the person talking in the image. It’s a tad freaky, haha!! Fantastic! Google interface is not complicated. The remote is slim and easy to read. I wish it had more HDMI ports, especially when I get the atmos surround sound which uses the ARC HDMI, leaving 3 for TiVo, gaming units (XBox, PS, Switch) , etc. By the way, you can use the tv speakers as the front middle speaker in the surround sound set up. I highly recommend it!

Best Picture Ever
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've never been a Sony fan. The only Sony product that hasn't broke on me within a year was a PS3. So when I started looking for an OLED TV and did my research I narrowed it down to this and of course LG. Since I've had worse luck with LG products and their support has burned me multiple times, I took home the A80J. Actually my deciding factor was looking at them side by side, the Sony looked brighter and the salesperson confirmed that Sony will get brighter than the LG. Right out of the box this is the best looking TV I've ever seen! I've messed with the picture settings in the custom mode a bit but their default settings left me with not much to complain about. But if you wanted to mess with the picture settings there are a bunch to choose from! I'm a techie and they were overwhelming to me. But what I've found with having an OLED, and I may be different than everyone else, if I watch anything less than 4K resolution it doesn't look great on some modes. So I tweaked the custom mode for 1080 and below and everything looks great. Most of my streaming apps display in 4K so it's not much of an issue anyway. I was concerned about the burn in factor even though the salesperson said it shouldn't be an issue so to soothe my paranoia I purchased the Geek Squad protection for peace of mind. The TV itself is thin, I thought I was gonna break it just getting it outta the box but it's built pretty solid. Setup was easy (if you're an Android user) and the UI is pretty good if a little laggy at times, but that could be my internet too so I'm not gonna knock that. So, for now at least, I'm a Sony fan again! Expensive but worth it to me.

Posted .Hi IanMoone, Awesome! We're very grateful for this positive feedback. Organic LED displays (OLED) may experience image retention if an image is continuously displayed for a long period of time or the same image is repeatedly displayed. This is due to the characteristics of the materials used to achieve high-definition imaging. To protect your TV screen, avoid using images that may cause image retention. The good news is that we have steps to protect the TV screen from image retention as Pixel Shift and Panel Refresh are found within the TV settings. You made the right choice. With the BRAVIA XR A80J, you will enjoy a premium OLED picture with contrast and color that feels deep, natural, and real. Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ive had this thing for about a day now. Ive gotten it hooked up to my reciever and speakers. This thing has givin me no real issues. It’s absolutely stunning. The quality is bizzare topping both of my samsung LEDs and the dolby surround within the tv is phenomenal. Downloaded apps very quickly. The only downfall ive noticed is the bravia app is simply a joke. All of my other apps signed in and loaded quickly. This bravia app was very buggy and slow. Its had a few wifi issues here and there but my samsung did the same thing. Very good tv if your not impatient with minor wifi issues in the beginning. Also note, this was really easy to set up as im yonger and tech savy. But i can imagine my grandma would never figure out how to use this thing.

Excellent TV, recommended. But a few nitpicks.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Good: Definitely recommend purchasing this TV (got the 65"). The image is astounding, the best TV I have owned in my life. Being realistic of what is possible you can see the glare from bright windows seeing it sideways so it has to be installed facing a wall for better enjoyment. That said, I have a lamp installed next to my couch for night reading that I could not turn on when watching my old TV (a Sony xbr-49x800e, model 2017), with this TV I can turn on the lamp and the lamp is barely noticeable in the TV, great improvement. So maybe the anti-glare coat is optimized for front viewing. Anyway, impressed. The brightness is plenty for day or night. My friend who helped me install it told me he was a little bit dazzled with the whites in some OLED demo videos I played. I myself noticed it, very bright, awesome. On the other end, in a dark room, the image is bright, clear, and very comfortable. The not-so-good: Now I have some nitpicks and not-so-good experiences with the TV that bring the final to a 4. Still recommend as these may be edge cases, and not enough to make it not enjoyable. 1. Inputting text (Fixable IMO): I am in the iOS ecosystem so I have to type many passwords using the remote controller that is not the best experience. It would be nice if you could add an app (or iOS integration) to be able to type stuff with the phone. 2. Web browsing (fixable in SW, support apple remote (?)): I am happy that this TV has AirPlay, but there is no native way to have a usable web browser. Typing URLs is a bad experience with the remote. And mouse control is not smooth. AirPlay is a good enough workaround. But the limited native web experience means you need a second device to cast whatever you need to project. There are many alternative (and legal) video sites that do not have apps due to the close architecture of app stores so a good web browsing experience would be appreciated. 3. Headphones (fixable in SW): I use an Apple TV, but this new model seems to have everything you need to be able to stop using it. I sometimes watch TV early on the weekends and use Sony noise wireless cancellation headphones. I could not pair them with my old TV. I can pair them with this new one (nice, at last). But the sound is weird, it has a strange echo. I had to go back to my Apple TV for now as the sound with it is remarkably good. But I really want to explore the use of the Android TV directly and now I can only use it when I am not using the headphones. Maybe there is a setting I need to discover, but this should work best out of the box. No need to do any settings in the Apple TV to get great sound. 4. HDMI ports (not fixable, but consider for the updated model): I own a soundbar, Apple TV, and two video game consoles. Fair enough, I have 4 HDMI ports. But, this is a nitpick, it seems I only have one available HDMI 2.2 120Hz port as the other one goes to the bar. So I have to plug the consoles in two ports that are not enhanced for video games. This may be a misunderstanding on my part. The specs say the 4 ports are HDMI 2.2, but only 3 and 4 are labeled as 120Hz and some YouTube reviews indicate that only a competitor LG model has 4 ports that can handle high-end video game signals, but this one only has 3 and 4 (1 and 2 being of a lower spec).

Thanks for sharing your in-depth review and experience of the A80J TV. We're glad that you like the picture quality of the TV. Your feedback about inputting text, web browsing, and the HDMI ports is greatly appreciated.
For your issue with the Bluetooth headphones, try to pair again the Bluetooth headphones to the TV. Make sure to also try other sources from the TV when using the headphones. Performing a power reset may also help resolve the issue:
-Turn off the TV.
-Unplug the power cord for two minutes, and then plug it back in.

Better than I had hoped!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Having come from a Samsung KS8000 60" that I had for about 4 years, I was a little worried that I would be bothered by the lower brightness switching to OLED. I spent quite a lot of time at the store comparing the A80J and the A90J. That being said, I ended up with the A80J for the lower price as the brightness difference I found to be minimal and only noticeable when side by side with the two. Being able to watch content with true blacks and infinite contrast is a real treat, especially in the dark for that true cinematic / movie theater experience. The brightness works perfectly for me, and for OLED burn in I tend to just make sure if I step away from my TV for more than a minute I just use the Display Off function in the quick shortcut bar. I have noticed that when watching content with a lot of white it does dim a little, but those moments are very few and far in between. Additionally, I primarily watch TV in the evenings and at that time my room has very little direct sunlight, so OLED was the right choice to go with. My only 2 quirks with this TV are: - There are two small holes in the front. At first I thought it was for the Google Assistant, but it appears that the always-on Google Assistant is only available on the A80J in other countries except the USA! So they don't do anything :\ - The remote that it comes with is fine, but the A90J comes with a much nicer metal one that is backlit (the A80J isn't) and comes on automatically when picked up. You can buy that separately, or since it supports Bluetooth remotes, I would highly also recommend the remote that comes with the Chromecast with Google TV as it is much more compact. As I have it connected to a Samsung soundbar, I cannot say much about the speakers, but in my limited time before I got said soundbar, the speakers sounded "okay", but still event an entry level soundbar would be better. It is interesting that they do have the same synergy options when used with Sony soundbars like other brands (i.e., TV speakers help as center channel when used with soundbar).

Great TV

The picture is awesome and the colors are so accurate. I hooked up a soundbar and it feels like, I am in a movie theater. I liked this so much I bought a 55in for my den. My only complaint is the remote. It does not come with a lighted remote. I bought the lighted remote and all is good. Sony should include this especially when you are spending top dollar for the TV.

Love It

Deep blacks and vivid colors. Everything you want from an OLED. The reason I went Sony over Samsung or LG was because you have the option to run this as a monitor. This gives you the option to bypass the bloatware built into the TV if you want. So far I have mostly just used it with the included Google TV and it works fine, but nice to know I can upgrade if I want or get tired of being advertised to on a $2000 TV.

Great TV
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I went with the Sony Bravia A80J after seeing it side by side in the store compared to the QLED I originally went to buy AND because it was $400 off on sale. This is the first OLED/4K TV I have owned and I am very impressed with the picture and sound quality. I am also very happy with the ease of use when switching between apps, so much that I ditched the ROKU I had been using on my old TV. Set up was very simple, and it read my cable box with no issues, meaning it's very nice to able to do pretty much everything with the TV remote. The only complaint in that regard, and it's a small one, is the Sony remote does not have a corresponding "info" button for the cable box that displays the info on the show you are watching. Overall I recommend this TV to anyone looking to upgrade from an LCD or QLED TV. Please bear in mind the size of the box when transporting home. I measured everything carefully and the 65" was still about an inch and half too long to fit in the rear crew cab of our Dodge RAM. Luckily we had ratchet straps and the weather was nice enough to where we could transport it home strapped upright in the bed of the truck. A van or large size SUV is best choice for getting this one home.

Best TV Ever!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony XR-65-A80J is as perfect a TV as I had hoped it would be. The picture is amazing with great contrast and wide viewing angles. That was a must for me. It is brighter than the reviews would have you believe. I have a sliding glass door to the left of the TV and it does not seem too dim. The installation and set up was easy and the TV connected to my router easily. The color is impressive and streaming 4K is like being there in person. The only thing I would have liked is a better manual that explained all the TV settings. There is an online help button button it doesn't give you as much as it should with each setting. There is a short description along side of the TV settings as you scroll through the menus. The reviews for this TV all seem to say that this is very accurate right out of the box, unlike its equally priced competitors. Love this TV.
