Too Expensive, Doesn't Live Up To Price Point

For a Flagship TV and being a Sony I expected excellence not mediocrity. Where this 4K shines is in its vivid color depth and brightness, plus it does blacks better than previous LED sets with some exception and that is some dark areas turn from just black or pixelated grays like other sets to a dark green halo blotch, very annoying. Pros: Great deep colors. Bright display good in sunny rooms. Nice looking with decent cable management, hidden behind two pop-out panels on the back of the TV. Cons: Glossy screen so glare can be a problem with windows and sliding glass doors. Motion Halo's worst than older 4K's I've owned. Poor remote control, buttons not positive, direction keys get mixed up with functional surrounding keys. Poor menu and labeling for control buttons. Instead of selecting Menu you need to select Action Menu, Discover, Home, TV, and so on, not straight forward and very convoluted. Several Picture Modes but none worked well, needed to use Custom and calibrate TV to use with less annoyances. Sleep timer very difficult to find and use. Slow Menu system for an expensive TV. Sound bar systems, typical Sony very proprietary and only likes Sony Subs and sound systems. Very heavy for its size, due to the full array back-lighting. My biggest complaint on this TV is the motion control, or lack there of, and the artifacts it creates which I think is also responsible for the green halo blob I see in some dark scenes. If you have a trained eye this is a big deal. Getting around those issues this TV is great once calibrated I can achieve very nice blacks considering and the colors are superior on this set. I wouldn't recommend this TV based on price and its motion issues I would suggest a cheaper TV that almost does as well and wait until they get these issues figured out, either through new Tech or with a different delivery system.

Good picture after playing with settings but not that great for the money spent. Speakers are awful! In back of TV too so sound has to bounce of the wall to get to you.

    Patience Pays!

First off, patience pays off, but you need to get this TV now or very soon because it's been discontinued and only a limited amount are left. I've had my eye on this product since it came out, but thought the initial price tag was a little bit too steep. After waiting for the price drop, I decided it was time to invest into 4k. I can tell you it was worth the wait! The performance to price value is absolutely worth it now! I battled back and forth between 4k OLED and LED for years and finally just chose what I felt was best for me. I'm not going to bash OLED and say it's a bad technology, but it definitely does have drawbacks just like any other display tech out there, including LED. There is no perfect TV. This TV has the best HDR experience imo since it can get close enough for me, to the black levels of OLED, but have the huge advantage of getting those specular HDR highlights on the bright end. Plus even the thought of potential burn in on OLED, scared me off as I'm a gamer and want to be able to just enjoy a television and not baby it. Also, there is a misconception that this TV has bad motion and I can tell you, I'm a gamer and have not noticed such, so rest assured it is more than okay for gaming and fast motion. It also has an amazing upscaling, making all content look better, along with the most realistic colors. This TV is an absolute gem in terms of performance and an amazing value now with the price drop. If you were struggling with a decision and toiling like myself on what to do and worry about burn-in and the limitations/drawbacks of OLED, then you will be more than happy with getting this TV. Don't worry about the fact that this TV was released in 2016, as it is still is a top contender years later. It was ahead of its time and still an amazing television. Hope this helped in any way for others trying to decide.

I OWN the 75 inch Z9D which and still the best LED TV EVER MADE BETWEEN 2016 & 2021. it's still better than any LED That Sony, Samsung and lets not EVEN mention LG As far as Comparison's to OLEDS it beats OLEDS in almost every catigory except viewing angles which is not a deal breaker for me cause I watches my TV spot on. Look at Batman vs Superman scene in the warehouse. On the Z9D I can see all the graffiti on the wall whearas on the OLED it crushes the black's. The HDR AND THE SHADOW DETAILS ARE BETTER ON THE Z9D than the OLED. I also own 2 xbr55 930E's, In which by the way is the Best EDGE LIT TV'S EVER MADE and I also own the Xbr65 A9G and the xbr 55A8F which were all PROFESSIONALLY CALIBRATED BY THE GREAT KEVIN MILLER, one ofthe founders of ISF Calibrations and I met Miller at VALUE ELECTRONICS HDTV SHOOTOUT IN 2012. BEING that I own All of these Fantastic high end TV's by Sony of course I've done many comparisons from Netflix, VUDU, Prime Video and Hulu and I'm not somebody who doesn't own none of the TV's. I own ALL of THEM and the Blacks on the Z9D are very close and I mean very close to OLEDS and even looks better than OLED in a dark room cause the Z9D has the better shadow details and you can see the different shades of Black better on the Z9D and don't have to worry the the black's being crushed.

The picture quality is superb in any 4K content and the 3D 1080p/720p is also upscaled in 4k resolution. I love brightness and this tv it gets really, really bright and the black levels is great which is close to oled tvs. I like the design of the tv and build quality is great.

    OLED or TLED

Never thought I would be able to afford a Sony Z9D, thank you Sony. Like many couch pros out there, I was undecided between an the Z9D and an OLED. I viewed both side by side and yes the OLED can give slightly punchier colors and blacks but OLEDs still have a lot of problems with image retention, burn in and a few others. When I first turned the Z9D on, the picture amazed me and it wasnt even calibrated ! Adjustments were made to deepen blacks and turn the color up before firing up some reg 1080p movies, My jaw dropped while watching Star Trek beyond. The picture is every bit as vivid as an OLED. Sony uses Tri-luminous display technology and calibrated LEDs to make colors pop. Christmas Chronicles was amazing. Lots of dark scenes with eye popping holiday lights. Streaming is another strong point of the Z9D , I went on youtube and streamed some 4k videos, they were very clear and vibrant. Black levels are deep and blooming really isnt an issue Z9D. I dont think there is a better LED tv out there. Sonys TLED breaths new life into LED tvs.

Best LED/LCD ever made. No regrets.

We've had this TV for nearly 5 years now and it's as impressive now as when we got it. We also have an LG C9 65" and this compares favorably with OLED but with out burn-in risk. Picture quality is just amazing and great for gaming once you turn off all the processing features. It's awesome that most apps support Dolby Vision with it as well even if the HDMI port doesn't.

I don't understand how there are any left at this price! (Currently just less than two thou). The picture is as good or better than current OLEDs at this screen size. And it's brighter, with no "black crush".

I have had many LCD TVs over the past years and this is by far the best LCD TV ever made. This TV has the best black levels of any LCD TV I have ever seen very close to OLED but with the ability to too show shadow detail that the OLEDs crush. Bright as heck and the back lighting is the best ever. If you want the best LCD buy it before they are all gone.

Buy this thing while you can... Oled level blacks and superior white level. HDR performance is stunning and any content looks amazing. 5 stars does not do it justice. I am an employee and this is the best tv I have ever seen. This is the king of leds and will be remembered like the pioneer plasmas.

I had the first of the 4K TV's that was introduced to the market - obviously by the pioneers Sony back in 2013. At that time, it was my firm belief that there was or could not be anything better and I was true, till the HDR revolution. Then I bought the Sony Z9D series.....nothing can be better.

For the first two months the set performed well. Picture was great, sound could be better. Recommend secondary audio equipment. The 3D is okay, but the set does not have the simulated 3D like the 830B this set is replacing. After two months of great pictures While watching a movie, the picture went out. I can get sound through the speakers, the picture is just a blur of very dark greys and blacks. Sony products are not what they use to be.
