I had held off on upgrading my four year old Sony 60-inch set because let's face it, 1080p sets can still deliver excellent quality video often dependent on the source more than screen resolution. But once this set was offered on closeout, the temptation was just too much. I went back and forth between this LED technology and OLED, but comparisons in store weren't definitive and both looked great. OLED off center viewing is admittedly wider, but this one is pretty solid and difficult to fault unless you get way off to the side, and even then it's more viewable than many other models seemed to be. Plus the picture can get very bright without noticeable blooming visible on lesser quality screens. Despite being technically a 2-year-old model (they skipped the E model and went directly from D to F), the richness of the image for all practical purposes equals the newer models, and so far the film watching experience in UHD makes for a decided improvement over standard HD, even for upscaled Blu-rays. Native 4K images are so lifelike they look almost 3-D even without the glasses. Sad the newer models have dropped the 3-D feature from all manufacturers, and there are no native 3-D UHD discs. Picture settings were fine right out of the box, but I did a few tweaks as recommended by others in online reviews. Hoping for many years of satisfied movie watching on this set.

Great tv at this price point. Excellent picture with brightness and clarity only Sony can give. We have researched 4k for the last year and finally decided on this one. Having close to 100 3d blurays, that was an added bonus. Great upgrade from our old Sony.

This tv should still be made today only with a faster processor. Has a stunning picture is flawless with motion and has the best 3d of any tv made. Sony should put the 65” and 75” versions of this set back on the market with a cutting edge processor then call me so I can buy 2 of them. A set for now and a backup for 10 or 12 years down the road.

I did a lot of research and came across the Z9D model. Originally the TV costs over $7,000 with the 100 inch costing $59,999. Yes, sixty thousand dollars. I picked this one up on sale for $1,999 when the new model came out. It has amazing picture quality and blacks as well as OLED. Not pixel per pixel, but it has 640 individual zones because each LED is controlled separately allowing very good blacks with over 1,400 nits brightness. For $2k, it was a great price.

The best TV to buy in 2019. This TV came out in 2016, but it is still the best quality TV to buy. The picture has yet to be beat. And one of the biggest selling points for me is the 3d. It's the only 4k 3d TV available to purchase on this site, and once it's discontinued, there goes the home 3d technology for the time being. Although the 3d is amazing on this TV, there is a glitch with this TV, as I have research on several message boards, a lot of TV's have this issue. The 3d image is disjointed and there is lots of flickering when the glasses are in use. There is a quick fix for this though. Press the power button when the TV is on and hold if for 3 seconds and it will automatically do a quick update. After that update, the 3d is flawless. Other than that, this TV comes highly recommended.

The Sony XBR-65Z9D is an amazing TV. I spent many months reviewing the specs, reviews, and test reports of the top manufactures for a 65" TV. I thought i had it all figured out until i did a side by side comparison of picture quality for my final selection. The realistic true life color, depth of detail of the picture quality and the features sold the Sony unit. I am extremely satisfied with our purchase and am greatly enjoying the rich movie immersion experience in the comforts of my home.

The Z9D replaces the earlier 4K XBR 65 inch that I had from 2012. It was one of the first 4K TV to hit the market and the image of my first TV was absolutely superb. Going forward 6 years, I damaged my TV screen and had to replace. After looking at the options available, including the OLED by Sony, I felt the Z9D was a best option. Having used the TV for over 2 months, I am absolutely satisfied and convinced that it was the right decision. The quality and color of the picture’s are just too beautiful and very life like. There is no other TV for this cost that comes even close! The TV up converts images to UHD and UHD HDR source look unbelievably fantastic. The only one thing that I feel can be better is the remote. The design of the remote seems almost like an after thought. But I can live with it.....

So far, this TV has worked and looked great. It has a nice, bright picture with many adjustments that can be made to it. The 3D aspect is outstanding. If you have an older model Sony 3DTV that came with Active glasses, they will work on this TV; as well. You just have to sync it with the TV. The only thing I don't like is that it's only 120 hertz refresh rate for the Motionflow. I don't know why they can't put 240 or higher on a 4KTV. It doesn't make sense to me. Sony claims that you don't need anything higher than 120 on a 4KTV. Yeah, if the signal is 4K. But, as of now, 99.99 percent of the TV signals are in 1080P and 240 hertz refresh rate would surely help. This TV has a type of "booster" for this issue. But, even so, I've noticed that having a true 240 refresh rate seems to do the job a little better. Overall, it's a great TV and thank God that Sony is still making this 2016 model in 2018 (and hopefully, beyond) so those of us who still wish to view our 3D movies can do so. Upgrade the Refresh Rate and this TV would be perfect.

As someone who is in the Professional Audio/Video industry I see displays from every manufacturer. The local dimming/black levels on this unit is amazing. I am also very impressed with the scaler in the Z9D, even a 720P image looks great. Tons of adjustability options. I would however recommend having a professional calibrate the Z9D for the best picture. Yes it will cost you extra but its worth every cent. The "Smart TV" features/options on this unit are plentiful and result in a great picture. However the Audio Return Channel (ARC) is just 2 channel. So if you are using a home theater receiver with ARC in conjunction with the smart TV you might be dissapointed in the 2-channel audio. The HDR(10) and Dolby Vision looks good. If you have a bright room you will be amazed with how bright this display can get. 3D movies are not my cup of tea because I don't want to wear glasses and I think 3D is cheesy but the Z9D does a good job with it. The speakers on the unit sound okay. I am using a full surround system so I don't use the TV speakers. I tested them when I first installed the TV and I would call the sound quality "adequate". If you are contemplating an OLED TV I would recommend a look at the Z9D series. OLED is amazing but has its drawbacks.

Beautiful reliable picture. The Google interface is also very easy to navigate. I watch local channels by antenna and it really looks remarkable in color and brightness. The sound is standard but I play everything through my home theater system. I would buy this again and am considering the 75 inch 2020 model.

The Sony Z9D series is by far the most advanced TV money can buy ! My 65" has a picture clearer, more detailed and with deeper colors- including black - than any TV I have seen ever. I had a Pioneer Elite and Kuro and thought that couldn't be beat, but the Sony does it - and I'm talking about 720 or 1080 not even 4k ! Buy it - you won't be disappointed!

I upgraded from a 10-year-old XBR and I am extremely impressed. Quality, even on poor feeds being upscaled, is outstanding. And, with Netflix and Amazon Prime 4k UHD content becoming more and more available, the highest quality is now a daily reality! The additional spend, which was substantial, delivered impressive definition, color and, especially, realistic blacks. Frankly, even before dialing in color, it took my breath away. Well done Sony!

For two grand, you cannot purchase a better TV in 2018. This was Sony's flagship model debuting in 2016. It still remains one of the top, if not best led lcd TV's in 2018. I prefer it's picture to even the Qf9. OLEDs are nice, but have their own drawbacks. The Sony ZD9 with full array local dimming with 600 zones is just unmatched in terms of contrast and deep blacks on an lcd panel. The picture is stunning. I'm coming from a Samsung F8500 Plasma, regarded as the best plasma ever made, so I am used to deep blacks. This Sony ZD9 does a remarkable job and just looks fantastic even with HD content. Gaming is great on it and I notice no pixel refresh lag or any other issues. It's just a very solid set. Too bad they are going away already and being replaced by the Z9F which already has been reviewed as having inferior blacks. Get a Zd9 while you can!

After extensive research between this TV set and the OLEDs, I decided to stick with the Z9D. I purchased and returned a LG OLED 65in B6. Yes it has deep blacks and good contrast but it just doesn't get bright enough and the blacks are so dark that you can't make out any shadow detail no matter how you calibrate it. Plus the gaming input lag and processing power of cable/satellite signal just doesn't compare to the processing or the Sony Z9D. I must say, if there wasn't a Z9D on the market, I would definitely go with an oled because that's the only alternative. But if you want the best ALL AROUND TV ON THE MARKET. Go with the Sony Z9D. You won't be disappointed

I had a plasma for years and waited a long time to upgrade. This is the first TV that showed so much improvement for the money. It's on sale now, and for the money, I can't believe my eyes. Movies in 4k and video gaming experience is absolutely amazing. Best TV on the market.

I'm coming late to reviewing this TV but I can assure everyone that the 4K picture is terrific, perhaps only second to OLED technology. No complaints about the picture, sound processing, inputs, and user-selectable options. All superb, as might be expected from Sony who tend to over-lavish their products with more user-configurable options than almost anyone will need. My review is less positive about the processor used to run the Android (Google TV) operating system. It seems barely upto the task with any on-set processing of inputs taking an age. We're taliking 2-3 seconds to respond to input switches, and 0.25 seconds per regular button press. That becomes really intrusive very quickly and spoils some of the pleasure of owning a leading-edge TV. [This review current as of Android 7.0 6/30/17 update, and all previous].
