I had a great TV set before this - Pioneer Kuro Elite (Pro 150). The Kuro, was even better than my Sony 930D. Then I got the A1E. The design, the image quality and sound are all top notch. I went back and forth deciding between the Sony A1E and the LG G7P. I ended up picking the Sony due to better audio and slightly more punchy image quality.
The A1E is better than the Kuro in every single way. The great blacks, the amazing upscaling and the innovative audio. It makes a difference that the sound appears to come from the people on the screen.
The one down side to this TV is Android. I use a 4K Apple TV and it addresses all limitations of Android TV UI. The Sony remote can control the Apple TV perfectly and the Apple TV can control the TV as needed during a movie. Plus, the Apple TV can be hidden from view with no problems. So that fixed the only downside of this TV - Android.
I love the design on this. The slight angle on the stand makes no difference in viewing. TV is all glass, and while it looks great, probably won’t take a hard bump too well. I was able to assemble the TV and set it up with my wife in less than 20 minutes. There are many Youtube videos to help as well. Set up wasn’t bad - even if it is free with Best Buy (it was an extra 10 days of waiting for Geek Squad). I guess if you want to wall mount it, then it makes sense. This TV looks best on a stand though. It looks better in our home than the store.

A Major Upgrade Over My X850C

This TV has replaced my Sony 55X850C from 2015 and it was a worthy upgrade. Before, I had mediocre black levels, so so brightness, and hardly any HDR support. Now that I have a bigger TV and an A1E, I have stepped into a new dimension of television. It is bright enough for my bedroom, has amazing black levels, awesome true to life color, and realistic sharpness. The texture on everything is unbelievable. The way movies and games look in screenshots and magazines is the way they look on this TV. We're finally at that level!
I use this with the Sony X800 4K HDR player and it looks fabulous. Brightness, sharpness, and contrast is all top notch. It may not be as bright as some other sets, but it is OLED and I'd much rather prefer the accuracy of color and lack of motion lag that it provides. ARC HDMI actually works for me this time around and I have no complaints with this connected to my Denon 4300H receiver. When I am not using the receiver, this OLED's speakers are easy to listen to. Sound is top notch. You don't have to crank the volume all the way up to hear it like on some other sets. It doesn't sound tinny either.
I game on it occasionally, but only casually. It is wall mounted with the Sanus tilting mount. The mechanism used for attaching it to the bracket is very secure so don't be alarmed. In the end I can see myself using this TV for many years to come. I've been so excited since my purchase on this TV that I even did a Youtube review on it!

Hi Elias, you have a nice setup there worthy of being featured in tech magazines. We're very happy that the A1E was able to meet your expectations, and we're glad to hear that you'll be using it for a very long time. It is a good upgrade on your part indeed. If you show us your YouTube review, you'll get a sub from me. Thank you for choosing the best! Regards, -Mark

I knew that there would be a big improvement in jumping from a dated Sony 65" XBR HD set, but this new A1E OLED has been spectacular. The 4K is stunning and so far there has been No Jitter - nothing - sports, movies, everything that I have tried has been crisp, clear and perfect. The only annoyance is the abandonment of 3D - we have quite a nice collection of 3D BluRay discs and have enjoyed them, but clearly we are in the minority on that front. I also really like the new update to the control overlay for the set - far better and easier then the old version. I am also pleased and surprised by the improved size - it is still a 65" screen, but overall it is smaller - and that is nice. The integrated Speakers are a huge improvement over the old rear firing setup - good enough that I was able to pull out the Sound Bar that we had been relying on for just normal viewing. Home theater is another matter - driving a full surround system with multiple Aragon 4004 MKII amps - so for that the A1E gets muted.... Really very pleased with the quality and processing - yes it is an LG screen, but it is the Sony processing that drives the stellar picture.

I upgraded from a 720P/1080i Pioneer Plasma television. The picture on this TV is superb! Very clear, great colors, no motion blur that I see. Sports look amazing. It was a bit expensive, but as I don't buy new TV's very often, I think it's definitely worth the price.

I began searching for a replacement 65”4K for my previous Samsung 65” 1080P unit. I began my search not intent on a certain brand. I’ve owned Samsung, Hitachi, LG, and Sony displays previously. If I could pass on any advice, don’t look at an OLED display next to a “regular” 4K display, it’ll cost you money lol. After making this mistake, I landed on the Sony A1E and the LG E7/C7 displays. I ultimately went with the Sony due to what my eye determined to be ever so slightly better black levels and a more cinematic picture concerning the color fidelity. The LG has a phenomenal picture, but I felt the Sony edged it out. I’ve been very happy over past couple months. The picture has never ceased to impress. I’ve used streamed 4K and Disc based, both with very happy results. The Sony’s “acoustic screen” technology works very well, I’ve actually moved my Sonos soundbar to another room. Hope this helps.

Without question, Sony has set the performance and quality bar for the competition with this OLED solution. The only thing that’s up for discussion here is the value proposition (quality/performance vs. price). In my particular case, I could really appreciate the additional picture quality and leading-edge design appearance to make the additional price-tag worth it to me. However, that will, most likely, not be the case for everyone.
One additional comment, the sound system that has been incorporated into the TV screen surface itself using actuators in the OLED display is certainly unique and a preview of where integrated sound technology is going. So, for that I say to Sony, “job well done”. However, for those of you who are focused on achieving the best sound end-product at the most reasonable cost, any good quality sound bar-based home theatre system you might already own or plan to purchase will handily out-perform this admittedly leading-edge in-screen sound-system design from Sony.

I watch too much TV. I had an older XBR LCD (with the glass surround) that I absolutely loved largely due to the great sound and look of the TV. When I started to get minor pixilation after several years of use I went to my local Best Buy to look at the new XBRs. They appeared to be a little on the cheaply built side (Hecho en Mexico) and the bezel on the floor model was coming apart. I looked at other TVs at the time but none could live up to my old XBR. Fast forward a couple of years and the A1E comes our (albeit with an LG panel) and I get excited. I read the reviews, visit the stores and wait for the first markdown to get it.
Wow - worth the wait! Love even the uncalibrated default settings on the TV. OLED is one of those things that if you watch TV as much as me you have to get. The first thing I did was get 4K Netflix and watched Stranger Things 2 and the darker scenes in the show were very inky and what I was hoping for.
Was it worth the premium over the LG? I have long been a Sony guy and the upconversion seems fluid enough on my sports programming. I would say yes it is worth it. I think that the sound is pretty good considering it is coming out of the screen (uber cool btw). The bass is not as robust as my older set due to narrower width - less room for subwoofer. Overall the way the sound is set up keeps the set thin enough and super clean looking with a thin bezel. Mine is currently wall mount so the stand really doesn't come into play.
Thank you Sony for returning to building what feels and seems like a quality of monitor worthy of your brand.

Having read many of the other reviews and - BELIEVE ME I KNOW WORDS I KNOW THE BEST WORDS - :-) I really do not have a great deal to add. This is Sony at its best - not sure what the Operating System problems are as yet as we have only had this TV for two weeks, and the guys from Geek Squad set it up the way I wanted - and I watched every move they made. They did not have any problems linking it to my new Yamaha Adventage Receiver, Sorry Sony but your Receivers get VERY bad reviews, and although the sound from the TV was good - it does not compare to our 7.2 Klipsh system. Everyone who has been over visiting has said WOW - that is one fantastic TV.

I've been a Samsung consumer for well over a decade. When shopping for a new TV, I was leaning toward the Samung QLED model. And then the guy at Best Buy explained and further demonstrated the differences between the QLED and the OLED pictures. Whoa! Just no comparison. The price difference was staggering, so I didn't bite right away. When browsing the store with my wife, she noticed the difference as well. That's when I knew I had the "permission" I needed to make the purchase. I waited for the right sale...
It's now in my home, mounted on the wall (thanks Geek Squad!), and connected to all of my other components. I love it! The picture is so clear, and whereas we had trouble viewing dark scenes on my old Samsung LED, everything is crystal clear and viewable on the Sony. And the Google Smart Home interface is wonderful. As an Android phone user and a Google Chrome user, having the TV interface seamlessly with all of my content is a blessing. I'm currently shopping for a smaller T.V. for our bedroom, and this Google interface is one of my top criteria.
Bottom line: I love the TV. Though it's a bit expensive, it's worth it!

I have previously owned Sony TV's and Panasonic Plasma TV's. I have to say this is the best TV I have ever owned. The image quality is superb. I liked the color from Sony OLED's more than LG's. I think that is more of a personal issue, so make sure you check out the TV's before you purchase.
Image Quality: This is probably the most important issue for most TV buyers and I think the Sony OLED's will not disappoint. The image quality is superb. I've never seen such crystal clear images on a TV before. IMHO they are better than plasma. Sony does a good job of uprezzing 1080p to 4K. Movies and TV shows in 4K are just magnificent. HDR really makes content look amazingly vibrant.
Sound: I did get a Sony 7.1 Atmos sound bar, but I was amazed with the sound coming out of just the TV. Sound comes from the actual screen. It was better than sound that comes out of most TV's I checked out at the store. You could get away with just the TV sound and get a good subwoofer for deeper bass if you wanted to save some money.
Android TV: It's not as bad as I thought it would be. You can play 4K content from Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. There isn't much in terms of storage space for downloading a ton of apps, but enough for what you need. The controls are simple enough and respond relatively quickly.
The TV is relatively expensive, but I think it is worth the price. it is easy to update the firmware online, rather than using USB sticks or attaching USB cables etc. The TV is incredibly thin. You have to be really careful installing the TV. I recommend either using a service or having another friend around to help you mount etc.
One Caveat. This TV does not support Dolby Vision HDR. However Sony has released a statement stating they will add this feature in a future firmware update some time in December 2017.
Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase and have really enjoyed watching TV and movies again in my home.

This is by far the best picture I've seen yet. Thankfully I had the protection plan on my old tv because I wouldn't have gotten this one without it. The picture is not much different from the LG E7 which would be the comparable model. I don't like the soundbar on the bottom of that tv. It's an eye sore. Which leads into the sound quality, that is, the A1E has the best sound quality out of any tv on the market. Audio is amazing and it's really neat how they did it. The sub on the stand is good. The ability to add on an external Sub is a great idea by Sony. I did just that and it adds a good boost to the audio. The motion on the tv is fantastic. Gaming is not an issue for me. I play a lot of RPGs, and first person shooters mainly, I have no issues. The smart features are not an issue as of yet. I bought my parents an 55x850D and they seemed to have issues with a lot of apps that were active they weren't using. I eventually went in and disabled them which helped the speed of the smart features and they haven't had issues since. I'd recommend doing that. The looks of the A1E was the cherry on top. The glass back and clean front really pushed me towards it. As I stated earlier the LG E7 soundbar is an awful design and it's an eye sore to me as it just doesn't look good. And I'm not willing to shell out $8k for the LG W7 just for a thinner panel. I'd recommend this tv to just about anyone that can get it or just wants an OLED in general. It's great for gaming (I'm a casual to serious gamer depending on the game) so I know what I'm talking about. Movies on this are fantastic and streaming is not an issue as stated earlier but I'll update if I have issues with it.

LIke everyone who contemplates a purchase of this type of TV I looked at most brands and screen styles. The alphabet soup of LED's and this Sony OLED. Obviously I chose the OLED. Great picture, great sound, and easy to install. The other LED's even the Sony top end was too bright and too sharp to look real. However, my viewing is in mostly a dark/muted light room so the OLED's color and black defination worked great.

This TV is amazing. The picture quality out of the box needs only slight calibration to optimize viewing, but there are plenty of online forums where you can get those settings. You also have the option to have a professional come out and do this as well, but I am not that concerned. Aesthetically, this is the best looking tv on the market with clean lines and hidden cords. The slight angle does take some getting used to but after 2 weeks you will no longer notice. The only downside aside from the hefty price tag would be the app interface but I utilize my Xbox for that so not a concern.

Please read all the reviews for picture comments but basically the picture is excellent with really good up scaling processing for non 4K sources. The only issue I have is the stand. I can see the benefit if you are going to set up the tv on a table but for wall mount is not that great. It adds, at least 5 inches from the wall. Other than that it's a great TV.

The Sony Oled 65 inch is an excellent choice for the top the line TV. The contrast and sharpness is excellent even with out the any calibration. The added price is worth it compared to the LED version.
The sound quality with new screen speaker technology seems to work well even without a sound bar.

Outstanding, but pricey TV. But if you want the best, this may be it.
As a 4K UHD TV the definition of UHD content is outstanding. As an OLED, the perfect blacks help create amazing contrast. Throw in the color saturation produced by this TV and the picture quality of 4K content is jaw-dropping. But to some degree at least those outcomes are expected in such a high-end 4K UHD OLED TV. Perhaps the biggest surprise (?) with the A1 is what this TV can do upscaling standard 1080 HD content, which is mostly what you'll be watching right now over cable, satellite or local. I have a standard HD TV upstairs, and the difference in picture quality of the same content between that TV and the A1 is almost shocking. The A1 does an incredible job of upscaling standard HD to often near 4K quality. Reviews regularly call the Sony upscaling algorithm the best. I believe it. Try Prometheus as a test between a standard HD and the A1. You'll be sold. In addition, as an OLED, viewing angle is practically unlimited; and the sound produced through the acoustic surface front panel is surprisingly good - if you're not using a sound system.

I've been a long time Sony TV owner and recently upgraded to the 65" A1E from my 2008 52" Bravia XBR, which has served me well over the last decade. The XBR picture quality still rivals many of today's mid-range LED/LCD panels, which is a testament to how well Sony future proofs their high end offerings. Sony providing an OLED option finally had me wanting to upgrade.
I love this TV. I know the OLED screen is manufactured by LG and you can expect to get very similar picture quality with LG's OLED panels as well, but I've always enjoyed Sony's presentation and their picture processing is second to none. Obviously 4K/HDR content looks unbelievable, yet Sony's HD upscaling is impressive and breaths new life into my HD content library.
I've paired mine with an Apple TV 4K and am overall very happy.
