    Buyer beware!!! Sony design flaw!!!!

    In February, my husband and I purchased a 65” Sony OLED A1E TV from Best Buy. Because this was such an expensive TV, and I’m risk averse, we also bought the Best Buy protection plan. My husband, who used to work in audio/visual sales and his friend, who does audio/visual installation, mounted the TV themselves on the wall. This is a heavy TV, maybe about 60 lbs or so. It’s supported by a plastic kick stand base that Sony bolted/glued to the back of the TV. Once the TV was on the wall mount and they let go of the TV, the weight of the glass from the screen pulled away from the plastic kick stand and bowed the TV which caused the screen to crack internally. My husband has spent numerous hours on the phone with Best Buy and Sony, filing a claim with Sony, but because he mounted the TV himself, Best Buy and Sony absolve themselves from responsibility, citing “physical damage” which isn’t covered under the manufacturer or Best Buy service warranty. Our contention is a faulty design flaw by Sony which they refuse to consider, despite the pictures we’ve emailed to Sony and shown Best Buy. Best Buy won’t even send a technician out to our house to look at the TV to consider the possibility of a faulty design by Sony. Incidentally, the 2017 model is the only year that Sony used the kick stand base. They changed their design in 2018. Coincidence? I think not. I’ve attached two pictures. The first is the left side where the kick stand is pulling away from the TV, you can clearly see a bracket holding the kick stand to the TV. The third picture is of the cracked screen. This is an internal crack caused by the bowing of the TV when the kick stand pulled away from the screen. The exterior screen is not cracked at all. Do NOT buy this TV!!!!!

    Stunning Picture - Not Consumer Friendly

    Beautiful picture. But, a lot of trouble to set up. Especially getting the television to interface correctly in the cable, streaming and DVD player modes with the 5.1 surround system that had previously been installed in the home. The built-in speakers were of very limited sound quality, which is common in televisions, even expensive ones. The only way to solve the interface problem was to purchase a brand new 5.1 receiver that is correspondingly matched to 4K Ultra High Definition technology. Another major problem is the item is a "smart" television. Of course, the "smarter" the device, the more difficult for the consumer to actually use. In this case, programming personal preferences took hours of trial and error, since the included owner's manual provided little more information than how to connect which output to which input. The "Help" section in the television itself proved to be of minimal use. Additionally, the television started turning itself on, often many hours after having been turned off along with all the connected devices. The solution? Geek Squad came out and reset it to the factory default settings, requiring the re-installation of the internet connection and streaming services such as Netflix. The television does have a near flawless picture that even upgrades original television shows from 50 years ago to smooth and clear quality. But, the high cost of the television plus the cost to upgrade to a new 5.1 receiver suitable for 4K UHD equipment makes it a huge expense. That, of course, does not count the extended warranty which covered the Geek Squad coming to the home to fix the aforementioned unit turning on by itself. As an aside, the extended warranty itself was not inexpensive. Furthermore, the total amounts spent were not entirely financial. The prices paid in terms of time and frustration were astronomical. Many hours were spent at home trying to get the television to simply operate with the sound system in all modes. Then, more hours were spent going back and forth to Best Buy after the purchase to resolve the issues with the unit. Bottom line: A top-shelf picture that is far too expensive in every sense.

    The TV worked out of the box then lost internet.

    The TV worked fine for approximately 90 days then lost the ability to connect to the internet. I have a WiFi connection but could not bring the internet back on. Spoke with Best Buy and they recommended a new modem/router. Replaced the modem/router and same result, replaced the receiver, same result. Researched the internet and find many others have had the same problem. Tried all solutions I could find (the Sony site is terrible) and no fix. Now going on (30) days and approximately $1k in costs and no solution in sight. I would leave this in pieces on the show room floor but my lovely wife has said no. I do not recommend purchasing this product. The price is high but the frustration far exceeds the cost!

    I have a defective screen in my new Sony OLED TV. It has a big warped mark right in the middle of the screen that you can clearly see in the photo. Sony said this is from the speaker that is in this area and that if they replaced it I could expect this to happen again. It is vey annoying to watch a TV with a mark the size of your hand in the middle of the screen. We all need to stay away from Companies that do not stand behind their products.

    Dark TV

    This is the worst Sony Tv I ever owned. You constantly have to play with the settings. Many programs come in dark no matter what you do. The colors are bright and vivid when the program isn't too dark, but when the program changes or a commercial comes on you get get a totally different picture. This TV is way too expensive to have so many problems with picture quality. After reading how Sony doesn't stand by their product I decided to return this TV and for the first time in my life I am considering other brands.

    Bad banding.

    Sony replaced one TV for another, which had electrical issues. The TV they replaced it with has bad banding that you see every time there’s a black screen . You of course also see it in certain content . Waiting for Sony to resolve took me out of my 30 day return policy and I’m stuck with the TV with bad banding . I was told by Sony too bad too sad it’s within spec .

    I bought this on 3/30/19, stopped working on 4/9/19. TV shut off by itself and started flashing red 4 times. Called Sony,tried rebooting with no changes.I sent pictures requested, will wait and see. Not off to a good start.

    Having someone come to our home and make suggestions was wonderful. Breck was knowledgeable and listened to what we wanted , then he made it happen Great picture and sound!
