    Apps, Dim

This is my first new TV since buying a 1080p plasma in 2011, and I'm blown away. Unlike other LCD/LED TVs I've seen in action, the black levels on the Sony X900H are phenomenal. Right out of the box the color looked excellent, needing only a few minor adjustments. And 4K + HDR is truly amazing if you're as late to the party as I am. Gaming is one of my main uses for my TV, and the X900H has HDMI 2.1 functionality coming in a firmware update. It's also one of only two Sony TVs labeled "Ready for PlayStation 5" (once that firmware update lands). I currently have a PS4 Pro and a gaming PC connected to it. The PS4 Pro looks great but can't push so many pixels at higher than 30 FPS; my PC on the other hand is sending 1440p to the TV, which is upconverting to 4K cleanly and with no noticeable distortion. I'm getting about 60 FPS in Destiny 2 at 1440p with HDR on, and it's like a completely different game from what I'm used to. Another big plus for the X900H is the Android TV OS. This is bar-none the best TV OS I've ever used. Sony put 3GB of RAM in here, so the UI is very responsive and all the apps load very quickly. That said, I'm less than impressed with the amount of storage space for apps -- after installing several, I was down to 2 GB of free storage remaining. That should be enough, but it's hard to know what the future holds. An honorable mention also goes to Sony's motion smoothing. It's the best I've ever seen. It's a lot less "uncanny valley" soap opera effect and a lot more of a natural smoothing effect. It's still not for everybody, but I like it so much I decided to leave it on for a while. The worst thing about the X900H is that it's only got 30-something local dimming zones. In the 65" size, which I purchased, this is sometimes noticeable when you have a completely black screen with one small bright image on it (like an animated icon on a game loading screen) -- in that case you will sometimes see a rectangle of light bloom behind the icon. This becomes much more noticeable if you're not directly in front of the TV, so be warned. That said, it's amazing what Sony's processing is doing with this few zones. To minimize the bloom, set the Local Dimming mode on "High". If you decide to pick one of these up, check for dirty screen effect (DSE) using one of the many test videos on YouTube. There's kind of a panel lottery involved at this end of the market. Fortunately I lucked out and have no visible banding or shadowing, except for a little vignetting at the corners. Overall, I'm super happy with my purchase and the price I got for this TV. I hope I'll get many years of enjoyment out of it.

    Pros mentioned:
    Color, Design, Picture

I pulled the trigger on the x900h (x90h). Some context. I am replacing an 2012 LG 3d 55 inch. Loved that TV, but am getting Xbox Series X ready and wanted 4K HDR for gaming, streaming, and movies. The purchase, price was not really a factor, I was willing to buy the Q90t or CX which were about double the price. So, out of the box, with only a few minor settings adjustments, I love this TV: Positives: - HDR: Disney +, Netflix, and movies on Google Play in Dolby Vision are just simply jaw dropping. The blacks are almost OLEDish, the brightness and color is almost QLEDish. Its really the best of both worlds and produces stunning contrast. I am amazed on how good the picture was for the price I paid ($1169 at Best Buy). - This TV is bright- I saw on Rtings.com and Digital Trends that it has a peak brightness of around 750 nits and it worried me. But then some owners said it was plenty bright. So what was it? I turned on the opening of Rise of Skywalker in the Sith Temple on Dolby Vision Bright, I wanted to see a dark scene. The contrast looked like the CX. Every time the lightening flashed my wife and turned our heads because the flash was so bright. I turned down the brightness from 50 to 30 in the settings. (included a pic with Dolby Vision Bright on below) - I saw that some people had issues with banding, I only saw banding on a 720p broadcast of the Indians game. Anything 1080p and 4k that I have watched as not had any banding at all. - I have an original Xbox One. So I could not test out the HDR gaming. I will say, in 1080p, its is the best looking gaming I have done thus far. Forza Horizons is just gorgeous. Did not notice any lag. Negatives: - This is an HDMI 2.1 TV, that, out of the box, is not HDMI 2.1. Sony promises an update to activate the full 2.1 features (VRR, ALLM, 4k at 120hz). As of now, it has not been updated, but I would imagine it will be before the PS5 comes out and you will see the x900h bundled with the PS5 on Black Friday. - Android TV took a few minutes to get used to. Not really a negative, just wish it had the bottom menu like Tizen interface on the Samsungs instead of taking up the whole screen. - On the sound front, I have a Samsung q80 sound bar. I have not played around with the TVs sound at all. Overall: There is so much bang for the buck with this TV. Really eye popping color, super dark blacks, and great contrast. I know it is a "video game" TV spec wise, but I cannot imagine a much better picture for streaming 4K HDR content. If like me, you were torn between higher end models, I say give the x900h (x90h) a shot and save a grand. You will not be disappointed.

I just purchased this TV - first thoughts - a little bulky, unlike some oled and qled tvs, however the contrast between the darks and colors give more of a “3D” feeling because it differentiates movements with solid black backgrounds. Almost as black as if the tv were off. Great for gaming. The tv is fast and responsive, easy to use and set up (no one uses manuals ✌️). Lastly you can’t beat what you get for the price, Sony really stepped this tv series up. Highly recommend.

I was a little apprehensive before buying this TV because I always thought that Samsung and LG were the flag ship TVs of the business. But the more I researched the top TVs I realize Sony was above all the best. I purchased the Sony X900 H and I was definitely not disappointed whatsoever. The clarity and overall quality of this TV is amazing & unmatched for the price. Sony really is top-of-the-line for TVs as well as sound bars.

The remote response time for commands is really good. The remote learned how to program my cable box and program guide. The onboard apps for NetFlix and Prime work great. The Apple integration is great. I can cast HDR 4K Apple source on the TV. Voice commands work. It also immediately integrated with and controls the Sony soundbar I purchased, as well as the Sony Blueray player I had already. What is not to like?

After some research, I settled on this Sony Smart Android 65" and very happy I did. Also had Geek Squad for delivery and set-up, and they were right on time, professional and helped me with a crash course on the new set. So the feature list of this TV is long, so I'll have to update you on the rest, but so far so good, and you can't go wrong with ths Sony. I got it for a great price with a Best Buy "Members Only" deal, so that made it even nicer. Highly recommend this Sony TV and Geek Squad delivery and setup !

This TV replaced a 3 year old Visio and I am extremely pleased with the color and the features that Sony provides. This Bravia is a QLed as in 2013 Sony introduced this technology. The blacks are outstanding and it even has bluetooth connectivity for your headphones. I highly recommend this X900H and keep in mind it is a Qled.

I will start off by saying this TV has great resolution and fantastic, vibrant color. HDR is plenty bright and content is amazing. There are, however, two issues I have with this TV, one minor and one major. The first issue which is minor is the motion artifacts I get occasionally. It’s almost like the TV can’t keep up with the fast motion of a scene and it flutters (ie not smooth). I quickly go into settings, change the picture mode for a few seconds, then change it back to the original picture mode and the issue resolves itself. I’m hoping a future software update resolves this. The major issue I have with the TV is the vertical banding that is apparent in ALL content, from SD up to 4K HDR. It is an issue in the manufacturing of the TV that has to do with the separate backlighting zones which makes the screen appear like a jail cell during solid color scenes such as a blue sky or snowy field. Based off all the reviews I’ve read it only effects the 65” model for some reason. This is very distracting and very disappointing for a TV that costs close to $1600. I have attached a picture of this effect.

      Hi Danimal23,

Thank you for purchasing the X900H Ultra HD Smart TV.

We’re sorry to hear you are experiencing some minor and major issues where the TV shows a vertical banding. We’d love to help you troubleshoot your problem by isolating your sources and understanding your connections. In the meantime, we recommend trying the following steps below.

On the supplied remote control, press the HOME button. If the lines appear on the menu screen, proceed to the next step.
      Perform a power reset.
Press the HOME button again to display the menu screen.
If no lines are visible on the menu screen after power reset, other external sources (such as cable or satellite box, internet video device, or other devices like a DVD player) or cable connections could be the cause of the issue.

Additional steps are available on the link below.

This is what you want to see. Because this is what I have wanted to see. An actual review of a brand new tv which promises FUTURE PROOF for the next GEN OF VIDEO GAMES! PS5 and Xbox One Series X! Frustrated on not seeing reviews come in enough. I upgraded from a 55 900E. And got a 65 900H. And this thing is almost TOO BEAUTIFUL. I played fortnite on it, injustice 2, yakuza kiwami, Kingdom Hearts, and assassins creed oddessy. (That game is 30 frames yuck, but graphics are nice). This tv is super powerful. No brick in the plug. Great menus and fast OS. Without a doubt I am ready for the new consoles. I think 65 is the perfect size. Little to actually no input lag tested on injustice 2 and the consoles are getting more powerful so will really be none. Its a treat to look at and own. Want to thank me for the review? Follow me on twitter @TommyInvincible and tell me thank you there lol! The speakers on the tv, although I use astro a20s, feel like the sound is coming directly at you. It is great But really great tv. Excited for November. P.s don’t mind my “stand”. I ordered one has not come yet. Like the picture I attached of Kingdom Hearts 3, GO WITH THIS TODAY

    Color, Set up

I bought this set as an alternative to the Vizio p65qx-h1 (which has apparently fallen off the face of the earth, and Vizio remains radio silent on release information). Given the feedback that has been coming from the 75 inch model of the Vizio, and some lackluster reviews for the p65q9-h1 (which has been released); I figured it would be safer to go with Sony for this TV purchase. Having said that, I respect the Sony brand name and had really high hopes for this display. I will say that use and setup of the display is great. It probably has the snappiest Android TV interface I have experienced. Color out of the box looks great and is even better following RTINGS.com configuration guide. HDR content looks great as well. Unfortunately, it appears that the 65" model is plagued with banding issues. Numerous reports on RTINGS.com and Reddit confirm this. It appears that wall mounting the unit exacerbates the level of banding you may see. Further, applying any tilt to the mount makes the banding even more visible. On my display, the banding is only really visible on bright scenes( IE sunny outdoor shots with blue skies, white screens, or bright games like Fall Guys). In these environments you will see vertical bars across the whole display, which can be jarring and take your focus off of the content. I have tried different inputs and every variety of setting changes, and the banding has stayed. Removing the tilt from the wall mount did reduce the banding somewhat, it seems like the display was designed to be mounted at a flush 90 degree angle (or not mounted at all). Other users have reported seeing the banding in fast action content. Fortunately, my display is not showing any signs of that. If that were the case, I would have already gone through the hassle of initiating a return. Where my unit is only showing the banding in really bright scenes, I have decided to hold on to it for the current point in time. Having said that, I don't think any level of defect is acceptable on a $1600 TV. I am not sure if this is a manufacturing issue, or what is the cause. But once you see the banding, it is really hard to not see it in scenes. If you are sensitive to such things, I advise you to purchase an alternative set; or the 55" model (which apparently has way less reports of these banding issues). For reference I have included a picture of the display mounted at 90 degrees, in a curtain drawn room. You will see the banding (that looks like jail bars across the screen) prevalent.

      Hi JimLahey,

Thank you for choosing and purchasing our Sony X900H Ultra HD Smart TV.

We are glad that you like the setup display. We are also sorry to hear you are experiencing some banding issues. We’d love to help you troubleshoot your problem.

For lines on the screen (vertical or horizontal lines, bands) please try the following steps below.

On the supplied remote control, press the HOME button. If the lines appear on the menu screen, proceed to the next step.
      Perform a power reset.
      Turn off your TV.
      Unplug the AC power cord.
Leave your TV unplugged for two minutes, then plug it back in.
      Turn on your TV.
Press the HOME button again to display the menu screen.
If no lines are visible on the menu screen after power reset, other external sources (such as cable or satellite box, internet video device, or other devices like a DVD player) or cable connections could be the cause of the issue. Check the following to try to resolve the issue:
Turn off any electrical or battery-operated devices that may create radio frequency (RF) interference.
Adjust the antenna direction and location.
Nearby mountain or tall buildings that reflect the broadcast signals may cause ghosting in the picture.
Check if the cable is firmly connected to the TV and the connected device and make sure it is not loose.
Use a spare cable to replace the currently used one and see if the situation will improve.
Use another input terminal of the TV.

I’m upgrading from a Sony 800 series that’s about 6 years old, so I’m used to the wonderful Sony picture quality and this set is no different. Incredible contrast ratio that I would put up to any OLED( no cap). Very minimal DSE if any at all, I notice very slight darkness in the corners on all white screens but it’s not bothersome whatsoever. It handles motion very well and I have been using the built in Netflix calibration mode for streaming Netflix and it looks great! I mainly use it for gaming for multiple hours a day and it has an outstanding game mode feature with very little input lag and with a future update of hdmi 2.1 and VRR I feel good about my next gen console purchase (ps5 all the way). The only slight issue I’ve had is very rare jailbar appearance on lower quality YouTube videos of panning shots across the sky. It’s rare that it shows up but if you look for it in certain scenes you can see it, this has not bothered me to the point of returning it but I did get the additional 2 year warranty just in case it got worse or became an issue. Some chalk this up to panel lottery which may be true but don’t let that scare you away from the best value TV on the market currently. I love it

Aside from all the obvious reasons why this is a 12 out of 10, here are a few things to consider: - if you use youtubetv or hulu live or sling, know that there's no shortcut button on the remote (i've pressed the "tv" button a few times which is just a shortcut to an hdmi input). so youll still have to navigate through the home screen to get to one of your preferred streaming channels (like 3 steps) - it was a bit thicker in width than i expected, minor details - bezel is incredibly minimal, but the bottom has the slightest different in bezel with maybe like 0.1 inches more than the other edges, again minor details other than that, it's beautiful and i can't take my eyes off it.

Pros: Great color out the box Amazing upscaling AndroidTV (very responsive as well) ATSC 3.0 Tuner HDMI 2.1 coming via update Great blacks with minimal blooming Fast response time with no blur/trails Cons: No smooth gradation/low bit rate color banding Low Dolby Vision brightness Remote doesn't light up Dark scenes will show dark blobs at times Corners a tad dark Typical VA panel off axis viewing Overall for an LCD its an amazing picture. Smooth Gradation is the only real flaw that should of been part of original software. Fix that and I'd give a 5 star review. Spoke with Sony rep that said all their info for this TV shows it should have smooth gradation. After about 20 mins of hold he advised me to wait for an update but couldn't confirm details of update. Just that I'd be happy with it. So I guess we will see if they remedy it. All the other cons are just inherent to LCD. Dolby Vision brightness has been fine for me since I have a fairly dark room during the day, but this is not gonna be an ideal tv for extremely bright rooms. The upscaling of 1080 content is fantastic. Save yourself the $3 a month on Netflix and cancel out 4K :) Response time is insane fast and does cause some stutter on slow scenes. You can get this removed by using motion smoothing which has been really good in my limited use of it. The amount needed does vary by content. Seen next to no artifacts from smoothing and you can get it set low enough to have little to no soap opera effect.

I've gone through several tvs prior to this one. Lg CX, Vizio P 2021, Samsung q70t, Lg nano 90 and 85, Samsung q90t were all on the list. While I think the 900H offers the best value it doesn't make it the perfect TV. It has more than a single HDMI 2.1 port unlike the Samsungs. This is critical if you plan to use more than one console or pc for input OR if you have an hdmi 2.1 receiver. Its unacceptable to only have one port given how expensive the Samsung tv's are. If you do only need a single port the Q70t offers the best value. Color reproduction is excellent. The Vizio and LG Oled exceed this by a fair amount however Sony's processing and Reliability seem to be a notch above. My Vizio started having problems within 2 weeks and some LGs had issues with flickering/snowy screen with inputs. The HDR on this TV is decent. Sony has a feature that enhances the brightness in areas of the screen which in my personal opinion almost brings this to Oled level. The brightness of laps or small details are brought out extremely well giving you an HDR experience on regular content. Motion handling is indeed excellent. The response time on the TV and input lag is very good. I have yet to notice any trailing lines with dark to light content. Very impressive. The backlighting on the TV is very good. While the Sony does have fewer zones, the way they are lit for whatever reason doesn't create as stark a contrast difference as many other TV's with FALD. Its not to say you don't sometimes see the sections however its a much smoother transition between the edge of the zones. It also does a a decent job and not oversaturating the color in the zones the dimming is active. I can best describe this as when a persons face is far from a light source in a room their face ends up with almost a single glaring skin tone. The TV mitigates this pretty well. Personally I'm not the biggest fan of android TV. We have another Sony TV that is 3 years old now (no problems what so ever) and the interface is laggy sometimes. It drove me nuts despite it otherwise working. This TV is certainly much faster and is not nearly as painful. I still think Roku TV is among the easiest along with LG and Samsung. So downsides with the TV, these are unfortunate and let these issues be the deciding factor for you. Some of us don't mind them more than others. Vignetting (darking in corners) is absolutely present. Its definitely noticeable and if it bothers you I would pick another tv. The tip of the corners are almost black on a white screen. I honestly don't notice this as normal shows have bars. Normal content that does fill up teh screen such as movies or games doesn't really make it all that noticeable as the colors, contrast, and brightness are constantly changing. Some games even add this affect so again, determine how much this bothers you. DSE (dirty screen effect) is present. I don't feel that its that bad and personally needed to run a test to see this. I can see some contrast changes on a white screen in sections while playing moving content. So it probably is not the best TV for hockey. This is primarily a gaming screen and for shows. I rarely notice this but if it bothers you I feel like the Samsungs faired a little bit better and LGs in some cases. Overall when this TV just reached $969 for the 65" I was very pleased to price match this. It is among the best offerings considering the features and Sony's excellent processing. I thought the whole "Sony's superior processing" was nonsense but this TV has been the only one with its X-tended dynamic range to bring brightness accents close to an Oled. It was really nice to watch familiar scenes back and go "WOW, its almost like Oled". Before I go, I just want to reiterate that I do feel Sony's quality in components are excellent. I don't always like their choices i.e. android tv but our other Sony Bravia x850e is on almost all of the time. The picture quality is still excellent and its holding up now over 3 years. This is obviously limited to my own experience I just haven't heard anything bad from anyone else. You'll notice they don't make super cheap TVs and in this case you do get what you pay for.

Wow what an amazing picture with this XBR-65X900H. The colors, contrast, brightness, whites, blacks, motion control and once again the colors are just brilliant. There are so many color adjustments that can be made to fit your individual tastes if you want but ours was fantastic right out of the box with the standard settings. I know Sony is well known for high quality and great picture quality from my past experience as I had a 25XBR from the mid 80’S that ran for 30+ years and it just kept running until technology passed it by. We upgraded from a 7 year old 1080p Vizio 60hz and it did well with it’s limitations but it was time to join the 4k world finally with a 120hz 2180p TV to finally get full potential with our 4k Pioneer Elite receiver and the combination is excellent. We looked at many other brands and kept coming back to the Sony and it’s natural picture quality that is very pleasing to the eyes without the oversaturating of colors and brightness that will get old on the eyes after awhile. Our final 2 choices came down to the X950H and the X900H and the X900H was holding it’s own very well even next to it and the OLEDs so we just couldn’t justify paying the additional cost for a slight difference as you can’t go wrong with either the X900H or X950H. The X900H was about $500 less than the X950H which was amazing to us and it has us set up for the future with it being ATSC 3.0 ready now with the HTSC 2.1 update arriving soon. We currently have cable that only broadcasts at 1080p so the X900H upscaling and X-motion clarity was seen immediately in picture quality. Current hookup is cable from wall to cable box, HDMI from Cable box to receiver HDMI IN connection and another HDMI cable from receiver ARC to TV ARC. For the AV wizards if there is better connection let me know. We never had access to streaming before and Android TV is fast with this 4k X-1 processor and very impressive indeed but also the surround sound with streaming thru our receiver is amazing as well so cutting cable is eminent. Ordering online and delivery by Best Buy was flawless. I was a little worried about setting up our first smart TV but after unboxing, setting it up and turning it on it was soooo easy to do and it walks you thru every step of the way perfectly. Once again Sony picture quality is amazing - so much so that the wife looked at it operating the first time and said order her one for the other room so of course I did lol. Things I had to have was 120hz, 4k UHD Full Array LED, Dolby Vision, HD10, Dolby Atmos, X-Motion clarity, ATSC 3.0, HTSC 2.1 with android/google assistant w/voice assist remote and this one has it all. I give it a solid 5 of 5 rating. It's great to be back in the Sony world again it is well worth it.

It had been about 6 years since I had purchased a television, and I was wanting to get back into gaming since the games on PS5 look really exciting. My old television (also a Sony) was good, but there were some flaws with the picture in certain settings. The biggest one was poor performance in dark scenes. Originally I was considering an LG Oled, as Oled's will always have the best blacks. But there are just too many problems with the 2020 lg oleds. #1 is that they don't include a dolby encoder, which is a huge issue if you ever want to send a lossless signal from the television to your surround receiver. The new consoles (and new graphics cards) will support 4k resolution at 120hertz, and once the new version of android is released, 2 of the 4 hdmi ports will support all hdmi features including 4k/120, variable refresh rate, and some others. The television is great! The complaints I had with my last television regarding color banding are gone, and the overall image quality is better than I expected. The android interface is really nice, and FAST. I will mention if your room has windows facing the opposite side of the television, you might have some problems with glare. If you get a tilting or full motion mount this can really help...but since this television has features designed for the fastest possible refresh rate, it does not have the features for wide viewing angles. So people with this sorts of living rooms will end up closing the shades, or they should consider the Sony 950 line instead. The only thing I don't really like about the television is the stand. The stand elevates the television a lot higher than most other stands do. I am assuming this would be GOOD for people who want to use a soundbar directly underneath the television. But for people who don't, the stand is unnecessarily tall.
