    My GF gave me some new Bose 201's for my birhtday. I have always had some good speakers around the house. My current receiver has tons of power but you can't blue tooth to it. Its also a Sony and its at lest 20 years old. Anyway bought this receiver today, got the speakers all hooked up ran the speaker test and they all sounded excellent during the test. The problem being it wouldn't let me play any music because it kept muting for some reason. I could hear about a half a second of a song before it got muted. I reset this receiver at least 10 times It did not matter if I turned up the volume with the remote or with the big knob on the receiver.It would play for a half a second and then show it was muted. Couldn't find a way to turn the mute off. The mute button was certainly didn't help. So I boxed it up and took it back for a refund. This is a basic receiver its not rocket science. Unreal ,from what I did hear don't think it had more power than my old receiver anyway, I will look for something better with more power. What a waste of my time.

    Lip synch delay for surround sound

    Totally frustrated! Spent hours trying to get this to work, but there is a lip synch delay between the video on my 4k TV and the audio coming from the HDMI ARC to the receiver and out to the speakers. There is an a/v synch option in the receiver settings which allows me to give an even greater delay to the audio, but none that allows me to reduce the delay time (with it set to off there is still a delay). Totally unacceptable to me! If you don't mind watching video with the audio coming slightly after, then no problem. For me, it's going back. Can't believe all the time I wasted. At least I can return it.

    Can't hear the dialog

    We bought this to replace our 5 speaker / 1 woofer Sony Receiver that finally burned out after 16 years of great service. We did not replace the speakers/woofer. We tried all kinds of different settings and configurations with the new Sony but never were able to hear the dialog because the background noises were too high. We took it back to Best Buy for a full refund and purchased an Onkyo complete with speakers which works just great! This Sony might work fine for music or gaming but not for movies or TV shows.

    Protect Mode that is all. after 4 months this is the message i get and the receiver shuts off. it doesn't work. i have completed all steps to troubleshoot this piece of crap and it still doesn't work. Now stuck with a 350 dollar paper weight. You would think Sony could put out quality products but nope they sure as heck don't.

    I bought this to replace my old Sony receiver that did not have hdmi and arc capability. I connected it to my new LG tv and my older Bose speakers. It was horrible and the sound was terrible. The Geek Squad tech said it would never be any better. I returned it and purchased a LG sound bar for the same price. Much better now.

    I only had 2 small rear speakers hooked up to the receiver and when a loud sound such as an ambulance came on a show the receiver would shut off with a message of “safety shut down”.

    The Bluetooth stopped working after 1 week then the whole receiver overheated 30 days later and stopped working.
