junk tv. worked great for 5 months then screen went dead still have sound and backlight works just no picture. contacted best buy they were no help cause I didn't buy their warranty. called sony on may 20th they have a tech request out but got my contact info wrong so still waiting for a resolution 2 weeks later. do your self a favor and buy something else. sony is terrible and their support is terrible. 4 thousand dollars for a "high end" tv and it breaks after 5 months. do some research and you will see this failure is becoming more and more frequent. STAY AWAY!

Great Picture, poor remote Arc audio does not work

Replaced an old SXRD Sony 60" from 8 years ago. Tried the 65" 930 model and that picture was good however not like the 940D. Full array backlighting makes a big difference. First one upon delivery had a line all along the right side of the screen and a horizontal line about 6 inches up from the bottom of the screen. Magnolia came out a few days later with a replacement and this one is much better. Remote control is not user friendly, poor design, Arc audio does not work with my 2 year old Yamaha receiver so must use separate fibre optic cable to allow audio to services. Sony 3D nothing like the Samsung. 4 free movies promotion was difficult to set up and must supply credit card info to get promo and only 8 titles to choose from. I wish they would have included the 3D glasses instead of free movies with a $6500 TV. Overall happy with the purchase and would recommend as a great home theater TV with lots of smart features.

I purchased this tv to replace a defective Samsung. I am so sorry I did not buy another Samsung. The picture on this tv is so dark and dull. Called Best Buy Geek Squad tech support and they could not help so I tried Sony. Sony dialed in to my tv and played with the settings but that didn't help either. The HDR works very well but regular tv looks like a $200 tv. This tv is 3 days old. I replaced my tv receiver but that did not help. The picture has no pop to it at all. Not sure what to do.

Tv was nothing but problems. Had friends over for Superbowl, as soon as halftime came screen went black. Never came back. Sony support was no help. All they could offer was do a factory reset. Which did absolutely nothing for my problem. Geek squad came out, evidently with these Sony tv's there is a known issue with the t-con board failing. Too bad for me it was 5 days after the warranty expired. Bought a Samsung to replace it.

Finally a replacement for my 70' Sharp Elite

Have had a love affair with my Pro-70x5fd for many years. Full array local dimming, Elite technology from Pioneer ported over the LED. Gorgeous picture. Heaven! But along comes Sony, and my reticence over the foray into 4k vanishes. Gorgeous colors. Blacks are every bit as deep as on the Elite. Clarity is beyond description. I try not to deal in superlatives in my reviews, but this unit is deserving of them. You simply cannot go wrong with this set, and I highly recommend it.

Picked up this yesterday and the picture quality is excellent. The contrast looks excellent and no blooming on the screen at all. I.m going to get the tv calibrated soon but not sure the picture can get any better. Watching the Masters on Directv in 4K it looks so awesome. I will update after I get more time in front of the tv and after calibration.

    Great 4k TV

After researching 4K smart TV's for about a year I finally settled on this Sony XBR 75X940D. I originally had placed a Samsung 65 inch KS9000 on order while we redid our living room. I decided we had the space to go with a 75" display, and debated between this Sony and a 75" Samsung. I had eliminated the LG Oled's, because of the brightness in our living room and because of cost considerations. It came down to this Sony based in large part, on the recommendations of my salesperson. It has been delivered and hooked up for about a week, and I couldn't be happier. The picture is outstanding, even with normal HD broadcast's. The upscaling is incredible. With 4K content, it is mind blowing. I can't imagine a better choice for the money. Some reviews I read had complained about the remote, but we just use our cable remote. Haven't used 3D yet, so no opinion. We hooked up to our surround system, so I have no idea how the speakers in the TV sound. I'm very glad we opted for the larger display; it does make a big difference. If you can afford this TV, don't think twice......buy it!

Best quality 4K for the size and price

I originally had the 79" Sony from 2014 and was plagued with patchy backlighting issues, so when I saw this full-array backlit model I upgraded in a heartbeat and never looked back. The colors and contrast level are off the charts thanks to HDR and the back vs. edge-lighting. Even now, stacking it up against the new Z9 series I still think the 940D is your best bang for the buck. My only issue is I despise the remote. No individual buttons - just raised bumps that are very imprecise - especially around the D-pad, so navigating Netflix in the dark is a terrible experience. Definitely needs backlighting or real buttons.

    Nice looking TV

My first choice was a Samsung because all of the TV's in my house are. So when I went to best buy there were no reasonable priced Samsung TV's that were in my price range and I only wanted a 70 inch 2016 model. There were none. So I decided to go with Sony. I wasn't sure at first but I do like it since I have it. It has a nice picture. My only complaint is the remote isn't as fancy as Samsung and it's not as user friendly as Samsung. Overall I do like it . Great for the price.

Replaced 55inch Samsung 3D with Sony 75x940d. Veryhappy with purchase. Magnolia did a great job with installation. Only down side is the remote not so friendly. Voice command on the remote either sensitive or just not baked. Would be nice if remote lights up in the dark. Sound quality on this TV is just ok. You would need a sound bar to enjoy full audio. 4K looks awesome! HD looks good if the video source is either bluray or cable. Dish does not look so good. over all A+ for this TV.

    Pretty good TV with weaknesses

This is overall a pretty good television. It have very good picture quality in terms of color and and overall brightness in normal content. HDR content can reach very high brightness level, which is good. Although the brightness is not as high as the complementary 2016 Samsung SUHD televisions, I have yet to notice a difference at such high brightness levels. However, this brings up a big weakness: black levels. Many other customer reviews claim that this television has very good black levels, but I have not found this to be the case. Perhaps they watch the television in bright areas, but I watch in a home theater setting, with close to zero ambient light. Sony used a full-array backlight to power this television, but its algorithm is very conservative in turning off zones. The pro of this is that blooming is near absent in most content. The con is that the black levels are far from good for a television of this caliber. Even turning up local dimming did not alleviate the problem. I am very disappointed by this aspect of the television, especially since this is a full-array backlit television. With dark room viewing, I actually found that the Vizio-P series is better. That being said, the X940D is excellent at upscaling non-HD content (ages better than that of the P-series), and motion handling is good, though the brightness has to be reduced to reduce motion blur (though this may be ubiquitous with LED-backlight TVs). However, a glaring problem is that the motion handling is buggy when streaming content. During content with fast motion, blocks form on the screen. I have not noticed this with blu-rays, so I assume the issue is with software, not hardware, allowing for a firmware update-based solution. The TV has some flashlighting (uneven backlighting) when turning off local dimming and playing back a black screen, but I rarely notice this when watching actual content. Overall, the X940D is a good televison with great color, brightness, upscaling, motion handling, and disappointing contrast levels. It is, in my opinion, the best 75 inch television that you can get for the $6000 price tag for daytime viewing and upscaling. I have yet to see the newly released 75 inch KS9000, so I can't compare to that. I have also had some big problems in trying to get those 4 free movies that should have been redeemable due to promotion that was present during the time I purchased the television. I put in my email and made an account for the Sony Ultra service and still have not received the code for the movies. I have contacted Sony customer service at least four times. They claimed to send two 'official' requests, but I have yet to receive the codes.

Picked this TV up today and was floored by the picture. I originally purchased the Bravia 75X930D and returned it the same day because of the horrible picture quality So glad I opted for the 940D. This is the only LED tv I have ever seen that actually has a better picture than my Panasonic plasma.
