Best TV Ever!!!!!!!!!

I recently bought this TV and it's amazing. I was originally going to purchase 850D but after seeing the amazing picture on the 940D it was a no brainer. Bit the bullet and paid the extra for this one. Well worth the extra "G" and would do it again. Waiting for the 85", to drop and that'll be my next project. Bigger is always "Better"! I recommend this TV to everyone and you won't be disappointed. Best TV in the market in my opinion, especially if you are into sports!

Ultimate Picture Quality!

The picture quality of this television has to be seen to be believed! What makes the picture "pop" is the high contrast ratio. This is possible due to full array local dimming that produces deep blacks that approach the near perfect black level of OLED televisions. However, the maximum brightness of this television exceeds the brightness of what an OLED television can reach, so for me this television was a better choice. This television is 4K, but all high definition sources look great due to the picture quality (wide color gamut, contrast, and brightness). This television is also 75 inches as opposed to a maximum 65 inches available with OLED. The extra 10 inches really makes a difference, if you can accommodate it. This television is expensive but is overall one of the best televisions available in the 75 inch class

This TV has been a great disappointment. It's processor is slow. It has dark spots and lines in the screen which show when it is on or off. It has to be rebooted periodically to play movies on netflix and discovery plus. The remote occasionally quits working. For the money, it has been a disappointment.

We just bought this Sony 4K TV, and are so very happy with it. Although we've not had it a full week yet, we are very pleased with it so far. This TV upgrades the HD programming, which makes it extraordinary. The 4K programming is terrific. The picture quality is just beautiful!

And if a Sony rep would chime in, I would appreciate it. The good.. 4K UHD movies look wonderful on this set. Unquestionably the best my movies have ever looked.
However, the thing that kept this from a 5 star rating is the smearing/ghosting/trailing with dark objects against light backgrounds. Sony rep- is this a software issue, and can it be fixed? It's not just my set, and it happens on ALL sources I have hooked up to it. Lots of people with the set on AVS forums say the same thing. Seems like a huge oversight for such an otherwise premium product. If it can't be corrected through firmware, I may have to look at other tvs...

I would rate this TV at its current price as the "best bang for the buck" set going right now. This set is easily worth the $1k more over the 850D for its local dimming and overall better picture. Compared to the LG's and Samsungs at Costco, Same Club etc, they are no where near what this set can deliver. I think the only way you can do better is stepping significantly up in price to a Z9 or really significantly up in price to a 77" OLED. The 940D hits the sweetspot.
If you think 75" is too big, its not. Its just right!!
I returned a B6 for this set. The LG OLED had a better overall picture than the 940D but not by a much.
The remote control is weak but I don't use it anyway.
This thing delivers the goods. Get one!

This tv looks stunning, and has a ton of features, but there are too many issues for a tv at this price point.
1. It runs android tv, like the nvidia shield console. The problem is that it can crash, and do other quirky things. You could be watching youtube on it, and between videos, Android can crash, and your tv is rebooting. Apps like fox now will fail to recognize your Internet connection while netflix runs fine, and is stuck that way until you reinstall the app. Another quirk is that the ARC will fail to send audio to the receiver sometimes after starting up. You can go into the audio options, disable/enable home theatre sound to fix it, or hold the power button on the remote for 10 seconds to reboot.
2. Lack of "game mode". You can spend time disabling picture features to try to eliminate latency, but it's still slower to respond than my older Samsung. Playing games like rock band can be very frustrating if you don't disable every picture feature, and spend extra time calibrating, which still has a higher latency than any other tv I've ever had.
3. Light blooming. This is a side effect of a full array panel instead of an oled. Dark screens with text bloom light for the lit areas. Noticeable most while gaming, or credit scenes in movies.
4. Dark corners. Related to #3, the 4 corners of the display to not have even light compared to the rest of the tv. In a single bright color across the screen, the corners are noticeably darker.
5. Ghosting. No amount of picture settings appear to resolve this. The response rate is pretty bad for such an expensive tv. This is noticeable when scrolling through options on the android tv. When playing older 2d games like super Mario world, it can be very distracting when mario jumps across a bright background, as he leaves a ghosted trail behind him.
I like the tv, 4k hdr content looks great on it, but i can't recommend anyone pay what is being asked for it. It doesn't feel like i got my money's worth.

Just swapped 65X930D for 75X940D to get bigger screen. Both models have beautiful picture and colors, just pleasure to watch. I love bigger size of 940. It was easy to connect it and have it running. No issues, no problems. Delivery was as promised, on time. So far very happy.

The Sony Bravia 4K HDR is not good for motion!!

This is a great TV, but there is one HUGE issue. It will buffer during sporting/motion events. It is not my network as I have had this issue with standard cable with 300 + upload and 40 download. I now have fiber optic, and my speed is 1 gig and still the same issues. If you have motion that you are watching, you will be having an issue. I will be getting rid of this TV.

2021-1227: Great TV. We bought it in Nov. 2016. We have enjoyed it all these years. Great picture quality. The newer TV may have better software options but this one still has adequate android tv smart engine. I wish sw could be upgraded to latest features of Sony TVs.

I bought this tv and ended up returning it about a week later. The pixels and motion blur was too distracting. Very grainy for a tv with this price tag. I definitely expected better. If you're an average person who doesn't care about detail, this may not be a bad purchase, but for the person that has a sharp eye and loves that crisp detail, stay away. I have a 65" Panasonic plasma and I guess I'm spoiled and I love the detail of my Panasonic. I'd say OLED is the best picture you can get, but you're going to shell out a little more cash for it. Wait and save. If you want the best picture, go with OLED. It will be worth the wait.

Awful 3D Ghosting, Very buggy firmware, HDR issues
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
After using my new TV for a full day, I have found a lot of problems with it.
Not only is the 3D by far the worst I've ever seen in terms of unwatchable amounts of ghosting, but there a a bunch of faults with the firmware and HDR. This is the case EVEN AFTER I updated to the latest firmware on 4/10/2017.
1) TV frequently completely crashes (powers down and reboots) whenever sending it an HDR signal from 4K Blu-Ray. Using a Samsung 4K UHD player. You can be watching tv, seeing the blu ray on screen no problem during the disc menu. But, as soon as you start playing HDR video (for example, selecting the HDR version of the film from the disc's top menu when the disc has this option) the TV sometimes immediately crashes and reboots.
2) Often fails to play HDR from streaming apps such as youtube. The Auto Picture Mode fails to switch to HDR video mode. The only way I could get it to work was to force-feed it HDR video from a blu-ray disc first. This will get it to detect HDR and auto-select HDR mode. Then, I can switch to one of the onboard apps such as youtube, and it will remember that is was in HDR mode from the blu-ray disc and stay in HDR mode. I had to do this every single time and was the only way I could get it to play HDR from a source other than blu-ray.
3) Continuing from #2 above, if you try manually putting it in HDR mode and playing an HDR video from an app such as youtube, it makes the picture look bizarre (almost as if it is trying to apply an HDR brightness curve to a non-hdr source). For example, anything remotely near white is totally clipped and bleached. Any dark areas of the picture are made jet black. All of the colors in between are massively oversaturated and grotesquely inaccurate in hue. This happens every single time you try to manually select HDR picture mode for an app-based video. It does do HDR properly (only sometimes! see below) from an app on the rare occasions when it auto-selects the HDR picture mode.
4) Notwithstanding the above, often times even when it "seems" to have auto-selected HDR mode for HDR streaming content (i.e the auto-picture mode is ON and the picture mode is showing "HDR Video", it is STILL not actually displaying HDR, even though it says it is. Clicking into the picture mode selection menu as if you were going to change it will then instantly cause it to switch to HDR video mode. It was SHOWING that it was in HDR Video mode, but actually wasn't displaying that mode until you click on it in the menu. And, as above, when you do, this is essentially a manual mode selection and you have the same problem I described above any time you manually select HDR Video mode- massive clipping of white and black, grotesque color saturation and completely wrong hues (green when supposed to be pink etc.)
5) While it seemed to always play HDR video from 4K HDR Blu-ray (although sometimes the TV would crash and reboot whenever fed an HDR Blu-ray source), it was extremely rare that I could get it to actually display in HDR when playing streaming apps, regardless of whether it autoselected HDR Video mode or not. I used an HDR test video that puts white squares in the middle of the screen, and the squares increase in brightness every 5 seconds. first square is 100 nits, second square is 400 nits, third square is 1000 nits, etc. Standard SDR is a max of 400 nits, HDR is a minimum of 1000 nits max brightness. The TV would usually only show the increasing brightness up to 400 nits, and after that the test pattern would get no brighter. In other words, it was only displaying SDR even when HDR Video mode was selected and it was being fed a 4K HDR source. But, once in a blue moon it would work correctly and looked spectacular when it did. Note that this paragraph applies to streaming HDR video from the built in apps. I did not have these problems playing HDR from 4K BD discs. That always worked fine except for causing the TV to shut down and reboot on occasion.
5) When the TV is in home screen mode (where you see all the apps and HDMI sources to choose from) the Picture Adjustment menus (brightness/contrast/etc.) are not accessible. This is normal. The problem is, intermittently and frequently the TV "thinks" it is in the home screen mode when it is not, and won't let you access the various menus. For example, you can be watching a movie or youtube video, and try to bring up a menu, and the TV will throw a message on screen saying "Not available in home screen" (verbiage approximate from memory).
6) Frequent freezes and hiccups of the Android TV user interface, even with the latest software updates installed as of April 10, 2017.
7) The TVs real Achilles heel is bad ghosting on 3D material- the worst I've seen. The 3D is far better on my 2009 Mitsubishi DLP. I tried the Sony glasses, as well as RF glasses from Samsung and Xpand. Same problem on all. Worse yet, on the Samsung and Xpand glasses, there was a bizarre throbbing/pulsating brightness effect. Never seen anything like it on any other active 3D system. Not flicker, this has about a 2Hz beat. The Sony glasses didn't have this problem, but the others did. Unfortunately the other glasses were much more comfortable and had a wider view (unobstructed by glasses frames) compared to the Sony, but I couldn't stand the throbbing.
Also note that regarding the horrendous 3D ghosting, I tried every combination of motion effects/auto contrast etc. and all image processing settings, tried every possible 3D depth setting, and tried 6 different pairs of 3D glasses from 3 different manufacturers, and all had unwatchable amounts of ghosting whenever there were a) objects against dark backgrounds, b) objects against backgrounds that were similar color/had little contrast compared to the subject, or c) whenever an object came far out of the screen toward you. I have had several active 3D sets of both LCD/LED and DLP varieties and I've NEVER seen 3D crosstalk this bad.
TV is stunning on quality HDR sources. Colors are spectacular especially on HDR but even HD SDR as well. The poor gray uniformity mentioned in other reviews is accurate. It doesn't bother me much on most program material, but it does bother me a bit that it exists on a high end expensive TV. Some minor clouding is noticeable against black backgrounds, but still pretty good. If you are off axis or close to the TV you can really see light bleed effects from the local dimming. But hardly noticeable most of the time when centered and at a suitable distance from the screen.

This TV is barely bright enough for HDR content. It's selling at a pretty decent price for the size you get but it falls short on offering the best that 4K HDR programming has to offer.

My Sony xbr75x940c TV costing over 8000.00 just failed after 2 months past warranty. TV successfully went through numerous updates and got noticeable better, then just yesterday turned off with the death nail red flashing lights. Resets didn't accomplish anything, calling Sony service was a joke,. Using their recommendation for their social service another joke. So wishing me good luck trying to find a service repair person to fix this they said 'good luck's. So AVOID Sony with a passion.

Great TV. Bad Best Buy Customer Service

Did my research. Stopped in at my local Best Buy, rounded up a sales associate and made a $6,500 purchase within 10 minutes. Easiest sell for them ever considering the sales person knew nothing about the TV. Great TV. Totally happy with the performance. 17 days after the install price was reduced by $500. Inquired locally and with Best Buy online about a credit. Local Best Buy gave me a no and Best Buy customer support has yet to respond within 72 hours as promised. Read online that others have received credits after 30 days or so. Will just use Amazom Prime for my next purchase.
