Im trying to love this TV. Its far better than the Samsung Q80a, but i get a lot of reflective light if blinds are open, or if a little light is in the background, although apparently this is supposed to be anti reflective. Not sure if its a bad panel, or if Sony lied. Trying to figure out if i should find another TV instead

Overall, this appears to be a great TV so far. I purchased the TV a few days ago, and spent the last day optimizing the settings (learning the settings) for movies and regular OTA TV. After the two days of watching, here are my impressions: Build Quality: Top notch. Very heavy TV, feels very solid. From a novice's point of view, I don't see any "dirty screen effect" or anything on the screen that appears an imperfection. Motion: Mixed bag: - When I watched Black Widow via Disney+, with Motion set at 1, clearness 1, and Cinemotion maxed, overall, fairly pleased with the look of the movie. - Watching football/auto racing via OTA, if motion settings are off or at 1, the judder/stutter makes impossible to watch. When setting motion at 2 or 3, the amount of artifacts is very surprising, and very distracting. For a TV/company that is the top of class for motion, I'm not very impressed with OTA viewing. - When watching HDR demos via YouTube with motion at 2, it seems perfect - very few artifacts and very smooth. - In summary, I think this TV needs a decent signal. While the upscaling is great for OTA, the artifacts the upscaling/motion interpolation create are unacceptable. If watching a great signal (4K Blue-Ray, HDR via YouTube or Disney+, it works great. HDR: Incredible. The colors are amazing and the brightness is all you would ever want. Any brighter and I'd have to turn brightness down. Black Levels/Blooming: I'm VERY VERY impressed. I hardly notice any blooming in the top/bottom bars. Is it there - yes, but it does not draw your attention. I have Local Dimming on "medium". Upscaling: Amazing Sound: Incredible for a stock sound system. If you don't want to buy an external sound system, this will get the job done. Color: Very natural - no desire after seeing picture to spend money to calibrate...everything looks right to me Reliability: This is the big question. I had a 950G and had to return in 2019...a complete lemon; audio dropping, system crashing. Waited 2 years for Sony to figure out the glitches and now jumping back in. 2 days in, no issues yet, but bought the 2Yr warranty just in case due to my experience with 950G. Size: I wanted to feel as if I am "in" the scene, vs. "watching" the scene, so went with 75". I watch from 8.5ft away, and it is PERFECT! I wouldn't go an inch bigger, but it is definitely not too big for that distance. With the 4K, I don't see the individual pixels, which is amazing. Main point: Between an LG C1, the Samsung QN90A, and the Sony X95J, after watching for the past 2 days, I would still choose the Sony X95J - it is amazing.

When I met the deliverymen at the curb all they could say was “man this is a heavy television”, That made me smile because there are no reviews of this tv yet. So many tv’s today are poorly built, plasticky and wobble like crazy. Once inside, unboxing and setup was a joy. No issues whatsoever! I turned the unit on and was like, meh. Not a good first impression. Thoughts immediately went to Sony a80j and lg c1. Oh, no! Knowing this is an enthusiasts unit, I decided to dust myself off and dive into the settings. I aimed for the most impact with the least changes. I turned off light sensor. Nothing changed for my viewing environment. Hmm, maybe Sony’s works well. Will try later. There is a setting called peak luminance. It was off. This setting is where the action is. I turned it from low-med-high. Ah, much better for my lighted room. There is also an hdr setting for gradation or brightness preferred. Nice option to have for light/dark room viewing. I use ota antenna, ps5 and Nintendo Switch mostly. Google tv offers a basic tv option at setup that is truly appreciated by cord cutters like me. No ads or fluff. I popped in a bluray I have seen tons of times and sat back. Honestly, I was taken aback. Cognitive XR processor is not marketing hype. Textures, faces, objects and lighting all had a subtle three-dimensionality. Combine that with Sony’s excellent color and good brightness, this is an engaging television. This tv did not get in the way of my viewing experience. I began to notice the XR processor at work on background objects and textures that really added to the liveliness of the picture. Blue skies with clouds in particular looked stunning. Skin tones and clothing looked so realistic. Man, I would love to see the Z9j and 83” a90j in person. For what this tv was designed to do, the black levels and blooming are not distracting, and I have an oled tv. Bias lighting may be in order for some. This is not miniLED. I only buy mature technology/miniLED is new to market. Guinea pig I am not. This tv was the only one that checked all the boxes for me. Lcd. Hdmi 2.1 next gen tuner. Narrow stand option. No vignetting in corners. Minimal dirty screen effect. Good bright room performer. Great build quality with cable management. Dolby vision. Game mode looks as good as other modes. Good off angle viewing. Google OS. Nintendo Switch looks fantastic on this big set. Oled televisions are superior, I admit that. But the punchy brightness of an led/lcd really brings out the kid in me.

Purchased the X95j 75" and I don't regret it. This tv is very bright. Has a little blooming when white is against black screen but don't see it during normal use. Read many people complaining of a grid pattern on the 75" and 85" models. I can say I see no grid pattern compared to the LG C1 I returned. Picture quality is almost spot on out of the box. The motion technology is fan just right most of the time I turn it off immediately but sony nailed the perfect balance there XR processor technology. Highly recommend this sony or any sony model. The black levels are just about oled level.

Wow!! This TV fit my needs perfectly with it's viewing angles, brightness and awesome color. Now on to the details. The room for the TV has a wide viewing angle for watching, many windows that face west so once the afternoon hits a lot of light comes in. Blinds can only do so much. Originally I had a LG OLED CX and while the reflection handling was pretty good, being an OLED it just couldn't get bright enough to overcome the glare. Viewing angles were awesome, but the glare. I did some research online and listened to reviews (HDTVTest and StopTheFOMO are really great youtubers, highly recommended) and due to their input and my use cases it took me from the TCL/HiSense/Vizio realm in to the Samsung/Sony realm simply due to being able to use a VA panel with a wide viewing angle. I went in and looked at IPS panels with the LG QNED 90 and the Samsung QN85A, but the LG had to much blooming and the Samsung had the rainbow reflection. The Sony was on sale a lot, and darn if it didn't fit all the needs perfectly and look awesome. So there you go. This TV works great in a bright room, has awesome viewing angles, and when it gets dark it still has the chops. Is it near an OLED in black level? Nope. But I'll still take it for my use case.

This TV is for your if you check the following boxes. 1). You have a bright living room. Bright enough that you are concerned that even the brightest of OLEDs that Sony is selling this year are not bright enough. 2). You are concerned about burn-in of your OLEDs if you constantly have the same thing on your display. I like to display my personal images as wallpaper. I am coming from the Sony Z9D so I am fully aware of what a Full Array LED is. The TV was getting a little long in the tooth and was not up to the current standards. In my current setup, I have an apple tv 4k connected to the TV via a high speed HDMI cable and a Sonos speaker system connected by HDMI eARC. The setup works seamlessly. Note that you have to setup menu to get Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision to work respectively, but once setup you don't have to worry about any programming of the visuals. The TV shows you how it was intended to be seen by the creator of the media. I got the 75" version of the TV as that's the only size that was currently available. I am coming from a 65" TV and I had to change my mount because this was about 20% heavier. You will need help as this TV is 100lbs+ in weight. I don't know how it compared to the 85J or the 90J. I am sure that the difference will be incremental. However, this is an investment for the next few years so I didn't mind the splurge to get the best of the lot.

So my first impressions with the Sony X95J is that it’s a very nice tv with some lacking gaming features for the price. Pros - The Brightness on the X95J is fantastic especially in HDR , watching 4K blu rays Especially in Dolby Vision is incredible. Something about Dolby Vision bright on this tv really makes you appreciate having Dolby Vision . Looking at you Samsung Qn90a which FYI does not have Dolby Vision ,Dumb move imo. Now on sound I recommend at least a sound bar due to the fact that the tv speakers have a tinny sound an no matter what these company’s do to the speakers theirs just no room in these thin tvs to add an immersive surround sound that at least a sound bar with rear speakers can do . FYI I started with a sound bar a while back and then to 5.1.4 Klipsch Reference primer speakers and a Yamaha avr and will NEVER go back to tv speakers !!! So do yourself a favor an at least get a sound bar . Anyways back to sound , the EARC works a lot better than last years models FYI I also own a Sony X900H which constantly had earc issues like audio drop outs and no sound what so ever had to reset tv constantly for this . Now on X95J I can watch a full movie without any audio dropouts , But their still there just a lot less . Like it hasn’t happened for a few days now . Now on to gaming, picture quality and brightness on the X95J is really what I got it for . X900H , A90J vs the X95J there’s no comparison imho when comes to gaming X900H does not do real 4K 120 fps an not even close in brightness to the X95J also no smooth gradation settings. A90J while it’s an incredible tv for everything except sports and gaming that’s where the X95J takes the burden from A90J imho . A90J dimms constantly while gaming mainly sports games that I have played like nba 2k or madden. X95J does not have that issue the picture stays nice an bright with no dimming. The picture settings for any mode are there to use as well no grey outs like some tv manufacturers. Only game mode has like only 2 settings grey out for input lag I’m assuming. Anyways the cons not many the blooming is a little more than I would like but it’s not distracting it’s more noticeable on menus or loading screens or movies or shows with subtitles if that’s the case I recommend using local dimming on high for that type of content and medium for the rest . Reason for 4 stars is I have to take the X95J back an exchange it for another one due to one I got has vertical lines and some spots that flicker on top part of the screen which sucks . Having to take apart a 75 inch tv an rebox it is no fun. Hope this helps anyone interested in this tv . Be safe everyone God Bless.

The Sony X95J is without a doubt an amazing TV. I purchased it for my father in law and I was happy to see that the picture it produces is excellent. To start, this LCD TV is bright. Colors are rich and give a sense of depth to the picture. At the same time the Sony produces very deep blacks. The backlight control on this TV is impressive. Very little blooming is visible and near black detail is preserved. For the price, the Sony X95J is good deal. Installation by the Best Buy magnolia team went great. They installed the TV and cleaned everything up when they left. This particular TV is highly recommended.

I’ve been a diehard Sony fan my entire adult life. In my experience Sony TVs always look great right out of the box, needing few to no adjustments, and their dvd and Blu-Ray players have always worked without issue, never needing to be repaired or replaced due to failure. So when I decided to pull the trigger on a new big-screen 4K TV and 4K player I knew I’d go with Sony. After some debate over model and size, I ultimately ordered the 75” X95J and the UBP-X700 4K player from Best Buy. Once delivered, my wife and I unpacked the TV and we were immediately impressed by its solid build and weight (setting up this TV is not a one-person job). After connecting the TV to the player I fired up my first movie and as usual I was very impressed by the picture. And additionally the sound was very good for built-in speakers. However, things quickly deteriorated from there. About two-thirds of the way into the movie the player froze. I stopped and restarted the movie, only to have it freeze several more times before the movie ended. I ran the player over to my local Best Buy and exchanged it for the same model, assuming I just got the rare defective unit. But after getting back home and putting on another movie, the replacement player also froze. A quick google search revealed that this specific player suffers from overheating issues that cause it to freeze when playing multi-layered 4K discs. The only suggested diy remedy is to place the player on a baking rack (or something similar) to allow airflow under the unit. This “fix” resolved the freezing issue with the player, but unfortunately my TV woes were yet to begin. A couple of days later I was watching the TV on a sunny late afternoon. The TV has a fairly reflective surface, and as the sunlight moved through the room I noticed what looked like a partial handprint on the screen. I’m very careful not to touch a TV screen unless absolutely necessary, so I didn’t know how this was possible. Upon closer examination I discovered that in fact there were two smudges. Using a microfiber cloth I carefully attempted to wipe away the marks, but they wouldn’t budge. The surface felt perfectly smooth, nothing sticky or greasy. I then realized that these smudges were on the other side of the screen, only visible in certain lighting. I called Best Buy, explained the situation, and they scheduled an in-home exchange for the following week (Best Buy was great through this process). So a week later we packed up the TV and made the exchange. After unpacking the replacement X95J, I closely examined it for any markings and could find nothing. So I connected it to the 4K player and put on a movie. This movie contained many scenes set in the sky with big blocks of solid pale blue color. And it was during these scenes that I noticed a faint grid-like pattern in the image, which became even more noticeable when the camera would pan or tilt. I jumped over to YouTube and pulled up an all white screen. Sure enough the ghostly grid pattern of the LED panel could be seen in many areas of the screen. Through another google search I discovered that many buyers were complaining of the same grid pattern on their new X95Js, visible in scenes that included areas of solid or near solid color, which became worse when there was camera movement. So after spending well over $3000 I’m left with a 4K player that needs to sit on a baking rack so it doesn’t overheat, and a big screen 4K TV that has a beautiful picture unless that picture includes areas of solid color, in which case a grid pattern becomes visible, dramatically marring the image. Some may find this pattern a minor distraction, but for me (and apparently many of these other reviewers) it is very annoying. And at this price such an issue, minor or not, is unacceptable. I mean what’s the point of having a beautiful big screen TV, only to have the image compromised by the TV itself? For a brief time I considered exchanging this set for yet another, but quite a few reviewers claimed to have done the same only to end up with a set that was just as bad if not worse. So after already going through the hassle of one exchange, I decided life is too short to play the panel lottery. Odds are keeping this set is the lesser evil. All this said, a majority of the time the TV looks great. However, because of my experience with both the TV and the 4K player, Sony will no longer be my automatic choice as it had been up to this point. And I will definitely investigate all of my options before making my next TV and media player purchase.
