I have this TV in a dark room with ceiling lights that dim. The reflection of the lights and the “streaks” from the light are anoying. Take a small pint of light ans drag it across 1/4 of the screen is sub par for Sony

I've owned this TV for over a month now, and I can say without any hesitation that it's simply an amazing product!
For transparency's sake, I'm not one who swaps out my flagship TV frequently, so the one this replaced (another Sony LCD) had some age and miles on it. I went back and forth on whether to get another LCD/LED set or move to OLED, but decided on the former given the TV's position in my living room and our intended use for it.
The average person should have no problem putting this against an OLED for picture quality - it's THAT good. The black levels are remarkable for this technology, and I've noticed no blooming - something I was legitimately worried about given my girlfriend's (unfortunate) desire to watch movies with subtitles. The colors are rich and vibrant, and the brightness allows you to practically see the TV from space. I've noticed no issues with motion, either, which used to be one of the drawbacks with the tech. I appreciate Sony allowing the user to turn motion smoothing off and even offering a 'low' setting for a middle ground. The viewing angles were better than I'd anticipated, too, given the fact that LED sets typically offer worse performance in that area compared to OLED. The audio is SUPPOSED to be great, but admittedly I haven't tried it due to using it with a receiver and speakers, instead.
The TV looks fantastic across a wide array of content, but REALLY shines with HDR content and 4K discs. I spent the last month gorging myself on horror movies I'd been collecting, and going from B&W movies like Dracula and Psycho to modern stuff like Train to Busan and Longlegs was a treat - this TV made it all SHINE.
Any flaws? Well, for me I had lip sync issues watching content via streaming and disc initially, but I was able to get them resolved. Whether it was an issue between my BD player (Sony) or AVR (Onkyo) not wanting to play nice or not, both have delay options that allowed me to fix the problem, so just a heads up there. Also, a lot of people knock the price. Totally understandable, but also totally subjective. The Bravia 9 is definitely not what I'd call a VALUE TV, but I'd definitely say it's worth it given its performance compared to other flagship TV's.
Overall, so glad I decided to pull the trigger on this TV. If you're a movie person like I am, it's a no brainer.

This is an excellent TV to watch HDR movies. Its high brightness results in more intense specular highlights and better viewing in well-lit living rooms. Moreover, it provides a well-balanced picture with accurate colors; you may not see the need to calibrate it. With a 2.2.2-channel speaker system, the sound is superb. You may decide not to purchase a sound bar, although I recommend the Sony Theater Quad (HT-A9M2). And, if your choice is to place the TV on a console, rather than mount it on a wall, Sony provides four options to install the included metal feet (two heights and two positions). LG does not provide a base or feet with its 83” G4. However, a base is sold separately. Overall, the LG G4 might be better a TV but, at the time of this review the price of the 83” LG G4 is $1,300 higher than that of the 85” Sony BRAVIA 9. While the LG G4 may provide wider viewing angles, a near-infinite contrast ratio, deeper blacks, and zero blooming, in my view the picture of the LG G4 is not $1,300 better. No TV is perfect; you have to decide what features and characteristics matter the most.

I've been waiting for a "break though" upgrade for a number of years and finally pulled the trigger on the Bravia 9 85". Sony 77A95L was my original thought but wanted a bigger screen size for my room.
Huge improvement over previous Sony 79X900B and provides a great competitive option to OLED especially if you have a bright room.
Out of the box the professional mode picture setting is very accurate. Using the picture settings you can finetune the TV to deliver a stunning picture for you room / preferences.
My panel was clean; no marks, aberrations or stuck/dead pixels. No bugs or software glitches. Update was simple.
Dolby Vision and HDR10 provide brilliant picture quality.
The screen does have a special coating that will appear reflective when off, but once the TV is on a non issue for me. If you have lights directly in front of the TV you could/will see some reflections.
Viewing angle is very good for this panel ... but not as good as OLED or QD-OLED ... this is expected. Not an issue for my seating positions.
This is hooked up to my Denon A1H in a 9.4.4 home theatre set-up. Makes for a perfect addition to my recent upgrades. So built-in sound / speaker quality was not important to me and my reference for sound quality is not a fair comparison.
Sony XR processing is second to none and worth the premium.
Overall very satisfied.
Thank you for the purchase! We're happy to hear that you like the OLED picture quality and smart features of the TV. We appreciate the 5-star rating and thank you for choosing Sony!

The picture quality on this TV is fantastic. Blooming is almost nonexistent. Black bars on wide-scope movies stay black, even against very bright scenes. The biggest criticism is that the X-Wide angle treatment for improving off—angle viewing also causes the dreaded rainbow effect from lighthouses in the room in dark scenes. These rainbow effects seem much more noticeable than on my 4-year old 75” Sony that has the X-Wide filter as well. Essentially you do need to control light in your room to avoid the rainbows. This is pretty much the case with all TVs. They all try to deal with light reflection differently and with different negative trade-offs. I would still recommend this TV. I would advise Sony to go less aggressive with the treatment used on their screens.

Tv is great, brighter and sharper, with very good sound. Only complaint is that the screen reflects everything in front of it even if there is no direct light in front of it. So, in scenes involving night times, you can see your place reflected on the blackness of the screen . The anti reflective coating sony is touting about is worthless.
It's fantastic to hear you're enjoying the brightness, sharpness, and outstanding sound quality. We're glad these key features are making a difference in your viewing experience.
We understand your frustration with the screen reflection. The anti-reflective coating is designed to minimize glare from direct light sources, but due to the high peak brightness and glossy finish required for deep black levels and vibrant colors, some environmental reflections can still be visible, especially in dark scenes. We know this can be distracting, and we'll certainly pass your feedback on to our product team.
For the best viewing experience, we recommend adjusting your room's lighting or using curtains to block outside light. You might also consider repositioning the TV to minimize reflections from windows or other light sources.
Thanks again for choosing Sony!
Sincerely, Jenn | Sony Social Media Team.

I purchased the 85" version of the Bravia 9 since it has more dimming zones in relation to size (than the 75" and 65") and the results are, I think, noticeable. These thousands of dimming zones combined with the step-dimming Mini-LED technology produces blacks that are exceptionally deep and blooming which is not perceptible. The brightness and contrast are great, colors are vibrant but accurate, and the Sony upscaling is amazing. There are reviews elsewhere that go into more detail but I am certainly pleased with the amount of control I have to dial in the picture settings to my liking and the TV makes movies I have viewed dozens of times look new again in ways I have not seen before.
Also, I have the TV matched with a Sony HT-A7000 Soundbar, SA-SW5 Subwoofer, SA -RS5 Surrounds, and when using the TV's speakers for Acoustic Center Sync the combined audio is simply enveloping!

This tv has the best of both worlds- super dark contrast and great brightness. The picture quality is elite. To me the A95 OLED has a slightly better picture due to contrast, but (1) this tv is super close to that and makes up for it in brightness as well (2) Sony OLED maxes out at 77” - this TV is the only way to get that ELITE picture and have it 8” bigger to start getting into the HUGE picture size. I have many high end viewing areas (including a dedicated 106” theater) - my favorite is the 85” Sony Bravia 9.

This TV is really the best of both worlds - OLED, and Mini-LED. The picture quality is wonderful, and as a flagship sony TV, it has all the bells and whisltes, (including 10 free credits of their Sony Core streaming service - super high quality A/V).
This TV gets BRIGHT! The highlights on HDR movies and video games are insane, and it still maintains OLED-like black levels.
This is such a great TV
You made the right choice! We're thrilled that you like the picture quality and Sony Pictures Core app of the TV. Thank you for choosing Sony!

Sony Bravia 9 (85-inch) Review – A King Among TVs

The 85-inch Sony Bravia 9 delivers stunning picture quality, combining incredible detail, powerful processing, and vibrant colors on a massive scale. For a TV of this size, it’s remarkable how sharp and immersive the image remains, whether you’re watching in a bright living room or settling in for a cinema-style movie night.
Dolby Vision is particularly impressive, offering deep contrast and lifelike highlights. Sony also provides excellent control over HDR and SDR settings, allowing fine-tuning for any viewing environment. Unlike OLEDs, which can struggle in well-lit rooms, the Bravia 9 excels in all lighting conditions, making it the perfect all-around display for any setting.
Until OLED technology can match this level of brightness and versatility, the Sony Bravia 9 remains the king of my home theater setup.

Love this TV. Super bright, great contrast, deep black levels that rival OLED, with no blooming. I compared it against the LG G4, I own both and prefer the Bravia 9.

Coming from an OLED, I don't miss the OLED. There is one small downside to this mini-LED though. With full screen, bright color images, there is vignetting on the sides and top corners of the image. It's not too distracting, but it's there. I guess it's the price you pay to not worry about burn-in. The brightness, colors, and clarity of the image are unmatched. Off-axis viewing is as good as my old Sony OLED too.
The sound quality is great for TV speakers, but I'm still using a soundbar.
