An amazing tv with class leading motion handlinh
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.PRIMARY USES: living room tv. Used for about 8 -10 hours a day. Paired with a ps5 and a sony hta5000 sound bar and sub. REVIEW: really do love this tv. I will say im a little bias towards sony tvs because of the amazing upscaling and motion handling but you really can go wrong with this tv. It has 2 hdmi 2.1 ports 120hz and supports vrr. It doesnt have a ton of local dimming zones but very rarely do you notice them and when you do its on stuff like the roku screen saver. During normal viewing you wont notice them turning off and on. One cool feature about the tv is when its paired with a sony soundbar you can use the tvs speakers as a center channel in combination with the soundbar for a fuller sounding wall of sound. It works really well and makes dialogue come across clear. CONS: the one downside to this tv is it doesnt get terrible bright so it may struggle in dark scenes in a brightly light room. You only notice this during dark scenes though, during mid day sun. Overall i highly recommend this tv over the samsung qn90

Posted .Hi LordMuffin,
Thank you so much for the 5-star rating! Glad to know you love the your X90K. Your satisfaction with the upscaling, motion handling and using the TV speaker a s a center speaker are greatly appreciated. We're sorry if you barely notice the local dimming features. To achieve the best picture quality, we recommend not exposing the screen to direct illumination or sunlight and avoiding installing the TV in a room with reflective walls and floor materials. Also, this TV has picture settings has which allow a wide array of changes to color, contrast, motion settings, and brightness that can improve the viewed content on your TV. Sony TVs are top tier
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Amazing picture and overall quality, very pleased. Best money can buy without spending the most unnecessary amount. I was keen on getting a Sony and the highest quality that I could. I personally did not want to spend 4 thousand for a tv, so the Sony mini LED was out of the question. I considered the Sony OLED but the drawbacks included smaller size, higher cost, and the possibility of burn in. Having previously owned a Samsung that had defects, I wanted to change brands. Plus the Samsung and LG selection did not impress in terms of most affordable price to highest quality tradeoff. This Sony X90K was everything I was looking for in terms of quality for the price.

Beautiful but complicated.
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nice sized TV, vibrant colors. However, the blacks are a bit washed out by the light. There's a little bit of white wash in the picture. The sound is really good. My major complaints are the OS and storage. I had to buy a firestick because with all the apps I use (8), there wasn't enough space. With that, the more apps I had the slower the TV responded. Which leads me to the OS. Sometimes the TV just freezes. I have to get up and hold down the power button on the TV for nearly a minute so it will hard reboot. I have to do this maybe once every 6 weeks or so. If it doesn't freeze completely then it just responds extremely slowly. At that point, I have to hope I can access the system settings tab and click the restart option before the TV actually freezes again. I wouldn't buy this again.

Sony doesn't disappoint!!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolutely love this tv. To me, best of both words in terms of brightness/vivid colors and deep blacks. Sound quality on these thin TVs take a big hit but not too bad on this sony if u tweak the equalizer. Throwing on some 4k content and I am completely blown away. This tv displayed in the store does absolutely no justice for it, whatsoever! Smart tv settings look great, set up is very well done. The Google tv mashing everything u stream from together is very convenient. I added the Sony HT-A5000 soundbar and the Sony sa-rs5 wireless rear speakers and BOOM...... home theater that brings a huge smile to my face. Works amazingly, connects as soon as I turn the TV on.

Excellent Large Non OLED
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent TV thus far. Black levels are great. Motion blur is non-existent for sports which is a huge plus for me. Picture is crisp and vibrant. I do feel there a lot adjustments that can be made to appease most videophiles. Due to the size (85” version) I do seem to notice smaller details in the background I just didn’t notice on smaller screens… which makes it that much better. This thing really stands out when when viewing high quality 4k/UHD feeds. I’ve had the TV for about 3 weeks thus far and it is highly impressive for a non OLED.

It's not an OLED
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall I am happy with the set. When you compare features and performance this set offers the best bang for your buck. Currently I have a 55" OLED in the bedroom and it's absolutely stunning. However needed a bigger set for the theater. Initially I was looking at going OLED again, but the price is still very high for OLED. I saw an LG QNED online, and curiosity got me looking more into the technologies on standard LED. Given the larger screen and lower cost I was intrigued, so made a trip into the local store to check out the sets. We looked at LG QNED 80 and 85 and Sony X85 and X90. In the LG we couldn't really tell a difference between the 80 and 85. However, the LG still struggled with Black (all non OLED will struggle with Black, I knew this going in) and in looking at the Sony, it handles the black much better. Another nice thing about the Sony is that they include Dolby Vision on the 85 series which was $1,700 compared to the LG at 2k, which didn't include Dolby Vision, if you wanted the Dolby vision in LG you were at $2,300. The vibrance of color is noticeable in Dolby Vision compared to HDR10. You can find HDR10 in a $999 85" mediocre picture quality tv, so it's nothing special. Dolby vision on the other hand provides about 6 billion colors vs the 2 billion in HDR10, it just makes everything brighter and more vibrant. The XR processor vs X1 processor is about 5% more powerful from what I was able to figure out in research, while it may not sound like much, I definitely noticed the color was much richer and motion was smoother and it had better contrast and detail, especially in blacks. Still not as good as OLED, but this was about 90% compared to OLED 100%. Many of the less expensive sets are 30 to 40% of OLED in black performance. So for size of scree and quality of image, I am very happy with what I paid, it does an excellent job, lot's of features, and of course it's Sony who is known for television and video performance. However a couple of items that I am going to be critical about, and the reason I ultimately gave this set 4 stars in side of 5, and no it's not because it's to OLED that wouldn't be fair, it is areas what were a struggle with set. For starters the initial configuration was a pain, and ultimately to get decent performance you needed to configure with google, kind of a pain, and there's a lot of things you can't opt out of. Clicked a wrong button in initial set up and ultimately we ended up needing to do a factory reset and try and again (in Defense of Sony, we also did find that the cable went bad). This alone wouldn't justify knocking it down to 4 stars. Now that the set is configured and running it's great. However, the reason for deducting 1 star is that the set occasionally struggles with the FIRETV stick, occasionally the picture would stutter and wasn't very smooth. I noticed it in a few different areas. This was from Disney+ and Discovery both which are also native on the set, so I tried watching the same thing from the app built into the set vs the FireTV stick, and had no issues, switched back to FIreTV and it still struggled. While normally this wouldn't be a big deal, this is part of our home theater, and we didn't run an optical cable behind the wall to the receiver, just and HDMI cable, so if we want to take advantage of true Dolby Atmos and the power of good audio equipment, we need to run our streaming off of the FireTV stick routed through the receiver. Before you go start thinking it could be an issue with the receiver, we also tried plugging the FireTV directly into the the TV to eliminate the receiver as the source of the issue. Ultimately because the set does a great job, I only took 1 star off. The workaround for the FireTV issue is to use the streaming directly on the set and use the optical audio out to send audio info to receiver. However, that's another cable to purchase and run, and unfortunately in our situation, there isn't really a good way to fish it through the wall without making holes. If you don't want to use a surround system or sound bar, this set has good quality audio for a TV speakers. It doesn't compare to a sound bar which doesn't compare to a receiver. But compared to other TV speakers it does a great job. I actually don't know if I would recommend a sound bar for this, the dialog was easy enough to understand on this set and it did manage to fill the room and still maintain clarity. For a TV only application this is a 5 star set, but when used as the display for a home theater, it had some challenges and ultimately I deducted 1 star, there are work arounds which is why I only took 1 star off instead of 2. Remember, it's not an OLED so this has limitations. However, when looking at budge considerations this set offer a good middle ground between traditional LED and OLED. Ultimately I do recommend this set, but believe in giving honest and fair assessments and details so people can see real world experience.

Excellent picture from multiple sources
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very sharp picture. I compared it in the store side by side with an OLED and decided to buy this instead. The OLED is indeed bright but it's too bright for my older eyes, and feels harsh. This LED picture feels "softer", colors seem more realistic vs more "video game like", but still highly detailed. Upscales older content, at least up to early 2010's TV shows, extremely well. Phenomenal for PS4 content (horizon zero dawn video game), and displays my laptop screen perfectly over HDMI cable. Have not yet tried something like a really old DVD. Best Buy did an excellent install. We bought the cheapest Sony soundbar and that works seamlessly with the TV. It's plenty bright in our well lit room which has two windows facing the TV.

Great value, but a little slow
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The picture is great, especially for the price. The only thing lacking is speed - it struggles a tiny bit running Google TV, and remote isn't really Bluetooth, so it needs line of sight to TV and has a bit of latency. Other than that the size and quality of screen is perfect for a home theater.

Good TV but defective, X95K probably worth it
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Prior to purchasing this TV, the previous time I bought was back in 2018. Needless to say that there was a lot of research needed to be done to catch up with today's advances in televisions. I, unlike many people, am a HUGE fan of the soap opera effect so I did a good amount of digging to understand this concept. With that, came going down the rabbit hole of RTINGS.com. All that to say, I made a pretty well-informed decision. This TV's clarity was excellent on 4k HD content but just ok with some. It seemed like certain streaming services performed better than others. Paramount looked amazing while Netflix was a little lackluster. I did play with display settings with both and Paramount and Prime were superior and not because of the definition of the shows I watched. This being a step below the top model, you can really get clear visuals but it's missing that WOW factor for the pricepoint. The sound is amazing w/o a soundbar. The specs for gaming are top class and with it being a Sony, its features mesh seamlessly with PS5. HDR, VRR everything. With that being said, I had to return this TV. Why? Because it kept blacking out on me! At first, I thought it was my PS5 but the picture blacked in and out during some streaming services as well. I did buy the TV floor model, but I can't imagine this kind of flaw would pass through Best Buy's refurbishing process. I'm not a huge fan of the google home interface either as it just feels pretty intrusive and assumes a lot. I don't have every single one of my streaming services placed on one email so it was frustrating to try and watch youtube but then having to switch accounts to watch Hulu. I feel like if you're not completely doing everything through Gmail, you miss out on a better experience. The apps also bugged out relatively often so I feel like the processor wasn't cutting it. I'm hardwired with cat7 ethernet and 1200mbps internet so I really don't think this was from the internet connectivity. It's a beautiful TV, but in reality; all TVs at this price point essentially are. If it's on significant sale and you're a Bravia fan, go for it. I will assume this issue with the TV was a defect. I still wasn't excessively impressed when changing the display settings though, just more so pleased. If you're looking for an absolute top-tier TV to hold on to for some years, I would suggest looking into the 95 model or any TV in its top class. This one just didn't feel like I would've gotten the most bang for this pretty high priced buck.

Best big-screen ever;l with one minor quirk.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sony X90K (85") color and resolution is on a part or a bit more 'punch' than my 2 Samsung 4k's. Very satisfied and in demo's could not see advantage of spending more on the L model.. typically the outgoing year is about the same tech at lower price. Needs the X90K for full-array and best video processor, which is the 'Cognitive Ai' used in the top lineup. Only criticism is a minor oddity: when using ambient lighting (installed myself) plugged into the TV's USB receptacle, the USB stays 'hot' (live) even when TV set is off (standby). So a separate remote must be used for the lights. This is odd as both my Samsungs and a prior LG would use CEC essentially and the default would be off for USB ports when TV not in-use. Perhaps SONY has a fix for this; or can in a software update, so that the owner can determine USB inputs being hot or not when the TV is in stand-by/off. In all other aspects it's the best TV ever and I avoided OLED due to concern about static image burn-in regardless of claims it's not an issue (I have CNBC running all so that matters).
