Those who say it's not bright enough need only to realize that the set ships with the Light Sensor ON. Turn it OFF in the settings. The thing will then spring to life. I adjusted the Clarity (sharpness) up higher, actually had to lower the brightness a bit for my media room, and it's absolutely beautiful. I have the 85" in a media room. Also own the new Sony 75", the new 50" (bedroom), and last year's model of the 65". Yep, I needed a few TVs for various rooms. Love the Sony and highly recommended, especially at Black Friday prices.

My review is 4.5 stars. Its a pretty nice tv. The size is amazing. After watching this 85 incher all TVs smaller will be hard to see as well. It dwarfed my 65 inch Samsung. Got the blue line of death after 5 years. So I tried Sony again. Im pretty happy with my purchase. We have only had it for about 2 weeks, so don't know about longevity. If you buy this and intend to use it in anyway with the browser apps available, set it up as google tv not standard. Also if the tv seems to always switch back to vivid within minutes of you changing it to something different you need to turn it off in the store demo mode section. All I can say is this huge tv will spoil you beyond measure. Make sure you have a wall large enough to fit it on. Its like having a movie theater in your house. My next tv will be the 100 incher hopefully by the time this one needs replaced the prices come down on the 100 inch. Seriously if you are on the fence, just buy it, it is very nice. People on the screen feel like they are in the room, especially sports. I took off half a point because its not perfect in presenting blacks. I usually leave the picture setting on standard, vivid is just to bright, and in the long run vivid will dim the light in the tv picture requiring replacement, kinda like the picture tube back in simpler times. When you study TVs like I did you see this stuff with blacks and motion etc, if you don't care if its the perfect tv available, you cannot go wrong with this X91J the tv is capable of presenting the best picture its input comes from. So make sure cable boxes and such are updated as well to allow the tv to present the best picture. Im picky, so I figure others out there are picky also, so I wanted to give a serious review from an actual customer to help the picky ones out. Buy it, you will have the best tv experience you have had in a long time.

Love the picture and the smart apps that come with with the TV; however, there is some missing apps, like TNT disappointing when it comes to trying to watch the NBA. Also not very loud, need to add a sound bar to maximize.

Over the years I have had many Samsung TVs. I never have a problem with one. So for our new house, which has a very large family room, I wanted an 85" machine. After I decided on the TV I wanted it sold out. This Sony was available and going with the good reviews, I bought it. Right out of the box it works like a charm. Great clarity. Fantastic color. I could not be happier. So if you are looking for a large TV, I would, and will recommend this one. One final thought, it's heavy so two people are a must to set it up.

Best TV I've ever owned. I used to buy the holiday TV's which were fine. I did a ton of research but ended up on this LED. I was afraid of the OLED maintenance and risk of burn in. This is a great size for my room and at the $2200 price point, well worth it. The screens is clear. So many reviews and places say it's not bright and that's flat out wrong. I have a room with over 20 lights in it and it does just fine. I would definitely buy it again. Sports are great, movies are the best.

The Sony 85" X91J LED 4K UHD Smart tv has a truly beautiful picture and is easy to navigate. The Geek Squad was very polite and knowledgeable about the use of my tv. They had to drill a hole in the wall to install the wall mount and even cleaned any dust they created. They also wore shoe coverings so no dirt would be carried into my house.

This Sony TV has a picture quality that must be seen to appreciate. The color rendition is spectacular. Shadow Detail is quite excellent. There is online some criticism of this model's total brightness by some "testers". Let me tell you, this TV is quite bright. Ours is in an open concept Family Room / Kitchen / Dining Room. There are 7 windows and a Triple Slider all bringing light into the room and this Sony TV is as watchable as anything out there in this very bright environment.

I loved this TV, it looks super cute with very defined colors. It's a home theater. Sony is the best.

We picked this up for $1999. I get that it's not OLED or the highest level of LED but I still think it's an outstanding picture for the price. This is great with movies and something that has completely changed our viewing experience in our basement. We love Sony TVs for the darkest blacks and most true colors as well. Just finished Ozark on this and it looked beautiful throughout all scenes. Highly recommend.

Had the Samsung q80a before this sony, my samsung had alot of bleeding in dark scenes where it was so distracting i had to exchange it , i am happy to say this one dont have near as much bleeding as the samsung and i got this for on sale on black friday so it was a win for me, its true it doesnt get as bright as other tv but my set up is in a dark room so i cant see any difference between the two

TV it’s a great I loved it has a good sound and very good picture

I have been wanting to own a TV like this for over 10 years, and I finally found it. The good, well it is 4K, it works well in my dark media room. The blacks are truly black, the clarity is incredible. When I was looking at side by side comparisons with the higher end 4K TV's, I did notice a difference in clarity. But really when I got it home and started watching it, I really can't tell. To me it is not worth the additional money for the higher end 4K Sony's I could have purchased. I don't need the latest and greatest. This picture is incredible as it is. Others have mentioned darker in the corners. I havn't noticed that. My media room is pitch black dark, so I will see any deficiencies, and I don't see any. The processor does a great job, as there is no lag or problems with video processing with this large screen. In general, for the size of the screen, there are really no video issues at all. Sound, I have not installed a sound system yet, so I am using the TV's system. While it isn't surround sound, or even a sound bar, it does have pretty decent quality for TV sound. You don't need to get a separate sound system, but it also does not have theater quality sound either. This TV is that one item that I have been wanting since I first saw one around 10 years ago. Its is everything I wanted and more.
