Good picture, absolutely horrible local dimming

I like it, I do. But it does have some serious problems if you are picky with TVs and some blatant problems in general. The local dimming is possibly the worst I’ve seen on any tv in quite some time. The screen will light up when white logos are on the screen and it has a dark background. It’s not noticeable so far when movie watching but in apps and games it’s extremely noticeable. The people who set up my tv noticed it right away during set up as well. I didn’t expect it considering the tv was fairly expensive. It’s really really bad with local dimming. It’s not what expected when purchasing a full array local dimming tv. Another noticeable issue is the motion handling. During movies you may see some stutter during scenes with movement. I’m not sure what causes it cause some scenes look flawless and others have what looks like lag during movement. It’s not just fast moving scenes. Even a few slow panning scenes I’ve watched had it occur. I’ve tried messing with the motion settings but I still see it occurring. If there is some settings that fix this I will edit the review. Going to reach out to Sony about it. Some of the things picky people like myself my find off putting is you can’t seem to use VRR and Dolby vision at the same time while gaming, which I found pretty strange but it’s not a huge deal due to me using this for movies mostly. I may return the tv, I probably would have already if I didn’t have lights and such installed on the tv during the set up. If I take them off I’ll have to buy new light strips and that will be a process. I’ll edit the review if I find fixed to some of these issues. The local dimming issues even friends who aren’t into TVs have noticed when I’ve had them check the tv out. That’s the biggest issue I’ve seen so far with the TV

I was hesitant to go from a 100" screen down to 85", but the picture quality of this set more than makes up for the size difference. Impressed with colors and motion most. Very happy with purchase.

Size and clarity is magnificent!

Picture is great, the sound is decent and it was intuitive to set-up. The only real issue we have is that the TV simply turns itself on randomly every few days. Tried putting the remote in a drawer, still turns on. Brought the remote to a different level of the house, still turns on. We do have another Sony on a different level of the home and the remotes both work on either TV, but I believe the remote is supposed to work with line-of-sight so?? I just don't get it...

It can be adjusted from Data Game Sharp to a softer film look. The audio is as good as the picture. This TV gives you the ability to adjust the sound through a graphic equalizer not just a base and treble setting...very easy to adjust. Great picture, Great Sound.

The picture is excellent and I can still see dark themed movies in broad daylight with ease. I like that I can control my sound system with the same remote and that the remote is Bluetooth. This makes it easy to use from the kitchen.

We have 3 Samsung TVs in our home already and we decided that, for our gaming/theater room we'd "upgrade" to a Sony as that is what TVs are compared against. End of the day, Samsung still wins out. Picture - really is a great quality and the overall scene that you get from it is top of the line. But the motion throws my wife for a loop. Motion - Clarity is great, but it's so "different" from how Samsung works that majority of my family cannot stand watching for extended periods of time. Sound - Holy cow. I know/knew that Samsung had decent speakers on their sets, but Sony's were just down right disappointing. Tin cans produce slightly better highs and mids and do not sound nearly as tin canny as this set. Fit and finish - Overall, this set looks and feels premium. I was surprised at how big the box was and how dense the set was itself. Overall - it is a great set and offers great viewing experience for those who are not picky and particular.

An Average TV That Should Do More For The Price

I purchased a separate Sony 70 inch 1080p television 5 years ago, and the picture in every way is better. I have calibrated this 85 inch television a few different ways, but it struggles to keep a clean, crisp, clear picture. Very choppy and blurry watching movies or television shows. This television really shows its weaknesses with live sports. If you enjoy a blurry, choppy, unclear picture, this might be for you, but for everyone that understands refresh rates, full array local dimming and HDR, this isn't your TV. I think the Samsung Q series would be a better option. I've been with Sony for all my electronics for 20 plus years, but I might not be after this not so good investment. If I could do half stars for this review, I would do 2 1/2 stars.
