arrived today. took it to a test run. seems like it is impossible to take a bad shot with it. But there are lots of things to figure out. along the way,
The first shock was lightroom couldn't recognize its ARW file. checking the internet for a solution now. But overall it is a great camera and I am happy to purchased it.

If you shoot sports, maybe try and find a camera that can shoot faster. If not, this camera is great for just about everything else

OPEN BOX BUYERS BEWARE!!!

DO NOT buy the open box version of this (or any other) camera. I made the mistake of ordering an open box version of this camera from BestBuy online. It was delivered to my home yesterday, and everything looked great...until I pulled the camera out of the box.
My first clue that something was wrong was the cool flippy-tilty screen innovation that Sony invented for the a7rv. The screen on this camera tilted, but it didn't flip or rotate. At first I thought I was doing something wrong, but quickly came to the horrific realization that my "open box a7rv" was NOT an a7rv.
I immediately took this into my local store and asked for a manager, as this is a serious (criminal) issue. The 'experience supervisor' came to help me along with their photo guy (both were fantastic), and we determined that this camera was actually an old a7iii that someone in Ohio (where the camera came from) had doctored to LOOK like an a7rv to the untrained eye. It appears they bought the a7rv, took the stickers and bottom plate off, put them on their old a7iii, and then returned it.
Here's where it gets really annoying. I thought at the time my local store was going to help with with this (very serious) issue...until they called the store manager who wasn't working that day. The manager said their policy required me to call 888-BEST-BUY to process a return. So, I called the number, and did my best to explain to the overseas call center employee the severity of this situation. I'm still unsure if he even understood what I was saying, and just sent me a UPS label to return the camera.
So, I dropped the camera off at the UPS store for return, but now I'm asking myself...."is this thing going to go BACK into the "open box" category for sale on the website when they receive it??? I was never able to get anyone to really commit to helping me with this issue, other than just processing my return.
I'm the type that wants someone in authority to address this situation with me directly, and provide me with some assurances that this won't happen again. I didn't get that from this experience at all. I got a bunch of 'passing the buck', so I'm now worried one of YOU will end up with this same situation.
So, BUYER BEWARE! DO NOT buy an open box item from Best Buy.
Photos attached show several of the discrepancies in this camera: the a7rv sticker is in the wrong spot on the camera, the bottom plate was clearly swapped, the record button is in the wrong place, the mode dial doesn't have the lock button, the flippy screen issue (that you can't see in the photo), the joystick has a different texture. I didn't take a picture of the menu screen, but it identifies the camera as ILCE-7m3. Also, the card slots were only for SD cards, not CFExpress type A cards.
Although the two employees I spoke with were both wonderful and understanding, I am FURIOUS with the way this was handled, INCONVENIENCED by having to make multiple trips into town to talk with them and then to drop it off at the UPS store, and to add insult to injury, UPS made me buy a roll of tape to seal the box before shipping (because I broke down the shipping box after opening it).
I view this as a sweeping failure on the part of Best Buy on both sides of this transaction. DO NOT BUY!
