It is super light and takes really crisp photos right out of the box. I have used it on my helmet mounted setup for skydiving still shots. Would recommend for sure!!

Cant say enough about this camera. I am a rookie at best when it comes to photography and I have taken some amazing pictures that I didnt even mean to do, the camera just did it for me. Play around with the different modes and you will be shooting like a pro in no time.

This camera is a great starter Camera. The thing i love most about it is it’s the only camera along this line that has a flip screen so that you can do a video of yourself and see what your doing as you record yourself

Wonderful step up from point and shoot. Got it with a kit lens: 16-50mm. The lens is versatile enough, however the sharpness is reduced towards the edge of pictures! (if you really blow the picture up and look closely). With better lens will definitely improve overal sharpness. Panoramic scene shooting mood is tricky to execute.

My husband bought me this camera for my birthday...I started taking photography as a hobby, but I was only shooting in Superior or intelligent mode...I met a few people in my travels who were giving me pointers on manual photography a few youtube video later and some photography web sites I taught myself how to take pictures using all the features this camera has... what an awesome purchase!!!...Its a great size for travel, take the the same if not better quality images as any slr camera..depending on the type of photos you may want to purchase a tripod and some filters...I did download a time laspe program onto the camera just to see how that worked https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-AzfraoGxU..Great Camera whether shooting in automatic or manual....if you are into photo editing... you have the option to shoot in both raw and jpeg...

Camera was a gift for my wife. It’s a Great alternative for photos instead of her iPhone. She loved posting pictures right away with the wireless transfer with the Sony app. Quality looks great over the camera phone.

A5100 is very easy to work with, you can pretty much take it out of the box and start shooting excellent photos. I was looking for something a little better then the normal point-and-shoot. I looked at the A5000 but it just another point-and-shoot with lens options. Nope. The A6000 had everything i wanted but from reading reviews and looking as youtube videos the A5100 does the same thing. Save $100 get the A5100 you'll like it.

Great camera with one flaw--but wait for a sale!

This camera so far is easy to use and takes very good pictures. I have mainly been using it on the auto settings so far and have been happy with my photos. The only flaw, which is why I gave it four stars, is that there is not a viewfinder other than the LCD screen, which is hard to see in the bright light. You can crank up the brightness on the screen, which helps some, but I expect that drains the battery. I would not buy it for the $599 price, if I were you, though. Just over two weeks after I bought it for that price, Best Buy started selling it for $499 along with a free camera bag, free memory card, and free strap. I called for a price adjustment (not the free items, just the cost difference), but they said I was a couple of days outside the window and refused it. They do NOT extend the window for Best Buy card holders either like many other stores do for their card holders. So I would wait for the $499 sale to buy it since they have VERY LITTLE flexibility with their price match policy.

I purchased this camera for YouTube recordings. I am a little disappointed that I didn't find out in my reviews that it 'overheats' when recording for an extended period of time 15-25 minutes and shuts off, which can be so frustrating however I guess after further research comes with the territory of most, but the quality and resolution of this video and the pitures are hecka-amazing like love love love. So for the price point in which I bought this camera I wouldn't buy anything else. It's great at taking action shots as well. The clarity of the photos is phenomenal so worth the price. I've also used it to post pics to my blog. Love it, would recommend it and would purchase it all over again if I had the options!

I decided to upgrade from my SONY NEX5 to the A5100, and I'm glad I did. The focus is instantaneous, much faster than the NEX5, where it had to hunt around for a bit. The quality of the pictures are much better as well. I'm just an average user, and it makes me feel like a pro (when put on fully automatic).
The only problem I had is the camera gets very hot when in video mode (not sure if it's caused by the battery). After 15 minutes the camera would just shut down, and I had to wait for it to cool down before I can power it back on. Also, if it doesn't shut down after getting very hot, the camera would go into bust mode, where it'll take 3 pictures at a time. This got very annoyed after one week of use. I had to return it, and exchange for another one. Since Best Buy sold out all the White A5100, and I couldn't back order it, I had to buy it from Amazon.com. Since it's back ordered on Amazon, I have to wait to see if the over heating problem still exist when I received the new one.
If over heating is an defect, I hope SONY will have a fix soon.

with ever changing, improving mobile device's camera technology, I was hesitant to buy digital cameras. for my trip to travel, I didn't want to take DSLR but something compact but still takes good quality photos. first thing i noticed was the craftmanship of the camera. some of the seams were not perfectly fit and felt little cheap. ease of use, the picture quality was great, but as with other brands, if you don't like "sony" camera feel and look, this may not be for you. my biggest disappointment is the price. with my iphone 11, this camera has been sleeping in my closet since then. i may take this with me for the next trip, but I get surprised every time i look at the receipt, seeing how much I have paid for this, and how under used this camera is for my daily life. after all, smartphone is taking over even the digital camera market. on positive notes, the removable battery and expandable memory card is something my iphone cannot do yet. it does use up power quite quickly but the spare battery is cheap so get more if you are planning on a trip. all in all, this is a good camera, but i have a feeling this will be my last digital camera.

Stunning image quality and fits in my pocket

I bought this camera for its compact size, large sensor size and reasonable price.
The camera with the kit lens fits nicely into an empty pocket. Its as thick as a tennis ball with the lens on to give you an idea of its size. It's small and light enough that I can throw it in my pocket and it doesnt slow me down or cause any discomfort when I bring it hiking. It's not as comfortable to carry as my previous nikon coolpix, but it has twice the megapixels, an amazing auto focus and fully manual controls.
The large sensor size allows me to get great low light(almost pitch black) shots and since I keep many nocturnal reptiles that I would like to show off, this was really important to me. My nikon cool pix even on a tripod with suplemental lighting, couldn't get a half decent shot worthy of uploading to facebook.
As much as people say horrible things about the kit lens, I get great, sharp photos everytime. This is the second smallest lens (when powered off) that sony is currently offering and the first smallet power zoom lens. The other great thing about having a 24 megapixels sensor is that you can crop down your photos to one tenth of the original frame and the result is you still have a large clear and we'll defined image. This makes up for the kit len's 50mm maximum focal length.
At $599 with the kit lens, on the bestbuy credit card's 12 month no intrest promotion, it didn't require a large investment on my part. My only regret is that I didn't get the bundle with the additional 55-210mm lens as I do a lot of outdoor wildlife shooting. Going from a compact camera with tons of zoom to the 16-50mm kit lens, I find my self being out of range of a lot of shots.
I recently went to a wedding where everyone else had thier big bulky dslr cameras and there purse like camera bags to go with them and everyone of them approached me at some point to discuss the my little sony a5100 . Most of then have never heard of mirror less cameras at that point, but after comparing features and showing them some sample photos with the very convenient NFC file transfer to my phone, they were very envious, then when they found out how little it cost me and they were completely blown away.
I chose the sony 5100 over the sony 6000, for the size factor, I dont use external flashes (hotshoe) and the view finder doesn't work for me as I wear glasses and for my eyes to focus on the view finder I had to hold the view finder 18" away from my face. I also didn't miss the extra dedicated control wheels of the 6000 since I have the main parameters (shutter speed, iso, apature, and focus mode) set as shortcuts by depressing one of the four sides of the 5100's control wheel, so anything I need to change is only one quick button away.

I have wanted a DSLR camera for some time and I can't count the number of times I've walked into a Best Buy to purchase one. And every time, I decide I just don't like the size and feel of holding one. I decided, once again, to give it a go, and I just couldn't do it. But I came across a display for this Sony camera that promised the quality of a DSLR. It's not much bigger than a point-and-shoot, and I bought it. I am not a photographer and I've, so far, just used auto settings, but I am very happy with the picture quality. This is a great camera for the average person who wants good quality photos without having to go through much of a learning curve.

This camera is excellent if you want great image quality in small size.
Don't let the size fool you or the fact that it isn't a DSLR.
I purchased this camera because I need DSLR quality in a smaller camera. I already haul a Panasonic AG-HPX300 around wlth me all day, but I wanted a camera that could shoot stills in great quality (tired of using my iPhone) and also shoot great video as a secondary source)
I hated the DSLRs auto focus for shooting video. But this little camera caught my eye and I stand behind it. The auto focus on video mode is great.
Pros: Great image quality. Great video quality. Great assortment of camera options. Light weight.
Cons: No external mic input. No hot shoe for flash. Menu system is a bit complicated. Battery life.
Other thoughts: Getting used to navigating the menu system will be the hard hurdle. Once you get used to it, this camera works like a dream!
