Works with my "old" lenses from my Minolta

My husband searched for a camera that I could use with my "old" Minolta lenses from my 35mm camera and it hasn't disappointed yet. Since I had dealt with Sony customer service many years ago and received less than satisfactory service I vowed never to purchase a Sony product. So far, so good. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I will get years of good use out of this camera without any issues. I've noticed some rave reviews and my husband must have as well for him to spend that much money on me.

Nice step up from my Sony a35. Like the fact it can be controlled from the computer using "Remote Camera". Long battery life.

I had been using a Sony Cybershot for many years, and I wanted to get another, higher quality camera. That is just what I got. This camera is easy to use, the images are sharp, and it's not a bad price.

I bought this camera to replace my 10 year old 10mp Sony. I have been disappointed in this purchase. It is not user friendly and not as easy to change settings during picture taking settings. I would nit buy this particular body again. Hugely unhappy with this and wished I had upgraded to a Nikon or canon. I loved my previous Sony DSLR. Would nit recommend

Not a camera pro by any means, but this is a MINOLTA camera. That's enough said. I'm a regular Joe that's makes records and had record deals so quality is job 1. This camera would get signed by a major label if it were music..lol. I have kids and now I'm gonna do all my own family shots. Minolta invented auto focus and Sony bought minolta and my old minolta lens makes better pics than the lens that came with the camera! Whew! Stop thinking canon nikon..All are good in good hands..just like a great Microphone won't make you a good singer...but auto tune and good autofocus will help clean up your mess..don't listen to me or others about which brand is the best. Pick it up, test it out and the right one will choose you. Me and Minolta make a good duo..I mean Sony.

I love my Sony A58 camera. Love the fast focusing. I have owned other cameras where I missed great moments because of slower focusing speeds. Battery life is good. Image quality great. Using Auto mode gives great images, and once I learned to shoot in manual mode I got good results too. Since the stabilizer is in the camera body, lenses are not as expensive as other brands that have stabilizers in each lens. High speed burst gives sharp images, specially in sports shoots.

    smile shutter is Awesome!

I purchased the a58 to replace my a33(basically the first generation of this camera with Sony) I LOVED my a33, used it often. I wouldn't have even thought about buying a new camera except after 5 years the camera just died in the middle of a picture. Turns out it would cost within $150 to buy a new camera to fix. I was hesitant to buy another Sony but loved my old camera so much and the repair guys said they don't see many Sony come through and they are generally very reliable/good. when we bought the a33 we looked at every brand, option, read reviews etc. But the Sony rep was in the store when we bought it. He showed me the smile shutter feature that only sony has and that sold me. We have gotten the best pictures with the smile shutter, you basically turn the feature on and the camera recognizes a smile then takes the picture. You can set the sensitivity so a slight twitch could make it snap a picture or a full out toothy grin. We use this feature to take family photos without having to use a timer. The nice thing about it is it takes so many pictures so fast that everyone starts laughing at it, which in turn gives the best natural smiles. I didn't think I would notice a difference with the a58, but I like it even better than the a33! It is noticeably faster, the pictures are great quality, the auto+ feature is nice because it recognizes the type of picture your taking and adjusts the settings. For example, if I'm taking a picture of my kid, it may take 3 pictures then layer them to reduce blur but also recognizes it as a portrait then crops it into the rule of thirds rule and tries to put the subject off center (a basic photography principle). It also adjusts the apature to blur the background slightly. It's not fool proof but you can shoot in manual mode to do this yourself if you are picky. You can also set the camera to recognize faces so when you are taking a picture of a crowd it will focus on the programmed faces, for example if are at a school program it will focus on your kids face instead of another kid in the bunch. I could go on all night about why Sony has this figured out above canon and nikon, but I will just suggest you look at them in the store and you will see how Sony will out do the rest, especially in this price point, but honestly I think they out do the cameras twice the price.

Good camera, but not fast enough

I currently own a Nikon D5100. Compared to it this came is on slower side, when take photos of children. It takes time to focus, by that time you will miss the moment you want to capture. Picture quality is good. But camera autofocus is not fast enough to take pics of KIDS. I used both cameras taking shots of my kid. Nikon is fast and you wont miss a moment. With this camera you will miss what you want to shoot. But overall I give 4 stars because of price and image quality.

    A Wonderful Camera

I recently replaced a Sony A300 with the A58. After many, many years of use, the A300 is performing as good as the day I bought it. I wanted to take advantage of newer technology so I purchased the A58. Also, my Sony 50mm F1.8 and Tamron 18-200mm lens are fully compatible. I took the A58 to the IndyCar 500 at Pocono Raceway this past weekend and the pictures are great. Clear, crisp, sharp, true colors of the race car paint jobs. Concerning features, the camera can do anything you want to do. From an expensive "point and shoot" to using the various modes, manual control, aperture and shutter speed control, this meets the user needs. No buyer remorse. Highly recommended.
