Loving my new A7! I did a lot of research on this model and took the chance on this older version of the A7 and I'm so glad I did. Used it on a recent trip to Yellowstone with amazing results.

I come from the Nikon D700 family and I have to say it is worth the money for me to change to the Sony a7 II. The Sony is so much lighter and a little more compact and does so much more than my D700 ever did. I like that the camera has a translucent mirror so you do not have to hear the shutter going up and down which works better for weddings or when you do not want to have any noise. I like the video function also since I do not have to carry a video camera around when I want to take a small video of something. The main thing I like about the Sony is that you can use it in very dark places without a flash or lights, I bought my D700 for that reason and the a7 does a better job at that.

A Great Camera for Photographers and Videographers

The A7 Mark II may seem like a minor upgrade from the original and a step in the wrong direction when comparing to the A7s but, this camera is an amazing device with some amazing qualities. First, let me tell you the cons: Battery life leaves you a bit disappointed especially when you use the features you bought the camera for, The native lens choices are abysmal and It doesn't have that mind blowing low light ability. The Pros far outweigh the few cons, I assure you. The camera is full frame. In fact, this is one of the cheapest full frame cameras on the market. It has a healthy 24MP sensor that easily compares to the 5D Mark III in the tests I've run. The best part of any mirrorless camera is the ability to adapt lenses and that is where this particular camera will blow your mind. The biggest draw here is the In-Body-Image-Stabilization, IBIS, that allows you to use any full frame lenses, with proper adapter including canon auto focus glass, with stabilization. This isn't a substitute for Optical Stabilization but believe me, it works very well. To see this on a full frame camera is a blessing. This camera also includes a few of the video upgrades from the A7s including the video codec which works very well and stands its ground against the 5D. I highly recommend this camera to anyone interested in breaking free of a single lens system and wanting the incredible versatility of a Mirrorless system along with the image stabilization features. While it's no slouch, you might want to look at the A7s or GH4 if video is your focus. For Photos, this is the winner.

There are many independent reviews out there from blogs and dedicated photo forums, but average buyer reviews on the A7 II on major retailers sites are relatively rare. I think it may be due to the recent overflow of new tech introduction and so many cameras going on sale, especially on the sony side with four different lines of A7, ever so popular A6000 etc and Sony's aggressive pricing. Anyhow, on to the camera. Ergonomics: Though it comes down to what the user prefers or is used to, I personally think the A7 ii is by far the best thought out camera sony has ever introduced as far as ergonomics and camera controls go. It feels great in the hand, just adds about the right weight to balance between rather big and heavy lenses for the body's size. Build: The camera to me, reminds me a lot of the NEX 6 build, which is a very good thing. It may be closer to NEX 7, but Ive never held one personally. Of course, it has that added weather sealing so no doubt better. However, there are definitely some quirks such as port and card placements etc. I'm sure Sony had reasons but every port / battery etc cover on this thing opens up differently. Most of them are pretty easy to figure out but that USB door is always so difficult for me to pull out but it is a minor annoyance. The bigger issue is the memory card slot that feels extremely flimsy and flaps open really easily just by the friction against your hand, palm whatever and today it opened as I was pulling it out of the bag. I am afraid that flimsy thing is going to break and fall out. IQ: It uses an exact same sensor that is in the A7. There are added focus points and supposedly a faster AF, but there is just not going to be a worlds of difference from the original. Real strength of course if the 5axis IS but if you do not plan on using the camera with lenses that lack OSS, this is of no benefit to you at all. It should help with videos, but I'm not a video guy and a lot of reviews seem to indicate the performance improvement is rather minimal. There were also the notorious hallation effect on the A7 sensor, which is still somewhat present with the A7 II. Shooting in low light conditions with a lot of artificial lights? You should go with a different camera. But for everything else (minus BIF / fast sports), the A7 ii simply delivers. There are also a known issue of the camera just going poof, with some camera error that cannot be fixed unless sent in to sony for service, which upon research, seem to have to do with the 5axis IS or EFCS. A lot of users report this issue sometimes right out of the new box, sometimes a few weeks in, etc. Again, you cannot fix this yourself. It must be sent back to Sony. Looks like they repair it under warranty. I don't think any of the A7ii out are out of their warranty periods, so if that ever happens to anyone outside warranty, Im not sure what they'll do, but something to keep in mind, as it is not uncommon issue. The biggest drawback: Sony depreciation. It simply sucks. If you are cost sensitive person, Do NOT buy any sony camera upon release or at MSRP. You will regret.

Yes it is FHD but the bitrate covers up everything else. White balance is classic, sensor sensitivity is very robust, photos are extremely sharp. One thing is very old school, the view finder and the LCD display. But, the price of this camera bundle makes it hard to over look this option. I shall update my review as I learn more about this lightweight, extremely robust camera. My main purpose is to use this camera for short cinematic videos.

Deliberated between this and upgrading to a full frame Nikon. After much research I decided on this one. 2 big reasons. One it's a full frame for 1000. 2 it is mirrorless. Plus its Sony, and they are leading the pack in mirrorless from what I have read. I love the features and i thought the controls were going to be tough to get used to from the nikon I had experience with, but it was so simple. When you focus it enlarges the area of focus for you. It also allows you to see what your adjustments will look like (changes in light for instance when closing the apeture). I am extremely pleased with the photos and features. only one down side that I could see, and that is the battery life. That is an easy fix thought with the purchase of a backup

I’m completely new to photography but from what I researched I wanted a full frame dslr and this one packed a lot of great specs for the price. I’m most impressed with the colors this camera captures. All of my photos come out so vibrant! It’s light weight and pretty user friendly. Some of the other reviews mentioned short battery life which is accurate so I just ordered 3 extra batteries and carry them around in the case with me. I look forward to seeing what more I can accomplish with different lenses. So far I’ve mostly been playing with a 50mm prime lens that was relatively inexpensive. It shoots amazing portraits but you have to move around a lot to achieve the focus and bokeh that you want. Hope someone finds his review helpful.

    Ok - but dated

I've only had this camera for a couple of weeks - so I'm still finding my way around it. I've been a lifetime Canon user with a number of lenses and several Canon DSLR cameras including the 6D II. I purchased this with a kit lens thinking I just wanted to see what Sony Mirrorless cameras had to offer. I've heard so many good things about Sony Alpha Cameras. I knew it was an older model so expected a few less bells and whistles - but am surprised how dated this camera seems. With just a couple of weeks of using here's what I think (I may like it better the longer I have it): PROs: - compact body! Love the smaller camera. (and smaller lenses). I'm taking it traveling soon and with airline restrictions this will be a much better size. - an astonishing array of features in the menu (if you can find them). - Full Frame sensor. - The focusing choices on this camera seem much easier to navigate - especially if you set up a custom function to access quickly. - The custom function buttons - set up your most used settings. CONS: - I really miss touch screen - I'm surprised how often I tap the LCD screen. - Kit lens very soft on edges, especially at either extreme - Sensor dust! I'm dismayed to find (or not find) that it doesn't self clean the sensor. My solution is to buy a 28-240 zoom and leave it on the camera. Which is a bit of a disappointment because I purchased an adapter to use my Canon lenses on this camera. But I hate cleaning sensor dust in post production! All in all - I think its an OK entry level camera but am sad I didn't buy one of the higher/newer models. If you are interested in this camera my recommendation would be to save up and buy up.

Wow is what you will say when you start using this camera but if your a pro than all the options are there for you. This is the low light king of cams. Higher than 20 megapixels, it beats its big brother at hi red images but falls short of shooting at 4K as does the A7Sii. But that's ok, this is still hi pixel shooting full frame camera that shoots amazing 1080p 50fps in multiple modes. Sure you can dump in an extra 35% cash if don't mind losing that super mega pixel photos for tha better 4K Video. I'd rather spend that on accessories I'm gong to use often and wait until the body on the S model comes down. The parts are interchangeable and we can still hold on to the 7ii for those higher quality photos. Either way you decide, enjoy the lightweight compacted mirrorless camera all day and night.

I've shot with Canon and Nikon. Both awesome. In my opinion this Camera is just superior for many reasons. It is easy to use. Sony Lenses are really really great. Picture quality, color, crispness, and I could go on. Camera is light weight and feels great in my hands. Lense are pricey but I prefer the native lenses to Canon and Nikon. Keep it all in the family and you will get great results. I researched this camera and compared to the Canon 6d and 7D. It even out performed the 5D on many sites. I also compared to Nikon D750. All take great pictures but for me and I am super particular I am so happy I bought the Sony. I just added the 90mm Macro lens for portraits and Macro use. Best money I've every spent on a lens. Incredible pictures. Camera is simply worth it! If you want to have a camera that works well and makes you look great as a photographer buy this camera. You will be proud of the pictures you will take!! Also watch You Tube videos on how to use camera and different Lense. I'm no pro but hey help me a lot to understand the camera and lenses. However, the camera itself is the real hero.

The Sony a7 mark 2 is a very good introduction to the full-frame road. Any amateur or hobbyist will love this camera. The features it offers are more than enough for a beginner. If you're not a paid photographer, spending $3-4k on a camera is absurd and this camera definitely can compete with the big boys, but without the expensive price. You're getting $3-4k worth of features for half the price. This is the best bang-for-your-buck 35mm camera I've ever owned.
