This is the best camera I've ever owned, and I've owned a bunch. Autofocus is fast, low light sensitivity is great, dynamic range is better than any other camera I've owned, and with 42mp you can crop in a crazy amount on your photos. 4k video looks great, and you can shoot in s35 mode to get a little extra zoom without dropping in resolution. This camera is way smaller than a comparable dslr from canon or nikon and offers all of the features and image quality or more from their flagship cameras.

I bought this camera earlier this month after hearing so much about it and boy was I not disappointed! I'm not a pro by any means but even with my experience, I was able to get amazing shots even when the lease itself wasn't the best.
The menu system is clean and easy to understand. The camera has great dynamic range and the Mega Pixels.... O man, the MEGA PIXELS really show themselves! Whether your printing your photos out or looking at them on a high resolution screen, you'll be able to see every little detail as long as the shoot was taken properly.
I don't regret buying this camera for the price it was because its been nothing but a PLUS in my books.

One of the decisions to buy my camera at a Best Buy store was that I had the opportunity to try it before I bought it. Excellent service from the Sony representative at the Bestbuy store in Cambridgeside.
This camera offers excellent results.
PRO
42.4-megapixel Exmor R full-frame CMOS sensor. Good photos in low light.
CONST
Only negative point that I see is the battery life. But I recommend that you always buy several extra batteries.
When I bought it, it was the most expensive camera now that the newest model came out, it has dropped by 200 dollars, which is a great opportunity to have some of the best high-end cameras on the market.

Sony shot for the stars here, bypassing all of the competition in many ways.
There are tons of reviews about this camera online so you can go take a look at them and I won't repeat it all but to sum it up it works amazingly well. I had a Canon 5D Mark III before and there are many ways in which this doesn't compare but where it counts, the A7R II hits the mark very well. Relative to that full-frame DSLR this thing has the following pros:
- amazing electronic viewfinder that works very well
- compact package
- image quality is superb
- so much detail
These are the negatives:
- high ISO is decent but not great (5DIII was better for me)
- AF is good for people, candids, outdoor/landscape photog etc but not great once the lights get low or when your subject is moving quickly
- lens selection could be better but with the amazing 35mm collection and 85mm Batis I am mostly covered for now
- menus are just not as good
I considered going back to the 5D III, considered the higher 6D, considered the 5Ds/R and just couldn't find an overall package that was going to be better than this once the right lens (Zeiss Batis) was released and the A7R II was released. Go read some reviews and see for yourself. If you have the money you won't be disappointed.

Sony mirrorless cameras have consistently been innovating, adding significant improvements in each new generation of camera. While the A7R4 is top dog for latest and greatest hi megapixel camera in Sony’s Alpha lineup, this older model offers outstanding results at half its original price. True, battery life is dismal. Only one card slot. Electronic viewfinder is less than stellar. No eye autofocus. But...the image quality is really good. We are talking better than my A7iii, which in all these other ways is far superior. When I need consistent auto focus for events, low light, long battery life, I reach for the A7iii. If I want highest image quality it’s the A7Rii that I pick up. It’s not perfect, but for a camera that previously did lead the pack now available at a bargain basement price, it’s a gem!

Sony has done it again! Fabulous camera. I love it! Easy to use, I shoot primarily outdoors often in windy conditions and the camera is easy to use and the steady feature allows me to shoot pictures and video without a tripod. Clarity and color of the pictures is superb. Video quality is so exceptional that I can take stills from the video and they don't look like video capture.

The best camera in the market at top pro level. Compact , light weight but packed a big resolution and the top professional level. Easy to operate. 4k video is amazing. RAW FILE image more than 42 Mg pix. Most Pros.. only few Cons, battery life, and single memory slot.

Long time Nikon user. I first bought the Sony A7SII because I wanted something that worked with video better in low light...check! Then I wanted the A7RII because it has 42mp so I now I'll have one for video and one for photos...check! Now, using both the A7SII and the A7RII I can tell you both are better than my other DSLRS for both Videos and Photos in lower light situations.
Also, I found them extremely easy to learn. I've read that others don'l like the menu on these cameras, I don't know why because I love them.
Battery life is not as good as my DSLR's because but I fixed that buy getting the Vertical Grip which holds two batteries, so no biggy. Adding the Vertical Grip makes the camera bigger which I also like.
I really didn't care if the camera was smaller because it's mirrorless. I bought it because it's photo and video quality is just pure awesome!
Love this camera!

Paired with prime glass, namely Zeiss lenses the Sony a7r mark II is simply unstoppable! In-camera stabilization, dynamic range, low light performance (given the pixel count) and yes, 4K performance are bar none. While it will not replace my robust Nikon D series bodies for harsh weather shooting it is a welcome addition to my kit! Well done SONY, now bring back the aluminum command and sub command dials from the original a7

I love this camera. It does so much so well. Wifi, special apps that allow for real time HDR, water smoothing, etc. The 42.5MP backlit sensor is giving me beautiful images. I'm able to shoot up to 3200 ISO for events and it looks great. I may try to push it further. E-Mount lens focus functionality is second to none. You can use A-Mount lenses also with an adapter with great results too, though you lose some of the focus functionality available with e-mount lenses, but I've used both with great results. Battery life is not as good with my Sony A700, but with I added a vertical grip so I could put in two batteries. It is acceptable and I can generally get through an event. PLUS this camera does 4K video with excellence. There is nothing about this camera I don't like. That being said, if you shoot stills and have all A-mount lenses, you may wish to wait for the new Alpha 99 mk II coming out in November 2016. The video functionality is not as good, but you don't need to move to e-mount lenses. If you shoot mostly video, you may prefer the Sony A7S mk II. It has a very special sensor for low light video that the A7R does not have, but it's only 12MP for stills. If you want the best of both, the A7R mk II is simply outstanding. I'm very happy with the purchase. Now -- for those of you who do not think of Best Buy as a destination store for cameras, I understand -- BUT -- They were able to get the camera when no one else was, the staff was great, maybe not as knowledgeable as a "true" camera store, but if you add the Geek Squad protection (at an extra cost) you are set. When I need a camera repair, it's always a minimum of $400. My cameras are in the shop way more than I want them to be (I'm hard on cameras and lenses). The first repair will pay for itself. I'm sold.

I had originally wanted the Sony a7iii, but it was quite a bit more money than I wanted to spend. I found this Sony a7rii at a Best Buy near me that was an open box deal. The price was right so I bought it, and I'm glad that I did. It takes amazing photos with 42mp. The only issue (I researched this model before purchasing) is the battery life. The battery life is terrible HOWEVER, the money that I saved by buying this camera over the a7iii is worth it to me. I'm just getting into photography and this camera fits my needs. I bought two batteries that came with a charger off eBay for cheap and that took care of my battery issue. Another thing I researched before buying was the ease of use of this camera. Everything that I read claimed that Sony's menu system is extensive and confusing. I haven't found that to be the case really. Yes there's a lot of menu pages on the camera but it just means you have lots of options and ways to configure the camera. I was using a Canon 80d before I bought this Sony a7rii and to me the menu system is roughly the same its just that the Sony has more options. All in all I love my new Sony a7rii and I would make the same choice purchasing it again. The only reason for 4 stars is the battery life but don't let that stop you from buying this camera. For the $1,000 I saved I can buy a lot of batteries.

I was under doubt of getting the D810 and the Sony a7Rii. I tried out both, and the sony excelled in every which way - not to mention its compact 35mm size. You are also able to use lenses interchangeably between manufacturers which is absolutely phenomenal. Great piece of technology - sony is now with the big dog.

Having been a Canon shooter for 10 years it was a hard choice but Sony did just enough to make me switch (and Canon hasn't been too impressive lately anyways). That being said, this camera is a FANTASTIC VIDEO camera and a mediocre Photo camera. The S-log footage that was passed on to me in post processing/editing is what made me have to have this camera. It is amazing to be able to edit with. The dynamic range captured with this camera hold up fantastically in post. Add in 120fps and I was in. The bad news is that the auto focusing hunts when it is not in full sunny perfect conditions. The adapter for my Canon lenses is ok, but if you want to shoot seriously with this you better be ready to switch to all Sony Lenses (which are not bad at all). Just don't expect your 3rd party glass to hang with this adapter. I usually manual focus everything anyways since I'm doing mostly video and when I do do photos its usually not with a moving model. I'd say if nailing the photo shot is what you are looking for this is not the camera for you. If you want an AMAZING video camera with internal 4k that is a fraction of the cost and the size of the other "big boy" cameras that offer this, then this camera is definitely for you.

This mirrorless camera has more features than any dslr currently on the market. Not only does it have in camera stabilization, 4K video, 42.4 pixels, and 399 phase-detection AF points, it is lighter and smaller than my Canon camera. Since the lens are also lighter, it is much easier for me to carry without back or shoulder strain. Overall, I am very pleased with the camera.

Love this camera. Picture quality is super. It's currently replacing my iPhone camera since it's small and easy to carry around. I had 5D III but it's too big to carry around. A great option that I like about A7RII is wifi, I can transfer pictures to iPhone instantly anywhere.

Was debating between this and the newer 7r3 model. At the end, factoring-in the huge discount and features set, I've opted for the 7r2 body. Coming from the original A7, i had battery, 35 f/2.8 and 85 f/1.8 lenses.
The silent shooting in Af-S is extremely useful, and so is the face tracking.
I just shot a basketball game with the a7r2 in 18MB, and was very pleased with the results. But if you plan to shoot a lot of sports at full resolution, go for the a7r3 or save up for the A9 (no EVF blackout). If you want to shoot landscapes on a tripod leveraging the a7r3's pixel-shift I wont recommend the a7r2.
If your main objective is video, then look at the A7s2, but the A7r2 is not too far behind.
All in all, the Sony A7r2 is an amazing camera, for stills and video. Lightroom processes RAW very well too.
I'd also like to give a quick shoot-out to the BestBuy staff. Very professional, super patient with my numerous trips to the store in testing-out numerous lenses and focus conditions. Not to mention they were very knowledgeable. Kudos!
