I’ve been researching camera brands for years and ultimately decided that Sony would suit my needs now and in the long run. I love the grip of this as it is not as bulky as some of the competitors. I purchased this camera mainly for its resolution and it being mirrorless. Along with the many positive reviews it has for lowlight and astro photography. The only thing that I can’t seem to understand, even after trying multiple mobile apps to connect it to, is to have a geolocation tracker on while taking photos. I read other Sony bodies it is much easier to use geolocation, but for some reason this body is harder. Not sure if that is true or not. The geolocation capability was one of the things that I was concerned about going with a Sony, but was reassured that there are apps out there that can track the location when you take photos. I am still trying to figure out which is the best app as I haven’t had any luck with any yet and the Sony apps could use some improvement. Other than that, I think ultimately you have to choose a camera body and brand that suits your style and what is most comfortable for you. There will be always hiccups along the road with any that you go with, but overall, I am very happy with this product.

I have been wanting to venture into the mirrorless camera arena. Sony pushed me head first. I kept hearing about the Alpha line of cameras and seeing the great pictures/ video being produced. Well, I bought the A7R2. Wow I love it; So many features. There is no perfect camera (e.g. battery life) but there are work arounds always (extra batteries and power bank). Sony and Zeiss (lenses) are a power house!

Have not purchased a stand alone camera in over 7 years, last was a Nikon D7000, this is much lighter, but getting used to the settings is a bit of a challenge for us newbs. I purchased this because of the high number of focus points and the larger megapixels available than other mirrorless in the same price point Still, seems overpriced considering, unless using for professional income earning photography, your high end Samsung or Apple phones takes comparable quality photos and videos in most circumstances, and is much more accessible round the clock.

So far, for me, my A7Rii is living up to all the hype and glowing reviews I've read. It's such a major step up from the already-excellent A7R, especially in terms of autofocus and in-camera stability. I can get tack-sharp photos at 1/20, which for me is pretty amazing. And the video looks really nice so far. I haven't yet done a major video shoot with it yet, but I'm confident the A7Rii will handle that with the same confidence and verve it has handled everything else.

You can not beat the price compared when it first came out and to the a7riii. If you are not a pro but still want high res pictures this is it. Continuous eye af is amazing. Not as fast as the a7riii but still great. Only downside is the crappy small battery that does after 260 pictures.

The camera is awesome the video is sharp. Photos are also sharp. Focusing with video can be difficult at times need more time to figure it out. I was filming a wedding reception and the camera shut down. Over heating at night. Turned it back on and it was ok. I just need more time with this.

Ive had this camera for over a year now and have shot 1000's on 1000's of photos. It produces some really great pics! BUT the huge caveat is that it is not at all USER FRIENDLY. Not even a little bit. The settings menu and all the buttons all over the camera are not intuitive whatsoever. Ive worked with Canon and Nikon DSLR's and they are 10x more intuitive even if you haven't read the user manual. So to get great pics from this camera you really need to STUDY UP on all its features, functions, etc. Even after a year, I have to sit there and try to read up on how to do simple things on my camera. For instance, I forget how to format my memory card because the menu is so not intuitive that I have to literally scroll through almost 50 menu windows to try and find it. In the end, I have to just google it and read up which sub-menu it is located in! Also, after a year, both batteries that it came with are dead! I will charge them to full, and leave them out of the camera so that they are ready to go the following weekend. Then I go to shoot the camera, I pop in the battery and the thing is down to 9%!!! This started slowly happening over time and I really should have called Sony about this months ago but never got the chance. I finally called them and they tell me they cant help me because I am 1 month outside the 1 year warranty window. But I still give the camera 4 stars because it produces awesome pictures!

This is my first Sony camera and it has been awesome! There's so much to like about the camera so I'll name just a few. The image quality is amazing! The pictures you can get from this camera has met my expectations in all situations I have used it in, especially in low light. There's all kinds of good stuff to help it excel in that department such as in-body stabilization and quality lenses with large apertures. The autofocus works great. I mainly AF-Continuous with Eye AF and AF-Continuous Lock-on which locks onto a subject and it will continuously track that subject. One last PRO I want to mention is the very aggressive marketing/R&D by Sony and Zeiss. Zeiss lenses are amazing and they are one of the world leaders in what they do. CONS: - responsiveness is a bit laggy compared to other big brands - short battery life

I decided to switch from Canon to Sony, this camera was on sale and I made the jump. The menu system is a bit complicated and it takes some getting used too. So far, the images are very clean and crisp. The battery is not the best, but I guess I will have to pick up a few extra. The options the camera offered are really goon. I love the auto focus options and you really can pin point what you want. Image stabilization built in the camera is a perfect option. Looking forward to giving this camera a real workout.

I am a Canon and Sony user. I own Canon 7D, 1dsmarkiii, and the 1Dx. This Sony offers superior dynamic range compared to Canon, its smaller, has internal stabilization so you don't need IS lenses, can focus on subjects eye, and a ton of other features. The main draw back for me is that I can not shoot fast with the Sony. You would need the Sony a9 for that. I sitll love my Canon 1Dx but haven't found myself shoot with the Canons since going with Sony. With the mirrorless Sony you will have a lot more options with lenses if your get a lens conversion kit which are also not costly. If you are looking to buy Sony I would recommend now the a9 unless you want the larger MB files and dynamic range of this camera, the a7rii, just remember the ar7ii can't shoot fast and will buffer on you.

I've been a Canon guy for a long time. Six years ago I almost got an Alpha SLR but with several L glass lenses I decided against it. Then came the first a7 and since I knew in my heart the future would be mirrorless I was thinking of buying one and trying it out. However I succumbed to my inner SLR FF snobbery and stayed 100% Canon. Then comes a7II, a7s, a7r. I really liked the idea of not being strapped down to one lens mount. I mean with M mount adapters, Metabones etc I was seeing the benefits already. Then last year the a7rII comes out and I try one out. I used my Canon 50mm 1.2 L with a metabones adapter and it focused faster than it could on a 5d mkIII and no back focus or hunting. Wow, focusing peaking, quick, easy to know you got focus pegged when the subjects eyes light up. Most of all see what my shot is going to look like including DOF. Sold my Canon bodies and got my first a7rII.

I was skeptical before making this purchase as i wanted to shell out a huge amount on this camera, but it is worth every penny. It is an excellent camera with the 42MP backlit sensor producing a great image quality and 4k video recording. Sony also have fixed a bunch of issues from the previous version of this camera and have made it more user friendly.

The A7rii is a very nice camera. I have shot with a Canon 5d Mark II and was not sure if moving to mirrorless was the right choice. This camera in combination with the sigma adaptor allows me to use my Canon lenses. So far the combination has worked well. I primarily use this setup on long hikes and backpacking trips. The lightened load and better picture quality is fantastic.

You've read all the glowing reviews. That's what we do, right. Anything negative is disregarded as being written by some ignorant nobody and then we press on to the next 5 star review. When you consider this camera, you are probably looking for something that will satisfy your pixel peeping appetite. If that's the case, it would serve you well to pay close attention to the glass you buy for this camera. Visit DXOmark and check the sharpness rating before you buy any lens. That is, if you care about sharpness. So far I've got the 90mm Macro, the 55mm f1.8 and the 28mm f2. All are at the top of the sharpness heap and show it in the images. Prior to these, I tried the 24-70 f4 and was disappointed with the sharpness in photos. For video it was fine, but you don't need ultra sharp lenses for video since you are only resolving about 8.8 megapixels. I'm waiting to see what kind of sharpness values the new G Master lenses get. In the meantime, I'll be saving up. Is it wrong to want the highest resolution? Maybe, but why use this camera if you are going to settle for less.

I can't believe the performance on this fairly(?) compact mirrorless camera! I was using a Nikon D5000 and upgraded (yes a huge upgrade) to the A7R ii after a lot of research. The full frame, the electronic view finder, the 4k/1080p recording, and numerous other features. So glad I made this purchase!

I'm a long-time DSLR photographer who was interested in a mirrorless system for compactness and easier mobility, but had a hard time letting go of my traditional SLR, but whoah, this Sony packs so much functionality and picture quality which made it a no-brainer. The lenses available for the Sony are amazing as well. No looking back, I'm a Sony man.
