Customers are saying

Customers appreciate the Alpha 7R IV's excellent image and video quality, high resolution, and ease of use. Many also praise the improved autofocus and grip compared to previous models. While some find the camera pricey and the menu system challenging, the overwhelmingly positive feedback centers on its superior image capabilities. The large file sizes associated with high-resolution images are also a noted drawback for some users.

    Great Mirrorless

Bought this camera to get into mirrorless cameras and switched from a Nikon SLR. This camera takes a bit getting used to from my Nikon habits, but super capable and easy to use once familiar with the controls. This is heavier than I originally expected it to be, but not in a bad way. A bit pricey, but no so much more when compared with comparable models from competitors.

I'm coming from a Nikon d850, D3 and D500. I tried a Sony A7III and it was ok but this camera what made me switch from the Nikon system. The details are incredible. I take lots of wildlife photos as well as portraits. Pro: 1. High Megapixel allows a ton of work in the post especially cropping. This is useful for wildlife photos when you are limited by the lens. High pixels is useful for me because I do a lot of composited images. 2. Autofocus is better than a7III. It is substantially better than Z6. The accuracy is very reliable for most situations. The only time it failed was on the fastest of my four dogs. It works for most wildlife situations. For sports, I would still recommend the A9. 3. The body is a huge step up from previous generations. 4. EVF is incredible at 5.76m resolution. It also allows me to see the exposure live. 5. Compact, light, powerful and incredibly sharp. 6. Low Cost for this quality and performance is insane. This competes with the medium format hybrids from Fujifilm and Hasselblad. Cons: 1. low light focus still isn't perfect. By this, I mean I had a very fast-moving dog running around in a cloudy evening. Invest in a good Speedlite or strobe. The ISO does pretty well for most situations. 2. You better have a fast computer. These are very large files if you shoot raw. I purchased a diskless raid array 3. I'm still not 100% on Sony colors. It appears underexposed and less on the magenta and yellow. I will say this is not oversaturated like the A7III. 4. The body still feels cheap next to the NIKON Z7. It almost feels hollow but light. I realize it is still an improvement on a7iii. LCD- Resolution of 1.4M doesn't cut it in 2020. It also lacks pinch zoom and touchable lcd. This is a very critical review and in spite of all of it, it is still the best all-around professional mirrorless camera on the market.

A very high-quality piece of equipment. 61 megapixel Imager allows digital enlargements many times over. At $500 off the list price, it was definitely a “Best Buy”. Ordered online and shipping was very quick.

Was a little hesitant to purchase with the a7r V coming out soon, but a sale prompted me to make the purchase before taking a trip out to Seattle. 61 MP is a lot and more than the average person is going to need in relation to prints/posting their work. The ability to crop and utilize APS-C mode was the driving factor for me to purchase. I do a lot of landscape photography so this allows me to keep my bag a bit lighter on longer hikes while still maintaining a good range in focal distances with the lenses I do bring along. Check out @peachhikes on instagram to see some shots! Would love to upload them here but the site is not compressing them small enough to upload :(

The a7R IV is a very well thought out upgrade to the already loved a7R III. This camera features upgraded buttons, grip and finally, a locking exposure compensation dial. Sony continues to listen and innovate based directly on the feedback of their users. Their ability to listen and implement so directly and quickly is something the camera industry is simply not used to. The 61MP sensor is something simply incredible. Way more resolution than most people need, but not a downside in any way. Just be prepared to stock up on some high-capacity memory cards. My love for this camera comes mainly from the increased comfort features I mentioned above, like buttons and the grip. If you are a serious photographer, take a serious look at this camera. There is really nothing to complain about.

Absolutely in love with this camera for photography. Yes the files are big but it’s 60 megapixels that’s to be expected. I decided to go this route because I needed a camera that produced images that could also be blown up big with no issues for certain clients. The AF is way better than it was on my Sony a7iii. I just wish I could enjoy the same low light video capabilities that I had with my a7iii. With the Sony a7iv coming out you may want to wait to make your best decision . As it will be awesome for photo and video .

Love this rig! Aspiring professional photographer and wanted the extra pixels to crop super close without loss of resolution. This fits the bill perfectly. Great build quality and easy to use if you understand manual photography and shooting with RAW. Went with this over canon due to pro level lens prices. It was a very hard call though.

Sony has re-released the A7RIV with a new model the A7RIVa, there are slight hardware changes, but everything else remains the same. IMO, this is peak laziness from Sony. They had the perfect opportunity to roll out their new menu system which is found in older cameras (A9II, A1, A7C), but they did not do it. It's not like they didn't touch the firmware anyways...they did. They had to create new firmware anyways due to the slight hardware changes, but they didn't want to give us the better newer menu system. Or the newer animal eye AF. Regardless, the camera's PQ, AF, and dynamic range is exceptional, as others have noted. The build quality is solid, and the EVF is outstanding. The only issue is the really crappy menu system, which coming from an A7III, A7RIII, A6000, A6300, and A6500, I'm used to it.

Best. Camera. Ever. It's hard to take a bad photo with this camera.... sharp clear clean and crisply focused photos even in low light. I got a 24-105 G and also a 35mm G-master lens for it, perfect for what I need it for. Still trying to decide which telephoto lens to get for it; 100-400 or 200-600.... probably going to settle for the 200-600.
