I bought this camera for my son, who is a Film major. He absolutely loves it & gets pictures that are insanely crisp/clear. He shot a short film using it & it looks professional.

I needed a new camera that didn't need so much artificial light. This came as big surprise for me and my film buddies. The Best freaking camera I ever very bought, and I'm cheap. I'm still trying to figure out the limits of the camera, that is why I have people around me who can read and are smart. I grew up with film and technology has left behind. Sony you have made me smarter and my hips look much smaller.

Best Pro Level Camera!

Sony A7s ii is the best camera out there for mid level filmmakers, wedding shooters. 12.2 mp on a 35mm full-frame guarantees flawless low light video. Also shoots sLog-3. The change of design of the camera's shutter button means a better grip on the newer version. Also, 1080p @120fps and not to forget the sweet 4K@ 30fps. Pair it with a Sony 50mm or a 24-70mm G-master lens and you're good to go!
All in all, the camera is worth every penny.

Needed A Camera for Low Light

Already being a Sony fan, I've been saving up to buy the A7Sii because I wanted a camera that can produce photos in low light situations. I currently own a number of Sony cameras. Based on all the great reviews and feedback on the first generation, I had to have one in my collection. The build is what I expected from Sony. The performance is great. The only negative is that is still uses the same small battery as the other mirrorless Sony's. Although, you do get 2 batteries with 2 generation. I am looking forward to producing some great photos/videos in the near future!

The Best Camera for Video

The camera is absolutely incredible for video. Very cinematic at 24fps and 120 fps (slowed 5x). Sony's native lenses are solid. Only thing I would recommend would be getting Sony's 16mm f/2.8 NEX lens for shooting at 120fps because there is a 2.2x crop (i.e. 16mm turns into ~35mm)

I was looking for a camera with great quality that is durable and reliable. Also, I was looking to film in 4k and slo-mo. This camera met all expectations, and is very handy on any film shoot, and is small enough to take on personal filming/ photography adventures.

If you're trying to choose between the A7RII and A7SII, each camera has its strengths. If you're looking to shoot videos, the A7SII is the way to go. I'm a low light shooter when it comes to video and photography so it works well for me. You can't go wrong!

Great camera for shooting video. Does a great job in low light. The only thing I wish Sony had done was make the display turn so that you can see it from the front of the camera and I wish it was a touch screen.

Honestly if you're coming from a camera below a canon 5dmkiii this will be a game changer for you. If you've used a 5diii or better it's a one trick pony - good in low light. The screen is terrible - you'll need a monitor. The evf is ok - not practical though. The menus are terrible - but there are plenty of custom buttons. The colour science isn't great- skin tones are redish and sometimes green comes out blue wtf right? Stills are ok - but if you're taking stills often get the a7rii. The slow mo and 1080 native is soft - good feature for the price. But I'd seriously consider saving for an fs5 if you're serious about video. That also has its issues but you'll want the 10bit colour depth because of the extra time you'll have to spend colour grading both cameras images.
If you need a small body are ok shooting in 4K to get the best picture, don't really need slomo over 60fps, have plenty of time to colour grade and don't have the money to light your shoot/like shooting at night then this is the camera for you.

I’ve gone back and forth recently on which new camera to purchase, and frankly, the A7sII was not my first choice. There are Canon cinema cameras with the same 4K and 1080p slo-mo capabilities as this camera, but with a better, more accurate sensor.
However, I purchased the A7sII because it was a more affordable option, it allows photography as well as video recording, it’s more compact than larger Canon camera bodies, and best of all, by purchasing through Best Buy with my Best Buy credit card, there is a significant amount of money coming back to me that I can use for additional equipment like lenses or ND filters (which this camera definitely needs).
If you’re looking for a pretty good camera option for 4K video and full-frame photography, and you’re not holding out for the inevitable new model, I recommend this one for sure—especially if you’re a Best Buy Elite or Elite Plus member like I am, because the rewards coming back are significant.
