Disappointing Lack of UHD Blu-ray Playback Capabil
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently purchased the Sony BDP-S6700 Streaming 4K Upscaling Wi-Fi Built-In Blu-ray Player in hopes of enjoying my favorite movies in stunning UHD Blu-ray quality. However, I was deeply disappointed to discover that this player does not support UHD Blu-ray playback, despite its 4K upscaling capabilities. One of the main reasons I chose this particular model was its promise of 4K upscaling, which led me to believe that it would also be compatible with UHD Blu-ray discs. Unfortunately, this assumption proved to be incorrect, as the player is limited to standard Blu-ray discs and lacks the necessary hardware and software support for UHD Blu-ray playback. This limitation severely hampers the player's potential, especially considering the increasing popularity and availability of UHD Blu-ray discs in the market. It's disheartening to invest in a Blu-ray player with 4K upscaling, only to find out that it falls short in supporting the latest and highest quality format available. Moreover, the lack of UHD Blu-ray playback is particularly disappointing considering the premium price tag of the Sony BDP-S6700. I expected a device in this price range to provide a more comprehensive and future-proof feature set, including support for UHD Blu-ray discs. While the player does offer built-in Wi-Fi and streaming capabilities, including access to popular streaming services, it simply cannot make up for the absence of UHD Blu-ray playback. The upscaling feature, although decent, is no substitute for the true UHD resolution and enhanced color gamut that UHD Blu-ray discs offer. In terms of build quality and user interface, the Sony BDP-S6700 does fare better. It is solidly constructed and has a sleek black design that complements any home theater setup. The user interface is intuitive and easy to navigate, making it simple to access various settings and streaming services. However, these positives are overshadowed by the lack of UHD Blu-ray support, which ultimately renders this player inadequate for those seeking the best possible video and audio quality. It's unfortunate that Sony did not include UHD Blu-ray playback capabilities in a player marketed as a 4K upscaling device. In conclusion, I cannot recommend the Sony BDP-S6700 Streaming 4K Upscaling Wi-Fi Built-In Blu-ray Player for those looking to experience the full potential of UHD Blu-ray discs. If UHD Blu-ray playback is important to you, I suggest exploring alternative Blu-ray players that offer this feature, as the Sony BDP-S6700 falls short in meeting this fundamental requirement.

Awesome Blu Ray Player / Streaming
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to replace my old PS3 that I usually use for netflix streaming. I like the features and the user-friendly menu. I like the sleek design. I mainly use this for video streaming but I watch blu-Ray from time to time and it works great.

It works, but the disc door doesn't close fully
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This replaced a Sony unit that was hit by a surge through the Ethernet or HDMI cables from the cable box. It ran every thing well for five + years. I wanted the same unit, but it wasn't being made. This one is close to it. This one has a door that folds down when the disc is loaded. There is a good size gap along the top of the door and the top of the drive box. Quality control was bad on this unit. The unit box was not packed in another box. The box looked like it had slid from one side to the other in the truck. I don't expect this one to last as long.

A very nice, small, full-function BlueRay unit
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was an upgrade or us, from an ancient DVD player to Blue Ray. The upscaling of standard DVDs (which it plays fine) is noticeable, and nice, and it has a lot of great apps included which will come in even more handy when we get broadband in the fall. Right, now, with only slow satellite internet available, some are of limited use. The unit is surprisingly compact and lightweight, and very simple for even an old Luddite like me to set up and get working, even as I added a new receiver at the same time. We've used it a fair bit for both discs and streaming in the short time we've had it, and appreciate how well it works. It's not 3-D, but we don't care about that. Works great for our purposes, and was a good $$ value. The remote has all the needed functions and works well and mostly intuitively.

Best player on the market.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been searching for a new Blu-Ray player to include 3D and 4K ability for some time. Aside from the remote I have absolutely no complaints with this player so far. Picture is crystal clear and set up was a breeze ( make sure you upload latest software ). Still experimenting with the features and apps. Best hidden feature is the Bluetooth function to allow you to pair with headphones. Particularly when it's late at night and family is trying to sleep. Simulated 3D also better then expected but works much better with Blu-Ray than standard DVD. Was also looking for smaller player to place on top of cabinet rather than in cabinet to save space for other devices and this worked like a charm. Only complaint is that remote does not light up but otherwise no issues. Looked at more expensive players and just don't see the rationale on these players. You won't be disappointed with this player.

Easy to set up and use
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The disc player is extremely easy to set up. The hardest part was remembering the WiFi password! Picture quality is outstanding. It has 4K UHD upscale, which uses digital tricks to make a Blu-Ray disc look like UHD. It's not perfect, but it definitely makes the picture sharper. The remote control is well-labeled and easy to use. And all this technology comes at a very affordable price! And it only uses 12 watts of power.

Near 4K up convert BlueRay, HD up convert old DVDs
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Latest greatest Sony BlueRay player with wi-fi has all the latest content protection, and has plenty of streaming movie and content applications. Starts quick, reads discs quick, and works seamlessly with other Sony components. Until Sony comes out with a native 4K BlueRay player, the BDP-S6700 is the best Sony BD player out there and it can up convert 1080P BD to near 4K output, and can up convert the older 1080i DVDs to 1080P output.... Can update its firmware and apps. Very good gear so far - I have it paired with a Sony XBR65X930D 4K tv and a Sony STR-DN1070 AVR. BestBuy ran out on line and recently took the item off the website....need to get back in stock on this excellent up scaling BD player! This player will make the best up convert possible for your old BlueRays and DVD content. Both look great on a 4K tv. Negatives: only HDMI, optical, and coax...no component out. App access has gone down on this unit a few times now, while same apps on the connected Sony tv were working fine...small bugs to work out of this new release gear.

Great Little Blu-Ray
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This player loads my disks quickly. The picture and sound quality are good (I'm not feeding a high dollar TV but it is HD) and I certainly feel I got an excellent value for the price I paid. I also use this player to play music CD's and it does that very well too. I did have to change a sound setting because I could not hear the actor's voices on the first try. I guess because I feed the signal to my AV system and not directly to the TV. We could hear music and such but no vocals. Went into settings and saw one option for sound, changed it and that solved it. A little strange, but solved. I've messed around with the streaming a little - and the front-end menu makes that pretty easy. The dedicated NetFlix and Home buttons are useful. I don't currently subscribe to any streaming services but I did navigate to NetFlix very easily. I did Miracast my Droid to the Blu-Ray and it worked pretty well. Video clips were choppy but that's the phone not feeding the signal fast enough I'm sure. Photos were large and clear. I have plugged in some of my thumb drives with MP3's on them and they play very well. You get some on-screen information that tells you which song and how far into the song you are. All in all - this little player performs very, very well for the price. It's pretty simple and easy to operate, very easy to connect. Hard to find anything to complain about.

Good for the price.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A little lag within some actions. It has many apps, it didn’t have Hulu which I thought it would and was one of the apps I wanted and for some of you like me might not know you can’t add apps except for the computer wiz that will find a way. I am new to this whole streaming thing so my fault on some things like it not having web browser which if I had to do it again would have bought one with it. To round it off, if you are new to this like I was a little research and time will get you very close to if not exactly what you were looking for. Simple to use small and light weight. Good luck

Not 4K, but great price for what it does.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, don't be confused by the title. This is NOT a 4K player, it's a standard Blu-ray player with a 4K algorithm. What the heck does that mean? It means that this player will play standard DVDs, and Blu-ray DVDs plus CDs too. But it will not play 4K discs. What it will do it pretty cool though. If you have a 4K TV, and you play a Blu-ray disc (or even a standard DVD) it will use that 4K algorithm to fill in all the extra pixels on your TV will the correct colors and resolution, meaning that your discs, especially Blu-ray discs will look very, very close to as crisp, clear and vivid as 4K discs would look. Think of it this way: Standard Blu-ray discs are high-definition; however 4K Blu-Ray discs are ultra-high-definition (about 4 times as many pixels) So, the algorithm in this player says, to make this look like 4K, I need to fill in a lot more pixels with information. But what color/brightness etc. should I make those extra pixels? And then it interpolates, asking itself well, if this pixel, on someone's face for example, is this color, hue, tint and saturation, then what should these other nearby pixels be? And then fills in those remaining pixels with the correct parameters. The bottom line is, while it's not true 4K, it looks make a standard Blu-ray disc look pretty much indistinguishable from true 4K, and it takes a standard DVD and makes it look a heckuva lot better.

Decent mid grade player
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Sony DVD player is easy to hook up and easy to use. Nice picture quality and the 4K upgrade seems pretty good. The only thing I wish they would do is include a lighted remote control. Have to use a flashlight to hit the right buttons in a darkened room.
